T61p - Good battery never charges off AC

I have a T61p that functions wonderfully when plugged in via AC, or on my (powered) docking station. However, the battery never charges (literally NEVER).
1. I have confirmed it is a good battery (have charged said battery on another T61)
2. Laptop will use the battery if there is any charge on it.
3.  When I look at the status of my power (icon on tray) while plugged in to the AC power cord OR docking station, I see a status that says 'plugged in, not charging'.
4. No matter how long I leave the laptop plugged in to charge, it never charges.
5. If I look in the Power Manager at the battery details I see:
Status: no activity
Current: 0.00 A
I have sent the laptop in to Lenovo twice now to have this repared, each time stating the above details to the Help person for my ticket. The motherboard has been replaced, they've given me (another) new battery, hardware diagnostics performed, and updated BIOS/embedded controller. And I still see the above issue w/ the battery NOT charging.
One more note - I am running Windows Server 2008.
Anyone have any clue on this?  Would be greatly appreciated!

What charging mode did you set in the Thinkvantage Power Manager, when does set your charging to start at? While everything been changed, lenovo never formatted your hdd and reinstall the OS. So this really points to a software problem, if all else fails, you should reinstall the your OS by restoring to the factory condition.

  • Good Battery Not Charging

Any suggestions on what the following problem could be and how to resolve it?
First here are my battery specs at the moment:
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 913
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 4829
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 175
    Condition: Good
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): 0
    Voltage (mV): 11249
The thing is that we have recently had to replace the AC adapter because our son put the magsafe end in his mouth and we think it may have started frying the contacts (it smelled like burning electronics). We went to the apple store and told them our story and sure enough the AC adapter was fried. So we bought a new one and it seemed to be working fine, charged the battery fully, but now it no longer is charging. The AC adapter is working because we plugged it into my newer MacBook pro and it was doing what it was designed to do (power to the computer and charging battery). One thing I noticed was that on the newer computer the LED light on the magsafe turns on (green on the new MBP as it's fully charged) but ont he MBP that we're having the problem with it doesn't turn on (well in fact, it's more like one a blue moon and for no apparent reason the LED light will be green for a short period and then go off, but while it is green it isn't charging).
Tried resetting the SMC, but no luck, still not charging and the LED light isn't on. The LED looks very faint green, could barely make out that it is on, but this very, very faint green seems to always be on.
Anyways, hope this info is enough. We will be taking it tot the apple store, but first wanted to get our experience out there in case anyone is having the same problem.
    Cheers

    The odyssey continues...
I just noticed that my wife hadn't updated to the latest Mac OSX update (10.5.8) so I did it for her and this is what I found afterwards. The battery is now in Good conditions and the it is charging. The only problem was that the LED light wasn't turning on.
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 3721
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: Yes
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 4402
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 175
    Condition: Good
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): 789
    Voltage (mV): 12309
While writing ths the unplugged the magsafe and plugged it back in and it appeared initially that the battery wasn't going to charge, but then suddenly the LED lights came on and it turned organge (as it should be when battery still needs recharging) so all seems good....oh wait, just noticed that the LED light turned off again (by off I mean a very dim green....don't know if dim green light means something). I'll continue to keep an eye on it in the meantime so hopefully all this info is jogging someone's mind on a solution.
    Cheers!

  • T61p new battery custom charging thresholds unfunctional

Hi! I bought a new genuine lenovo battery for my T61p 8891 CTO running Win7 64bit. When I use this new battery, the custom values inside the battery maintenance dialogue are complely ignored, and the system always charges the battery to 100%, even if I plug it in at 98%. With the old battery, I worked with 70%-90% thresholds which worked perfectly fine! But not with the brand new Lenovo spare part. I updated to Power Manager 6.36 and installed the latest PM Drivers from Lenovo Driver Matrix, but nothing works. I already tried to reset the battery, but that error won't let the discharge cycle happen, because as soon as the battery reaches 99%, it is reloaded. Any ideas?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The charge thresholds seem to be specific for the battery you're using when you set them, if you plug in a different battery it will ignore them. I'd recommend putting the old battery back in, turning off the custom settings, close power manager then shut down and switch batteries and restart. You should now ab able to set a charge threshold for the new battery...   assuming it's working properly.
If you want to do a deep cycle recharge to condition the battery, run it as close to 0% as you can get, then boot to bios  and let the computer sit until it shuts off from low battery, you'll then be as close to 0% as possible. Now plug in AC power (without starting the comptuer) and let it charge for 8-10 hours.
When finished not only check that the charge threshold work, but also your max capacity to make sure it's close to 100% of design limit. I've seen brand new batteries in the 80% range before, but most are 98-102%. If a brand new battery is below 95% or so I'd see about getting it replaced under warranty.

  • I have never updated macbook 10.5.8, grey screen at start up, battery not charging.  Is it worth getting it serviced?

So, My lovely Macbook 10.5.8 is struggling a little.  I cannot use any softwares because I have never updated the system - how many system updates will I need to install and purchase will I need to install until I can use all the modern softwares, and how do I do it?
Also, the computer turns off immediately if the charger is removed?  Will I need a new battery?
Finally, manytimes the system struggling to start up and gets stuck on a pale grey/ white/ blue screen?  Any ideas?
I am thinking to take it to be serviced at the genius bar but there are a few issues here that could make the whole process very expensive and as the laptop is quite old now I am not sure it is worth it.  I'm not even sure how much it costs for a genius bar appointment.
I really don't know what to do, please help, any suggestions would be much appreciated!
    THANK YOU

You could call ahead and ask about setting an appointment at an Apple Store
to talk to a Genius about your old MacBook, and see about a diagnosis of its
issues; that much should be free, from what has been said about it in the US.
Any further actions, after a diagnostic, would likely generate an expense, if
there are parts and labor involved to restore functions. Could be just a new
battery, or charger, etc may be needed if those don't check out well. Be sure
if you do visit with a Genius bar, you take along the MacBook's power adapter.
Depending on what the Model identifier number (macbook2.1, 3.1, etc) is you
may be able to upgrade an OS X version past Snow Leopard 10.6 (retail DVD
is the path to upgrade) however, several early MacBook models like 10.6.8.
So the price of admission to Snow Leopard, is about $20 for the retail DVD; &
then the last step update is a free download to get 10.6 to 10.6.8.
There is an option in the Snow Leopard installer, to put Rosetta in there, so
if you have a pile of older applications that have PPC code, these would
benefit from the Rosetta and allow you to continue to use them in 10.6.8.
Snow Leopard is the last OSX that could allow you to use older PPC apps.
    Anyway, hopefully this helps somewhat.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Macbook Pro retina display 13 inch stopped charging. Charger LED also not on while plugged in. The battery fully drained off but the system can detect the charger when it was switched on.

Macbook Pro retina display 13 inch 2014 model stopped charging. Charger LED also not on while plugged in. The battery fully drained off so the system can not be started but the system can detect the charger when earlier it was switched on before draining off the charge. Charger type magsafe 60W.

Once you have examined the power inlet on the computer for dirt, and made certain that the pins on the end of the MagSafe cord are free to move in and out to make contact, there is very little you can do yourself.
You will need to visit your Apple Store (FREE with appointment) or your Apple-Authorized Service Provider (policy varies). They work on these all the time and have good expertise and lots of spare parts to try to determine the problem.

  • Can't calibrate because battery never fully charges

I want to calibrate the battery in my new MacBook.
According to Apple's instructions, the battery must first be fully charged before you let it drain down for the calibration.
Problem is, I can never get my battery fully charged. The battery indicator in the menu bar shows it getting up to 99 percent charged, but never 100 percent.
    Any suggestions?

Try to charge it when the MacBook is off.
Charge until the magsafe adapter turn green and all 5 led lit green, then turn on your MacBook and start the calibration.
    Hope this help

  • Battery good, Ac Adapter Good, Computer not charging battery or staying on

My sisters 14inch ibook g4 will not stay on. We swapped my ac adapter with hers and her ac adapter works on my ibook. Swapped her battery with mine and her battery works on my ibook. So her battery is good and her adapter is good but computer will only stay on while battery has a charge otherwise is turns off (even while ac adapter is plugged in). Reset power management and all other posted ideas and now I have no idea what to do. The enegry status shows "battery not charging" and its plugged into a regular ac outlet so I am not sure why it says that except the fact its not charging..errr...I am starting to think it's a hardware issue... any opinions?

It sounds like the power input (DC-in) board has failed. This is the part of the iBook which houses the adapter port. The iBook is acting just like my husband's did when the power input board was damaged.

  • HP 6735s, the battery is charged only if the laptop is turned off.

    Good evening,
my hp 6735s has the following problems:
1 - the battery is charged only if the laptop is turned off
2 - with the power supplier not connected to the wall outlet (I hope do you know what I mean) but
connected to the laptop turned off and with the battery inserted the led of the power supplier turns
on!!! It's like that the battery gives voltage to the power supplier!!!
3 - If I remove the battery and leave only the power supplier and press the power button the laptop tries to start, but only some led turns on for one second, then all turns off.
Any suggestion to resolve is appreciated.
Best wishes and have a happy new year.
    Emilio

    Try This!!!
First off, I'd like to say that HP SUCKS. It is ridiculous that many of you have wasted time and money to find a solution with absolutely no help from HP. Do yourself a favor and take your business to another company. OK, had to get that out of the way!
So here are the steps that worked for MY laptop:
Having your laptop running and plugged in, let the battery die at which time the screen will turn off.
Press the On/Off button until the laptop powers completely OFF. Be sure to leave it plugged in.
Wait a few minutes. You will notice that an orange light will turn on where the adaptor plugs in to the laptop.
Once this happens, wait a couple more minutes.
Finally, power up your laptop. You will notice that the power meter on the task bar will now read "Plugged In. Charging". Your laptop is now charging while ON!
I really hope this works for you. If it does and I saved you a headache and a few bucks, do something nice for someone!!!!

  • Battery losing charge while iPod is off

We have an iPod nano that seems to have reasonably good battery life if played immediately after charging (just over 12 hours of continuous play), but if we charge it, then unplug it and turn it off, and also put the 'hold' button on, it loses its charge overnight, and is completely 'dead' when we try and turn it on the next day. When we then plug it into the usb port, it indicates that the battery is empty, and we have to fully charge it again. We've sent it to the Apple service centre, but they are returning it saying there's nothing wrong with it. My daughter has an identical iPod, and hers doesn't present the same problem. We have tried two different cables for charging it, and it hasn't helped. Also tried resetting and updating and so on...
Has anyone got any idea what to do next??
    iPod nano   Windows XP

I am having the same problem with my new ipod. I just got it two weeks ago and it has been losing it's charge overnight since I bought it. Has anyone figured out how to fix this problem? I have reset it and updated it, but nothing has fixed it yet. Also, when you reset your ipod, should you lose all your songs, because when I reset it I didn't (maybe I didn't do it right, but I followed the instructions)? I was thinking of sending it back to Apple, but I read somewhere that someone else sent theirs back for the same problem and Apple sent it back saying there was nothing wrong with it. After reading that post I wasn't sure if I should send it back because I didn't want to be charged for sending it and then them sending it back saying there isn't a problem. Please, if anyone knows how to fix this let me know.
Oh, I also checked for alarm settings and there are none set. Thanks for any help you can give.

  • My iPod show that my battery is receiving energy and that it is "charging," but it doesn't actually charge. The battery never increases; it only decreases. Even when I have it physically plugged in and charging, it loses battery whenever I am using an APp

My iPod shows that my battery is receiving energy and that it is "charging," but it doesn't actually charge. The battery never increases; it only decreases. Even when I have it physically plugged in and charging, it loses battery whenever I am using an APP or anything. I'm thinking that the chip that receives the energy is damaged or worn out. Is there anyway to fix it without going to the store? My USB chords is fine. It charges other iPods fine. Including a second generation iPod which means my 4th generation iPod should not have an physical battery problem. Any suggestions? Thank you so much!

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
