TA25252 ram increase on powermac g3

is there anyway of increasing the ram on a blue and white power mac g3 to (for example) 8 gb because i really like the look of the g3s case and i want to make it a faster mac!

You can upgrade the CPU to a G4 which will will help your performance some. I loved my blue and white, a great system that served my family for years.

  • Can I swap ram from a Powermac G4 400 PCI into a Powermac G4 Quicksilver?

    Hi,
I have a Powermac G4 400mhz PCI, but I'm looking at getting a Powermac G4 Quicksilver 933. I wondered if I can swap some ram from my Powermac G4 PCI into a Quicksilver.
I have gone to the Crucial website and it says the Powermac G4 PCI and the Powermac G4 Quicksilver both take SDRAM, PC133.
But in my Haynes Mac manual it says the Powermac G4 requires SDRAM, PC100.
Who is correct? I would rather swap of course to save money.
    Thanks.

    Hi, thanks for the replys.
I have gone into about this Mac, more info and this is the info I get about the memory:
    DIMM3/J22:
    Size: 256 MB
    Type: Unknown
    Speed: Unknown
    Status: OK
I have recently upgraded to 10.4.8.
I'm sure under 10.4.5 a lot of the info for my ram was not 'unknown'.
Are there any utilities out there that will give me more ram info?
On the Crucial website they have one but it is for PC's only. I'm sure one of the 256 ram sticks are PC133 SDRAM as I bought a ram stick from Crucial about a year ago.
    Thanks again.

  • How To RAM Increase In Server 2008 Standard Above 64Bit

I have a IBM server System x3650 M4 with installed Operating System windows 2008 server standard R2 64bit, we are facing a problem of RAM usage in windows, i have installed total 64GB RAM in server but RAM showing is 32GB usable in windows properties,
How i am increase RAM by any command or any Patch of windows server 2008 standard R2 64bit, pls help me as soon as possible.

32GB is the maximum RAM that can be used by Standard. In order to use more you need to use a different edition. Enterprise and Datacenter have a maximum of 2TB RAM. See this description:

  • Will more ram increase my performance?

I'm running Logic Pro 7.1.1 on a Powerbook G4 1.67 with 1 GB of ram installed running a fair amount of sample libraries and effects. When I check the Activity Monitor under system memory I get the following:
    Wired: 108 MB
    Active: 600 MB
    Inactive: 300 MB
    Free: 13 MB
Since I still have a decent amount of inactive memory, does that mean that more ram would not affect my performance? Or will more ram help out with system overloads?

i'm always careful in wholeheartedly saying 'yes' when people ask if more RAM will give more performance.. while of course it will in almost every case help things along, sometimes quite dramatically, I think it's important to be realistic about what it actually does.
it's easy to have the misconception that more RAM = more plug ins on some kinf of linear scale -- I had 2GB, so now with 4GB I should get something like double the performance, right? just as long as you're clear why this isn't the case, then that's the main thing.
I think since the days of CPU cards like protools TDM, the confusion is out there that adding RAM is like adding more DSP. so you just have to be careful that you understand what it's doing any why it can free your system up to do a little more. you can indeed see decent increases if your machine was struggling along before, given what you were trying to get it to do. or, it may just be a subtle thing.
IMO the best way to think of it is this. your machine has the capacity to perform up to a certain level. when you start getting it to do a lot of things, you will start creating a hindrance to it performing as fast as it can as soon as there are moments when it doesn't have enough RAM to do it. this amount will be different for everyone, dependant on your own use. so, the best thing you can do is remove the bottlenecks, and you'll best let your machine go as fast as it will go.

  • Faster DDR2 RAM in DC PowerMacs

I think I've seen this question posed here before but I've been wondering if anyone has actually tried DDR2 667 or DDR2 800 in a DC PowerMac G5 or if the memory clocking down was an assumption made on Apple's specs.
I know Apple says DDR2 533, Crucial has DDR2 667 listed as compatible with the systems though and it seems ridiculous to pay more for RAM that's going to clock down anyway. Not that Crucial is always 100% right either ...
But has anyone actually put a stick of faster DDR2 in one of these things and checked ASP to see if it reports as 533Mhz or at it's native speed? If not I may give it a whirl ...
    Thanks!
    Leander

    DDR2 667 - probably not much of a gain there, you're right.
But if the controller would support say DDR2 800 or DDR2 900 I would say it'd probably make a difference, and those aren't that much more expensive (from what I've found) from the 677Mhz variety.
To be honest I was eyeballing this:

Patriot is a good performance RAM maker from my experience, but I was wondering if anyone has tried faster DDR2 before I ordered a set.

  • RAM increase in 1.67 G4

I want to get mom's old 15" 1.67ghz powerbook ready to stream video with SnowLeopard/iTunes10/the new apple tv.
What should i do/use to install the max amount of ram?
    The two slots are now:
    sodimm0/J20standard 512-pc2-4200S-444
    sodimm1/J23reversed empty

No Powerbook can run Snow Leopard at all, and none can be expected to stream video very well.
To maximize RAM, remove the existing 512MB module and install two 1GB modules.

  • 4g- 8gb Ram increased performance!! (mini server i7)

Ok you guys are all rolling your eyes but hear me out. I have the miniserever quad and i run Final CutX, Motion, Logic (with EastWest, StudioDevil, Antares plugins) and this thing screams with 4gb. But...motion really chops that memory up fast, as does FCX, and Superior Drummer. I had to close all other apps and it still those guys ate 4gb. So I upgraded to the maximum 8gb.
Here's the thing...everything got faster even when ram was not maxed out!
Final Cut and Motion open in half the time now. Everything is faster and more responsive. Logic loads programs in a snap (minus the 64bit au bug). Now, I've never noticed a difference like this. Never. And I've always upgraded parts and pieces and op systems when available. Does anybody know anything about this? Why would changing ram speed up processes that do not max out ram? Maybe Crucial ram is superior to the Samsung ram that ships in the unit. From now on, I'm maxing out all new computers immediately! Maybe it's a Grand Central Dispatch thing. Anyway, I could not be happier with a 55$ upgrade. It feels like a new computer. Which is great, cause it was only a week old when it was "old".

Thank you.  Appreciate that.  I actually don't use it as a server at all, so I plan to use the server drive as backup to the publications.   I have considered buying the MacProp but when I visited the Southampton UK store two weeks ago, I noticed that the power lead going into the back of the Mac Pro had actually split all the way around leaving the core wires bare albeit for their protective sleeve.  So if that's the quality of the build I thought this is a lot of money for what is a marketing design.  Frankly that design doesn't work because for professional applications we users need something practical - not pretty.
However, the Mac Mini design for us is OK although I don't see the need to design computers as small as they can be. If something goes wrong you need to fix it not have to take a University degree in mechanics and electronics.  Yes the previous G5 style computers were built like tanks, but something in between would suit us professionals.  It doesn't need to fit in a ladies handbag but something of a cube 7 or 8 inches all around would be very practical.  I hope Sir Jonathan reads this!
    Thank you for your help.

  • IMac won't boot windows 7 after ram increase to 12gb

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has has a problem trying to load up windows 7 in boot camp after installing 2 4gb sticks of ram in their iMac. I have a iMac intel core 2duo and the ram is working fine in OSX. When I try to boot up in windows it just sits on the black screen with the flashing icon. I took the extra ram out and it booted up just fine. The version of windows 7 is the ultimate edition 64bit.
    Any help would be great
    Thanks
    Mike

Fixed the problem with this setup
Of course this means i just lost 4GB.
Let me tell the full story.
In the beginning, long ago, once upon a time. My iMac had 2x2GB ram sticks which were in the two DIMM1 Banks. I then told myself "I WANT MORE RAM BECAUSE LOLZ". So i bought 2x4GB ram sticks. The two empty slots were Bank 0/DIMM0 and Bank 1/DIMM 0. and I added them in there. having done that, I booted OS X up, worked great, had 12GB, everything was shiny and beautiful. Soon after I wanted to try it out on windows. I restarted my computer and BAM the blinking cursor just sits there, being stubborn and all. I then told myself "holy balls, this new ram i got is bonkers" (them words, I blame the language filter). Then after giving it a little thought, i just asked myself if it was because I had ram from two different manufacturers. I removed my old ram, which has nice Samsung stickers on them, and booted it up on windows. Still had the same problem, I then decided that maybe this is all really mentally challenged so to win I had to think like a retard. I took my new ram and inserted it in the same slots where my old ram sticks were (DIMM1 Banks), booted windows up and IT WORKED.
I still hold all of my WHYs on this subject but I will keep messing around to see if I find a better solution than just leaving both DIMM0 banks empty

  • Computer freezes after RAM increase

I have a Compaq desktop with this motherboard MCP61PM-HM rev 2.2 running windows 7.
Made a memory increase from 2GB to 8GB with 4 compatible memmory sticks. Computer launches windows but then freezes. I can see it recognises the 4 memmory sticks and it keeps working in safe mode but not in normal mode.
Tried the different sticks, they all seem ok and work well until 3 (6Gb); when I add the 4th one (8Gb) it crashes again.
    What should I do? thanks

    Yes!! you are correct
This unit should support upto 8GB Memory Module and you can confirm the same by looking into the below shown link.

  • RAM increase prevents boot up on HPpavilion ze4420us

Hello, I installed 2x512k RAM boards from on-line store to get max 1 gig; trusted their technical match.  Refuses to bootup; only cycles keyboard lights on/off (screen stays black).  Individually all boards work in original slot, but when 2nd slot occupied computer won't run windows.
Company sent replacement boards (Samsung mfr) which they pretested - stil NG.  Again, boards will work as a single 512k .  HP spec max at 1gig split across two 512K boards.  At HP site I updated BIOS.  No improvement.

  • PowerMac G4 having problems with new RAM modules!

    dear all,
I’ve recently got 2 512 MB Ram module from a British eBay dealer, to be used on 2 different but very similar PowerMac G4 AGP Graphichs 400 MHz machines.
I installed the first module in my father’s Mac, and it works fine, no problems of any sort. Then, a few days later, I installed the other module in my PowerMac, and immediately it started behaving very erratically: some programs didn’t open at all and others crashed with no warning, I tried to run Rember but it soon get stuck. I assumed the Ram module was faulty, emailed the dealer (who’s been very helpful) and then sent it back to get a replacement. The new module arrived yesterday, I installed it... and it was even worse: as some programs didn’t open as soon as the new module was installed, I rebooted the PowerMac but it hasn’t been able even to load the OS anymore, it just stopped at the blue screen forever, once came out a black screen and a Darwin login, but nothing else. As soon as I removed the Ram module the PowerMac started to work perfectly again.I'd assume again there's something wrong in the Ram module, but isn't it too much unlucky to get 2 faulty modules one after the other, or maybe the problem could somewhere else, in my PowerMac?!?
Unfortunately I can't test the new module in my father's machine, as we live 700 kms apart.
    My hardware details are:
    Power Mac G4
    Model: PowerMac3,3
    CPU: PowerPC G4 (2.9)
    1 CPU
    CPU Speed: 400 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 896 MB
    Bus speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.2.8f1
    thanks!

ok, I've now tried every possible combination... but with no success
First, taking out one of the "old" 128 MB I realized it was one of the High density DIMMs (chips on one side only) Japamac was mentioning, in total 2 of the 128 modules were like this. However, taking out one or both of them, or even having only the "new" 512 MB module in, hasn't changed much, sometimes the OS booted, sometimes not but there were always some programs not opening/crashing and Rember got stuck with an error message. With just the "new" module the booting stopped at the blue screen (only blue, no apple splash screen in the centre).
With the new module plus one of the old 128 MB modules (the one with chips on both sides) Rember got stuck very soon, and the error message was:

I guess all this confirm the "new" module is faulty, I'll soon email the dealer

  • Old G4 PowerMac acting strange - does it have PC RAM?

PowerMacs are easy to open up, so taking out the RAM is easy. But how do I check that the memory inside the PowerMac is MacRAM and not PCRAM (or something else)?
Is the fact that the Mac starts up proof enough that the RAM inside is MacRAM?
Of course good MacRAM could get faulty, how do I check that?

Fitting RAM to a PowerMac looks really easy with that nice box and all, but it proved rather time consuming.
Any 8-year old child can fit RAM to a PC once he has seen it done, but with the PowerMac fitting RAM is more like a mystic experience (unless you buy Apple memory and can complain).
I tried Rember but it was a total waste of time, it doesn't test all memory and it doesn't even tell where the problem is if it finds one. Testing memory for faults on a Mac isn't possible. But PC's are everywhere and it's easy to test memory on a PC with a LiveCD.
So I took out the memory from the 2 Powermacs and some PCs and started testing, all RAM seemed good, and I put stickers on them all, if they hadn't, with size and speed (PC66, PC100 and PC133).
Then I started fitting combinations into the PowerMacs, by luck I had a brand new Tiger installation on a LaCie firewire disk on the PowerMac from which I tried to boot from and another disk inside. One RAM combination corrupted the firewire disk, and some combinations wouldn't boot the firewire disk at all, I also noticed that the startup sound was very different depending on what RAM combination was fitted, and some combinations wouldn't allow shutting down the PowerMac.
I ended up with 3 high profile and HP branded 256Mb RAM sticks on the 466MHz DigitalAudio, but that combination was totally rejected by the 800MHz Quicksilver. For the Quicksilver I ended up with 2 RAM sticks made for iMac (not by Apple) and one lookalike (128 and 256 Mb for the ones made for Apple, and 512Mb for the last one). I had tried those in the DigitalAudio but it hadn't appreciated at all. They've both been running for some time without any problems.
Here's the howto, try different RAM combinations and for each follow these steps, if the impression is negative don't go further but try another combination:
    - harmonious startup sound, it should come quickly, be reasonably loud and have a good harmony
    - nice boot, it should be quick and nice
    - nice shutdown, also quick and nice
    - if you've got an old LaCie firewire disk, try booting from it, it should be found at startup
    - boot off the Apple Hardware Test disc and test the computer at least 10 times (why Apple hasn't found a way to loop this test is difficult to understand)
You've probably understood why it's time consuming, but when you're finished you can happily relax that now you're a PowerMac RAM Guru, because that's what it takes to be able to fit memory into a PowerMac.
Well I ended up with some leftovers that I put into the first generation Powermac G3, it starts up nicely but I can't get anything on the monitor, just once a grey screen, maybe it's the memory, maybe not, well I'm not yet a PowerMac G3 RAM Guru! I'll startup a new discussion for that one.

  • Increase RAM in dv6-7011tx from 6GB to 16GB

    Hi,
I just bought HP Pavilion Dv6-7011Tx Notebook PC 2 months back.
It came with 6GB of RAM. Now I need 16 GB which I believe, the notebook supports.
Since its under warranty which is still under process, I need to know how & from where can I get the RAM increased.
Also while buying the product there was an option to upgrade the Harddrive to a bit bigger capacity, so from where can I get all this info for upgrading the hardware.
    Thanks.

Here is a link to the service manual for your notebook.  There are a few sections which will be helpful for you.
Under "Specifications" there will be a section dedicated to the hard drive.  This section will provide you the information you need to select a compatiable hard drive.  The section named "removal and replacement procedures" will show you how to disassemble the notebook to upgrade the RAM and hard drive.
As far as finding parts you should be able to use any hard drive as long as it meets those specifications.  With memory that is a little different.  I want to make sure I suggest the exact type of memory that your notebook will need.  Could you post the full model number of your notebook for me please?  I hope I've been helpful!

  • I have 1Gb ram  and the inactive ram keeps on increasing.

Hi , I ugraded my ram to 1Gb, however inactive ram increases even after closing applications. Seems that a restart will free more memory. Does the Mac OS automatically free inactive memory to free memory when applications are closed. Some time the inactive memory increases until free memory is reduced and Mac OS slows down. Is this normal?

Have a look at this page, it might answer a few questions.
