[T61p] Doesn't hibernate, only logs out
Hi,
I have a not even 1 week old T61p with Vista Ultimate preinstalled. After doing all the Windows and Lenovo updates, I noticed that hibernation didn't work (and still doesn't).
Here's what happens: I click on Start->Hibernate (or other ways to achieve it) and then the screen goes black, hard drive becomes active, then after 2-5 seconds the displays flickers and then comes back to the login screen.
I tried to disable / reenable hibernation with the powercfg -h ON|OFF command and restarting before,during and afterwards, with no effect.
The event viewer shows an error:

The system could not sucessfully load the crash dump driver.
I searched the web the last few days and came across other people that have the same symptoms.

They suspected problems with the volume manager (volmgr) or Bitlocker, but couldn't confirm or fix anything.

Same symptoms, dual boot with Linux.
He found that his Vista partition wasn't marked as active, which caused the hibernation problem.
In my case, I don't have another operating system installed, but I used Paragon Partition Manager 8.5 to shrink the preinstalled Vista partition to 60GB and created a new 120GB one at the end. Because I initially tried to use Vista's partitioning tool, I deactivated the system restore points and the paging file in order to free some space in the middle of the drive that prevented Vista from shrinking it beyond their locations. Didn't work of course, even after using various defragmentation tools. Then I used Paragon's tool and it took care of moving the overlapping files.
My Vista partition is marked as active. The second one (containing installed programs) is not active. Vista tells me that only partitions with an operational OS should be marked active.
Bitlocker is installed but I never used it.
I think hibernation didn't even work after doing the updates at first, but I'm not really sure anymore whether I tried it then. Definately after the repartitioning, it didn't work. Standby, shutdown, restart work all as expected.

I did a clean install of Vista after I could not stop more and more problems from appearing.
First hibernation, then SP1 messed things up even more, and so on..
After a clean installation as described in another forum, all the power states work fine again. I would not recommend using the preinstalled system. Just make an image of it for emergency backup reasons and then put your own system on it.

That's not consistent with what you wrote in your first message. I can't help you unless I know what's going on. Either you do, or do not, have backups of all the data you want to keep. If you do not, then the first thing you need to do is back up those files. It makes zero sense to do anything else. In order to back up, you'll need either of two things: another Mac, in working order, with a FireWire port and enough space on its internal drive to hold your files; or an external drive, also with enough space.
On the other hand, if you do have backups, or if you simply don't care about any of the data, then the solution to your problem may be quite simple. All you have to do is boot from your installation disc (your profile says you're running Mac OS 10.5), erase your internal drive, reinstall the Mac OS, then restore your data from backup. You will need to be selective in restoring software, because incompatible software may be what caused the issue.
But it's also possible that you have a hardware failure, in which case you can't get your computer working again until it's repaired. -
MacBook Pro doesn't hibernate when runs out of battery

I've been experiencyng this issue for quite a while now and is very frustrating. My MacBook Pro (Early 2011) doens't go to sleep as it should when runs out of battery. It simply dies. This is not a continuous issues as it happens 1/2 oh the times that battery runs out and I cannot connect it to power (low battery warning is also working perfectly).
Mac is stock besides HDD (now SSD) and RAMs. Battery stock as well and loks good in sysinfo (attached):

It doesn't at all appear to be a HW issues, as batteries behaves normally and system sleeps corretcly at times. Indeed, seems to be a software issue as also running a pm set command in terminal after mac died returned this result:

@andyBall: I though that the battery might run out sooner than what it reports, however it typically behaves behaves quite well - 5+ hours after fully charged and approximately 10 minutes of operation after low battery warning. Very hard that battery is running out before the system realize that. Yet I have to try the SMC reset. Will revert.
@SilverSkyRat: I have one iCloud and one Gmail for work. Today I have disabled both and OS hibernated well (no failure). Later in the day I reactivated Gmail and system still hibernated fine. I mainly use the Mac for work therefore it's rather difficult to perform continus test of this kind. Although, system somtimes hibernates fine with also all account active.
General question, which are the program associated with "Address Book Source Sync"? Only "Contacts"?
Also, I have Little Snitch on the computer, may this be anyhow linked with this issue in your opinion/experience?

I have accidentally deleted my alternate iCloud (email) address. Are there any possibilities to retrieve it back because my iPad is connected to that email address, and now, I can't log out from it on my iPad, because it doesn't exist.
I have alternate icloud email attached to my iPad and I accidentally delete it from appleid.apple.com. And now I can't log out that iCloud account because it doesn't exist and it can't recognize my password.If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple IDand that ID is a previous version of your current ID, not an entirely different one.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details and some other circumstances.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device. It may take a short while to remove the account.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

I created a new Apple ID for iCloud on my iPhone, but I can't seem to find a way to "sign out" or "log out" of that Apple ID (for iCloud) to sign in with another Apple ID. The only account login I could change was the Store.

I have qualitynet either wired internet. I buy a card good for a month at a time, I can only log into one device at any one time. Are there settings I can adjust on my airport express to allow all my devices to connect to wi-fi without having to log out of one devise before using another?
Some Internet providers that limit access to a single device at a time do so by the device's hardware MAC address. If your ISP is one of those, you may be able to substitute the MAC address of your AirPort Express base station for the computer. I would suggest that you contact them to find out if this is allowable.

I've inherited a previously used early 2011 13-inch MacBook Pro at work.
I now have my own account on the computer, however the account does not show up on the list of users to log in as in the start up log in screen. It will only appear if I first log in as one of the users who do appear, then logout. The background also changes between these two log in screens - the start up one is white whereas after logging out of one user it's the brushed steel background. My account has admin powers.
Anyone have any ideas how I can make this account also show up on the start up screen?

Under System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> FileVault I try and click "Enable users" near the bottom (after unlocking with an admin password). If I do this from my own account a green check mark appears next to my name, but upon clicking "done" I received this message after a brief loading period:
The following users weren’t allowed to unlock this disk because an unknown error occurred: (myusername).
I tried going into the root account and performing this same process, the first time System Prefences unexpectedly quit, and the second I received the same error as above after clicking the "Enable User..." button next to my account and trying to hit "Done". -
I keep getting an error when trying to update an app- cannot connect to store. I logged out from my account and tried to log back in and got the same error. I am doing all this from my phone since I no longer own a personal computer (only work) since I use iCloud and I tunes match

Why do I get logged out only for some threads?

The screen suddenly changes to "welcome guest | login" in the upper left corner. If I click on login, I'm taken to the main welcome page for this site, and in the corner it says "welcome augratin | logout" which I suppose means I was actually logged-in already. But going back to that same thread, and I'm suddenly a guest again. This happens using chrome, opera and safari on both PC and iPad. What's going on?Forum glitch. It happens to all of us every now and then.
I think the only way I was able to get around it once - it was showing the logged out thing on my computer, but if I logged in and went to the thread on my iPad then I could post. -
Log out botton in webpages doesn't work
When I log into a secure site and I want to log out the button doesn’t work. I have to close the browser to log out. This occurred after I installed the new version 8.0. What is the problem? Should I go back to the previous version?

When we miss a call, the "Slide to Unlock" doesn't respond to touch. The only way out is to have someone call your iphone and then "Slide to Answer" will respond and once u end the call it will start responding to "Slide to Unlock" this started happening after upgrading to IOS 7.

If those do not work, then the last thing is to go to the Genius Bar. You say you went to Apple and they opened the phone and re-seated the connectors? That sounds unusual, because if there was a hardware issue,they would replace the hardware. You say you cannot get a replacement, is that because you are out of warranty? An out of warranty replacement is only $199 plus tax. It seems to me since you mention the fact you need to press hard to get the screen to react there is something going on with the hardware. If this problem has been going on for over a year, have you been reporting this to Apple. You say you cannot get a replacement and you are on the second phone, I wonder why they are denying you a replacement. Is there something you are not telling us??

I have 4 apps that will not update. Im mostly concerned with one, as it has a good amount of in-app purchases. It started to
Update and got 3/4 done then started over again. now im given the 'done/retry' option shortly after attempting an update. I've rebooted, reset(lost all my phone contacts thanks very much....), logged out of app store....
Perhaps its the wifi I'm using (cruise ship worker here), and will try again on a land wifi signal before worrying a lot. any help would be great.
In-store helper had me double click home and clear out all opened apps and that worked then , but not now.Also, just as a note, I restored my iphone last night, and it has made no difference.
One last thing... On itunes, when i click 'info' on apps that are said to be under my friends account (ie they will only update when he is logged in), it says that i purchased them under my account, yet it won't let me update them. -

I am not doing it in ITunes, but i did down load the song from ITunes. I loaded the song on to my Nano, but in my menu selections it doesn't show the song or the artist in any search format. However, when i plug in my nano to my PC I see the Nano library on my PC drive listings and that song and artist are there. I can click on the song and it will play in Windows media on my work PC. I did notice that the format for most all the songs in my library on my Nano are MPEG - 4 audio Files.

I have searched through the FAQs and find stuff on "crashing". I have not had any trouble with flash crashing, but I can't keep it installed.
If I install flash, then it stays as long as I am logged in, even if I close firefox. Once I log out and log back in, I lose Flash and have to re-install it.I was having the same issue with installing Flash player 10.3.183.10 in both Firefox 6.0.2 and Explorer 9 -- the Task Manager would show the installer running as a process, but it would never actually install anything. It would just sit there until I killed it or rebooted.
It seems that there are multiple versions of the separate installers needed. The installer that worked for me in Firefox was
install_flash_player_10.exe -- a 3,017KB file
and for Explorer, it was:
install_flash_player_10_active_x.exe -- a 3,054KB file.
Neither of those files was sent by the main updater page, nor did that page offer the 239KB uninstall_flash_player.exe, which is needed to uninstall the previous Flash version before one can even begin to try to update it. I had to pound through the messages in the forums to find links to those "full" installers.
It is working now in both browsers, but jeepers creepers, it shouldn't take all day to find the installers for something that gets updated as often as Flash does.
