T61p WUXGA screen is kinda dim, is this normal?

I just got a factory refurbished T61p with a WUXGA screen.  In case you're wondering, the laptop was in a sealed Lenovo box with the original Lenovo seal tape so I'm pretty sure its genuine Lenovo refurbished.  I got it from techforless.
Anyway, compared to my cheap R61i WXGA, the screen is a bit dimmer.  Not sure if this is normal or the backlighting might not be performing to spec.  I'm not a big fan of super bright screens but this definitely feels dim even for me.  I've double checked the backlight setting and its maxed out.  I'll run a calibration on it tomorrow and post the actual value for white at max but I'm pretty sure its ~100 cd/m2 or less going by eye.
Working in total darkness is ok but anything else and it seems lacking.

the WUXGA lcd on the T61p is dimmer than the WXGA LCD of the R61i, but it should be usable. If it is really dim, then this may mean the LCD could have been used quite extensively prior to the refurb. You should call up the store where you bought it from, or get warranty to replace the LCD.

  • White screen when charging. Is this normal?

I just purchased the 8gb itouch (2nd gen). So far I love it. However, something that seems odd happend twice in the first night that I have had it. With the itouch turned off yet connected to the computer, after a short while I look over at it and the entire screen has gone from "off" to all white even though it is turned off. I turn the device on then off and everything works as it should. Is this just something it does when connected to the computer or should I be exchanging this for a new one at Best Buy?

I'm having the same problem with the white screen on my 32 gb Touch. I connect it to my Mac Book Pro at night look at it in the morning and the screen is completely white. I have to hold down the center button and the top button to get it to restart and when it does the battery is in the red. I've exchanged it twice since September. I sent the last one to Apple and just got a cheery email from them telling me that they can't find anything wrong with it and they're sending it back with notes on troubleshooting.
I absolutely hate it when they pretend that this is the first time they've heard of such a thing. But I have AppleCare and I'm just going to keep taking it back until I get satisfaction.

  • Just got the iPad air 2. When compared to the iPad 4th gen the new screen looks darker. Is this normal?

I Just got the iPad Air 2. When I compare it to the 4th gen iPad that I have the new one screen looks darker. Any reason for the same?

Have you tried turning the screen brightness setting to a higher level?

  • My 4th generation iPod nano was washed, screen is super dim, how can I fix this?

So a few months ago, I accidentally left my blue 4th generation iPod nano in my pant pocket. My clothes were set to wash with the iPod in my pants. I'd completely forgot about it being in there. After finding out what had happened, I let the iPod soak in a jar of rice for about a month. I took it out to see if anything had worked but it wouldn't turn on.
Thinking it might need a charge, I plugged it in and found that it turns on only while it's plugged in and instantly turns off when unplugged. I also noticed that the screen is extremely dim, even when put on full brightness. It's as if I turned the brightness all the way down, even though I'm putting it all the way up. I also tried connecting it to iTunes to try to see what I could find. The attempt was unsuccesful as the iPod went unrecognized on iTunes v10.5.
I'm not sure what else I could do to fix this. Has anything similar to this happened to you before?
Also, I have a 4th generation iPod touch and iPhone 4. I honestly don't need this iPod at all, but it'd still be nice to get it fixed for extra use.
Thanks for any help in advance!

I would recommend taking it in to your local Apple Store to see what the people at the Genius Bar can do for you.

  • TS3274 When using my IPad, the screen will go dim and I need to tap it restore it  to its bright state. This same thing happens  many, many times while I am using it.

When I am using my IPad, the screen will get dim and I need to tap the screen to get it to brighten up again.  This happens repeatedly while I am using it. Is there something I can do to stop that from happening?

You don't necessarily need to set it to never...being set that way, you'll risk depleting the battery in case you forget to lock the screen.
Instead, use a value greater than your previous 2 minute setting...see which time setting would work for you. The settings are:
    2 Minutes
    5 Minutes
    10 Minutes
    15 Minutes
    Never

  • Screen went dark/dim.  How do I fix it?

    2nd generation iTouch.
Screen went dark/dim (can barely read it under a light).
Any ideas on how to fix it?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • After listening to NPR for about a minute, screen fades to dim, then to black then stops playing.

After listening to NPR for about a minute, screen fades to dim, then to black then stops playing.
I have to open the phone again, the player is still visible, so I start playing again and the same sequence happens about 1:10 later and on and on.
I thought it might be the facebook thing so I deleted my facebaook account from my iphone, restarted the iphone (reboot) and it still does the same thing.
What am I missing here? I don't see any screen saver settings or anywhere else I can stop this fom happening. I reach NPR on the Google search app.
    Could that have a connection?
Thanks!  Iphone 4s and IOS 6.0.1

That's why this is happening, you're not using an app designed to run in the background. Look in the app store to see if NPR has a dedicated app. If so, & you use their app, it should run in the background. The only other way to stop this would be to set Auto-Lock to "Never". However, if you did that, you'll be measuring your battery life in minutes.

  • IPhone was in my pocket and my pants got wet...now the screen is very dim

Hi - I had my iPhone in my jeans pocket and I got soaked. The iPhone had a protective plastic covering on it. Everything seems to be working but the screen is very dim. Can anyone offer any advice or suggestions on how or if this can be fixed?

Another alternative is silica gel pacs which may be a more effective drying agent. Turn the phone off and leave the phone in a sealed bag with the gel pacs or rice for at least 5 days before tying it again. Never use direct heat such as a hair dryer.

If this doesn't fix it, Apple will replace your out of warranty iPhone (including water damaged phones) for $199.

Also, there are 3rd party iPhone repair services which may be cheaper. Google is your friend to find these.

  • T400 LCD screen is very dim, but icon lights for HDD, etc. are working

Hi - I'm wondering if anyone knows what the issue with my T-400 would be if the LCD screen is very dim.  Details include:
    - When I boot up, there's a faint outline of what is going on, but barely noticeable since the whole screen is very, very dim
    - Video card is working okay, because I can operate the laptop when I plug in an external monitor
    - The icon lights for HDD, power, battery, etc. are still working
Thanks so much for the help.

First a question: Is it a CCFL backlight or LED? If it is a CCFL, it could be just the inverter, which is a lot cheaper than the panel. If the CCFL bulb goes out, usually (but not always) there is a red tint to the screen for a while first. The LED backlights are less likely to blow and there is no inverter. (The LED backlight is DC and the inverter convers the DC to AC to drive the CCFL bulb) Do you know which kind of backlight you have? If you don't know, send me your full model and serial in a pm and I'll look it up. Don't post it in the open forum. Also, what were you doing when it went out? Were you doing anything except normal work, like taking something apart or hooking something up?

  • My screen is very dim

My screen seems very dim on my MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, even under direct light the screen I have to strain to see the screen.

My screen is also going dimmer and I have the f6 setting at highest setting. Please tell me how to adjust in sys. prefs?
F6 does not adjust the screen at all. F6 is foir the adjustment of the keyboard backlighting.
Use F2 to brighten your screen.
Under Sytem Preferences, Display pane, also de-select the Automatic brightness setting. This will permit you to adjust the display to your liking. However, it also generally consumes more battery power (if running on battery) to keep a screen at full brightness manually.

  • Screen is very dim, black screen

Hi, my wife first edition ipad is 4 years old, the screen is very dim, you can see the screen righting and apps if you use a touch, I have done a system restore and a full reboot but is still the same, I have also turned the brightness up still no good, could really do with some help & please don't ask me to hold buttons down, already done cheers tom

        Jeffdesersa,
Don't worry, ok? This is scary to see but we will help fix it for you. How are you trying to activate the phone? Have you tried connecting the phone to a computer and using iTunes to activate it? Activating that way may just do the trick!

  • The screen is dark(dim)

I just bought a Miix 2 8 online. I  found it was so difficult boot. it always keep  in a black screen. Finnally i found that the tablet had started indeed, but the screen is dim that I cannot see the loading information clearly. How can i deal with this problem. It drives me crazy!!

Unfortunately, the Miix doesn't provide external/hardware brightness controls, and Windows 8.1 doesn't include baked-in gestures for controlling screen brightness. If the screen is so dim you can barely see the Windows interface, you have a catch-22 in that it's going to be difficult to increase your screen brightness without increased screen brightness.
You can do the following to increase your screen brightness:
Swipe in from the right to display the Charms Bar.
    Tap Settings.
At the bottom of the Settings Charm, you should see a Brightness (probably) or Screen button. Tap it and adjust the brightness using the slider that appears.
Once you have the brightness set so you can work comfortably, I would recommend trying the TouchMe Gesture Studio app to assign a little-used gesture for increasing screen brightness.
    Hope that's helpful!

  • Macbook pro 2011 screen doesn't dim all the way in part of the screen

    Hi, all--
This is really puzzling me so I hope someone can help me out. My Macbook Pro 13 inch (2011, Sept.) screen, when you dim it about halfway or less, shows something like a yellowish splotch in the middle of the screen, the size of around 4 quarters clustered in the middle. It was to the point where I could easily read the text on the screen even though the rest of the screen was pitch black. Now it's less pronounced (it was really bad about 5 minutes ago) but the middle of the screen is still readable even when the rest of the screen is black.
Does anyone know why this is, or why it might have gotten so obvious earlier? It was so bad that when the screen dimmed automatically there was literally this yellowish cast in the middle such that it wouldn't dim.
    Please help!
    Thanks.

That's not normal, and I've not experienced this with two MBPs. I would suggest you visit your local Apple Store/Genius Lounge so that they can repair the problem. In any case, post here with your results; I'm sure fellow users would profit from the information!

  • Screen is now dim/darker in Windows Boot Camp

I'm running Windows XP on my iMac through boot camp. While playing WoW the other day the screen suddenly dimmed as if someone had just drastically reduced the brightness/gamma. This has never happened before.
When I reboot, the screen is bright as normal for a few moments, then flicks back to being dim. The only recent change to the mac was an update a few days ago (it was quite large; Itunes 10 plus some other updates). The brightness is fine in osx. The problem didn't occur right after the update, just randomly during a game. I thought I had pressed an incidental key combination.
No settings were manually changed so I cannot understand why it would suddenly do this. It seems Windows is switching over to a duller screen mode just after boot.
Not knowing the cause I tried to adjust the gamma settings in Windows with QuickGamma, but I cannot make the screen look like it's former glory. It just makes the screen look brighter in a bad way, lacking depth and saturation.
Is this a current issue with a recent update or something else?

    Same here.
    Yesterday the screen was ok
Today screen is very dim mostly at the top
when awaking fom sleep it is ok but a second after it gets dim again
    Any help?

  • Screen won't dime when making a call...

I've had my iphone a while along with the CORRECT case and all of a sudden, when making a call the screen won't dim so I'm constantly hitting numbers or whatever with my cheek....
Does anyone else have this issue?

This is an issue with the proximity sensor, which has been discussed in hundreds of posts in this forum, which makes you wonder why the search option even exists.
The sensor is either blocked by dust, dirt or a screen protector, or defective. In both cases you'd better take the phone to a Nokia Care Point for assessment
