Tab character in repot opening as a CSV in Excel

In our application we are opening the report in (CSV format) browser and saving as a txt file.When we open the the report in an Excel sheet as coma as the delimiter, end of each line appearing a control character for Tab which is not accepted by the client.
The work around of selecting coma and tab as the delimiters while opening in Excel will eliminate the problem but not accepted by the client.
We are using Reports6i and J2EE.
Pls provide a solution to avoid this control character in Excel.

Reports does not automatically insert any TAB control character at the end of each line in the generated delimited format text file. Only the specified delimiter character will be used to seperate indivdiual data values. You should see the same delimiter character at the end of each row in the text file.
Please try to first generate your report to a delimited format text file directly, using the either the Reports Runtime (rwrun60) or Client (rwcli60), using a comma delimiter. Verify whether you are able to import this file correctly into Excel, without seeing any control characters. If so, the output generated by Reports is accurate, and there could be a problem in the file saved by the browser.

I have the data in the below format and I am unable to get this data into excel for the reason that we have even fields with multiple values which have commas in them (like a server might have multiple NICs). I just wanted to know if there is any easier

Why don't you try any another software for opening CSV files then Notepad ? According to my experience, you can use these softwares to open an CSV files and they are:-
Microsoft Excel
Open Office Calc
Google Docs
Also there is an additional tool available known as CSV viewer. You may try this, download it from here http://www.csvviewer.com/
I've never used Notepad for opening CSV files, because sometimes it contains some symbols which are not not at all compatibile with Notepad.

Having trouble with character encoding when opening a .csv file either on excel or in numbers!

Hi.
I oftenly use internet banking services which produce .csv reports for the transactions i make. After downloading these reports i try to open them in numbers (and excel) but the encoding for Greek is messed up. Opening the same file with excel on a windows computer everything works fine. Is there something i can do to fix this?Same thing happens to both my Macbook Pro and my iMac.

I suspect that the .csv reports are not in Unicode which is required on Mac's. You would probably have to open the files with something like TextEdit and resave as Unicode to get them to display properly.

How do I insert the tab character in a table cell in Pages 5.2?

I'm typing text in a table cell. I need to insert a tab in the text. I've tried all of the modifier keys with the tab. I read somewhere it would be CTRL>TAB, like Word, but that navigates to the Inspector.

You will need to add a Unicode keyboard. System Preferences > Keyboard > Input Sources. Click the + button in the lower left. Scroll all the way to the end and select Others > Unicode Hex Input. Select and Add this. Check the box that says Show input menu in menu bar. Exit System Preferences.
From the Finder menu, select your recent Unicode Hex Input source (it is a black box with white U+ in it). Now, position your cursor in your table cell between the characters where you want to insert a tab character. Press and hold your option key, then type 0009 (zeroes). This is the Unicode sequence for the tab control character. Space will open in your text. Tabs in table cells survive PDF export. The tab mark will not appear with Show invisibles enabled.
Switch back to your normal country input source in that Finder input source menu.

I need to put a tab character into an output file in abap.
I want to create an output file that can be opened in excel, but i dont want to call excel from abap, just create the file and open later.
the tab is what automatically delimits the columns in excel

When I open a new tab is doesn't open to my set homepage as it would if opening firefox from start. It instead opens to a "default" page with pogo powered by yahoo, I want to change to google. How do I do this?

Opening firefox from begining, I have been able to set it to always open to google as it was in my old firefox default settings. If I remember correctly when you opened a tab, it would automatically open to the homepage. I'm not expierencing this with the new version. It is automatically going to the default page rather than the set homepage. (I just have learned to prefer the google search over the yahoo search over the years and am resistant to changing over, sorry)

A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank). 
If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.

I'm on Firefox 3.6.21, and I got this problem today after a Greasemonkey update (To version 0.9.10, apparently).
Disabling Greasemonkey solved the problem, and re-enabling it reproduced the problem (middle-clicking links to open in new tab did not work, merely highlighted the link).
I should also note that while Greasemonkey was enabled and the bug was affecting me, Ctrl+Click to open links in new tabs was also broken.

EDIT: It appears this is a known incompatibility/conflict bug between current versions of Greasemonkey and Tab Mix Plus. Read more here:

Delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.

When I click on a link, it opens in a new tab, FF3.6, would open a link in the same tab, unless Iwanted it in a new tab.

Any link that isn't a button, opens in a new tab.

I don't know of this behavior being changed just by going to Firefox 4.0, basically this is difficult to do if you want that behavior.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

Firefox sent an email to me to confirm that I had asked the above question. The email had a link to click. When I clicked it from Firefox, nothing happened. Then I opened IE, signed into Comcast, opened the email, clicked the link, and it brought me here.

I had the same problem, but with Firefox 4.0. My first thought was to update Firefox (after of course restarting FF), but that didn't help it and I had the same problem.
Among others, I had an extension installed and enabled called Tile Tabs 4.10 that I thought could feasibly creating this problem. So I went into my add-ons manager and disabled it, restarted Firefox and the tabs worked properly again. Unfortunately, the Tile Tabs extension is my favorite Firefox add-on and I use it almost every day for managing my web work tasks. I went to the add-on page for Tile Tabs and saw that there was a notice that version 4.10 didn't work properly on Mac OS, and to install version 4.9 of the extension. I saw they had a new, not-yet-reviewed version 4.11 that addressed the Mac OS problem, installed it, and everything seems to be working properly.
I have no idea why all of a sudden I had this problem, as I hadn't updated Firefox or the Tile Tabs extension recently. Also, obviously this might not address your problem, especially if you don't have that add-on installed and enabled. But our problem started at the same time for both of us it appears based on your post time, so its probably not coincidence.
But its worth a look, and you might want to check out other extensions if you don't have Tile Tabs that could be causing the problem.
