T61P: Windows Vista SP1 X64: DVD player driver wont work

My 64-bit Vista SP1 T61P has stopped recognizing my DVD drive and I cannot fix the driver by either using WindowsUpdate or by using the ThinkPad SystemUpdate. I could not even find a separate driver for the DVD drive at the lenovo site.
Any suggestions, anyone?
The error that I see in Device manager is:
MAT**bleep**A DVD-RAM UJ-852 ATA Device
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.
Thanks

I had exactly the same problem...I thought it was an x64 driver problem until I tried this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461
...worked like a charm...let me know if that did the trick...brian

  • Boot Camp: Driver Update (Windows Vista SP1)

    I'm running a dual boot MBP Unibody w/ OS X & Vista SP1 64Bit
I don't like to install Boot Camp in the Windows OS due to the fact that updating drivers can be a pain when installed via boot camp. However, since I've done so, I've lost the functionality of some of the hardware.
If anyone can point me to a place where I could find drivers for the following I would greatly appreciate it. If I dont get a response, I will attempt to manually extract the drivers from the OS X Install CD.
    Drivers Needed:
Express Card 34 Slot (The Drivers needed to get the slot to work, regardless of card)
Apple I Sight Built in Camera
    IR Receiver
    Trackpad
    System Specs:
    17" MBP Unibody
    Windows Vista SP1 64Bit
    2.93 / 4GB / 9600M GT
Sonnet Tempo eSata Express/34 Card (Rev. A) (I have the drivers for this, but the card isnt recognized when placed in the MBP)

you must run system 1 dvd where bootcamp is, open folders and there choose driver/64bit ..
no choose witch one you like and install with right-click as problem or something like this.
you take working with vista sp1 before and so on ..
i run 64bit win7 rc1 with all drivers exept isight.

  • What's the right JDK version for windows vista SP1

    Hello guys,
I’m trying to install SQL Developer on my old Windows Vista SP1 but as soon as I run it I got a message: Cannot find a J2SE SDK installed at path C:\Program Files\Java\jre6
I was reading a post and this problem could be solved by installing the JDK. I went to the Java Archive Download website (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javasebusiness`/downloads/java-archive-downloads-javase6-419409.html) and I downloaded 3 versions but none of them are working. There’re tons of them and I really don’t know which one should be the one to be installed in order to get the SQL Developer working. Any chance someone can help me solve this issue?
These are the errors I got when I run the installers:
    Jdk-6u26-windows-i586 – error: D: \Java JDK\jdk-6u26-windows-i586.exe is not a valid Win 32 application. Size of the file downloaded: 7140KB
Jdk-6u26-windows-x64 – error: The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you’re running. Check your computer’s system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64(64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher. (I was quite careless downloading this version cause I know my computer is 32-bit or x86) size of the file downloaded: 69,043KB
    Jdk-6u37-windows-i586 – error: D: \Java JDK\jdk-6u37-windows-i586.exe is not a valid Win 32 application sizeof the file downloaded: 67,756KB
    Thanks loads

    This one should do it.
    http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/jdk/6u38-b05/jdk-6u38-windows-i586.exe
I suspect an issue with your download if you are getting the invalid application message

Unfortunately, the recording & movie industry does not respect the rights of the people who make them money, and thus you can only use the paid-for content in ways they see fit. Even if I lived in a bunker where no one else could possibly see the movie I paid for, therefor I'm not 'sharing it illegally', I would still not be allowed in a blue moon to copy that movie to DVD for TV viewing. Someone will tell you to get an AppleTV. How about Apple give us one for free? Until this changes, people wanting to use their content in multiple locations will continue to download music & movies via torrents, legally or illegally.

  • Distribution of Java JRE on Windows Vista Ultimate x64

The automatic update of the Java JRE on my Windows Vista Ultimate x64 system often comes up saying a new update is available but then as soon as I go ahead to install it, the update tells me that the particular version of the JRE is already installed.
How can this automatic update bug for new JRE installations be fixed.

Uninstall the software cleanly via the "Add or Remove programs" panel, then run another install. The breakdown is in the licensing system, not the application itself. Do not run the clean scripts until you have attempted this. If it still fails, then indeed a call to Adobe tech might do wonders...

  • Will the wired Apple Mighty Mouse work with Windows Vista SP1?

The above question. Will I have to download any extra drivers? Is the MM really that bad? Thanks.

*" Will the wired Apple Mighty Mouse work with Windows Vista SP1?"*
    Officially...No: http://www.apple.com/mightymouse/specs.html
In reality... probably. Why would you want it anyway? There are many many better mice out there.

iTunes cannot work if Quicktime doesn't, so that has to be fixed first.
Have you ever installed any of the following:
ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter
If so the must be uninstalled.
    Then or if you don't have them then continue with this;
Download the version of QUicktime that does not include iTunes:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Remove Quicktime using the method for QUicktime in this article:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
When you get to the system32 folder, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
Restart your PC and then install the Quicktime you just downloaded.
Check to see if it works and if it does try iTunes.

  • DVD player doesn't work correctly

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 laptop. It's pretty new - bought in the summer. The operating system is Windows Vista.
I have a problem with my DVD player. It often just stops working. It sometimes works after I restart the computer, but for short periods of time. When it doesn't work, it doesn't eject when I click the eject button or when I go to My Computer and choose eject from there. In addition, if there's a disk in it, it's not recognized - when I go to My Computer and double click, it says "Please insert a disk."
However, when I click the eject button on the player, an orange light shows up for a second. It doesn't make any sound, though.
When it works and I burn a DVD, the sound it makes isn't continuous which shows that it doesn't work continuously(right?). I mean, it burns and the burning process seems to be getting somewhere and then the sound stops for a few seconds and the bar stops and then they both continue. Maybe this is normal, I don't really know.
I tried Safe Mode to see if it works, but the result is the same.
I also opened the Device Manager and checked if there's an update, but there's none.
I tried System Restore too, but it didn't work.
Somehow, I think the problem is with the driver because the orange light appears when I click the eject button, but I don't know anything about DVD players, so I'm not sure about anything.
I really don't want to reinstall Windows because firstly, the process of first backing up everything, then waiting for it to reinstall and then get everything on there again (and installing the millions of programs I'm using again) is just stupid, takes to long and it usually doesn't solve problems anyway. Reinstalling is one of my last options, together with taking it to the repair people. Right now, I really need my laptop every day so if there's no solution, it might take a while before I find time to take it there. Thanks to everyone that replies.

I think I found out something new today. I had the same problem again, but the DVD player wouldn't work even after I restarted several times and went into Safe Mode. Accidentally, though, when I wanted to restart the last time, I clicked the hibernate button and when I turned the laptop on again, the DVD player worked. It might just be a coincidence, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

  • Dvd player does not work after Leopard upgrade

I installed Leopard, had to upgrade because my printer died and no printers now work with Tiger.  Since the upgrade, my DVD player does not work.  I have problems burning some cd's too.  Is this a known issue?  What is the fix?

I have read a couple of complaints like that, but not sure it's widespread.
At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.
If that does NOT help, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
If that does NOT help then I suspect the optical drive or media itself, or possibly just needs a cleaning CD run on it.

  • I installed iTunes 10.5.3.3 and now my DVD player won't work.

I installed iTunes 10.5.3.3 and now my DVD player won't work and has this error:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.
Any ideas why iTunes renders my DVD drive unusable?  I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and when reinstalling I had my device manager open and saw during the installation how my DVD player went from accessible to not being able to start.
    Why is this happening?
    Here is my computer information:
    Dell
    Latitude D630
Intel Core  Duo CPU T770 @2.40 Hz
    4.00 GB RAM
    32-bit Operating System
