Table of contents isn't showing the paragraph style I've set it up with

I've made a table of contents in my document, and I've set up a character style called TOC body text, which has settings as belowL
However when I click OK to create the TOC, the text comes out in all caps size 24, like this:
This is the same as the style in which the headers appear on their pages within the document:
(NB I've typed the headers out in sentence case, then selected all caps here, rather than typing them out with caps lock on):
I want the headers on the contents page to appear the same style as the body copy throughout, however then seem to be retaining their header style.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
Rebecca

Thanks for your reply! I'm still not sure what I'm doing wrong though - at the moment I have TOC Body Text which is a paragraph style applied to the entry, and body which is a character style applied to the number and the between.  I think that's what you're suggesting, but I already have it set up like that and it's still not working?
Thanks
Rebecca

  • My table of contents does not use the entry style I select for words in the paragraph that have character styles applied to them in the chapter, so some of the letters are showing up as green, which is fine in the chapter but not in the TOC.

My table of contents does not use the entry style I select for words in the paragraph that have character styles applied to them in the chapter, so some of the letters, specifically parameters, are showing up green, which is fine in the chapter but not in the TOC. I can manually fix this in the TOC by changing the character style to none after the toc  has been generated, but I don't want to do this.

    Hmmm. Apply the styles?

  • How to change the paragraph style of every paragraph that only contains an anchored object?

    Hi,
I have a document in word that needs to be converted into indesign. The document containts instructions, each step followed by an image.
I've managed to import the document into Indesign, and applied a paragraph style with numbering to everything (text an image).
Now, how to change the the paragraph style of every paragraph that only contains a image? I need to get rid of the numbering.
    Thanks in advance.

Create two Paragraph Styles and name them Image and Non-Image. Apply the paragraph styles manually to the text containing image and not containing images.

I am using Cloud InDesign CS6 on Windows 7.

  • Two more options in the paragraph styles panel

I would like two options in the paragraph styles panel.
    1.
The posibility to set the 'Sort by name' option as a default or persistent
    2.
The ability to label the styles with colors

Let me second the motion for a persistent "Sort by name" option for the Paragraph Styles panel.
In addition, somebody at Abobe "improved" the Paragraph style "Basic Character Formats" menu for CS6 by sabotaging the natural progression of tabbing directly from setting the *Font Size* to setting the *Leading* amount. Why would anyone at Adobe think that going from *font size* to *kerning* is an improvement for design professionals?

  • Where are the paragraph style tools in Indesign CC2014?

Hi! I've just started using Id through Creative Cloud on a new computer (have been using CC CS6 for two years), and the installer gave me CC2014 rather than CS6. So this is a question only about CC2014.
Where has the paragraph styles window gone? Specifically, how can I edit, create and organise paragraph styles, and how can I get a window up on the main screen with all the styles laid out? All these things were easy to find in CS6, but I can't track them down in CC2014. The only thing I get (and that with a bit of customization). is a drop-down menu in the main toolbar, which allows me to choose from existing options on an existing document.
There is no Paragraph Styles option under Windows>Styles.
There is no Paragraph Styles option under Type.
The only Paragraph window which appears is designed for editing text as you go along, not for applying styles.
The Help options all point me back to the entry for CS6, and tell me to go to Type>Paragraph Styles (which doesn't exist).
I can't get a window up on the main screen to apply styles instantly from a list. I only get that dropdown menu, which has no further options.
Can anyone either point me to some up-to-date guidelines or explain where all the paragraph options have gone and how I can use them? Alternatively, can I revert to CS6? This was easy and intuitive before, and now it's neither...
    Thanks!

Yes, that did it. All the old menu options have reappeared. I don't know why they were hidden in the first place - these were things I never needed to set up on either of my previous computers.
    Thank you very much!

  • InDesign CS6: How do I set Character Color to Unspecified/Undefined in the Paragraph Style Options?

Is there a way to create a Paragraph Style that leaves the Character Color unspecified?  I have a bunch of existing text frames containing characters of various colors. When I apply the Paragraph Style, the text is changed to black. I want the text color to remain unchanged; that is, I want the Paragraph Style's Character Color attribute undefined.  How do I do this?
All of the text frames in this case have their Character Style set to [None]. The text colors were applied individually, not via the use of Character Styles.

I have a bunch of existing text frames containing characters of various colors. When I apply the Paragraph Style, the text is changed to black. I want the text color to remain unchanged
If you apply the color to the characters via Character styles then the colors will be unchanged when the Paragraph style is applied. Like this:

How do I get the nested style sheets to work in the paragraph style sheets?

Hi Denise, we need more information on what you are trying to do before we can help on your specific issue.
You can look at this document, which covers nested styles: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/indesign/cs/using/WSE33E49F9-94CE-4043-AA51-4761408A63F4a.html

  • How can I change the paragraph style of the Table of Contents entries themselves?

From what I can see, all Table of Contents entries are the same font, size, indentation and layout when the book is viewed in Portrait mode on an iPad. I have long subheadings in my Table of Contents, and they get truncated!
How can I modify the style definition of the TOC entries themselves so that they will display in a smaller font size with less indenting, etc.?

Have you tried altering the style of the default items on the TOC page?

  • In FM 10  Table of contents wraps ok except the page number.

In FM 10  Table of contents wraps ok except if the text just makes it to the end of the line the page the page number goes to the start of the next line. If the text is longer the text wraps fine and the page number goes right justified as it should.  What am I missing?

    Van,
When you want to change several settings the same way in multiple paragraph formats, there is no need to do so one format at a time.
To set all formats in all paragraphs and catalog entries:
    1) Open the paragraph designer and go to the appropriate tab.
    2) Type Shift-F8 to set all properties on the tab to "As Is".
    3) Set the properties you care about to the desired values.
    4) From the Commands pop-up in the lower-left corner, select Global Update Options.
    5) Click the All Paragraphs and Catalog Entries.
    6) Click Update.
The properties you specified but no others have been changed.
If you do not want to update all paragraphs or catalog entries, make a copy of your document. In the copy, delete all catalog entries you do not want to update. Perform the above steps. Import paragraph formats from the copy into the actual document(s).

  • Pages Table of Contents - doesn't show in sections menu - any ideas?

Watched the video and it looks simple but when I go to Sections it does not give me the option of choosing Table of Contents. Anyone know if there's something I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks

Click at the beginning of your document > Menu > Insert > Table of Content
It only works in a Word Processing document and you select which of the applied Styles you have used in the document. eg Heading 1, Heading 2

  • How do I get rid of the extra table of contents that appears following the Pages export to epub?

When I export my document to epub out of Pages and then open it in ibooks (or any other ereader for that matter)  an extra table of contents with links to the document sections appears at the beginning. This toc has its own numbering system--with its numbers set in front of those I have assigned. This toc is ugly and superfluous and doesn't seem to have anything to do with the table of contents available in the dropdown menu used while actually reading the document. How do I get rid of this extra table of contents? I'm sure I must be missing something obvious, but I can't find a way to remove it. Thanks for any help with this problem.

  • All site content isn't showing

We're testing our new website in BrowserLab, and while the entire page loads vertically, not all content is showing up on the sides. Text is being cut off. Is the "screen" in BrowserLab set up to only show a certain width? Our content expands to fit the entire browser screen. I'm thinking that BrowserLab has a standard resolution (1024 pixels)... Is this the case?
Can we adjust this resolution? Thanks for any and all help!

    Hi,
Yes, this is the case. BrowserLab currently has a static resolution limited to a width of 1024. There is currently no way to adjust the resolution. We've looking into this in the past and, perhaps surprisingly, this is not a simple feature to implement. However, I'll pass this post along to our product manager as a feature request for that.
    Thanks,

  • My clip preview on the right isn't showing the entire frame, it looks magnified?

I checked the magnification settings but I still can't see the entire edges of the frame?

Sounds like the Sequence Settings don't match the dimensions of the source content. Try dragging the clip in the Project panel to the New Item button in that panel's lower right corner.
If that doesn't resolve it, please post a screenshot showing the Source Monitor and Program Monitor and, ideally, the Project panel with the Video Info column visible.
