Tab to Bookmark/Top Sites Feature

A simple feature that is in all other browsers but missing in S4 is dragging your tab to the bookmark bar or top sites bar - instead you have to select the text and drag it down which isn't the most fool proof thing there is - nothing major, but that coupled with the slowness is hurting my opinion of the initial release - beta seemed better.

Have you tried this:
Quit Safari if it's running and open System Preferences>Network>TCP/IP.
In the DNS Server window, make sure IPv6 is turned off, and enter these two DNS servers to replace the ones you currently have:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
click Apply Now and quit System Preferences.
Next, do these things in order:
1. Go to Home/Library/Cookies and delete the Cookies.plist file.
2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
3. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Web Page Previews and delete the contents of that folder.
4. If you don't want to use the Top Sites feature, open Terminal and paste in this command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSnapshotsUpdatePolicy -int 2
5. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
6. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
7. Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete these files (if you have them):
Downloads.plist
History.plist
Form Values
LastSession.plist
WebpageIcons.db
Then repair permissions and restart Safari and see if the problem remains.

Seriously - what could they have possibly been thinking? Mozilla, please tell us this was some kind of mistake. Accessing our bookmarks in FF-mobile is just plain bad as a user experience. How can I make Firefox display Bookmarks tab instead of Top Sites when I touch the address bar?

I am using Firefox on HTC One. When I touch the address bar, I want to be able to see the Bookmarks tab instead of Top Sites. By default, it always goes to Top Sites. Is there a setting that I can change, or change the order of the tabs? Thank you

Unfortunately you cannot remove the top sites homepage but you can pin a site, remove a site by unpinning it and edit a pinned site's url.

I Can't Find The Bookmark Top Sites

Hi. I can't find the pages I saved to bookmarks. I'm using the latest Safari 5.0.5. It saved it to Top Site but when you open Show All Bookmarks which opens in 3D cover flow like page, it's not there. Where can I find it? Thank you in advance.

Both in safari and chrome, whenever i click any link it opens a new tab with advertise. Original tab turn to top sites.

This is a **** of problem i am facing. I am so annoyed that i am considering to get rid of Mac. My previous mac did not have such problem. Well, lets say i have opened airline site, i am trying to search ticket, i have put all destination and dated, once i click search, it opens a new tab and current one become blank with top sites. Its really annoying. Can someone advise what to do?

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

I do not know if this is a plug in or what but is wants us to share pages with facebook, twitter mail, pinterest and others which we do not recognize. How do we get rid of it? Explain simply please as we are not computer whizzes and our senior brains are stymied right now. It seems to be slowing down Safari!

Several things to try...
Click the Bookmarks icon then select Bookmarks Bar. See if shows up under Bookmark on the left.
If not, go to your Safari menu bar top of your screen. Click Safari then click Preferences from the drop diown menu then select the Extensions tab.
If you see it listed there as an extension, click Unintall.

Auto-loading "Top Sites" into a tab

I've successfully auto-loaded my tabs, but is there a way to auto-load "Top Sites" also into a new tab? (I know I can set any newly opened tabs to load "Top Sites"). I am so lazy that I can hardly bring myself to type command-T. Any good way to do this?
In other words, I want the browser to open with tabs for site A, site B, site C, as well as "Top Sites". I can do A, B, and C, but Top Sites doesn't seem to have a conventional URL.

MacFUSE and Top Sites?

Recently my top sites feature has begun disappearing. I've deleted plist files and reinstalled the program. This gets them back for awhile, but at some point the feature stops working again. All I get is the search history box overlayed on whatever page I happen to be on at the time I click the feature. That also is non-functional.
If I quit Safari and re-launch the top sites feature appears and is functional for awhile, but disappears again. I can't seem to reproduce the problem reliably, it simply stops working until l quit and relaunch the program.
I have NO third party add-ons. The only change is that I recently installed Parallels which placed MacFUSE in my startup folder. Could this be what's nuking the top sites feature in Safari?

MacFuse could be the issue. If you can, move MacFuse from System Preferences/Accounts - Login Items or /Library/Startup Items.

If your profile is correct, Safari 4 minimum requirements are 10.5.8. You can install the v10.5.8 Combo Update here.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
(That will reset TopSites for you).
  Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*

And make sure Safari is not running in Rosetta. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle so it faces down. Where you see Open using Rosetta... make sure that is NOT selected.

Top sites

Hi, i used to use firefox religiously, however I have switched over to safari. When using firefox i just used to bookmark my sites and usually ended up with a huge list. When using the top sites feature if i delete sites in the bottom right hand corner sites appear that I may have looked at but have not bookmarked. if i have more sites bookmarked that can be displayed in the grid, where do they go??

Prevent Safari 5.1 from adding to Top Sites

Has anyone figured out a way to prevent Safari 5.1 from adding to Top Sites every time one looks at a webpage? I have used Macs for 20 years and love them, EXCEPT that Apple doesn't give much control to the user.

If, for some reason, you want to completely disable the Top Sites feature, use the following Terminal command copy and paste:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari5IncludeTopSites -bool FALSE
Repeating with TRUE at the end will enable Top Sites again.
I have not tested this, but you can try it, and report back on your success or failure.
Clear cache, clear history, reset and relaunch Safari.
Of course there all alternatives if this command does not work. See this thread:

'Top Sites" no longer updates...

I'm not sure why, but the 'Top Sites' feature no longer updates. I then tried to close all the little windows, but now nothing shows up at all. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I understand that you no longer see updates to the Top Sites feature in Safari. Try clearing all Safari data and then test the Top Site feature. If the issue persists, make sure that this option is selected in Safari preferences. Here are a couple articles that will walk you through this process.

Top sites arrangement or websites not saved

Hello,
One of three users of my Macbook is unable to save any websites in his Top sites feature. The problem was already there with Safari 4.
I would have understood that bug if my two non-admin users were having the same issue, but it's not the case :/
That account is not blocked by a parental control.
Does anybody please have any kind of explanation, or better, any solution ?

First, from the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Empty Cache. Do that in all accounts. Then relaunch Safari.

No Top Sites or Cover Flow

On Safari I don't have the option for top sites or cover flow in history. I checked and I have the right graphics card and everything, but still refuses to give me the option after reinstalling it. This is really starting to tick me off...please help!

Add me to the list of people with no Top Sites feature. I have a windows XP SP3 machine both at work and another at home. The one at work is working fine. I open up safari 4 beta and get the top sites page. At home I just installed it and I don't even have any "top site" feature whatsoever. Any ideas?

If you've seen it on other iPads - you didn't see it in Safari.
iCabMobile has a top sites feature and maybe that's where you saw it but Safari never had it on the iPad.
