TA38606 iPhone 5 contacts default to Message, not Phone call

When I try to make a call from my contacts list, it defaults to Message instead of phone. Any idea what is causing this and how to resolve? I'm on iPhone 5, with up-to-date OS. (Last updated 12 hours ago.)

For the record, I'll answer my own question. The particular number had been accidentally entered into an email field in Contacts. Duh!

Go to Settings/General/Reset and choose Reset All Content and Settings. This will erase everything on the iPhone and allow you to set it up again as new with the proper Apple ID.

Did you change your region settings recently? (if so, set it back to the region you had before)
Have you checked to see if your contacts are syncing properly in iCloud? (do the contacts match what you have online?)

Get SIM from the carrier who sold the iPhone.
Or Get it unlocked from them if they offer unlocking service.
If it is from SoftBank, they don't.

i would not want to bet on nokia ever releasing a patch or update in the software to allow this function on this particular phone.
if you look at nokia phones over the years, they have added functionality like this across a wide range all at once, take for example timed profiles on symbian phones. these have only just been phased in.
i do not think it is a development cop out, more along the lines that nokia is a huge company and as such would have a huge effor in market research. if they didnt pick this out through their market researc, why spend the money adding it?
the comment on annoyance is entirely personal to me, as it is important to you - you may want to consider moving to a symbian (series 60) based handset as these give you a lot of expansion for this sort of need.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Unless you have the contacts backed up somewhere, you won't be able to restore them.
You and your son should have your own iCloud accounts then you can keep your own contacts and calendars etc and avoid deleting each others.

You should be syncing your contacts with your computer regularly.
If you have failed to do this then they are likely gone.

Yes it always worked until we had an issue with phone the last two days and ATT put in new SIM card and had us back it up to Icloud last night to send away to Apple because they claimed it was beyond repair.
