T61P won't power up when placed in dock 25% of the time

I do a shutdown of my computer at home and go to the office. I have the advanced dock (fancy one by whatever name) at the office. Sometimes when I place the computer in the dock, the power indicators on the laptop do not come on and pressing the power on the dock doesn't do anything either. The eject button stays green showing it doesn't think anything is there.
I am running WinXp, I have external keyboard and monitor attached to the dock so when docked, the lid is closed.
Seating and re-seating the laptop have no effect and it does make the exact same clicking sounds of the dock adapter parts lining up just fine.
But if I remove the laptop, then remove the battery from the laptop and reinstall the battery, then back into the dock it works fine every time. Is this a sign of something wrong with the dock, laptop or battery??

There is nothing in the connectors, and on a T61P, the dock connector seems to close itself so things can't get in anyway.
But the key is I can try docking 5 or 10 times (if it doesn't dock the first time) and it never sees the dock. But as soon as I remove and replace the battery, it always sees the dock and powers up normal.
So the dock isn't seeing the laptop as the power button on the dock does nothing and the ejector button stays green, while the battery/ac icons on the top of the laptop stay dark.
So I'm guessing something about how it powers down that isn't right 25%-35% of the time and that remove/replace the battery resets that.
It (like a few other things) are annoying about this generation of laptops. The quality of the T61 just doesn't compare to some of the older Axx series 'mobile workstations'.

The preinstalled apps, those that came as part of the iOS, cannot be deleted and will not shake or provide the black circle-X for deletion.
Others should do that if you touch and hold for a few seconds.
If they are not, do a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears and it restarts, ignoring the red slider if that appears.

When placing a png in indesign the png changes/loses its orginal color.

When placing a png in indesign the png changes/loses its original color. Ex. the very clear blue that I am using turns dark and "dirty". ( my RGB is : 5,125, 255 - when I type this I get a " out of gamut warning" a little yellow icon. When I click on it indesign automatically changes the RGB into: 67, 117, 187)
I have worked with indesign for 6 years and never experienced this before. I am guessing it has something to due with that the png is in RGB and indesign in cmyk, but I have no idea what to do about it?

Out of Gamut means the color cannot be printed in your current workspaces using CMYK inks. You would see a preview of the converted color if you move into Overprint Preview, use Proof Colors, or there is transparency and the blend space is set to CMYK.
If this is destined for screen use, then the color doesn't matter, but you should be sure the blend space is set to RGB.

OK, fixed it. Found that iPhoto is now BACK in the App store.
Found iPhoto app in Finder and dragged it to Trash.
Downloaded iPhoto from App store and all now back working again.
Didnt expect to find iPhoto in App store as last time I looked it wasn't available.

You didn't have enough battery power left when performing the update, and it died? That's bad.
You should be able to reinstall OS X using OS X Recovery or in the case of an older MacBook Air running Snow Leopard, by using your original System Install DVD and Remote Install OS X from another Mac.
Reinstalling OS X does not erase your user accounts or data.

Power button fails to work about 95% of the time

I have a Toshiba P205-S6267 that is having a strange issue.
About 95% of the time the power button fails to work when on battery, and it fails 100% of the time when the AC adapter is plugged in.
I am getting pretty stumped on this one and starting to think I may need to replace the 7-button circuit under the power button. Before I spend the $55 to do that, I wanted to see if anyone had any advice for me.
Here are the things I have tried.
- the standard unplug the power / battery and wait a few minutes then plug it back in.
- tried this only on battery, same issue
- tried only on AC, won't power up at all
- checked AC adapter with multimeter and it was outputting the correct voltage (also it keeps the battery charged still)
- removed the keyboard and speaker cover then reseated the 7-button circuit
- cleaned the ribbon cable contacts and reseated the ribbon cable for the circuit
- removed RAM and tried each stick by itself, no change.
I'm kind of lost here. Again, I am probably at a point where I need to replace hardware but I don't want to drop the cash without some kind of verification that I'm not retarded.

Ah, I've been playing around with this and it seems I was mistaken about the nature of the problem.
It is deterministic, for one. It seemed nondeterministic because the action that makes the glasspane paint() fail is the act of giving focus to the JInternalFrame that the glasspane belongs to.
Why does giving focus to a JInternalFrame disable that frame's GlassPane? I can take focus away from it, and the repaint() method starts working again.

Flash CS5 / CS5.5 crashes when importing images, and all of the time

Hi.
I started working on an animation file in Flash recently. It was ok at first, but now it crashes all of the time. It crashes almost 100% of the time when I try to import a sequence of jpegs, but it also seems to crash for no reason at all - when I click on a frame in the timeline, or when I move forward/back through frames on the timeline.
This happened when I was using CS5, so I installed my upgrade copy of 5.5, and that didn't help. I upgraded my computer from 32bit XP to 64bit Window7. I'm now running a fresh install of CS5.5 on a fresh install of Windows 7. It still crashes exactly the same.
I got an error log when I installed the programs. I don't know if it is related. It looks like this:

5.1.1 is the highest iOS that an iPad 1 can run. If the iPad is crashing, try a reset (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays, see if the crashing issue is resolved.

When will Tiger fall back on the time?

I checked system preferences time and date and can't figure out when Tiger will fall my time on my computer back one hour - it hasn't done so yet. It is setup to get date & time from Apple server automatically.

You can check the dates when it changes by opening up the Terminal Application and copying and pasting (or type) these commands at the prompt:
<pre class="command">zdump -v /etc/localtime | grep 2007</pre>
When you hit the "Enter" key, zdump will list all the time transitions for the current location, then send them to the grep program, which searches for "2007". This is what my computer says:

You can change the year in the end to look at different years. If there was no transition in a year, it just comes back to your prompt. If you want to see all the time zone transitions for your current location, just delete the | grep 2007 part of the command:

T61P - Won't Power Down - Win Installer Seems Broken Too

Not sure which patch mucked up T61 but Vista Business SP2 will no longer shut down. When pressing power button or using Win shutdown command, system hangs and eventually produces BSOD (BCCode 9f). Can't make much sense of mindump. Event viewer shows 2 critical errors related to Kernel-Power without additional comment; I believe this was an 'issue' before. 2308 errors in 7 days, 7639 warnings, most prominent event id 4676 Servicing Hotfix patches.
sfc checked. no malware trace, hardware fine. Disabled nonessential start-ups but same result.
Strangest thing; programs no longer install. Getting progress bar to 99% before installer hangs. No logs as far as I can tell. Baffled how this is all related..
No restore points.
Suggestions are most welcome.

T61p won't power up from battery - very strange problem

A couple of days ago I put my computer into hibernation as normal - half an hour later I noticed that my bag was very warm and discovered the computer had turned itself on again. I experimented a couple of times and found that even when I shut down the computer, when I shut the lid, or just randomly, it would turn itself on again. This problem seems to have disappeared after a day, but now I cannot power up the laptop from the battery, only from the ac cable. The battery is working fine - if I disconnect the ac cable after the computer has turned on then it continues to work, and the battery is only a few months old.
Any help would be very much appreciated - I am pretty much baffled by this.

G4 won't power up when pressing front power button.

Hi all
I'm faced with another problem. I was trying to power up my other G4 500mhz( Blank internal hard drive) from a outside source OSX cd but it doesn't even power up at all. Shouldn't it power up even from a bootable OSX cd? Or with nothing at all? I should be able to hear the fan or something start up.
What can it be?

I noticed no battery on my AGP G4 tower so I took one from my other G4 (which is pretty dead) and put it in the AGP one.
Even though I still need a hard drive with a good OSX installed will it work if I don't follow the below steps? Or should I follow thru the steps any way?

Resetting the PMU Chip Procedure
1. Disconnect the power cord and check the battery in the battery holder (BT1). The battery should read 3.3 V to 3.7 V. If the battery is bad, replace the battery, wait ten seconds, and then reset the PMU (refer to the next step). If the battery is good, go to the next step.
2. Press the PMU reset switch (S1) once on the logic board. Do not press the PMU reset switch a second time because it could stop the PMU chip from responding.
3. Wait ten seconds before connecting the power cord and turning the computer on. If the computer turns on, go to the next step. If the computer does not turn on, there is something else wrong with the computer.

My iphone keeps cycling apple logo, it won't power up when connected to a computer. I can power it up with just a power source, but the it comes up to a generic iphone "no service" screen

This phone worked great for 2 years until I inherited it from my partner. Since we changed the phone over to me, it has done this 4 times. The last 3 times it somehow magically came back after taking the Sim card out and putting it back in. I even went and got another new Sim card, in case that was the problem. Apparently it is not, because now I cannot get it to come back at all. I get either the generic gray "no service" screen, or it just cycles the apple logo. I've tried holding the buttons down together, separately, everything. Nothing seems to work. Since the phone is no longer under warranty, am i basically screwed?

Could you specify the model of MacBook and the OS X it's running, please? Some of the advice or references vary along with the system, so this could be helpful to formulate a reply. I've never used a Guest User selection, but do have more than one User.
If the computer does not have an optical drive, you may be able to boot it into a recovery disk mode or something; in an attempt to see what is wrong and maybe fix it.

My macbook pro froze and initially would not even recognize the power chord. Now it charges, but will not load up. I opened in in disk utility to try and back it up so that I could take it to apple to have it fixed but I got the message that said "disk utility can't repair this disk backup as many of your files as possible". How do I back up the files???

you can try the method described on this Apple page, in the “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility” section. (You can skip step 6, since you already know that your disk is irreparable.) Note, however, that this method is not guaranteed to work. Once you get your disk straightened out, you might consider purchasing an external hard disk for use as a Time Machine backup destination, so that a similar problem in the future won’t wipe out the only copy of your files.

I have tried clearing my history to remove an incorrectly keyed login but it won't disappear and when I try to key in the correct login, it automatically thinks I want the earlier one and selects it for me so I can't login to the site!!

I just registered on a site with the login leigh110174 and when I went to log back into the site, I inadvertently typed Leigh110174. Now when I try to correct the logon to leigh110174, and then tab to the password field, it autocorrects to Leigh110174 and I cannot change this. Each time I correct it to lowercase l and nagivate to either the logon button or password field, it auto corrects to the uppercase L, which means I cannot log into this site. I have cleared my recent history (last hour as I been on the pc less than an hour) but this did not remove the auto pop up or help at all.

Make sure that you haven't saved Uppercase and Lowercase versions of that name and password.
