Table and Figure Autonumbering
I am currently using FrameMaker 8.0 and having a problem with the autonumbering of my tables and figures.
Is there a way to have these as seperate numbering but still referencing the Chapter number?
E.g. CHAPTER 1
Table 1.1
Figure 1.1
Figure 1.2
Table 1.2
CHAPTER 2
Figure 2.1
Table 2.1
Figure 2.2
Table 2.2
Thanks in advanced!
Skye
Skye,
If your chapters are separate files, then you should be using the
$chapnum variable and control that at the book level.
If all of your chapters are in a single file, then you have to define
your autonumber sequences to use the matrix method and have the
chapter number paratag reset the sub-ordinate paratag autonumbers.
This is explained in the "Using multiple counters in an autonumber
format" section of the Help file.
The first method is the easiest to use and maintain.

Separate table and figure numbering sequences
I need some pointers and guideance on how to setup autonumbering for tables and figures separately. As it is, the number sequence advances upon usage by a table or a figure. For example, Table 1, Figure 2, Figure 3, Table 4. What I need in that case is Table 1, Figure 1, Figure 2, Table 2.
Steve,
The easisest way is to use what's called a series indicator for you autonumber sequence. This consists of a single letter at the star of the autonumber. Typically, one could use F:<n+> for figures and T:<n+> for tables. FM will then number these streams differently. You can make things more complex in your setup (and much easier for the authors) using a numbering matrix where parent heading tags reset the lower level counters (which is what Peter was alluding to).

Is there a way to auto-renumber tables and figures in an InCopy document?
I am looking for a script or plugin to be able to auto-renumber figures and tables in large InDesign/InCopy documents. Say if I add a new figure in between figures 4 and 5 I would like all following figures to automatically renumber and all references to those figures in the text to also auto-renumber like in a Word document. Possible? We have over 100 authors that are concerned this can't work. Need help.
The link below is to a zip file containing: 2 PDF files which are excerpts from Help (one on autonumbering and the other on cross-referencing) and a CS6 InCopy file with sample paragraphs using autonumbering for multiple list levels, tables and figures. If you have a Lynda.com account, that's perfect for quickly learning more about cross-references and autonumbering. I created the sample file quickly so I hope I put all of the elements you were trying to see in the file. If not, let me know. I have never posted a link on a forum so again, let me know if there is a problem getting the file. Hope this helps.

Adding Tags in PDF for Tables and Figures
Please let me know how to add tags for Table and Figure in the PDF and also about setting up attributes for that
You can add tags to a PDF Document. If the PDF is untagged you can use the advanced, accessabilty, add tags to the document. If the PDF is already tagged or after you have run the add tags you can use the "touch up reading order" menu and then make the item you want to be a table a table etc....

Cross-references (MS-Word to WebHelp) not showing up for Tables and Figures
I am converting an MS-Word 2010 document to WebHelp using RH9. Cross-references to numbered sections, appendixes, websites, etc. come out fine. Cross-references to tables and figures do not always appear. In some sections they are there, and in some they are not.
Would anyone be able to offer any insight into how I can get these table and figure cross-references to come out on a regular basis in the WebHelp version? Thank you.UPDATE TO PREVIOUS MESSAGE: Cross-references to tables and figures NEVER appear in the RH version when coming from MS-Word.
Is there any way to have these cross-references appear? If not, it appears the only solution is to bookmark tables and figures individually and hyperlink to each of them.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Indesign cs3 for table and figure
In Indesign cs3 for table and figure automation scripts
Tables - auto align and place near citation
Figures - place near citation with caption
Its urgentok, well, you may want to ask a question, rather than just stating what you need to do. also, people are helping you for free, so writing it's urgent won't get you very far.

Table and figure numbering in multi-chapter book
Using InDesign CC 2014 I am editing a book that consists of 23 chapters. Each chapters are added to the book separately. There are 5 levels of titles, level 1-4 is numbered (first level is the chapter title), the 5th is not.The numbering of the titles in chapters works very well, but I have problem with numbering of figures and tables.
The numbering of tables and figures should look like this: Table 1.1., 1.2., etc, Figure 1.1., 1.2., etc. The first number is always the chapter number, the second is the number of table/figure in order - within the chapter. I want the second number to re-start in each chapter. But if I select "continue from the previous number" (or something like this - I have Hungarian version, tried to translate to English), the numbering does not re-start with each new chapter, however gets the correct ^H number. If I select "start", all tables and figures will be ^H.1.
My question is: what should I do on one hand to be able to use (and sync) all formats (including tables' and figures' captions with numbers) in the whole book, in the same time making the figures' and tables' numbering having ^H followed by a number re-starts in each chapter? For this, the table and figure number should be which level on the list? What to do with "restart numbering at this level after" option?
I have searched the www from A to Z and back but could not find the answer. Please, help me! Oh, and please, write the how-to description step-by-step (maybe illustrated?), as I use Hungarian version, which makes applying the suggestions a bit difficult. Thank you, in advance, for your kind help!Darn Framemaker and its use of phantom numbering placeholders.

Is it possible in a single file document to have section related numbering for Tag=bles and FIgures?
I need to number a document with label such as the following:
Table x.y where x is related to the Header1 tag and x is sequential to the figures or tables within that section.
The section numbering function appears to only work for multifile booksDarn Framemaker and its use of phantom numbering placeholders.

Automating Table and Figure Numbering
I have a large document with many figures and tables that get removed/added or just change locations throughout the document while being reviewed. It is also required to have a sentence in the text referring to the table/figure. My question: is there any way to make the table/figure numbers automated so I don't have to keep renumbering them and the corresponding text as they get moved around?
I have checked forums and reference books but haven't been able to find anything about this. Has anyone else run into this problem? If so how did you work it out?
Thanks for the help!
MelanieHi Torben,
This looks exactly like what I need to do and sounds like it would work perfectly but I ran into a small problem...
Got stuck at the first instruction: "Open the Window-Type & Tables - Cross Reference"
Cross Reference doesn't appear in the Type & Tables window. I'm wondering if this may be the difference between CS3 and CS4. We are currently using CS3. I checked the Visual Quick Start book that I have to see if it was just in a different location in the CS3 version but wasn't able to find it.
Do you know of a way to do this same thing in CS3?
Thanks so much for your quick response, you've been so helpful!

How to check 2 tables(Table A and Table B) and figure out new columns present in Table A and add these new columns to Table b.
DDL-
Create table A
( A INT,
B INT,C VARCHAR(2)
Create table B
A INT,
B INT
Any advice on the best approach or method to achieve this.
I understand that I need to check the schema of the columns and then do a match between 2 tables and find new columns and then alter my target table
MudassarCan you try this..
CREATE TABLE A ( A INT, B INT, C VARCHAR(2) )
CREATE TABLE B ( A INT, B INT )
Declare @ColumnVar nvarchar(128),@DatatypeVar nvarchar(128)
SELECT @ColumnVar=x.COLUMN_NAME, @DatatypeVar=x.DATA_TYPE
FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS AS x
WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'A'
AND NOT EXISTS ( SELECT *
FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS
WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'B'
AND COLUMN_NAME = x.COLUMN_NAME )
Declare @SQL VarChar(1000)
SELECT @SQL = 'ALTER TABLE B ADD ' + @ColumnVar + ' '+ @DatatypeVar
Exec (@SQL)
select * from B

Key Figure Reference table and fields
I am getting the following error:
/BIC/CSSMMIMI1-/BIC/KFMI_LCHF (specify reference table AND reference field)
I am aware that it is asking me to put a reference table and field for the field in the structure.
However, what I am not sure about is should I do this action from SE11 or is there a program or other method which would be more suitable (this is not business content)?
ThanksHi Edwin,
Thanks for that, the currency type and quantity type are hard coded in the key figure for most of the key figures apart from one, i.e for the quanity I hard code PCS
From RSD2 I just check the repair option is that correct -
How to query a table and result together with autonumber
Hi all
How to query a table and the result return autonumber for each row together with the table values.
I have tried rowid but it provide me with characters.
TjWhat is your exact requirement?
If you want the number of rows selected, you can use rownum.
select rownum, a.* from <table> a;

I am using iPad pages, and figuring out how to create a table of content.
Hello
I am using pages on my iPad Air, and figuring out how to create a table of content? (TOC)
Anyone can help me please?Based on what I have found, at this time, it appears that the only way to add a TOC or Bibliography to a Pages file is via Pages for MAC. Once that is done, you can automatically add entries in Pages for iOS. But you cannot initially add the element.
It is not out of the question that there are some templates for Pages for iOS available that already have these added and available - but I cannot say first hand. All of the built in templates for iOS appear to be for short format documents and I have yet to find one that includes the TOC or Bibliography. -
Limiting Tables and charts with Measures having RelativeValue
Hallo,
I just try to do some difficult stuff with the WebI Rich Client 4.1.
There are two measures for each month on a time line showing year and month. Thus, I have a dimension for year and month and two different measures for each year/month combination.
Now, e.g. I want to compare these two measures having same month and different years, say the current year and the year before. Please see the table below for a visible figure.
I used RelativeValue([measure prior year_1];([year/month]);-12) for [measure prior year] in order to compare one 1 year older measure with the other measure.
year/month
measure prior year
measure current year
2010/10
2010/11
2010/12
2011/01
2011/02
2011/03
2011/04
2011/05
2011/06
2011/07
2011/08
2011/09
2011/10
439
97
2011/11
7.294
2.712
2012/02
20.496
13.397
2012/05
21.859
12.636
2013/01
36.325
27.286
2014/08
26.894
17.425
There are no values for [measure current year] before 2011/10. But, there are values for [measure prior year_1] before 2011/10. [measure prior year] is actually from 2010/10, 2010/11 and so on, as defined with RelativeValue.
No problem here. Everything works fine. But, now, I want to start the table with the first row where [measure prior year] is not null while leaving measure current year unchanged. Just cut the table and start with 2011/10...
And here we get the problem. Hence, RelativeValue references to values before 2011/10 all these reference will disappear for [measure prior year].
The same is with charts. I couldn't find a way to reference to values that exist by the query but which are not displayed in a table or a chart!
What I need is a way to reference to values which are not present in a single table or chart but in the report. I already fiddled with the display options (null values, without dimension etc.) of tables. But, no way.
How could a accomplish this task?
Any idea of something like "hiding" unwanted rows/bars results in "loss of data".
Thanks for any help
MatthiasWell... if you think and try long enough, you may find the solution .
The core problem is to reference to queried values not shown in the table/chart. And there IS a solution.
Just use...
NoFilter(RelativeValue([measure prior year_1];([year/month]);-12))
... instead of
RelativeValue([measure prior year_1];([year/month]);-12)
NoFilter enables RelativeValue to reference to values not present in a table or chart, but available in the report .
From there on, you can define e.g. the starting point of the category axis of a chart by defining a local filter without losing values to be referenced . -
