Table Maintenance Generator - Rows should be editable

Hi
I have created one TMGfor a database table. In that im having two screens one is overview & other is single screen. based on the requirement i have changed the second screen that means single screen. There I have put one table control and copy paste the first screens code here.
Here im facing one problem. When im clicking on New Entries it will move on to second screen but only 8 rows are in editable mode. I want all the rows should be in editable. The problem is first screen that means overview screen has 8 entries and that many rows are in editable mode in second screen.
Please help me.

Hi,
In PBO of the single screen, there will be a variable which stores number of records to be edited.
By debugging try to find out that variable and change its value to number of records in the
output internal table..
Expecting that variable name will have a pattern as maxlines*.

Go to SE11, give the table name and click on change. Then Go to utilities--> Table maintenance generator.
In the table maintenance generator screen, we should give Authorization Group, Function Group name (Function Group name can be same as table name), Maintenance type can be one step or two step, usually we will create with one step. we should give maintenance screen number. After clicking on create button, a table maintenance generator will be created.
To check it go to SM30 . In SM30, we find display, Maintain options.
We can view the table contents by choosing Display and we can create table entries by choosing Maintain.
Why we have to go for Table maintenance generator, when we can edit the table by SE16 or SE11, utilities->create entries?
In the production system, end-users will not be having access to transaction codes like SE11 and SE16. Developers will not be having access to many transaction codes including the above two.
To view the contents of the database table, we will use SE16n in Production system. Please find out the difference between SE16 and SE16n.All these authorizations will be maintained by BASIS team, by creating access profiles.
So in order to edit or create the contents of a database table, we should go for table maintenance generator. In real time, authorizations will be maintained in production system. (even in development and Test systems to some extent).
There is an audit like Sarbanes-Oxley Act for American clients, where every thing will be audited by government agency. To know more about SOX, use the links on the right hand side of this page.
The second reason is, we can edit or create multiple entries at a time, using table maintenance generator.
Apart from that we have options like 'Enter conditions' in table maintenance screen SM30. Please try to find out the use of those, by creating an example.Table Maintenance generator: Difference between one step and two steps.
While creating table maintenance generator, we find below options:
    1. When we choose one step, we have to give the screen number in Overview Screen field.
    2. When we choose two step, we have to give both overview screen number and single screen number.
You can give any number for screen. Don’t give 1000 screen number. As this number is reserved for selection screen.
When we choose two step, two screens will be created for table maintenance. For single step only one screen will be created.
When we choose two step, table maintenance will work as follows:
Go to SM30, give the table name for which you have created table maintenance-
Overview screen will be displayed. To create entries, when you click on ‘new entries’.
Another screen will be displayed, where you give input and save.
You can enter one record at a time.
We use single step generally, as it is user friendly.
To completely understand the difference and above points please do exercise by creating table maintenance generator in both ways (using single step and two step).

  • Table Maintenance Generator : Editable Entry after validation fails

    Hi,
I have created a Z table and a table maintenance generator to maintain the data.
I have to carry out certain validations when user enters data on Key and Non- key fields.
This is working fine, but the issue is with the key fields.
If validation fails, the table maintenance screen is displayed the date-field is grayed out (non-editable) as it is the key field of the table.
Now the user cannot change the data unlike the non-key fields were the user can modify the non-valid data and save again.
How can make the date field (Key Field) editable after entry in case the validation fail, so that the user can make the changes.
Please suggest the approach to handle the above scenario in events.
    Thanks,
    Keyur

    Thanks Kiran for your inputs.
I have done the same thing what you have explained.
I have used a Form Routine as CIP_SAVE with Event Number as 01, since on event SAVE i need to validate whether dates are
overlapping the inputs dates or not.
    Fields are :
    Group ID (Key)
    Start Date (Key)
    End Date (Key)
    Value (Non -Key)
    Initial value in Table:
    Group ID = 12345
    Start Date = 01/01/2011
    End Date = 01/31/2011
    Value = 11.11
Now if i try to enter value:
    Group ID = 12345
    Start Date = 01/02/2011
    End Date = 01/25/2011
    Value = 99.99
& SAVE it... validation will fails because Start & End dates overlaps.
Hence, on Table Maintainance Screen all key fields will be in non-editable display mode, whereas non-key field will be in editable mode.
My requirement is that Start Date & End Date key fields must be Editable field.
    Thanks.

  • Table Maintenance Generator via program using ALV OO concept

    Hi All,
I have a requriement to update the table using OO ALV i.e table maintenance generator program.
My Z table have three fields say.. NEW status, old status and flag.
I have to dispaly the records of the Z table in Matrix format.
for example the records of the Z table is
    New status
    Old status
    Flag
    N1
    O11
    F11
    N1
    O12
    F12
    N1
    O13
    F13
    N2
    O21
    F21
    N2
    O22
    F22
    N2
    O23
    F23
    N3
    O31
    F31
    N3
    O32
    F32
    N3
    O33
    F33
My program have to display the records of the table in matrix format  i.e
    |   .....       |    O11    |  O12  |  O13   |  O21  |  O22   |   O23  |  O31   |   O32  |  O33 | ..
    |     N1    |     F11     |    F12     |  F13     |    .....   |  .....       |  ....        |  .....      |   .......     |   ....    | ..   ____________________________________________________________________________________
    |    N2     |     .....     |  ......      | .......      |   F21   |   F22     |  F23      |   ...        |   .....       | ......   | .
    |     N3    |     ......   |   .....      | .......   .  |  .......   |  .......     | ....         |   F31     |    F32      |  F33   |
The ALV display is dynamic i.e it depends upon the no. of records in the table...
My headings( Row heading and Column heading )  will be the value  from table... and the user should be able to change the Flag ... For example when the user change the Flag  'F21'  to say 'X',
    |   .....       |    O11    |  O12  |  O13   |  O21  |  O22   |   O23  |  O31   |   O32  |  O33 | ..
    |     N1    |     F11     |    F12     |  F13     |    .....   |  .....       |  ....        |  .....      |   .......     |   ....    | ..   ____________________________________________________________________________________
    |    N2     |     .....     |  ......      | .......      |   X       |   F22     |  F23      |   ...       |   .....       | ......    | .
    |     N3    |     ......   |   .....      | .......   .   |  .......  |  .......     | ....       |   F31      |    F32     |   F33    | .
In the Z table  the record  is
                     N2          O21        F21
    should be changed to
                    N2          O21        X
I tried using ALV oo concept....but  I can able to display the output as like it is in table ....Not like the one above format....
Can you please help me to resolve it?
    Thanx in advance

  • Purpose of table maintenance generator

wht is the purpose of table maintenance generator

    Hi Pavan,
The purpose of table maintainence generator is to enable the table maintenance through SM30, and to implement and validation etc on table field inputs.
    SE11->Utillities->table maintainence generator
You need to enter the values of following fields:
    1. Table name
    2. Authorization group , and authorization object (select the suitable one )
    3. Function group and package
    4. Maintainence type : single or double screen maintainence view depending on the option selected.
    5. Maintain screen number : you may specify a value or let the system generate one for you.
The validation code for the table entry is written in the flow logic of this screen. Even some of the fields may be made display only , by adding suitable code in the logic or directly disabling the input in table control in the layout.
Table maintanance is for creating, adding datas to an existing table.
it is for adding muiltiple records at a time in the table
A table can be manipulated by a program or manually.
When creating table, you will find a check box 'Table maintenance allowed'. If we
check that option, we can manually enter entries using SE16 or table
    maintenance generator screen.
    SE16 is for data browser.
Go to SE11, give the table name and click on change. Then Go to utilities--> Table

  • Disabling fields in table Maintenance generator

    Hi Experts,
I would like to restrict some fields in table maintenance generator dynamically/ statically.
    Here is the situation.
I have generated table maintenance for the table ZMARA and I have created three transactions for the above single table maintenance generator.
    i.e .. Transaction      ---        Table
              ZT1                  ---         ZMARA
              ZT2                  ---          ZMARA
              ZT3                  ---          ZMARA
I am using above three transactions in my module pool program. Based on the certain conditions I am calling different transactions i.e ZT1, ZT2, etc
    Here is my requirement:
Suppose if I call ZT1 transaction, I need to display only few fields. i.e ZMATNR, ZMTART, ZPRODH.
or remaining fields should disable. User should not allow to change the content, even if it is new entries/existing entries. only ZMATNR, ZMTART, ZPRODH.
Suppose if I call ZT2 transaction, I need to display only few fields. i.e ZMATNR, ZMTART, ZHTSCODE
How can we restrict dynamically when you call table maintenance generator table through transaction
    or
How can we generate table maintenance for few fields?

One step, two step in Table Maintenance Generator

Two step: Two screens namely the overview screen and Single screen are created. The user can see the key fields in the first screen and can further go on to edit further details.
Difference Between Select Single and Select UpTo One Rows
According to SAP Performance course the SELECT UP TO 1 ROWS is faster than SELECT SINGLE because you are not using all the primary key fields.
select single is a construct designed to read database records with primary key. In the absence of the primary key, it might end up doing a sequential search, whereas the select up to 1 rows may assume that there is no primary key supplied and will try to find most suitable index.
The best way to find out is through sql trace or runtime analysis.
Use "select up to 1 rows" only if you are sure that all the records returned will have the same value for the field(s) you are interested in. If not, you will be reading only the first record which matches the criteria, but may be the second or the third record has the value you are looking for.
The System test result showed that the variant Single * takes less time than Up to 1 rows as there is an additional level for COUNT STOP KEY for SELECT ENDSELECT UP TO 1 ROWS.
The 'SELECT SINGLE' statement selects the first row in the database that it finds that fulfils the 'WHERE' clause If this results in multiple records then only the first one will be returned and therefore may not be unique.
    Mainly: to read data from
The 'SELECT .... UP TO 1 ROWS' statement is subtly different. The database selects all of the relevant records that are defined by the WHERE clause, applies any aggregate, ordering or grouping functions to them and then returns the first record of the result set.
Mainly: to check if entries exist.

  • Event for input validation in custom table (table maintenance generator)

    Hello all,
I look for a solution to execute an event after the modification of a table field of a custom table to validate the user's input.
I already tried event 07 (Execution : Before correcting the contents of a selected field) of the table maintenance generator but it will be executed after some modification made by the Edit -> Change field action.
I could use the event 01 but in my opinion this event happens to late and errors are very uncomfortable for the user at that time.
Editing the dynpro events is not a solution for me because it should be easy to maintain the table structure at any time.
    Thank you in advance
    Robert

    Thank you!
Event 08 just starts after the saving process after Event 07.
Event 18 gets executed when I click on the save button.
I want to check the data after the enter button was pressed as you can see it in several transactions.

  • Table maintenance generator problem

    Hi Experts,
I a table maintenance  generator I have to check for authorization in plant level before deleting an entry. I have created a routine which is of "03-Before deleting the data displayed". But in that if I read ytable-plant it has null. It doesn't point out which row I have selected. But for updation, it takes the exact row values which I have selected.
How can I read the line which I have selected.
    Thanks and regards,
    Venkat

    Hello Venat
It will be very confusing for users if there are deletable and non-deletable entries side by side in your maintenance view. Instead, you should do the AUTH-CHECK at the beginning and restrict the selectable data accordingly. All data that are now displayed can be treated the same way (including DELETION).

    BBC

    Hi,
    Thanks for your inputs,
Now I have included add, modify, delete and save functionalities to ALV table.
Here What I did, fist it shows the list of records from data base table with ALV table as ready only mode.
    Then
If we click on add button then last row will add with editable mode,
If we select a row and click on modify button then in that row fourth field only editable (because first three are primary key fields).
If we select row and click on delete then record deleted and updated in database table.
If click on save button, it captures the modified ones then saved.
if we test individual functionality, it is working fine.
If we do fist add functionality then after saving if we click on modify row then it is showing total row as in editable mode.
Here as per modify fyctionlaity in that row fourth field only have to show editable.
Please can you suggest how to resolve this issue?

    Dear Jaspal,
To fetch the NAME1 automatically, you need to write the logic in the Table Maintenance Generator.
Goto -> Utilities -> Table Maintenance Generator.
    Inside TMG,
    Goto -> Environment -> Modification -> Events.
Click -> New Entries. Create a Form Routine.
    Inside the Form Routine,
    Write the select Statement as,
    Select single name1 from Lfa1

The info icon in the first pic says to do the following.
Choose 'Edit Function Group' in the transaction SE54, enter the function group name 'ZOTMTRDPROFITSEG' and choose 'Regenerate Group-Specific Programs'. Choose 'Refresh Structure-Spec. Data Declarations' in the next selection window.
Would like to add a point that this Function grp also contains TMG for other tables as well, will it impact other TMG's.

regenerate the TM object via SE11 - Table maintenance.
    normally should do the trick.
However, keep the func groups & tables 1:1 saves a lot of this kind of problem.
Don't mix them up i.e. more than 1 tab maint for a func group - never ending hassle you will get!!!
go into Expert mode and regen it again. Remove the maint from this func group and create new func group for the table.

  • How to disable a field in the table maintenance generator of a table

    dear experts,
i have created a table with  2 fields A ,B . i had created table maintenance generator  for the table. i am entering the values for the table through table maintenance generator . for filed A i had given dropdown list which contains  only 2
entries YES & NO. my requirement is if i select YES in field A , field B should be in enable mode(it must take some input), if i select NO in field A, field B should be in disable mode ( it should not take any input).
    kindly help me....
    thanks & regards
    krishna

    Hi Krishna,
A further to the above, you can go to SE11 and in the table maintenance generator click on
Fn.Gr.Text button, then go to Main program.
Here you will see "User-defined Include-files (if necessary). "
Just uncomment the PAI include and put your code..to make the field editable or un-editable.
To do that you might have to go to the screen painter and change that screen, to include those fields in a group or something, so that you can control them better.

    hi swamya,
Table Maintanance Generator is used to create/change/delete table entries in a particular table.

The second reason is, we can edit or create multiple entries at a time, using tablemaintenance generator.
Apart from that we have options like 'Enter conditions' in table maintenance screen SM30.
hope this helps in clearing ur doubt.

  • Objects created when creating table maintenance generator

    Hi guru's,
I heard that when we creating a table maintenance generator for a table, it will create view, search help and some else.Is it true?
Please tell me what objects will be created when we create table maintenance generator for a table and why? what is the exact use of creating table maintenance generator for a
table other than reduces the time for entering large volume of data.
    Regards,
    Rakesh.

    Hello Rakesh,
TMG is a tool meant and designed to maintain Customizing table/views. Customizing essentially means, that the data should be transportable across clients/systems.
All this, and the facility to maintain data (display, edit, create, delete, translate) is provided by the TMG. When you make the changes like above, the TMG also provides you features to automatically also enter the changes into transport requests.
Coming to what objects are created when you generate a maintenance dialogue -
    1) A Customizing Object (merely a class C/G table or view does not become a
                                        customizing object)
    2) A function group (as entered in SE54 details, if the function group does not already
                                  exist)
    3) Lot of coding within the function group (Func modules, subroutines, includes)
    4) Screen(s)  (1 or 2, depending on a setting in the TMG)
    5) An automatic recording of all these objects into a transport request, for you to conveniently ship them to other systems in your landscape (this, if automatic recording is
    switched ON in your system)
Authorization group - It is not created automatically (unlike function group). You need to specify an existing Auth group, or use a different functionality to create on of your requirements.
Does this answer most of your questions? Please revert if you need more clarifications.
    Regards
    Rekha
PS: Actually, why dont you try generating a maintenance dialogue for a sample z-table and see what all gets generated?
