T61p Paint worn off on corners

Is anyone else as frustrated and dissapointed that their brand new T Series paint easily rubs off of the corners?  I've only transported this T61p (6547-B2E) for a little over three months and the pain on the corners has worn off.  Someone sitting next to me at a coffee shop asked if it was an older unit.
Why is this happening?  If a Lenovo person can tell me how to swap this cover with the brushed metal one or any option open to me, I'll gladly spend some dough to make this look new again.
I handle my T with care and even have a cloth to cover the keyboard so I won't damage the display.
Thoughts or Suggestions?

JHrain, I had the same problem and fixed it with a fine touch of Revell  email colour number 78 matt with a little of black, I myself hasn´t been able to notice tha damage anymore! With time you will learn to survive many other appearance disasters and will get to love your machine not for its looks but for its responsivness, good look with the paint job.

  • Paint worn off on all iPhone 6 & 6 Plus on bottom?

I went to the Apple Store today and got my first opportunity to check out iPhone 6's up close. I happened to noticed that the paint was worn off (chipped?) on all iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models on display right at the area of the lightening connection port.  I looked at at least 3 different iPhone 6's and they all had the paint worn off on the bottom.  Is this a rampant occurrence that many are experiencing?

Fair enough...definitely seems like reasonable scenario.  Thanks for chiming in...I'm really happy to hear it's not a mass issue.  I really enjoyed checking out the iPhone 6plus in particular.  I will say that all of the reviews of the phones being very slippery weren't as over exaggerated as I expected.  They are very slippery phones for sure.  The paint chipping easily would really bug me so I'm glad this is likely a case of people not being respectful of the demo models.  How hard is it to be mindful of not jamming the phones on their respective display connectors.
    Thanks for sharing your insight.

  • W520 Paint Rubs Off

    Hello everyone!
My W520 is only a couple weeks old, and already the paint on all four top corners has completely rubbed off (the corners are shiny) and there is a smudge on the top of my computer of permanently rubbed-off paint. I'm EXTREMELY careful with my laptop and the only wear and tear it gets is when I carefully place it in my Northface backpack (with a soft built-in laptop sleeve) for transportation. After hearing so much about Thinkpad quality and durability, I'm really surprised the paint began rubbing off after a couple days.
Has anyone else had these problems (so quickly after purchasing)? Is there a possibility that the paint on my W520 is a bad batch?
    Thank you!
    - Michael
P.S. Other than the bad paint, the laptop is amazing and I would definitely recommend it to others. I've been an Apple user for 10 years and this is my first PC since then and I'm very happy with the performance... Just not the build quality. If Lenovo uses better quality materials, I would probably try to talk the entire applied mathematics deparment at my university to switch away from Apple. Seriously, this thing is blazingly fast and cuts through numerical computations on MATLAB and C!

    Hi Michael:
I've had about half a dozen ThinkPads over the last 15 years.  My experience has been that there will be a very tiny amount of 'rubbing off' (wear) of the paint in the corners after about 3 years of use.  By 'tiny amount', I mean maybe a small spot that is about 1 mm in diameter in each corner.
I just purchased a new W520 (got it about 6 weeks ago) and I have been carring it around in a fairly tight-fitting Targus bag that I keep in the saddlebag of my motorcycle.  In the last 6 weeks, I have ridden about 3,000 kilometers around Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey and Greece with the ThinkPad in my saddlebag - and there is no evidence of any wear at all on the ThinkPad.  The roads are pretty poor in some of these countries, with lots of potholes and bumps...
What I am getting at is this:  If you are seeing paint coming off of the top corners of your ThinkPad (this implies the top corners of your screen), then your laptop must be abrading (rubbing) against the inside of the sleeve that you carry it in, and the material on the inside of the sleeve is kind of working like sandpaper against the finish on the outside of the screen.
When we (as users) think about protecting our laptops with sleeves, bags, backpacks, etc., I think we normally think about protecting them from impact and from 'bumps' - but, if the sleeve is even a tiny bit bigger than the laptop itself, or if the laptop is not held securely (unable to move) in the bag or backpack, the corners of the laptop are going to rub against the protective container.  Depending on what the material is inside the protective container, the results may be nothing at all (if the material is soft and smooth) or abrasion of the paint (if the material has texture to it, or especially if the material is a woven synthetic fibre).
Because of the rather extreme conditions my laptop experiences (in the motorcycle saddlebag), I have made sure that it is a snug fit into the protective bag, and can't move around inside the protective bag.  Hence - no abrasion, no wearing off of the paint.
Hope this information provides you with useful food for thought.

  • I need to get a new hard drive for my 13" mid-2009 MBP but the model number is worn off. Is there a place to find this?

My hard drive needs to be replaced and I am looking to do it myself. However, I am in need of the model number of my MacBook Pro. The issue with this is, it has been worn off. My MacBook Pro is a 13" Mid-2009 model.
    Thanks!

Any 2.5"dia, 9.5mm thick SATA HDD will be compatible.  Look at options here:

  • The SHine Has Worn Off!

I was an AT&T customer for over 9 years. Our area is very rural and they had been promising to get a stronger signal in our area for a long time. My husband finally said; "Why are we paying for services we are not actually getting. Lets switch to Verizon, they have a great signal here." We researched the idea and we spent 7 hours on a live chat with a Verizon agent on Christmas Eve. We were promised seven lines with no deposit on one account as long as we signed all 7 phones up at once. We did, it cost us $987.00 to end all of our contracts early. We ordered our phones with the representative and got all excited. The boxes arrived and we discovered our first lie; we only received 5 phones and one was not even one we ordered. I activated my phone and found out that we had to travel 21 miles south  Verizon dealer to activate the other 4 phones.
After arriving at the dealer, we were told that we had to go there because our signal was not strong enough at our house to do the total activation. (Boom! Should have sen the warning sign then.) The phone we did not order needed to be activated so that we could port over the number. (Boom! Another warning sign, we could not port over any numbers but 2.) We could not figure out why we only received 5 phones and not the original order of 7. (At this point we were jazzed with the strong signal.) It took over 6 calls and 12 hours worth of time on the phone to find out that if we could not add any more phones to our account unless we wanted to pay deposits on them of either $350.00, $275.00 or $150.00, depending on who we talked to. (Boom! Another sign.) One of the phones we did not get belonged to our oldest son who is an EMT and they receive their life threatening notices by text, for example: there is a gun at the scene, or a life threatening viral agent has been spotted or released, etc... Well he does not have a phone now so his life is in danger at this point.
We have already shelled out more money than we had, and they wanted more to get the other two phones. Well we found out that since our son was an administrator on our other account, that he could start his own account without having a deposit. That was great, but now we have to add his little brother to it or pay a deposit on our account. Since I did not have more money to throw at this problem I now have to keep track of two bills. An agent felt bad for us at this point and offered us two Ellipses 7 tablet for only $49.99 and $10.00 a month. I jumped at the deal, than I discovered after we ordered them that we still had to pay  the $150.00 deposits. At this point I had no choice because they ordered them for me. (Boom!) After all of these issues I was still trying to get the phone we did not order returned and we wanted the phone we had ordered; nope now because the agents did not put a note on our account about the issues when told, the 14 day return policy was up and we had to buy the phone we ordered instead of getting it for free. (Boom! Another $299.00).
Now the end of January comes around and all of a sudden our signal is now gone! We cannot have a conversation for more than 25 seconds before the call is dropped. So another 48 plus hours on the phone with agents from Verizon, with at least 7 work orders submitted, and nothing can be done. Our phones want to connect with the Verizon tower just out of reach instead of the towers being rented by Verizon in our area (Thumb Cellular). They say the problem is Verizon's and Verizon says its theirs. All Verizon can tell us is that we can buy a micro tower to boost our signal for $250.00, no way in he** am I putting out more money for something I already pay for, a phone signal.
Now the latest kicker is that I had insurance on all of my phones and tablets, but found out that on my daughter's phone that is no longer even offered for sale by Verizon, in order to have the broken screen fixed on it, I have to come up with $99.00 in order for them to fix it. (BOOM!) I am at the end of my rope paying and paying for promises and services I do not get. I cannot recommend this company to anyone at this point. The only redeeming part of this company is the people we have dealt with, they have all been so nice and tried to fight the red tape that is the company policies. Does anyone know what I can do or have any suggestions of how to et the service I pay for without me shelling out more money? The shine of the new hope that we called Verizon has worn off!

  • Black MacBook's paint flaking off?

There are some buzz about the black paint flaking off from the MacBook.
Anybody experiencing this problem with their black MacBook?
    Here is the link:
    http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=2397

but with all the problems I've been
reading about, I'm really tempted to wait for a
while... what with flaking of the black macbook,
discoloration on the white, mooing and noise with the
macbook pro and heating issues all around...
Dude! Remember where you are. This is a support site. That means if anything goes wrong, people come here for help. But people who are happy and content with their computers don't come here.
I don't know what percentage of problems the Macbooks are having. They are new, and Apple can't test out what everyone everywhere will do with or to their computer...so when people start doing whatever they do, problems appear that were not anticipated. In addition, this is electronics and with electronics, there is a percentage chance of lemons--that's for any electronics that come out from any company no matter how reputable. So no group of electronics is going to ever be trouble free.
This question is, have there been more problems with the MB than expected given this percentage and given that it's being field tested in mass numbers for the first time? If there are more problems...why and were they taken care of? There was reportedly one bad batch. From what I understand, there are no more of that bad batch so you're good to go on the latest ones--or so I've heard. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
My opinion, the MacBook is a FANTASTIC laptop and you should get one. The keyboard can't be beat, the trackpad is great, the screen is wonderful, the built in camera is fun. It is an AMAZING laptop.
No computer is ever guaranteed problem-free forever--and certainly none are ever going to look pristine forever. Like a new car, you will eventually get that first scratch or dent or flake. Laptops take a lot of wear and tear even if you baby them and keep them wrapped in protective covers. Nature of the beast. They go places and get scratched and bumped. But at least this laptop has a magnetic plug, so you know you won't be likely to jerk it off a table and have it crashing to the floor when you trip over the cord.
And you WILL trip over the cord. I did the first week I had it. The magnetic plut pulled right out and the laptop remained undamaged.
Laptops are more delicate than desktops. Again, nature of the beast. Go to an Apple store, test out a MB. If you want it and like it, get it. Cost-wise, it's a great deal for a laptop. Buy Apple care and you'll have it covered for 3 years pretty much no matter what happens.

  • My fingers have a burning sensation while using track pad.  Is there a reduce-friction coating that could have worn off?

I have recently been getting a burning sensation, as if my finger tips are rubbed raw, while using my track pad.  I have been using my MacBook Pro for two years now.  I am wondering if the track pads have a special coating on them to help reduce friction? If there is a friction reducing coating I think it could have worn off over the years of use.  Maybe my fingers have more oils/sweat than most people, which would cause a coating to wear off faster. I stopped using it for some weeks hoping maybe my fingers were sore from something else. But that was not the case.  The burning feeling to my finger tips starts within the first five minutes of using the track pad.
Please let me know if you know anything about Apple using a special coating on the track pad.
    Thanks
    Its a MacBook Pro 13-inch Mid 2010

I have no different issue. Recently I bought MacBook Pro with retina display ang iPhone 6 plus. I have a burning sensation while using mac track pad. it becomes intense shortly using track pad and I cannot work.
The problem is same while using my iphone 6 plus. If it is an allergy to mixing of some metal with aluminium(as some of you have mentioned) it should not be a problem with iphone, but i have the same burning issue with using phone as well.

  • Microsoft Vista Home Premium Product Key worn off

The product key is worn off the sticker on the bottom of my Compaq Presario CQ60 215DX.  I just replaced my hard drive as it crashed.  My 3 Recovery Disks do not work (I created them as soon as I bought the laptop).  I need to know how to obtain the Vista Home Premium Product Key that I have already paid for as part of my purchase of the computer.  HP, based on my serial number, shouldn't you have this information and be able to provide it readily?

Truth be told, no one on the forums here will be able to tell you what your product key is.
If you were able to boot into the Windows that was installed on the old hard drive, there are some utilities out there to retrieve it. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case since the hard drive was replaced and I take it you could not longer boot into Windows on that old drive either.
The best option would be to contact HP support to see if they might have the recovery disks from the factory still available. I suggest this as the hard drive image on those disks will have the product key already activated and ready to go. Once that is backup and going from the recovery disks, then you can use a program to retrieve the product key.
As of this time, the recovery disks can be ordered here. However, I recommend calling HP since the recovery disks you made are not working as they may have some options not available on the site.
The factory recovery disks should get you going again with the original software with an activated Windows key.

everything on the E90 from the smallest screw to the biggest part can be replaced, and any official nokia care center should be able to get you the part(s) needed, not all parts are probably on stock, but they can sure get it for you, and should be able to replace it for you for that matter...

  • DV6-1030US paint coming off left touchpad button

A small rice-sized irregular piece of the chrome paint has come off the plastic left button after only two months. It's not a nice smooth wear spot but with rough edges and is annoying.
I know it's just a cosmetic problem but it seems that the coating should not be coming off a two-month-old laptop that cost $700.
After about 90 minutes with HP Online Chat (who actually suggested I bring it in to the local Wal-mart for some reason !?), the Chat guy gave me a phone number and I talked with a Mumbai-based tech who was only willing to write up a service order for me to send it in which would entail unacceptable loss of use, risk of damage and the shipping expense.
I don't understand why they can't just send a new button cover. It would be cheaper than having me send in a functional laptop for a simple cosmetic repair. With 25 years of hardware & software development, I could easily change the part myself. If anyone has any clue as to how to get a replacement cover (even at my own expense), please let me know.
Meanwhile, I'll continue to be dismayed at the lack of common sense exhibited in my dealings with corporate America.

  • IPhone 5 paint chipping off

I have had my iPhone 5 for a week and a day and the black paint is coming off already! I am 30 years old and take care of my stuff. I have never put it in one of my pockets while there is something else in them. Basicly I have treated this phone like a new born child! I am fuming!

This seems to be a common issue with the iPhone 5. Search the forums here for "iphone 5 chips" or Google the same and you'll come up with a ton of user experiences with the issue.
    You can either:
    1. Live with the scratches/hide them with a case
    2. Return the phone & exchange for another
    3. Return the phone for a refund and purchase at a later time (if/when manufacturing issues are resolved)

  • Keys getting dirty look--paint wearing off!  What does Apple do for this?

This is dismaying. I received a brand new MacBook Pro (early 2008 model) from Apple only a few months ago and the silver paint on several keys is already wearing off! They're getting that dirty look. See http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=451259
I went through something similar with an old iBook G4... On those, the keys' lettering wore off. Apple service was responsive for sure, although it was pretty silly that they kept sending me replacement keyboards Instead of individual keys or decals. After pushing by me, they even sprung for one of those iSkin plasticky keyboard covers (which turned out it interferes with typing and some say can cause a heat problem). Eventually, they sent me a 4th keyboard that didn't wear out at all. So, it seems that they fixed that issue.
Has Apple solved this paint wearing problem for the MBP's? Do I just go the Apple Care route--again-- and do they send out an entire keyboard? What have other people experience and done?
In this case, obviously, they can't send decals as this keyboard is the backlit (underlit) kind!

This is a known issue with the Early 2008 MBP (as well as earlier models). It has nothing to do with dirty hands, or lotions or hands or anything else. Just from plain old use, it wears down the paint on the keys.
The MBP keyboard keys are no longer removable one by one on that model and onward -- you have to bring your MBP into an Apple Store (or call Apple Care) - they will take it in, change it out for a new keyboard (its under warranty for one year, and if you have Apple Care for two additional years). If you are beyond the one year warranty and did not purchase Apple Care, then you will have to pay to have it replaced (probably a couple hundred dollars plus shipping).
The turnaround for something like that is usually about a week if you have to send it in, and a day if you go to the Apple Store. The Apple Store, after deeming it a repair issue, will order the keyboard. Then they will call you to bring in your MBP and leave it for the time it is required for them to fix it -- usually an afternoon, or overnight.
But this is a well-documented and much discussed issue over the years -- it occured to my old MBP as well. Luckily, I have three apple stores all within a half hour drive of me, so I don't worry about those sorts of things. But it's annoying if you have to send it it.
