"Tabbed" image in CS4 for tabbing in a PDF?

I want to compare the effect of various edits on an image, by tabbing between them in a PDF that is generated from an InDesign file. This is the scenario:
1. Scan a Kodachrome slide.
2. Edit the image a certain way in Photoshop using Curves.
3. Apply a new Curves layer and edit a different way, then observe the difference by toggling between the two (or three or more) Curve layers.
4. And alternative method (same visual result) is to duplicate the image, apply the different edit, and tab between the two images in Photoshop.
5. When I am satisfied that I can do no more with the different editing methods, that image will become a part of an InDesign document which details my method of scanning Kodachrome.
I have found that comparing images sides by side is not a satisfactory way to compare images – and it takes a lot more space on the page. It is much better to toggle or tab between them as you can do in Photoshop. Thus, I would like to be able to have three images, say, stacked on top of each other in InDesign, and some way of toggling between them when the document is exported to PDF:
1. A reader opens the PDF on a certain page. Image on left (say), description on right.
2. By clicking on something, any one of the three images can be made to immediately appear in the space allocated to that image.
The result will be that even subtle changes in contrast or colour will become obvious, whereas when viewed side-by-side, such subtleties are not noticeable.
Is it possible to set up a document in InDesign so that when it is exported to PDF the reader can tab between stacked images?

After testing in CS6, turns out that images can't be tabbed in a PDF. See my later post at http://forums.adobe.com/message/4438629#4438629

  • Auto tone in Lightroom 3 unusable - have to 'auto tone' the image in CS4 for correct tonal quality.

    The 'Auto Tone' in Lightroom 3.2 never gives me the correct tone, that I'm looking for in my image. It'll either make the overall image too dark, or over-brighten it in unrealistic colours.
    I always have to go out of Lightroom and edit/auto tone my image in Photoshop CS4, which gets it spot-on just about every time, especially with my studio shoots. In Lightroom 3 the backgound/overall image stays dull looking, while in CS4 it automatically brings out the crisp white of the background.
    I also use OnOne PhotoTools 2.53 Professional Edition, where I see the Auto Tone matches CS4 exactly - Lightroom 3 however definitely uses a different algorithm, which is not useful for me at all and makes for much longer editing times.
    Example 1 (image auto toned in CS4):
    Example 2 (image auto toned in Lightroom 3.2):

    Hi Rob
    Appreciate your replies.
    I'm using the 'Image -> Auto Tone' function directly within CS4 - I'm not using the ACR window through CS4.
    I see that CS4 can no longer be updated with the latest ACR (6.2), although obviously Lightroom 3 can still be updated. Maybe this is where the 'different auto tone results' come in. Maybe the latest version of ACR is not as compatible to my image requirements, as the previous editon with CS4 was.
    Anyhow, to recap, I use 'Auto Tone' straight in CS4, with preferable results over that in LR3. I'm not sure what an effect ACR has over the 'auto tone' functionality in both these versions.
    I definitely do however want to post this question in the Adobe Technical Support section - thanks for that.

  • Problem with Current Tab Image property of tabs

    Hello. I am having trouble changing my tab entries to appear as images. When editing a standard tab I went to the section labeled "Images". Then I put values in for "Current Tab Image" and "Non Current Tab Image", and after running the page the images do not appear. The tabs still appear as text. Does anybody know what the problem is?
    The paths that I tried to use for the images are:
    button.gif
    #WORKSPACE_IMAGES#button.gif
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    -Jason

    Never mind, I figured out the solution.
    I'll explain what needed to be done for those of you that come across the same problem.
    I had to edit the Page Template, and go to the section "Standard Tab Attributes". All I had to do was change the text "#TAB_LABEL#" to "#TAB_IMAGE#"

  • Change Tab Images

    Hi All,
    I'm trying to control the appearance of the tabs by adding images, I have read some threads talking about this subject but I did not find something describe the (Current Tab Image) and (Non Current Tab Image) tab attributes. Can use it to change the image of the tabs
    Thanks

    Hi,
    You can change the images for current and non-current tabs, though it is most likely that you will have to do this for all tabs within your application. Have a look at: Re: Changing the theme of certain tabs (but not all)

  • Images for tabs are not getting displayed in the page

    Hi,
    I have given images for tabs on a page. when iam applying images from the local disk, it is showing the images in edit mode. But when I view the page, it is not showing any images.
    Where should i copy the images I use in my pages. I ahev copied all the images in the images directory of portal30 in server.
    Please help.
    Murthy

    Hi,
    Please check the httpd.conf file in your server for /images alias. The /images alias will point to a directory. Copy your
    image files in that directory.

  • Help with CS4 tabbed image mode?

    How does one drag a layer from one image to another in tabbed mode?
    I'm forcing myself to work with the tabbed image interface as I assume someone thought this new feature was a good idea.
    I often drag or shift+drag layers from one image to another, whether it be adjustments or image elements that need to be placed (in register) as a layer in another open image.
    But when I use the tabbed interface mode any attempt to drag a layer from one tab to another does not work.
    What am I missing???
    Thanks
    Russell

    Yeah I noticed the same limitation.. they making floating document mode extra ****(UI interface that doesn't adhere to System OS visual style, documents that no longer move with the main PS UI, like when you adjust the mainframe size or move the window floating docs would get moved and stay within the UI, unless you dragged and floating doc outside the main ui frame, which was good, but now it seems floating docs always live outside the mainframe and appear above docked although open panel UIs.. not to mention the new theme looks like complete and utter dogshit.. but oh well.. CS5 might get some more work.. maybe they'll bring back the pallete well.. ******* adobe noobs.
    I too liked to drag & drop of layer objects onto another document its common thing I do when working in photoshop.. I just can't believe how lame Adobe are that they couldn't allow this functionality seeing as a tabbed UI is the default setup now..
    seems like the only way around it is to use the now **** floating document mode... or use one of the splitview modes.. course those are crap, but at least you can D&D layer objects, and then switch back the single doc tab.
    lets not get into the flakey **** opengl support and functionality.

  • Firefox doesnt load an image when *lots* of tabs are open

    Hi,
    An old website I created has a problem displaying a very large background image when *loads* of tabs are open (which makes me think its something to do with memory).
    An example page of the site in question is:
    http://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/about-us
    The white background image (which is super large for reasons not to discuss now) will show fine when, say, up to 10 tabs are open. However, if you have loads and loads of tabs open, this image doesn't display/render (even though firebug says it has).
    Some info about the image:
    http://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/sites/all/themes/southbank-centre/images/template-3-col.png
    79.6kb
    940px by 23000px (super huge I know)
    The problem is when it doesnt load, the copy is hard to read (as you can imagine).
    This doesnt seem unique to my computer. It happens to other peoples firefox browsers (and they have slightly different versions and different plug-ins).

    I'm not having any problems on that page with over 80 tabs open and the number of tabs shouldn't matter.
    Did you check if you can reproduce it with a clean new profile without extensions?
    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Creating a "tabbed" image in an exported PDF or SWF

    I posted about this last year, well in advance of actually doing it, and thought I had the correct answer (see http://forums.adobe.com/message/3759403#3759403). However, now that I've had a detailed look at CS6 and tried to create a "tabbed" PDF (my original term, but more correctly called a multi-state object with interactive buttons), I find that it can't be done. Although maybe it can, hence this post.
    I'm trying to make a file (PDF, SWF, whatever) exported from CS6 that can be opened by virtually any novice computer user without hassle. i.e something like a PDF; something my grandmother could open and marvel at the cleverness of her grandson. Here are some options I've tried.
    Method 1
    Export a "tabbed" image from CS6 to Interactive PDF format. Unfortunately, "tabbed" images don't tab. Or have I not ticked the right options when exporting?
    Method 2
    Export to SWF format, with the HTML option ticked. But that seems to generate two separate files: an swf file and a .html file. Clicking on the latter opens the file in a web browser – so far so good, and it works like a charm – but I don't like the idea of two files when I send them to my grandmother. I suppose I could encapsulate both of them in a zip file, tell her to open that, and then open the one with the suffix .html… but you can see the process is getting complicated, probably beyond my poor old Nanna.
    Method 3
    Export to PDF (Print). To get this to work for "tabbed" images, this is what I envisage (not yet tried).
    Say I have three images that I want to overlay and tab between, like you can do in Photoshop. I set up multiple interactive buttons (Next, Back, Skip…), appropriate text anchors, and whatever else is needed, on three separate pages, with the three images in identical locations on those pages.
    The user comes to the first image, checks out the image, then hits Next. The page seems to instantly change to the next image (on the next page).
    The user then hits Next or Back or Skip.
    In the above thought experiment, I think I have simulated "tabbed" images at the cost of additional pages. Any novice user could easily open the document, though I'd have to make sure the navigation is very clear and simple to use.
    I welcome any comments on obtaining "tabbed" images from a document exported from CS6.

    Thanks Bob. I posted a short while ago, but have edited that post.
    With further playing around I was able to get your suggestion working (exporting to SWF, then placing, then exporting as Interactive PDF). Why would I be disappointed if I tried that method with an entire document? My document will probably contain about 200 pages, and maybe 20 of them would have "tabbed" images. What problems would I come across, other than the extra time involved in separately generating 20 pages of "tabbed" images.
    [Added after some testing]:
    One problem I have found is that text is rasterised.
    When I export a page from InDesign to SWF, and then open the SWF file in Flash Player (Projector), text is a vector.
    When the SWF file is imported back into InDesign, and exported as a Interactive PDF, the text ends up rasterised…
    But if I export as SWF, the text is not rasterised.
    CS6 is rasterising the text within a SWF file when it exports to PDF. Is there a way of exporting an SWF file to Interactive PDF so that text is not rasterised?

  • Image Gallery in a tabbed panel

    This seems to be an intermittent issue for me (comes & goes). But, when placing an image gallery in a tabbed panel if I select multiple photos to add (at once) it will expand the tab out to 70 thousand or so pixels wide but, if I add photos 1 at a time it seems to work just fine.
    ( I am using the add images... folder to add images )

  • Bug when using Tab Images

    Hi
    I'm trying to use Tab Images in APEX 4.0.1, but have hit a couple of bugs.
    Firstly, I'm using the substitution string #TAB_IMAGE# in the page template. This is described in the help as "Image File Name", however this is replaced with the full image tag. I believe the help text is very misleading in this instance.
    Secondly, and this is by far the bigger problem, the img tag that replaces #TAB_IMAGE# has the image prefix hard coded into the src! So if the Current Tab Image for my tab is set to http://www.example.com/images/tab1.png then the source for the image in my case is /i/http://www.example.com/images/tab1.png which is incorrect.
    This means that images for tabs MUST always be in the directory referenced by the #IMAGE_PREFIX# substitution string.
    Am I missing something here? Is there a workaround? Currently we are unable to use Tab Images due to this.
    Many thanks
    Sara

    Hello Sara,
    The behavior you are describing is a long time known issue. It is a bug that should have been resolved by now, but for some reason was not. Maybe it’s because none of the default (built-in) page templates is using images with TABs.
    The workaround is to create your own img tag in the appropriate page template section, using the #TAB_NAME# substitution string. The principle is to name your corresponding images like current_#TAB_NAME#.gif and non_current_#TAB_NAME#.gif, where the #TAB_NAME# part in the file name is replaced with the actual tab name. So, for a TAB called EMP, you’ll have two image files by the names current_EMP.gif and non_current_EMP.gif.
    Regards,
    Arie.

    Firefox upon opening an image in a new tab, centers the image from top and bottom and surrounds the image with a grey frame. Just started having the problem today, searched Google to no avail.

    Oh wow, looks like a new feature.
    The "page" links in a stylesheet with the address "resource://gre/res/TopLevelImageDocument.css". If you remove that reference, then the image displays in the old style.
    '''''Edit: Please skip the rest of this post and check out the next one.'''''
    There might be a more elegant solution than that, but you could use a bookmarklet to strip out that link when you want to view the page in its old style. A bookmarklet is a snippet of JavaScript you save on the Bookmarks toolbar for quick access.
    First, copy the following code to the clipboard (it's all one long line):
    <br>javascript:var ssheet=document.querySelector('link[href="resource://gre/res/TopLevelImageDocument.css"]'); if(ssheet)ssheet.parentNode.removeChild(ssheet); void 0;
    Next, if you are not displaying the Bookmarks Toolbar, use View > Toolbars > Bookmarks Toolbar to display it. (If you aren't using the classic Menu bar, press Alt+v to call up the old View menu. Right-clicking the gray area just below the page address also allows you to display the Bookmarks Toolbar.)
    Right-click on the Bookmarks Toolbar (or Mac equivalent of right-click!) and choose New Bookmark.
    Paste the code into the Location box (the second box).
    Then type a useful name in the Name box (e.g., Oldstyle Picture) and click Add.
    Now, when you want to tweak the image display, click the button to run the script.
    Manual clicking is a hassle, so it might make sense to look into other solutions. (Greasemonkey didn't seem to work; I think it might not run on .jpg files.)

  • Customize jQuery UI tabs by using real tab images

    The jQuery tabbed panel is extremely easy to be integrated in Oracle Apex. The thing that I don't like it the most, however, is that it uses CSS3 to style the tabs - instead of using the tab image(s). This makes it look very inconsistent with the page design. I tried my best but still couldn't figure how to use background image(s) in the following stylesheet for jQuery UI tabs. I am sure there must be some ways to customize the following stylesheet, but I am just not sophisticated in CSS. Can anyone help? Urgent...
    Here is the way I like the tabs to be rendered:

    Thanks.

    <pre>
    /* Tabs
    .ui-tabs { position: relative; padding: .2em; zoom: 1; } /* position: relative prevents IE scroll bug (element with position: relative inside container with overflow: auto appear as "fixed") */
    .ui-tabs .ui-tabs-nav { margin: 0; padding: .2em .2em 0; }
    .ui-tabs .ui-tabs-nav li { list-style: none; float: left; position: relative; top: 1px; margin: 0 .2em 1px 0; border-bottom: 0 !important; padding: 0; white-space: nowrap; }
    .ui-tabs .ui-tabs-nav li a { float: left; padding: .5em 1em; text-decoration: none; }
    .ui-tabs .ui-tabs-nav li.ui-tabs-selected { margin-bottom: 0; padding-bottom: 1px; }
    .ui-tabs .ui-tabs-nav li.ui-tabs-selected a, .ui-tabs .ui-tabs-nav li.ui-state-disabled a, .ui-tabs .ui-tabs-nav li.ui-state-processing a { cursor: text; }
    .ui-tabs .ui-tabs-nav li a, .ui-tabs.ui-tabs-collapsible .ui-tabs-nav li.ui-tabs-selected a { cursor: pointer; } /* first selector in group seems obsolete, but required to overcome bug in Opera applying cursor: text overall if defined elsewhere... */
    .ui-tabs .ui-tabs-panel { display: block; border: 0; padding: 1em 1.4em; background: none; }
    .ui-tabs .ui-tabs-hide { display: none !important; }
    </pre>

    I found the following javascript tabber (5 KB only to reference the tabber-minimized.js file) by which you can have any tab style you want. You can also use a cookie to remember which tab was selected. No need to find out how to customize the jQuery UI tabs if my only goal is to render DIV blocks in a tab panel!

  • Current Tab Image

    Hi All
    I have page template as 'One Level Tab with side Bar'.
    i have 3 tabs - Home, Master, Transaction.
    Now I want a GIF image for Home tab.
    I went into the 'home' tab (in shared cmponents) and there in the tab attributes for Images filled the following entries
    Current Tab Image:
    Non Current Tab Image:
    Image Attributes:
    How do I do it.
    Thanks
    Ameya

    Ameya - I think the page template's current tab/non-current standard tab attributes (sub-templates) must position #TAB_IMAGE# "just so" in that HTML. Having said that, I don't think it's possible to have just one of your tabs use an image and the others not.
    Perhaps someone else who has had experience with this will jump in.

  • Current Tab Image bug?

    Hi,
    I tried to used Image tab for my page and I put "#WORKSPACE_IMAGES#tab01_off.gif" in the Current Tab Image.
    But when the page generate, I found out it will auto prefix the img src with /i/ and become /i/wwv_flow_file_mgr.get_file?p_security_group_id=1037921554244471&p_fname=tab01_on.gif, and the image couldn't be displayed.
    Is that a bug in Apex?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Yes, I think it is a bug - at least is was as of last year, see: Re: Changing the theme of certain tabs (but not all) On that thread I offer a workaround which involves changing how tabs are rendered - I don't know if you want to go that far, but it may be your only solution for now?

  • Where is the layer panel/tab in Dreamweaver CS4?

    Its not under the insert header where you would expecti it to be.

    Starting with CS3, there are no more "layers" - the term was not only too confining, it was also not easy to apply.  DW now uses the term "absolutely positioned" to refer to any page element that has the style "position:absolute" applied to it - which is what made a 'layer' a 'layer'.  In fact, you can absolutely position just about any element on the page, including images, paragraph tags, tables, horizontal rules, etc., thus the expanded utility of the new designation.  The tab you are looking for now is the "AP Elements" panel.
    That said, you also need to know that the easiest way to land in "Layout Hell" is to start using absolute positioning as a layout tool.  It is definitely not.  You should read this page to learn the correct approach to building your page -
