Tab shortcut on Mac

I am new to the Mac as I just swtiched from a PC. One of the shortcuts I used a lot on the PC/Windows side was the ability to tab to a Yes/No/Cancel dialog box. For instance when I was closing an application and there were changes to the document and a dialog box would show up and I could tab through the available options and hit enter on the selected one (saves time from reaching for the mouse).
Does the Mac OS have this ability?
I am assuming it is OK to post under this heading.

Open system prefs, then go to keyboard. Change the option below to "ALL" - This will set it up like your used to on a PC

  • Ctrl-Tab shortcut for Mac?

In GoLive on Windows, you could easily switch between the windows in GoLive by using Ctrl-Tab (aka "Show Next Window in Workspace" or similar in GL9 on Windows). This doesn't work in the OS X version, so what I am wondering is if there is some way to reproduce this behaviour in OS X.
Recently converted to a Mac Pro with Leopard 10.5.2, so if there is a built-in keyboard shortcut for this, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

Go to System Preferences (in the Apple menu) and choose International. There choose Input Menu. At the bottom of the dialog you find a button called Keyboard Shortcuts. There you will find the most commoon once that are universal for all apps. Cmd+< takes you between open windows in active application (if you have a US keyboard layout).

  • Command - Tab shortcut not working

My command - tab shortcut stops working after a random period of time and I have to restart my MacBook to get it working again. Any idea what could be causing this keyboard shortcut to fail? I tried killing and re-running the Dock but that does not fix it. A refuse to reboot my Mac everytime it happens (this is not Windows...) Any ideas on what might be causing the problem?

Actually I just researched this further and found a solution here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1830738&tstart=0
+Open the activity monitor and look for something like the "ScreenSaverEngine" - the process should be marked as "not responding" (written in red)+
+End this process and Command+Tab and other shortcuts will work again!+

  • How to set mac shortcuts (for mac and windows OS)

i am having a bit of an issue.
i run windows 7 and mac os on the same computer on different hard drives in this computer. i also have a "mac" keyboard. i am not sure how this may be different from a "windows keyboard" but the point is i need to use this keyboard because it matches the one on my laptop which is a mac.
when i switch to windows on this machine i always end up deleting information because the CMD + X and CMD + V cut and paste shortcuts on Mac OS are not the same in windows. windows requires (currently) CTRL + X and CTRL + V. so when i got to cut and paste in windows CTRL + X (this is my habitual way of working) and then i run a CTRL + V i end up writing /over/ the text i selected with a "x" and i end up pasting /over/ the text i selected to paste over with a "v". this is because instead of running a cut and paste, this set of shortcuts in windows simply enters "x" and "y" respectively since the shortcut is not active.
does anyone know where i set these in windows OS and in mac OS?
also, does anyone know if it is possible to set how many UNDOS i can do in either of these OS's or to know how many i can in fact undo?
    THANKS
    long story background:
    1. while i may move to a windows keyboard on the computer i am using (because the mac keyboards these days end up losing keys and they end up very wobbly) i cannot do this for the laptop machine so this may not make a lot of sense if i end up also running windows on the laptop which is my intention at some point.
    2. CTRL + X is a very long stretch on the mac keyboard so rather than switching mac shortcuts to accommodate windows shortcuts i am thinking to switch windows shortcuts to mac ATM.
    3. this is no small issue! i just went to copy and paste this text so i could save it for myself in order to explain to someone else and i ended up overwriting with a "c". if i had not thought fast and remembered to UNDO by hitting CTRL - X and not CMD - X i might have lost all my work.

long delay - no email of your post here
I also realise that you can use system preferences - Keyboard - modifier keys to make cmd = ctrl or vice versa
I'd surely ask/read elsewhere about altering windows, given the reach issue - but no qualms beyond confusion if switching/using other machines.  You might soon find you switch layouts mentally, quite easily.

  • Why are files not displaying in Files tab of DW Mac CS6?

    Hi,
I am a long time user of DW CS6 on Windows and recently have migrated to DW CS6 on the Mac. In my site, I have dozens of .htm files instead of .html files. When I look in the Files tab of DW Mac, none of the .htm files appear there. In fact, when I re-save an .htm file as an .html file, that does not appear in the Files tab either! They all appear fine in the Mac's Finder and can be opened there, but I like the convenience of the Files tab feature. Why is it not showing individual .htm and .html files?
    Thank you.
    ~ Michael

The last thing I would try is to rebuild the DW Cache file per the instructions here...
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/494811
If that doesn't do it, the only thing I can think of is a corrupt user account on your Mac.
That Reveal in Finder not matching the contents of a browsed to folder is something I've never seen before. From what I understand of the function, it's not a DW generated folder, but a function of your OS, just like browsing to it manually. If there is no duplicate, they should be identical. I'm wondering what happens if you open the Reveal In Finder version side by side with a browsed to version, then try dragging test files back and forth.

  • HT5525 I can't find the updates tab in the mac app store (just updated iTunes)?

I'm trying to purchase a book of photos through iPhoto - it tells me to update iPhoto before I can order the book. My macbook pro is running OSX Lion so it says I can update iPhoto "in the updates tab of the mac app store"... but when I go to the app store in iTunes, there is no updates tab. I then tried the second update option, via software update under the apple menu, but that just updated a bunch of other firmware, not iPhoto.
Can anyone help point me in the direction of the iPhoto '11 update please?

You don't use iTunes for that.  Launch the App Store application
that's in your Applicaitons folder, login with your Apple ID and you should be able to update iPhoto.

  • No iCloud Tabs from my Mac shown on my mobile devices

I have a MacBook Pro, an iPhone 4 and an iPad Gen. 3. All running the latest OS / iOS.
For some reasons, my iCloud tabs on my mac aren't showing on my iPad and iPhone.
You know that you should have a break down showing those are the tabs from iPad, and then others from the iPhone? I got both of then on my Mac, but iPad only on my iPhone, and iPhone only on my Mac. I couldn't figure out how I can have my tabs from Mac sent to the iCloud.
If anyone can provide a clue, I would really appreciate it.
    Best Regards,
    Nan

I tried something similar by adding a new mail account doing the apple id etc but it worked in that it would look for mail but no mail would come even though mail still goes to my phone I was loath to delete my original account just in case the new one did not work as well. So I guess I am a little stuck now.. I hope you can help me to sort it out.
    Thanks

  • Change tabbing shortcut for controls

Is there a way to change the tabbing shortcut to the Enter key, instead of using the Tab key? And is it possible to set the tabbing order for controls?
    Thanks,
    Chris
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I would advise against it as using the Tab key for navigation has been standardized for a long time.  But you could use the Key Down? filter event in an event stucture to modify a keys behaviour.  Specifically if someone hits the enter key pass 9 to Char and ASCII to VKey.  You could also use this to disable the tab key.

  • I can see open tabs from my PC on my Mac, but I can't see open tabs from my Mac on my PC. Why?

I've set up Sync on my work PC and my home MacBook.
I can see open tabs from my PC while I'm on my Mac, but I can't see open tabs from my Mac while I'm on my PC. Why?

Here is what I am seeing on my Android device - at the top, a few options like History > Top Sites> Bookmarks>Reading List. Then, the search/address bar, then to the right of that, a square with the number "1" inside it, then 3 dots that, when chosen, give you the following options:
    New Tab
    New Private Tab
    Request Desktop Site
    Tools
    Settings
Any thoughts on how I specifically sync my Desktop open tabs to my Android device so I can then see all my desktop open tabs on my phone?
    Thanks!

  • Transferring keyboard shortcuts between Mac and Windows

I need to migrate users from Mac (CS 5.5) to Windows 7 (CS 6). I have tried to transfer a user's custom keyboard shortcut set by copying the .indk file to the appropriate folder on the PC, and although it shows up in the list, when I try to select the set I get an error saying it is in the wrong format or the file could be damaged. Is there a way of transferring keyboard shortcuts between Mac and Windows?

Shortcut sets seem to be human-readable text files, so you could try making a copy and doing some editing, changing cmd to ctrl and opt to alt, and change the platform value in the first line to "win" though I can't make any promise it will work.
There are also some known problems trying to migrate legacy sets into newer versions of ID since CS5, I think.

  • How to enable shortcuts on "MAC" as in windows. (ie : Alt+I+I = for image size in PS )

How to enable shortcuts on "MAC" as in windows. (ie : Alt+I+I = for image size in PS )
Im using a mac system and adobe CS6 package. mainly works with Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
But shortcuts doesn't works like Alt+I+I, Alt+I+S..... like that as on Windows computers.
Is there any way to enable "underline for shortcut letters" in mac for adobe products...?

Here in Photoshop on Windows OS you can see the letter for shortcut shown as underlined
    In Menu bar
    F for File
    E for Edit
    and I for Image
We can press alt+F to list file menu
and alt+E to list Edit menu
Is there any option like this to enable shortcuts for menu bar in "MAC OC"

  • How can i pin the tabs (shortcuts on the left) FOREVER?

how can i pin the tabs (shortcuts on the left) FOREVER?
I PINNED THE TABS AND NOW I HAVE THE SMALL TAB ICONS ON THE LEFT OK COOL BUT I DONT WANNA DO THIS EACH TIME I OPEN FIREFOX. I WANNA PIN THEM FOREVER. AUTOMATICALLY!!!!

App (pinned) tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data [1] in the file sessionstore.js [2] in the Firefox profile folder [3].
Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Browsing History" when Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.

It is also possible to use the "Show my windows and tabs from last time" setting, that is usually a more reliable way to restore session data.

You don't necessarily need netcfg to get networking. But I used it before for my wireless on my laptop, so I just used the same on my desktop too. Also if you want to do things like this its easier rather than have to go digging around with macspoof and what not. your netcfg eth0 file could be something like
    PRE_UP='ip link set eth0 address XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX'
    CONNECTION='ethernet'
DESCRIPTION='A basic dhcp ethernet connection using iproute'
    INTERFACE='eth0'
    IP='dhcp'
If you use a different interface then obviously, you need to change it accordingly

  • Tab shortcut not really a shortuct anymore?

ShiftCommandleft/right arrow to switch tabs shortcut in safari does not work if anything is selected... which means you have to unselect whatever is selected... and defeats the purpose of a shortcut. Can this be fixed?

I think they mean if the cursor is in a typing field. So, for example, as I type this hitting space will type a space rather than moving the view down.
The change tab shortcut doesn't work if you're in a text box/ typing field (no idea what the technical term is). I kind of suspect it never has worked that way, but Safari seems to locate me in text fields more than it used to.
And no, I haven't found a way to fix it. I don't know if it's from the new Safari or from the Glims plug-in or because I just never noticed before, but Safari's been annoying me lately by automatically highlighting text fields in new tabs, so I can't use shortcuts without first mousing over to somewhere else (although I assume there's a shortcut for getting out of text fields that I just haven't bothered to look up yet).
(Added a few minutes later: cool; Glims lets me change tabs with a comma or a period. Now I just have to remember that tomorrow. But I still get stuck with same issue of needing to "mouse out" of text fields.
(And a few minutes after that: Hitting the tab key gets you out of the text box, as I should have remembered. That may help the OP, although I'd still like to know why I'm winding up in text fields more often.)

  • Unable to operate tab shortcut keys for safari

    I am using Safari 4.0.2.
All is working good except the *Tab shortcuts for safari*.
Problem: Tab shortcuts does not work every time. It works very less time.
*What I did to solve the problems?*
    1) Re-Checked the necessary shortcuts in the preferences pane but nothing happened.
    2) Re-installed Safari
    3) Also did reset to Safari.
I did not understand what has happened to it.
    Please help me with it.

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
A corrupt preference file may be causing the Command T problem, or perhaps you created a keyboard shortcut for Command/T.
If you didn't alter the keyboard shortcuts, trash the preference file.
Via the Finder: Your User Account>Library>Preferences folder. Move the com.apple.safari.plist file to the trash, then restart Safari. This resets Safari preferences to default values. Restore any custom settings in either the Preference panel, Edit Menu (spelling), or View Menu. Also, restore any custom icons on the toolbar via the Customize Toolbar option.
Also, the reset adds Apple default bookmarks to your Bookmarks collection (command/option/B keys). Delete any you don't want.
