T61P HDD Error 2100

Hey all, I have a T61P which I was running Windows 7 on. Two days ago my hard drive crashed. Following the boot screen there are two beeps and then I get an error 2100 message. I went out and bought a new hard drive and installed Windows 7 on it. As I was installing Windows updates and Thinkpad drivers the hard drive crashed and again goes from boot screen to an Error 2100 message. What can this be and how can I fix it? Any help would be appreciated.

Reseating sometimes helps, a while ago I was updating 6GB to 20GB on my IBM 240, I noticed that the ThinkPad sometimes threw HDD error, I reseated the drive and noticed that one of the HDD pins was little bit crooked, I straightened it out and never got any error ever since.
There is an HDD firmware update, see if your drive qualiifies:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-63685.html
From the txt file:-
This firmware update includes the fix for the case on a system with
Windows Vista, that the system may display the following error
message at each power on, and then cannot boot from the hard drive.
"2100: Initialization error on HDD0 (Main hard disk drive)"
Maliha (I don't work for lenovo)

  • SSD Patriot Warp V2 64gb & 128gb & Lenovo T61P - error 2100 hard disk failed initialisation

Hi guys. I have recently purchased 2 SSD drives - 1x64gb & 1x128gb. I have the 64gb hooked up to the home pc and is running as the C:\ system drive. I wanted to hook up the 128gb drive to my notebook, but I keep getting an initialisation error (2100) - I have tried AHCI and Compatibility Mode, as well as look up various firmware upgrades and hdd firmware upgrade options via Lenovo.
I was just curious if anyone has had problems with this on there system, and if so, how did you overcome it. I have tried both drives on my notebook, both providing the same error, but both work on the desktop system.
I have a strong feeling it is to do with a firmware upgrade through Lenovo (ibm), as I have the most recent upgrade which is already a few months old... Hope to hear something good soon... Thnx guys in advance.

To install Win XP, SATA AHCI needs to be changed to Compatibility mode in the BIOS for HDD. - Config - > SATA - > Compatibility.
    Hope it helps.

  • W520: PNY XLR8 240GB SSD with error "2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD)"

When I try to boot my W520, I get a BIOS boot up error : "2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD)". I am using PNY XLR8 240GB SSD.
It worked fine for a month.
I also have PGP installed and whole disc encrypted.
I installed an update of Intel Management Engine Firmware and Intel Chipset, both are the latest from lenovo site because I was experiencing expreme slowness from my harddrive. Programs would freeze. Webpages would take forever to load..
The next time I rebooted, I got the error. If I leave the SSD out for a bit, and put the SSD back in, the disk will work for some time... but on next reboot, it is again detection error..
TRIM is enabled on my system. I am not sure how the SSD died so quickly.
I am back to using my HDD but I am not happy. I want a solution... is this a intel chipset issue? Intel IMEI issue? Is  the PNY SSD just a bad model?
I've googled plenty and dont really see a solution. Sometimes there is a firmware update.. PNY has no firmware updates for my drive.. I don't see anybody else using PNY on their W520, but plenty of people are experiencing Error 2100 with SSD on their W520.. somethings fishy..
help please! thanks in advance !

No go, the drive is in there pretty firmly, a tech support to PNY said they are going to replace my drive.
They came to the same conclusion I did - which is that the drive is toast..
Drive slow downs and eventually unable to detect points to this.. I was hoping for some firmware update. I am really surprised an SSD died because I thought the whole point of them - no spinning parts - would make them last longer.. but there is some sort of logic board and maybe the flash drive itself went kaput.. who knows.
They do have 3 year warranty on my mode and i'm happy to take it. Luckily my old HDD was still around and works.. so thats what i'll be using for the next few weeks while I ship this to them and have them send me a new one.
I asked about Advanced replacement, which is when they send me a new one before they recieve my current ssd. They said the Advanced replacemenet costs $30, and they would need credit card info to place a charge of the original amount for the drive incase I didnt send in the drive too. So it would cost me $30 plus temporary $100-150 or so... which I opted not to do... So I wait now for a few weeks. I dont know if I'll get another PNY drive in the future. OCZ has faired pretty well for me, I've had 3 of them work on desktops/laptops flawlessly.

  • Error 2100: HDD0 initializing error (1)

    Hello.
I have W510 and change a standart HDD to SSD Corsair Force F240. And allready second time today have an error while power on:
    error 2100: HDD0 initializing error (1)
how i can fix it? thanks
    Stas.

This definitely appears to be a hard drive issue, possibly linked to the firmware or OS settings.
On a T410 and a refurbished Western Digital Scorpio Black 320 GB the system ran fine (Win 7 Pro),  *but* at some times would get that error on boot.  Either rebooting or switching from ACHI to Compatibility mode would correct the issue, but never permanently. That T410 never has any issue with other drives.
This seems to be a timing issue with the HD being recognized in time: sometimes just hitting the Thinkvantage blue button at startup is enough to get the drive to be recognized. This may also be why changing from ACHI to Compatibility helps.
So my take is to *just* try another hard drive first, possibly cloning it on another system where it is recognized.  And WD refurbished no more for me. It was a poisoned gift.

  • Lenoxo X200 con Error 2100

    Hola!
    Saludos!

    ¡Resuelto!
    Ir a solución.

  • Satellite U200-181 Built-in HDD ERROR

I've bought "Toshiba Satellite U200-181" 2 weeks ago. Recently (2-3 days ago) Ive got problem with built-in HDD.
So the problem is that sometimes I'm getting the message "Built-in HDD ERROR" during Notebook startup. This message "Built-in HDD ERROR" appears from time to time and system stops booting from HDD, but can boot from other bootable devices. First time when message "Built-in HDD ERROR" occurred, it was accompanied by lot of strange clapper pop noise from inside of the Notebook. All other
"Built-in HDD ERROR" messages were accompanied with not so loud and strange clapper pop noise, but still with some pop sounds (not as loud as at first time).
To identify possible problems I saved S.M.A.R.T. data log (see appendix#1).
Additional information: After I've purchased the Notebook Ive made successful BIOS upgrade from version 1.40 to version 1.50 strictly according Toshiba official web-site instructions. After BIOS upgrade system worked well, no ERRORS, no faults. But 3days ago I got "Built-in HDD ERROR" message.
    Any ideas? Thank you.

I recommend you to contact Toshiba service partner in your country as soon as possible. The unit is new one and something like this should not happen. Explain them the situation and you will see what they can do about it.
You can also contact your local dealer and try to exchange the unit to new one.

  • Tecra S4 -125 shows built-in HDD error

I've bought Toshiba Tecra S4 -125 and Ive got problem with built-in HDD.
New SATA HDD does not work.
The message "Built-in HDD ERROR" appears from time to time and system stops booting from HDD and boot is very, very slow.
In BIOS settings HDD is not detected.
    What is wrong there?
    Thank you...

    Hi
Maybe dust is blocking the cooling ventilator and so your notebook shuts down immediately
So in your case I would clean the notebook using compressed air spray. This could blow out the dust from the cooling ventilators and therefore its not necessary to disassemble the notebook. Check this!!!
Which display driver you are using? I can only recommend the Toshiba drivers because they are pretested.

  • Qosmio F20 - Built-In HDD error

My F29 took a hefty knock today around the HDD area on the forward right, while my kids were playing around. In hefty i mean that when it got knocked it unclipped the speaker panal near the sreen.
For a while it continued to work but about 10 mins later i got a blue screen with a load of text and then it just restarted.
During the boot up screen a error came up saying "Built-in HDD error".. Now i checked the connection and they seem solid enough. is there anything that i can do to get my system working again?
    Thanks in advance
    J

    Hello
You can check this yourself ;)
On the bottom side of the notebook you must only remove the HDD cover that is secured with one screw as far as I know. Remove the cover and then you can see what type of HDD it is.
Anyway, as far as I know the Qosmio F20 was equipped with IDE HDDs. That means due the 28bit LBA limitation you can use HDDs up to 128GB.
So I think a HDD with 120GB would be best solution.

  • Portege R600 Built-in HDD Error

My Portege R600 has been working fine until today when it came up with the message "Built-in HDD error" when I switched it on. It then lists the following:
    Intel(R) Boot Agent GE v1.3.24
    PXE-E61: Media test failure,check cable
    PXE-MOF:Exiting Intel Boot Agent.
    Insert system disk in drive.

I am travelling in South America and do not have access to the system disks.
Can anyone help with this problem ?

you can read about this issue:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=8
It looks like your hdd isn't recognized by bios. The possible reasons:
1 Hdd is dead (should be replaced)
2 the controller on the motherboard is dead (the whole mobo should be replaced)
    3. In bios, lan boot set is the 1st boot device(Go to the Bios F2 on startup and check in Boot priority option)

  • Qosmio G15R - Built in HDD error

    Hello
I am getting an error message that says "built in hdd error" when booting up my laptop. The laptop has 2 HDD's. One 40GB and one 60GB.
I have tried both in the HDD1 slot and I am still getting the same message. I was able to use the recovery disc on the 60GB HDD and was able to start the laptop. It worked for a an hour then I got the same HDD message again. Everything is plugged in fine.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks.

    Hey,
    > I know that repair costs for these laptops are very exp.
Its just depending on the spare part that you need. If you need only a new HDD, it costs the same as for other notebooks I think. All notebooks using HDDs with SATA or IDE interface and thats all!
But parts as mainboard or display are more expensive. As far as I know they are the most expensive parts so sometimes its better to look on eBay or buy a new notebook. But its not unusual, the same is true of all other notebooks/manufactures.

  • "Built in HDD error" in Portege R200

    Hello,
My Portege R200 shows 'built-in HDD error" in boot time. In the BIOS screen, it says "no drive" in HDD.
What do I do? I checked the connection and the drive is plugged in fine. I didn't hear any noise while booting.
Is this HDD problem? or perhaps motherboard? Help!!
    Lee

    Does the HDD spin up?
Try resetting the BIOS to default settings.
Other than that, I think there is not much you can do, except for sending the laptop to a service center for repair.

  • OS X Clients won't bind to 10.7.3 Server. Error 2100

I have a Server running 10.7.3, my clients also 10.7.3 will not bind to the OD. It returns the error 2100. I did some reasearch and apparently this issue is to do with having an SSL on the OD, but I don't have an SSL running on it. Does anyone know the fix for this or is any one else having this issue? Any help appreciated.

I too tried to down load Lion! twice, but my iMac would not accept the down load. I went to the Woodlands Tx Apple store where Manager Luke supplied me with a thumb drive. This is where the real fun started. I loaded Lion from the Thumb drive which took 6 hours, and then the iMac would not connect to the internet, or run any applications more than once without being re-booted. So I figured I needed to run update to download any patches, This created even more fun. After having the machine run over night down loading available patches (4) they were still not complete. I took the iMac to the Apple store, I spent 2.5 hours watching the techs confirm what I had already explained. The techs found no problems with hardware. So their big fix was to format the hard drive and install Lion. They did this and attempted to reload my added apps and data back. All the techs at the Apple store were great, But Apple quality is no different than any other computer company yet they charge 3 times more. All this started because of a "simple" switch from Mobilme to iCloud. This is a very expensive "free" "upgrade". My suggestion is that if you absolutely have to have icloud, wait until the last minute, take your machine to an Apple store for installation. Also be prepared to lose use of Quicken, and most other aftermarket apps, plus any virus software you have. What makes it even worse is I just received a receipt for purchasing Lion as a down load when it never worked and I had to get a thumb drive version from the Apple store.
Do not attempt this conversion on your own and still be prepared to waste a couple days getting your machine back to being productive.

  • Detection Error 2100 - Lenovo X240 with Crucial M500 SSD

I have a new Lenovo X240 out of the box.  I immediately upgraded with a Crucial M500 SSD 240mb drive.  The computer is running a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit. The BIOS on the laptop is the most current.  The firmware on the M500 is the most current.  It seems that every several times I start or reboot the system I receive "DETECTION ERROR 2100".  After powering off the machine and powering it on again the computer will boot to Winddows.
I have seen numerous posts about this issue between Crucial vs. Lenovo.  I've tried every suggested fix to no avail.  I have tried the configuration using an identical, brand new M500 SSD with the same results.  Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions,.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions,.

Hello mrtree and welcome to the Crucial forum. I spotted your post yesterday and spent some time Googling for info from the Lenovo support forum last night. I found several things you are probably aware of. First, this Detection Error 2100 is not limited to just the X240 series laptops, there are quite a few other models affected in the same way. Second, it is not limited to only Crucial SSDs, there are people with Samsungs, Toshibas, Intels, and even conventional drives that have experienced this same problem at system boot. These two observations indicate to me that problem is probably related to BIOS/firmware/driver issues. Since you have stated that you already installed the latest BIOS(v. 2.23?) and firmware(chipset v. 9.5.22.1760?), that leaves one area: drivers. From what I can see, the latest Intel RST drivers available are version 12.8.10.1005, dated 1/26/2014. Please be aware that there are seperate downloads for 32 and 64 bit systems. There is also a Solid State Drive Firmware Update Utility listed, but I do not recommend using it since Crucial M500s are not listed in the "Read Me" notes. Which brings up the question of SSD firmware, do you have the MU03 or MU05 firmware installed on your Crucial SSDs? Also, just to double check, do you have AHCI mode enabled in your BIOS settings? You'd be surprised at how many people overlook this. I suppose that Lenovo will get around to releasing updated software addressing this issue, as they have for the other brands of SSD drives, it's just a question of when. Edit: Two more things I thought of after my initail post. First, did you order your M500 directly from Crucial? When I ordered the M500 for my Lenovo T400 Thinkpad, I went to the website and used the advisor to find the M500 part number for my machine. I called to order several days later, and when I gave the part number to the customer representative, she immediately replied "that's for a Lenovo T400, correct?". That tells me there is a part number that is specific to the T400 series, and this may also be the case with the X240 series. Ordering from an online retailer or purchasing the M500 from a store may not have given you the correct part. Second, does your machine have Intel's Management Engine firmware installed, and do you have it enabled? Try entering BIOS and disabling it, just to see if this problem persists. I've noticed that on my T400, when I boot from the DVD drive or a USB stick, I see a brief warning message from the Management Engine stating that I'm not using the normal boot device, but then my machine boots regardless. Perhaps it's causing some sort of grief for your machine.
