TA48312 Upgrade to os x 10.6

I want to upgrade to lion

If you have a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, phone the Apple Store and order a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD and a download code for Lion. If you're using a Core Solo or Core Duo Mac, it can only go to 10.6.8. A PowerPC Mac can't be upgraded past 10.5.8.

I need info on how to upgrade my old OS X Version 10.4.11.

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a G3, no further upgrades are available.
If it's a G4 or G5, buy a retail Mac OS X 10.5 DVD from a source such as Amazon or eBay.
If it's an Intel Mac, buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store.

  • TA48312 I have Mac OS X 10.5.8, how do I upgrade to 10.6, 10.7, or 10.8?

I have Mac OS X 10.5.8, how do I upgrade to 10.6, 10.7, or 10.8? Do I need to just go to the Geek Squad or is it something I can do?

Phone the online Apple Store and order a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD. If you want to go to 10.7 or 10.8 and have a Mac that supports it, buy it from the Mac App Store; if your computer supports 10.7 but not 10.8, order a download code from the Apple Store.

You need a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, an external optical drive such as Apple's SuperDrive, and the 10.6.8 combo updater. You don't need to buy Mac OS X 10.7 or 10.8.

If you have an Intel Mac, purchase Mac OS X 10.6 from the online Apple Store. If you have a G4 or G5 Mac, purchase Mac OS X 10.5 from a site such as Amazon. If you have a G3 Mac, you don't.
Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6 need to be purchased on a retail DVD. No downloads are available to the general public.

  • TA48312 What's the latest OS I can upgrade my Mac G5 with Operating system 10.5.8 to?

I just got this used G5 from a friend so I can start introducing myself to the Apple world. I had enough Microsoft PC issues and I think is time for me to start using Apple from now on. I just want to know what's the latest OS I can upgrade this computer without investing too much money or any at all. My next purchase will be a Mac Pro Quad-core. I will like to use this G5 as the means to learn most of the good things Apple has to offer. Any assistance or advice will be appreciated. I will like to know how much I can do to update and upgrade this old system.
    Thanks.
    Carlos

It's already running the newest OS it can.

  • TA48312 How do I get OS upgrade to 10.6

How do I upgrade from OS 10.5.8 to 10.6?

Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
Am I eligible for the free upgrade?
See Apple - Free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade Program.
