Tab Glitch

So even after updating to the latest version of Safari, I still have this glitch problem when opening a new tab in the browser. The problem happens more often then not and only when I go to open a new tab. Safari hangs for a few seconds and before the new tab opens, it shows a very strange pixelated mirror image of my desktop and dock and then clears out and the tab looks normal again. I have read about this problem before and read the this was supposed to be fixed in the latest Safari update, but obviously not, at least in my situation.
Anyone else still experiencing this glitch and if so have you come across a solution? It's not a huge problem but very annoying and it only happens in Safari.

Maintenance might help...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.

Since you are running Snow Leopard, make sure Safari is running in 32-bit mode, not 64. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.
If nothing above helps, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

Tabs glitching out, videos going silent

Sometimes when I close a tab, the next tab it changes to will glitch out and have a few artifacts of the website I was just on. For instance, I can have a Google.com tab and a Youtube video in another. if I close the youtube video and go to the google tab, some of the objects from the youtube tab will appear on the google tab.
As for the videos going silent, this is mainly youtube. When I'm watching a video and want to skip forward, the video will act as if it's pause. The pause button will change to have the play symbol instead, but won't change back to pause when I click it. The video will continue to play and the audio will be completely mute. The only way to fix that has been, so far, to close and reopen the tab. So far, it mostly occurs when I go fullscreen.
I'll try and get a picture of the first problem, but the second problem is so random, I'm afraid I won't be able to get anything to show.

Did the glitches just start recently? Firefox 33 introduced a new feature called "Off Main Thread Compositing" (OMTC). There is a preference to disable this feature if you want to try that. You might need to exit and start Firefox up again after making the change.
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''layer''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the '''layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled''' preference to switch it from true to false.
Any difference?
Regarding the YouTube videos, are these playing in the Flash player plugin or in Firefox's built-in HTML5 player? Usually you can distinguish them by the right-click menu for the player: Adobe's plugin has a distinctive short context menu instead of Firefox's standard right-click context menu.

Safari Tabs Glitch

Hi,
I've just reinstalled SL, installed ALL updates, but there's an annoying glitch in Safari that appears almost constantly.

Using the Safari for Mac forum as an example go here: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=876 All you have to do is click: Post new topic.
As for your current Safari issue... you need to reinstall the Safari application from your Snow Leopard disk.
Insert the Snow Leopard install disk. Open the Optional Installs folder, then open Optional Installs.mpkg
An Installer will start... click Continue. When you get to the Installation Type in the window on the right you will see: Applications. Click the Disclosure triangle so it faces down. Select Safari then click Continue. That should get Safari up and running again for you.
As with any software installation, repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
Perform Safari maintennace about once a month to avoid problems.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.

Command-Tab Glitch

As I 'Command-Tab' through the running applications, the Menu bar display occasionally remains for the applications.
However, clicking on the Menu bar drops down menus are appropriate for running application, nt the menu bar displayed.
This symtom appears regularly with Graphic Converter 8.5 and occasionally, apparently at random, with other applications. Restarting is the only way I've found for returning things to normal.
Running a Mid 2007 24" iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 6GB ram, OS X 10.8.3 (12C60)

Where did the quality of Firefox go ?

I have been using firefox since it came out. Right after Netscape in fact. It had just about always been a light weight browser. Fast and it worked. Very few glitches. But over the past few versions, the quality has gone down hill. Why ? Whom ever is in charge of it, has lost focus. Please solve the glitches. There are graphical glitches as well as download glitches. Actually there are a lot of glitches that are even memory related. And I have read post after post, with not one of these problems getting fixed. I have even posted questions, and I get the same exact response every time "please reset in safe mode" ... "shut your anti-virus off" ... and one time I even got the response "get chrome, its better". Seriously ? has firefox gotten this bad that we all have to resort to chrome ? I can't stand chrome. But if one were to sit back and look at firefox, its JUST LIKE CHROME ! I don't not like the looks of or the direction of Firefox because its like the developers prefer chrome. ???? #$%#$%?#$?%#?$%
I know about forcing us firefox users to have to CHANGE our settings to go back to the old style, but with each new update, it resets and you just get tired of doing that. WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TOO ! I loved firefox the way it WAS. But now with all this bloated crap that is getting installed into Firefox lately, its no longer viable as a good choice between the major browsers. It's pathetic that i am being forced to have to go to chrome because it can handle more then 2 tabs open without falling apart. I'm very disappointed in Mozollia team. It's like they don't care anymore. The Quality is gone.
I know I am ranting here, but dang it, I have been waiting for even half these bugs to get fixed for the past 8 version updates. All I am seeing is more "features" and not enough fixes. The graphical tab glitches, the lock ups, all because of something gone wrong with these past updates. I have even seen people complain about it in the forums here. Like I said, even I posted a problem about the failed downloads. And people tried the usual responses. but apparently no one has a clue whats really going on with firefox because its become too bloated. I said it once and I'll repeat it.. The Quality in Firefox is gone.
If I get banned or this post gets censored, it just goes to show whats been happening to firefox lately.

I am using latest Graphics drivers from NVidia. I have the GTX 680 with 2 Gigs ram. My friend has the AMD R9 ( I don't recall which one ) and he has the same problem. This problem has existed for the past several updates. Also, I am not using anything beta, I am using the releases that are from firefox only. If they send me an update I update because usually updates are about security. Which I am for that and its something I respect about firefox in general.
An example of the graphical glitch is when you open a tab, the graphics won't update to let you see the new tab. I have my settings set that if I open a new tab it will automatically switch to the other newly opened tab. I see the new tab open, and I can see that it is the newly current shown tab. But the "info" inside that tab does not update. Sometimes the tab itself messes up and it won't completely draw itself. This is the graphical glitches I see. This happens even if I have no plugins loaded. I have spent the last several versions trying to solve this. Updating drivers.. etc etc. It all boils down to firefox.

I have an desktop toolbar that tells me what memory usage is. Firefox has a tendency to raise the memory to the max 20 gigs I have on my computer. ( Yes I have 20 gigs System ram on this Quad Xeon computer system ) Keep in mind, it does this randomly, and at random websites. This is not a constant occurrence and difficult to reproduce. However, after a lot of observation, I am starting to believe it has to do with websites that have flash installed and I do not have flash installed. I do not like flash. I use HTML5 if the website offers it. Which most of the time it does. I watch a lot of youtube videos. Come to think of it, it is possible that videos are the issue here and the HTML5 side of it is the problem. I love HTML5, don't get me wrong, but in Firefox it may not be completely working yet.
This is my thinking at least, I could be completely off here on this.

Yea, for the past several updates, it keeps resetting everything when I run an update. So I am forced to "fix" it back and I had given up after this latest update. I am just using the default because I see no point anymore. Too old and tired to fight this. Whatever happened to simplicity like back in the 70s and 80s when stuff just ran and it worked. Netscape was my fave in the late 90s and then when firefox came out I fell in love again. Now.. I'm loosing my love... It's why I posted this message, I am frustrated and I am ranting in the hopes that someone gets the hint to please please please, don't loose the quality that firefox was known for.

Whenever I have a pdf document open, and then switch to another tab to view another webpage, the scrolling function on the touchpad will not work. This seems to be a glitch with Mozilla, according to Dell. How do I fix this?

When I open a pdf document (like an E-version of a newspaper) in Mozilla and then switch to another tab to view another webpage, I am unable to use the scrolling function on the touchpad. I have to use the up and down arrows to get other pages to scroll. When I close that pdf document, everything works fine. I talked with customer support with Dell, and he said it was probably a glitch with Mozilla. So I tried to do the same thing on IE, and there was no problem scrolling with the touchpad while a pdf document was open on another tab. I would like to get a fix for this so I don't have to keep closing open pdf documents in order to scroll with the touchpad while on other tabs. Thank you

New Glitch with mail app setup in "Other" tab after update 5.0.1

Just for the record everyone. After the update to 5.0.1 If you have enabled iCloud on setup after you did a restore and erase-- if you had update problems as I did with my wife's iPhone-- the setup for mail is different. When you try to resetup your old email account in the mail app under the "other" tab it defaults to IMAP only --you do NOT get a choice to choose IMAP or POP after the first setup screen. Why? Lord only knows. Well, I called apple tech support and they were of no help at all and essentially shrugged their collective shoulders. You will all be happy to know that I have solved this problem on my own and I think it bears repeating to all of you, as I am sure others have come upon this problem as well. The solution appears to be to turn off iCloud and delete the iCloud account (keep the data on your phone of course) in settings and then turn off push notifications. Then restart your phone. You may have to restart twice. Then try setting up your mail account under "other". Then when you have filled out the first setup acct screen and go to the next screen. Volia! You should then see the option on the next setup screen to choose IMAP or POP. You can then input the settings as per your POP account as specified by your carrier. One note however, the verify process may take up to a minute or more--very slow for some reason when setting up as a POP acct. Anyway, I thought this was weird because under 5.0-- I would get the option after first email setup screen to choose HTTP, IMAP or POP?? My theory is that somehow IMAP gets defaulted as the only choice because iCloud operates that way if enabled etc. You can then turn iCloud back on as well as resetup acct-- as well as push notifications and your POP email acct should still continue to work as configured. I think this is a definite glitch or bug with the update to 5.0.1? Graphics glitch is messing up the tabs

The tab graphics display area has a glitch. The tabs are sometimes covered by garbled characters in and background colors that make the tabs difficult to see and interact with. In the screen shot attached, see the far right tab for the problem. This problem is sometimes much worse, covering all but the first tab.. FF 36.0.4, Windows 7, updated to current.

Unfortunately, you probably need to disable McAfee Site Advisor on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then you can find it on the right side.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the page and click one of the links as the last step.

Urxvt tabs switching glitch

Once in a while when switching urxvt tabs (Shift + cursor arrow) they glitch and I can switch only between some tabs e.g. 4, 5 and 6. When I'm on tab 6 and want to go right, I get to tab 4 instead of tab 7.
Visualization. I'm going right all the time 1->2->3 etc. (but going left doesn't help). 'X' marks the tab I'm currently on:

It's an intermittent issue and not a huge deal. 'Ctrl + cursor arrow' allows me to break out of this vicious circle of tabs.

Firefox 4 was set on "Open new windows in a new tab instead." I unclicked that to test opening in a new window. Decided to go back to the tab option, clicked on it but it does not engage and Firefox 4 continues to open in a new window. Is this a glitch?

I did try rebooting, no go. If anyone knows a way to get that option working, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had the same problem, but was able to fix it somewhat.
# Open the about:config page.
# Set the ''browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction'' setting to 0 (= zero).
On my machine this will open new windows in a new tab. However, it switches to the new tab regardless of the setting ''"When I open a link in new tab, switch to it immediatly"''.

Tabbed Panel Glitch in panles 3 & 4

One problem with the Tabbed panels I am not sure how to
address is the registration jumps a bit in Panel 3 & 4.
It jumps up a few pixels in IE 6 nut is OK in Mozilla. Any
suggestions or a work around would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know what you mean V1 but I solved the problem.
It was sloppy coding on my part. I had tags on
image paths in the offending panels. Once I removed them it solved
the problem.

Tabs fail and address bar is glitched

Hi, I just downloaded safari 3 now, and when I try to open new tabs, it shows a loading symbol on the side (where the tabs is supposed to open up) but then it just disappears. In addition to that there seems to be a problem with the address bar; when a new page is loading the address is partially in bold font. That isn't really a problem but I think it's related to the tab issue.

Hi. If your OS is up to date via Software Update you shouldn't have had to download Safari 3. It is included in 10.4.11.
I suggest you go to http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateppc.html
and download/install the Combo update.
But first you need to check that there is no errors on your start-up disk that caused your Safari problems. Insert your Tiger install disk in the drive and restart. As soon as you hear the start-up chime press and hold the 'C' key. When the installer has finished loading select your Language then Next/Continue. On the next page look at the top left of the menu bar and select Utilities/Disk Utility. Choose your startup volume (the second one down) from the left hand pane and select Repair Disk. If D.U. reports that the volume appears to be OK quit DU, quit Installer and restart normally and log in. Eject the Disk.
If D.U. reports that repairs were made re-run repair until you get the message that the volume appears to be OK. Then quit D.U., quit installer and restart normally and log in. Eject the Disk.
Then go to /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility, select your start-up volume (the second one down) from the left hand pane and choose Repair Permissions. Once that has finished quit D.U.
Then back up at least your important files, or preferably create a clone of your system on an external drive if you have one. Then go to the above link, download it and install. It is a large file, will take a while to download, and takes a long time to install with a long double restart. Do Not interrupt the process once it has begun.
Good luck and post back with how things go or if you have any queries that you want to clear up before you embark upon the above.

iIn iTunes - click on the Tones tab. Now go to the menu - select "File" - "add file to library" - browse to your file - select it and thats it.

Acer Iconia Tab - touch screen glitch?!

A couple years ago, my husband bought me a tablet for valentines. It worked great for a couple of months, then the touch screen started glitching. I could press an icon on one side of the screen and the tablet registers it on the complete opposite side. I've dug it out again in hopes of fixing it, but so far, nothing has changed. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

I believe there was a firmware update that fixes these issues as this was an issue on the w500's I know. If you go to Acers website and go to support. You should be able to choose tablets/your model and do a full update to correct this issue.

Tabbed Panels - IE7 glitch

I'm struggling to find a solution for a problem I'm having
where I am not seeing content on my pages where I have tabbed
panels. IE6, IE8 and FF all show it, but IE7 is blank.

Any ideas where to start?

I thought I just sent a follow-up on this, but don't see it
posted. So here it is again:
I don't know all the implications for IE 7 vs. other browsers
of these things, but there's a lot of improper coding on that page
for XHTML. You have tags in upper case that need to be all lower
case -- instead of <TD> it should be <td>, etc. Also
where there are not closing tags, such as in or
<img>, you have to add a slash before the ">" so it's
 and <img src="logo.jpg" />. You'd be a lot
better off using CSS to style your fonts instead of font tags, and
the font tags you have don't have the attributes in quotes as they
should, e.g. not .
Maybe that has nothing whatsoever to do with the issue you're
describing, but if you clean that all up with a bunch of
find-and-replaces, the validator may be of more assistance.
