T6300 ALOM hangs at login prompt?

Hi,
We have a T6300 server. I have got the ALOM details from the chassis server.
When I connect to the ALOM IP address it hangs at the ALOM login prompt:
login as:
Copyright 2008 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All rights reserved.
Use is subject to license terms.
Sun(tm) Advanced Lights Out Manager CMT v1.6.4
Please login:
Any ideas why it would load and then hang and not let me type at the "Please login:" prompt?
I'm guessing I need to reboot the ALOM, is this possible to do without effecting the running server? If so how?
Thank You

That question has come up before bout that Knowledge Base article; all of the tips and suggestions in that remain valid under 10.4 (I suspect the article was retitled when Tiger first came out, in anticipitation of a never-needed Tiger version of the same article).
Would you know if anyone had been playing around with keyboard inputs in System Preferences? That's a 'gotcha' where if someone is playing around with the settings and decides to set say Dvork keyboard as the input method, normal Roman keyboard keystrokes will be putting out the wrong characters. (That happened on one lab Mac once; after figuring out the problem, I used a Dvork keyboard map to translate the desired password into Dvork-equivalant keystrokes.)

  • Solaris Appears to Hang on Boot - No Login Prompt/X Doesn't Start

    Hi,
I've using Solaris for just a few days, and I'm starting to get somewhere with it, but I've hit a problem I'm not sure how to resolve.
The system appears to boot normally up to the point of the prompt "Wait for the login screen before attempting login".
I used to be able to produce a Login prompt during this message, then X would start, but since I installed OSS, it just sits there, not responding. X seems to fail to start, but no messages are displayed.
What do I need to do exactly in order to stop OSS loading? I think this is the cause of the fault.
OSS is up to date, but Solaris 10 is a clean install (2008.05).
I'm going to need a step-by-step to fix this. I don't even know how to invoke a console based text editor right now - I've been using gedit from X.
    Best regards,
    AstroTux.

    Astro,
Have just experienced the same thing - exactly - on SXCE snv_103 (11/08)! In the past, in debugging X server issues, we could boot to safe mode and edit pertinent files from there...
NOW, we're getting no login screen at all, and can't use the keyboard to 'stop' the xserver from running, as it apparently isn't! Did you find a fix for this? Lou

  • System Hang at Login

    Hello all,
I am writing regarding a recent weird event that happened on a Solaris 10 with 7 local zones on it that I have no idea what happened. Maybe some of you experienced this kind of event before.
Trying to login trough ssh to the server, after login prompt would appear and password was typed correctly the login would just hang with no additional information ( if the password was typed wrong it would output the usual : "Login Incorrect" ). In the meantime, connected to the ILOM console and noticed that it was logging every login i was doing trough ssh ( all halted ). Trying to start the /SP/console it would also halt, eventually being left with the only option of restarting the server. After restart, everything presented itself ok, all services starting and no other problem arose.
    The server is a Solaris 10 Generic_137111-08 sun4v sparc SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise-T5220.
Trying to debug this I couldn't find any relevant information in messages logs or any crash core dump.
Any idea on what might have happened? Thank you in advance.

Hello Andrew, thanks for your input.
Well, I tried looking at /var/adm/messages before and there were absolutely no entries for that day, except the request for Power-Off and the ones at boot-up process. But did found some weird input from the boot-up :

As you can see not using NAS(NFS), but SAN ( NetApp). But reading your point I think it makes perfect sense ( yes, the /usr/sbin/quota trap is there in /etc/profile ). The global zone of the system is using server-internal storage, but all the local zones are using external storage.

  • Emac hangs at login, valid passwords no longer work

My daughter's emac, running 10.4.8, hangs at login during startup. Just the spinning disc. I started up from the original disc and used disk utility to repair disk and repair permissions. Starting up in Safe Boot mode i get as far as the password prompt but when the correct passwords are entered the screen image shimmies back and forth. I have reset the passwords using the startup disk and it continues to happen. I know that the passwords are reset becuse the new prompt shows up.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Exchange 2010 all mail clients with internal cached and internal non-cached mode users having connection status issues, login prompt -- external is fine either way

    Hello,
I'm seeing an issue that started this past Monday with no recent change to our environment.
External Outlook Anywhere users and Mobile users, OWA users are unaffected.
Internal Users are affected when using Outlook of any version, 2010 or 2013.
-Internal Users normally log into their workstation with their ad credentials, domain joined machines. Outlook opens without credentials prompting ideally.
    1 . Using Cached Mode:
    a. Login Prompts, slowness - Since Monday, users are getting prompted to login. The prompt goes away after logging in at startup. It is also causing high CPU
    on the workstations.
    b. Free/Busy, Out of Office doesn't work. I can, however complete auto-setup for a new user, so autodiscover is not completely down for internal users.
    c. Checking Connection Status shows connecting status on highlighted entry below without ever establishing connection (just goes away).
The outlook icon in the system tray says "Outlook is requesting data from the server":
    2. Using Non-cached mode
    a. No Login Prompt at startup, business as usual
    b. Free/Busy, Out of Office works fine. Autodiscover is fine.
    c. Checking Connection Status shows normal except, it has "casarray URL, then status is referral" it seams to flicker this constantly then go away intermittently.
    d. Main issue in non-cached mode is, sometimes a user will log into windows, open outlook and it will not open and says "server is unavailable. Retry, work offline, or cancel" I can try re-opening, same message.
Only after logging out of windows, logging back in, I can get back into outlook. This is not every time, or consistent with specific users, but random.
    3. Lync Pop up  for credentials often, though entering the password.
URLs are correct. Autodiscover, EWS, etc.
Already tried bypassing our loadmaster load balancer with host files on clients. same issue regardless of casarray node.
Not sure what is going on.

You have a hybrid configuration with Office 365, right?  You didn't provide this valuable piece of information.
In Exchange Online PowerShell run this command:
    Get-OrganizationConfig | FL PublicFoldersEnabled
If the value is "Remote" then users with Exchange Online mailboxes are looking to on-premises public folders.  Be sure that you have legacy pubic folder interoperability properly configured.

  • Lion 10.7 gray progress bar appears under Apple logo on startup.  Slow to boot to login prompt or Finder

iMac Troubleshooting topics section shows this topic for SnowLeopard10.6 and suggests that there may be a hard disk problem.  Recommendation was to startup iMac from the 10.6 install disk and use Disk Utility to attempt to repair the hard disk.  Lion 10.7.2 was downloaded so there is no disk to attempt this repair with.  Any suggestions or experience with the gray cloth screen in Lion and a progress bar under the Apple logo on boot up?  It seems to take a lot longer to boot up now to get a login prompt or desktop than when it was fresh out of the box in July 2011 with Snow Leopard 10.6  Thanks for your help!

    just an idea
first shut down your mac then , unplug your keyboard if is a wired one , or remove battery from your wirless keyboard then power up your mac , does the progress bar appear again ?

  • Avoid Database Login prompt when using CrystalReportViewer

Is there a way to keep the Database Login prompt from coming up when using Crystal Reports runtime 2008 SP2? I'm using that plus Visual Studio 2008 to develop a Windows Form application to view reports on a client machine that accesses data on a seperate SQL Server 2005 machine. My customer would like to avoid having users manually enter anything everytime a report is opened with the Crystal Reports viewer.
I've used the following code with ODBC and OLE DB report connections. When I use ODBC, the prompt comes up with Integrated Security checked which must be cleared. When I use OLE DB, the prompt comes up with Database Name blank and greyed out so I cannot manually enter it.
    Am I missing something here?
    Imports CrystalDecisions.Shared
    Imports CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine
    Imports CrystalDecisions.Windows.Forms
    Public Class Form1
Private Sub setDatabaseLogon(ByVal myConnectionInfo As ConnectionInfo)
Dim logOnInfos As TableLogOnInfos = CrystalReportViewer1.LogOnInfo
For Each logOnInfo As TableLogOnInfo In logOnInfos
                logOnInfo.ConnectionInfo = myConnectionInfo
            Nex
        End Sub
        Private Sub ConfigureCrystalReports()
Dim myConnectionInfo As ConnectionInfo = New ConnectionInfo()
            setDatabaseLogon(myConnectionInfo)
            myConnectionInfo.DatabaseName = "ClearView"
            myConnectionInfo.UserID = "reports"
            myConnectionInfo.Password = "dstreports"
            myConnectionInfo.IntegratedSecurity = False
        End Sub
        Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
            ConfigureCrystalReports()
        End Sub
    End Class

Thanks Jonathan for the tip. I tried it before and after the setDatabaseLogin call yesterday, but got the same results. I'm still going to follow your suggestion because that makes more sense.
Turns out it was the configuration of my ODBC/System DSN that was causing the problem. I reconfigured the System DSN by clearing the check box to provide username/password and now I don't get the Database Login anymore.
I found a different blog post that answered the OLE DB issue I was seeing where the DatabaseName was coming up blank:
    Login Error Database at Runtime
Haven't tried it yet and probably won't because I got the Viewer to work with ODBC the way I like it.
    Thanks for the help!

  • VS Net 3.5 Crystal Reports Deployment causing database login prompt

I have deployed a Visual Studio executible module written in VB Net 3.5 SP 1 with Crystal Reports. When the user tries to view a report(s)
they are prompted to login in to the data base that has been data sourced into the report module. The correct database was verified before the build was made. The developer is able to run the report in a run mode on the local machine where the VB project was created.
In the properties section in the project the following check boxes pertaining to reports were checked on:
Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008(x86, x64)
Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Report Viewer
Notes: If the executible module is deployed to a machine that has Visual Studio 2008 installed, the Reports run fine without a database login prompt.
If the executible module is deployed to a machine that does not have Visual Studio 2008 installed, the user is prompted for a login.
The data base is a SQL server 2008 database.
I'm being prompted for a server/database login when deploying the application and running it on a machine that does not have Visual Studio 2008 installed on it. One thing I forgot to mention is that the prompt dialog has only the database server name pre-filled but there is
no database name in the dialog. Both of these fields are grayed out. The Crystal Report was updated to reference the new server and database, and I also verified the database successfully.

    Hello,
Not sure what DB driver you used to create the reports but if it's the native driver then you need to install the Native client from MS SQL Server 2008 CD/DVD onto the app server also.
MS SQL 2008 will not use MDAC, which is always installed. It requires the client to be installed.
There is also an issue when using OLE DB driver and Time(7) field types in MS's driver and Crystal Reports. Cr see's them as string fields, the driver returns the wrong field type to CR. ODBC does work with these field types.
And is your application running in 32 or 64 bit mode?
    Thank you
    Don

    Hi,
For Login prompt appearing, please refer to:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943280. also, please make sure you have already add this site into trusted sites zone in IE since after this settings, you will not get the read only/edit popup windows. you can change different computers to test
to check if the office settings has some special. in addition, please keep one version of office product.
For he excel files open in browser and then have a option to open in Excel, please go to library settings > advanced settings > Opening Documents in the Browser to check if both sites have the same settings. also, maybe you miss click the open in word/
open in excel button after open in brwser.

    I have a similar problem.

Search regarding blank screen turned up this thread, https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=151240 , which seemed relevant. It led to KMS though not sure exactly what that does even after reading the Wiki so I decided to post here rather than tinker with it and risk making things 100x worse than they already are.
Any idea as to what could be causing my irregular boot behavior?

cfr wrote:Although that thread seems similar, I'm not sure how this could be the same issue as I thought KMS required a suitable video driver. Still, you could try passing nomodeset on the kernel command line as described in that thread. The worst that will happen is that it won't work. (You can edit the line from the grub menu so if it doesn't work you can just reboot and be back to the same settings you had before.) I guess you'd have to boot a few times to know if it helped.
Hmm, that seems to have fixed my problem. 9 successful reboots in a row. Figured with my erratic boot behavior as opposed to 100% blank screening that my problem was far worse when in fact the solution seems to have turned out to be quite simple.  Oopsie. My bad guys.
Followed these steps to make the changes persistent, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kernel_parameters , and seems to be holding up well. Will go ahead and marked as Solved and hope no more monitor boot problems arise.

    Nope. Nope. Yep.

Cool, first time I've heard of this and just tested that out. Looks to be a wealth of information. Will have to remember this next time I have boot woes.

  • Item Level Security and opening documents Login Prompts

    Hi all,
Someone has created a document within a specific document library. On this Document Library we've set the Item Security per Item. We assigned Read Permissions to a couple of users to this document.
When users try to open the document it comes with a couple of Login Prompts each time the user opens the documents. When other document libraries with normal permissions it doesn't show the Login Prompts.
Why does these Login Prompts come up?
    Thanks

Does the library have versions enabled? Also are these logins occuring within word/excel etc?
If there's multiple login prompts which occur even if entering valid credentials what does hitting escape (after the first prompt) achieve, does the document open anyway?
There's a situation where Office will prompt for credentials if you open a document when you've only got read access but there's a version history (to which you don't have access). This is to allow you to enter more highly privelidged credentials if you
    want to.

  • Lack of hard drive space overnight and oddity at login prompt.

I have recently seen something weird on my iMac. At the login prompt my computer reads: "My Computer (2)" it never did previously. Then when I checked my hard drive space it was at 110 GB available, it now is 50 GB available. What is this issue? Is the whole hard drive copied or something weird. It is also very slow with Adobe CS4 and this was never an issue.

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Boot from your Mac install disc and run Disk Utility in case the startup disk needs repairs.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*
If you cannot boot from your install disc, try booting in Safe Mode

  • How to avoid login prompt when viewing reports

    Hello,
I am trying to access a report that I have put in the shared reports folder
I have copied the URL, see below, from the copy shortcut link.
However I am being prompted for a User name and password
    http://server:port/OracleBAM/12345/reportserver/default.jsp?Event=viewReport&ReportDef=6&Buttons=False&ReportParameters=()
    Can you please advise
    a) If I can bypass or default a username and password in the URL
    b) If the above is not achievable then do I need to set up each person, viewing the report, with a username and password and somehow pass these credentials in with the URL.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
I am sure its too late to post a reply for this question but it will be useful for others.
Yes, you can bypass the login prompt by implementing SSO to the BAM with a default username/password.
You can write a simple java code to simulate the process of submitting a login form, thus allowing users to access weblogic protected resources, like BAM report URL, without re-entering the username and password in the login page.
You can use HTTP client API to simulate Form Based HTTP Authentication. It will have to first post HTTP request to authenticate default user 'weblogic' and then from HTTP response get the cookie and pass it to the subsequent HTTP request (with the report URL) to access protected resource.
I had the same requirement and it worked for me :).
    Thanks
