Tab to user on login screen

I was able to do this with 10.5. Not sure if was something I set way back when, but I don't think it was. Is this feature just gone now? Thanks!

Hmmm, I'm not sure I actually did anything, I just couldn't remember. I WAS able to use the tab key to do what the arrow keys work for now. I didn't even think of trying that though. Thanks! Life is good again.

  • Good news! Removing "other user" from login screen.

I got a brand new macbook pro days ago. All are amazing, except the annoying "other user" on the login screen. I have googled and tried every possible solution such as disabling root user, changing user's name, deleting and etc.
Here is the 100% successful solution.

  • Guest User from Login Screen

    Hello,
Under Snow Leopard, I was able to have a guest account show on the login screen and anyone could log into this account which would delete all data upon logout.
In have enabled the guest user in Lion and it does show up at the login screen. When the guest user is selected at the login screen it gives a notice that the computer must be restarted into safari only mode rather than loging into the guest account as before. If a regular user is already logged into the system and the guest account is selected from the fast user switching menu it logs in to the account just as it did on snow leopard.
I would like to know if there is a way to revert the login screen functionality of the guest user so that users can actually login rather than having to restart into safaro-only mode.
    Thanks

I erased my HD and installed Lion again. First thing I did was run all software updates. Once I got around to enabling the guest account it now functions as it should and how it did under snow lerpard.
My previous install of Lion was also a clean install on a blank drive so I don't know why it was a problem but it's working now.

  • On the iMac user account login screen, what does the checkmark mean?

On my iMac, I have 3 user accounts. Sometimes I have noticed that next to 1 of the 3 account names that I will sometimes see a small white check mark in a red circle. What does this mean?

I just received the same login for the first time in a while.  I had left my MacBook Pro asleep for several days and then turned it back on and the wakeup/login screen presented a similar red circle with a white check mark inside.  Did you find an answer?  I created a new post today to see if anyone has had anything similar, not sure if it's firevault or not confirming id...

  • User Account problem - bounce's back to Login screen

Here's a new one for ya. My 24" iMac (OSX 10.6.2) will allow login on some but not all user accounts. I currently have 5 different user accounts on my iMac (we are a family of 5). No problems ever with logging in until SL upgrade. Now 2 of the 5 user accounts act strange. When you click an account everything appears fine, then you see a quick flash of blue screen and you return to the main user account/login screen. I can select any of the 3 other accounts and everything works as it should. I repaired permissions and that didn't help. Any ideas?

In System Preferences > Accounts, for each account you can assign "login items".
These will start automatically when the account logs in. If there is something that
is not compatible with Snow Leopard, it may be causing problems.
Easiest thing to do to verify this is to remove them.
You will need administrator access to the accounts panel to make the change.

  • Screen Sharing via iCloud on Lion Freezes at Login Screen

After updating to OSX Lion 10.7.3, screen sharing between two computers via the Internet allows me to connect to the remote computer and see the remote user's login screen, but as soon as I click on a user to login, the screen share image freezes before I can enter the user password.
Using iCloud Back to My Mac because all machines have the same Apple ID & password. Exact same setup worked before the 10.7.3 upgrade, but it could be coincidence.
    Details:
Can see the remote computers in my finder,
Can click on them and connect successfully using either the Apple ID or the name and password a user that is allowed under Sharing -> Screen Sharing,
When clicking on "Screen Share," the computers connect and I'm prompted to either "Ask to Share the Display" or "Connect to Virtual Display"Since there really isn't anyone using the computer, I select "Connect to Virtual Display"
After clicking "Connect to Virtual Display" the Screen Sharing window shows the remote computer's login screen, whcih shows the user names, their icons and "Sleep" "Restart" or "Shut Down" on the bottom of the screen.  One user has an orange circle with a white checkmark next to it.
Previously, I could click a user's name or icon, enter the password and control the remote Mac.  Now, not amount of clicking works.
Have tried disconnecting and reconnecting as different users or using Apple ID without changes in the perofmance. Have restarted both machines.
    Any help?

I'm having the same problem screen sharing to a Lion 10.7.3 machine, I get this message.
However, it works just like it used to when I screen share from a 10.7.3 machine to another Mac running 10.6.8.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

  • Dashboard - login screen before all pods

    hi
I am using Flex Dashboard framework consisting of pods for my
application. My requirement is to provide user a login screen which
will authenticate user credentials. Once the credentials are
validated then login click should allow the user to go inside the
    application.
Since the application is developed using dashboard pods so I
need to know how will I integrate the login screen with pod
framework. User should be presented with the login screen first and
after validate credentials all the pods should be visible.
This is very urgent for me can you please let me know, how
can I achieve the above requirement using POD framework

  • Network users not showing up at login screen

Hello, I am new to Server and I have set up an Open Directory setup (using smb for home folders, I heard that it was faster or something somewhere) on my server iMac 27".  This iMac is running Mavericks 10.9.4 and the latest version of Server 3.  On my client iMac 24", I have bound the server to the iMac, as evidenced by the green dot next to the server IP in System Preferences Users and Groups.  The iMac is running Mavericks 10.9.4 as well.  For the network accounts, I have chosen to store the home folders on the server itself, so they are not mobile.  When I try to log in to the network accounts from the client iMac 24", the "Other..." selection does not appear so that I can input the username and password for the network user.  However, I am able to log in to the network accounts just fine from the server iMac 27", as well as another MacBook running Lion 10.7.5.  How can I get the "Other..." selection to show up on my login screen so that I am able to log in to the network accounts?
And yes, "Allow network users to log in at the login window" is checked.

Many Open Directory problems can be resolved by taking the following steps. Test after each one, and back up all data before making any changes.
    1. The OD master must have a static IP address on the local network, not a dynamic address.
    2. You must have a working DNS service, and the master's hostname must match its fully-qualified domain name. To confirm, select the server by name in the sidebar of the Server application window, then select the Overview tab. Click the Edit button on the Host Name line. On the Accessing your Server sheet, Domain Name should be selected. Change the Host Name, if necessary. The server must have at least a three-level name (e.g. "server.yourdomain.com"), and the name must not be in the ".local" top-level domain, which is reserved for Bonjour.
    3. The primary DNS server used by the master must be 127.0.0.1 (that is, itself) unless you're using another server for internal DNS. The only DNS server set on the clients should be the internal one, which they should get from DHCP if applicable.
    4. Follow these instructions to rebuild the Kerberos configuration on the master.
    5. If you use authenticated binding, check the validity of the master's certificate. The common name must match the hostname and domain name. Deselecting and then reselecting the certificate in Server.app has been reported to have an effect in some cases.
    6. Unbind and then rebind the clients in the Users & Groups preference pane. Use the fully-qualified domain name of the master.
    7. Reboot the master and the clients.
    8. Don't log in to the server with a network user's account.
    9. As a last resort, export all OD users. In the Open Directory pane of Server, delete the OD server. Then recreate it and import the users. Ensure that the UID's are in the 1001+ range.

  • Why do I get sent to the User Login screen to enter my password after sleep?

    Hi,
On OSX Lion, 10.7.4. I recently had to reinstall the OS on a new hard drive in my iMac and now have an issue with it that I never had before.
After prolonged periods of sleep (I haven't determined what the minimum length is before this will happen), when I come to wake the computer it shows me the User Login screen. Under my user icon is an orange checkmark, presumably to show that I am the user logged in. Otherwise it is exactly the same as the User Login screen one gets when the computer boots up. I select my user icon and enter my password and the computer unlocks.
I haven't got this set up anywhere, that I know of. I don't have the 'Security & Privacy - Require password for sleep and screen saver' option checked, never have. If I do turn that on just to check, it's a very different password screen, a little popup window in the centre of the dimmed screen.
How do I turn this feature off?
    Thanks,
    Owen

Sounds like you may have deleted something you shouldn't have. Boot to an OS X DVD or a bootable backup, and using Disk Utility, do a repair disk, and while there repair permissions. Disconnect any peripherals, and reboot. If you get the same startup behavior, do a safe boot, by holding the shift key down when booting. If that works, try a normal boot. If neither step helps, you may need to relaod your operating system.

Power on MacBook Pro takes me to login screen. All user icons appear as normal. Once I enter password for myself (administrator) spinning takes longer than normal and doesn't log in but displays a no sign (circle w line through it) when attempting to login from guest account it takes me to screen that says that the computer will restart to a safe safari system for the guest user. • Can not get to Login Screen. Possible User Account or .plist Corruption?

I was helping a client who is upgrading both her desktop and a laptop machine. She had already started the process and she had used the migration tool to move her user account from her old G4 to both her new Mac Pro and MacBook pro. So basically both new machines were now clones of the old G4 which was running Tiger.
Everything was going well and we were busy doing some other stuff when I suggested to her that she should set up a secondary user account on each machine. This is something I suggest to users, because I have seen user accounts get corrupted, and if that account is the ONLY account on the machine, you are not going to be able to do anything on that machine (easily). At least with teh other account, you can log in and see the drive, etc.
So she set up a new user and also enabled fast user switching and I was about to show her how the whole user switching works, but when we choose to log out of her current account, the Mac went to blue screen and just got hung up. After much waiting we had to force a hard shut down. Upon restart we see the Apple logo and then go to the blue screen, but we never reach the login screen.
I wrote this off as a fluke, but also told her that I am not to comfortable with that and decided to completely wipe the drive and do a fresh install of everything and not use the migration assistant. All is well with that machine now.
So we moved on to the Mac Book Pro and we repeated the same addition of a user and upon logout it did the exact same thing. So by now I am sure that something in the library form the old G4 must be corrupt, because both of these machines were basically clones of that one. So we are probably going to do the same thing to this one too, but I was wondering if I could learn something from this.
Assuming that some .plist is corrupted, ( probably the com.apple.loginwindow.plist) I was thinking I could access the drive through target mode, find that. plist and delete it. But then that made me think, if I were to delete it, what would the Mac do at startup if it sees no .plist of the login screen or user accounts?
Also, is there a way to alter the login options through single user mode. So for example I am quite sure that it is the .plist for the log-in options that is corrupted. So if I could change the login option to automatically log into her account, thus bypassing the login screen, I think we can bypass this issue for now.
    Thanks.

First you don't delete the suspect .plist, you move or rename it. Deletion is down the road a piece
Second, when the system boots, it recreates any missing .plist files, presuming nothing else is wrong.
Many, including myself, have dragged the entire Preferences directory onto the desktop and rebooted without a problem.

  • Upon bootup, login screen initially shows only 1 admin user.

I have an iMac 27 running OSX 10.8.2 with two admin users that I'll refer to as Admin1 and Admin2.  When then system is booted up, the initial logon screen only shows Admin1.  After logging in as Admin1 and then logging out, both Admin1 and Admin2 are then listed on the login screen.  I am able to log in as Admin2 at that point.  If the computer is rebooted for whatever reason, the Admin1 user is the only user listed upon reboot and the process of logging in/out as Admin1 must be performed again in order to get Admin2 to also appear on the login screen.
Any ideas on what is going on and how to fix?
If any add'l info is needed, please let me know.
    Thanks in advance,
    ~Greg

That would be the way it works, then.
If you want the other Admin user to be able to decrypt the disk (and thus log in without Admin1 doing it first), you will have to decrypt and set up FileVault again.

  • System freezes and restart after user login screen shows up

The interesting thing is thing is that the same thing happens on the bootcamp partition. Every time I turn on MBA mid 2012, when the login screen shows up, the computer freezes and than turns off. Same problem when I boot into bootcamp partition, the computer turns on, pass through windows logo and after the login screen shows, it turns off.
...forgot to mention that it's running osx 10.9
I figure out that I can log in with Sage Mode. Every time I log in with Safe Mode, the error popup message shows up saying about the error and its log. There is the log:

    Any ideas?

Problem solved... Figure out that in Safe Mode, the bootcamp partition is unmounted. So I thought that it could be the problem, when the login screen shows up, I guess the system was trying to mount the bootcamp partition and for some reason the computer was restarting. That's why the computer was turning off when I was trying to log in into Bootcamp partition also. So I wiped my bootcamp partition and resized the OSX partition. Now I can succesfully log in my user with out a problem
