Table of Contents Issue for ePub

I am trying to create a TOC for an ePub that looks like I want it to:
Chapter One: The Name of Chapter One
Chapter Two: The Name of Chapter Two
etc.
To do this:
I imported the ePub styles from the ePub sample document
On a page which begins a chapter I typed "Chapter X" and gave it the Chapter Number style
Under that I put the name of the chapter and gave it the Chapters style
I selected both the Chapter Number and Chapters styles in the TOC tab of the Inspector
The resulting TOC in the ePub document looks like this:
Chapter One
     Name of Chapter One
Chapter Two
     Name of Chapter Two
If I DEselect the Chapter Number style in the inspector the entire TOC gets messed up
How can I get the TOC to look like I want (see above).
Thanks.

Make sure the TOC is in the style source document
Thank you so much! This was the thing I did wrong. There had been another document marked for style source. Now it works perfectly.

  • How do I create a Table of Contents page for ePub that link?

I am new to E-Publishing, I have been able to my overall book but cannot figure out the Table of Contents. I need them to link to the chapter page. I have created a table of contents and they dont link. I tried to create hyperlink within the document but they only work in the pdf version and not the ePub. What can i do so that they link in the ePub version as well ?
I dont know if this information would be helpful but I also wanted to mention that All the chapter names are set to the same style, and that the Table of content I have created so far was made through the TOC option in InDesign. Also the layout is fixed and I am using InDesign CC 2014

  • Table of contents issue

    Hi ,
I am an XML publisher newbie. I looked around in the forums and couldn't find an answer to this. I am using XML Publisher 5.6.2. I created an RTF template and created the Table of contents section using Microsoft word. When I use this template to generate a rtf document, I am able to see the table of contents. But, the page number always shows up as 0. when I click on the link, it takes me to the correct location in the generated doc. But, there is no way to update the page numbers. Can somebody help?
    Thanks!

    Hi Vetsrini,
I tried exactly what you said. I put <?company?> as heading2 in a for loop. Once I added it , I updated the TOC (entire table). When the output is generated, I can see "Company1", "Company2" etc in my TOC. They are getting dynamically generated. But, the Page number still shows up as zero. When I click on them, it would take me to the correct location. But, the page number would show up as zero. I tried this from XML Desktop publisher (using preview). I also tried to generate it through a Java program by calling the APIs. The output is still the same. I have one more issue and I am not sure whether it is related to this or not. I am not able to display the page number in the generated output. I have defined it in the footer in my template. But, the output doesn't show the page number.
    Thanks.

  • Table of Contents Issue/Question

Hi everyone, I hope I can put my question accurately into words.
I'm working on a 450 page product catalog in Indesign CS5 for the mac.  The catalog has 7 main sections, in which there are numerous smaller sections. I need to create a table of contents for these smaller sections, however, my issue is this;  my table of contents is based on the product names which I've applied a paragraph style to, but, also included on the same line that the product name is, are several small icons.  I used the library function to put these icons into place.  I put my curser where I wanted the icons to be, went to the library, right clicked on the icon I wanted, and selected place item.  I found this to be the easiest way since there were approximately 1500 products in the catalog.  So, my issue is, now that I'm creating a mini-table of contents for these numerous sections, the icons are included in my table of contents, which I don't want.  I can manually go in and delete each icon, but I'm thinking there has to be a faster way.  I thought of possibly a grep style but can't figure out how to make that work.
Any help would be appreciated!  It's going to take a while to delete each one of those.  I hope I've described this accurately; please feel free to ask any questions if it's not clear.
    Thanks so much!
    Annette

Oh my gosh, that did it!  Thank you sooooo much!
I couldn't figure out how to choose just those characters because I hadn't designated them as anchored objects; that was throwing me, but I guess Indesign saw them as such.
Thanks again, you've saved me hours of work!
    Sincerely,
    Annette

  • Help needed with table of contents construction for ebook

I am creating an ebook manuscript in Pages. I want to link the headings in the table of contents - instead of the page numbers - to the appropriate sections of my document. Is there any way to do that?
Also, how can I edit the table of contents? I don't mean change the style. I've already done that. I just want to add extra spacing and insert a page break. Every time I try to insert my cursor to make these changes, the headings become highlighted in blue. How can I avoid that?

Is your goal to have links on the chapter titles as an ease of use for the consumer of your ebook, or as a convenience to you that enables you to jump around the book with a single click?
The first part of the conjunction does not appear currently possible in Pages. The second part is possible.
Select a chapter title. Open the link inspector and choose the Bookmark tab. Add your chapter titles in order as bookmarks. No hyperlinks. Once done, you can use your mouse to select the bookmarked chapter title from the link inspector bookmark list that you want to instantly jump to in your Pages document. Simpler than using the TOC to do this.

  • Table of Contents issue in 11.1.2.1

Has anyone seen an issue with a book table of contents when generated in PDF Format. 11.1.2.1
On the side panel where each page is displayed there is a Table of Contents page listed but when you click on the report it does not show up at all. It is the 1st report. No Table of Contents.
    Thanks.
    Judy

    Hi Judy,
I've seen the following bug, which sounds similar, at a client and the issue was fixed with patch set 107:
12800944 – The table of contents does not display and the page numbering is incorrect in a Complete Book in PDF.
Other book bugs fixed in patch 107:
12916617 – The page numbering in a Complete Book in PDF is incorrect.
13071627 - If a Book has page size set to Legal/Ledger/A3/A4, the complete book PDF's page numbering and Book TOC's (Table of Contents) Mapping are wrong.
12802465 - Complete Book in PDF returns a blank page with dots in 11.1.2.1.
12916552 – The table of content links navigates to the wrong report in the Complete Book in PDF.
I don't think it requires other patches to be installed (essbase, APS, Foundation, etc) however it will require re-installation of FR Studio and reconfiguration of the FR Print Server.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers, Iain

  • Table of Contents Issue - TOC Styles Set Correctly, but TOC Shows Two Fonts on One TOC Line

I created a template and set up all of the styles correctly, as with every other template I've ever made.  However, I have never run into this problem before.
I created the template to match a client's style/look.  They use a font called "Gill Sans MT."  My Normal style is set to this, and my TOC styles (TOC 1, TOC 2, TOC 3, etc.) are based off of the Normal style.  My Heading styles are
also based off the Normal style and use the same font.
For some reason, the TOC in the document is populating with two different styles.  The actual Heading text is showing up as Arial font, but the tab leader and the page number are showing up in the Gill Sans MT font (see below).
Any idea what's going on here?  I have tried modifying the TOC styles, inserting a new TOC, basing the TOC styles off of "(no style)," changing the Heading styles, clearing the formatting on the Heading styles, etc.  I can't get anything
    to work.

All I can suggest is to try your steps again. You mention everything that I would try.
I assume that the template is a .dotx or .dotm file, and so, does not have an "attached template."
When you tried basing your TOC styles off "no style" I assume you set the font to Gill Sans MT. I would definitely have the heading and TOC styles set to cascade.

  • Multiple table of contents in document

    Hi there,
I'm new in FM8. I recently received a document in FM8. The structure of the document is as follows:
Every file of the document corresponds to a chapter. Each chapter contains a table of contents for its subheaders and paragraphs.
Table of contents (here are the chapter from 1 to 10, only the chapters)
Next is Chapter 1 which include a small table of contents with all subheads and paragraphs (e.g. 1.1, 1.1.1 and so on)
The same goes chapter 2 to 10.
    That's not all.
Chapter 7, 8, 9 and 10 are placed in different folders coresponding with chapters title. The rest of them (chapter 1 to 6) are placed all in the same folder.
For chapters 7, 8, 9 and 10 I manage to update the second table of contents (which contains subheads and paragraphs - e.g. 1.1, 1.1.1 etc.)
In the main folder which contains rest of the chapters there are TOC files for the main Table of contents and for the subeahds and paragraohs contents corresponding to each chapter. Here I have problems with updating them because when I open the book and update it only the main TOC will be updated. The problem appears when I create PDF. Because after creating PDF when I click on a chapter name in the TOC it will bring me to the chapter I want but when I click on the TOC for subheads/paragraphs nothing happened, except for chapters 7, 8, 9 and 10.
    So, to be more explicit.
When I click on chapter 7 in pdf, acrobat will send me to the chapter 7 where I find another TOC in wich if I click on subead 7.3 it will send me to the page that includes subhead 7.3. Instead if I click on chapter 4 it will bring me to the page coresponding for chapter 4 but there if I click on subhead 4.3 nothing will happen.
I will attach an example of that PDF.
The file structure looks like that:
    Chapter 7 folder:
         - book
         - TOC file for chapter 7
         - chapter 7 (same structure goes for chapter 8, 9 and 10)
    Project folder
         - book (it contains all files from chapter 1 to 10)
         - TOC file (the main TOC)
         - TOC files for chapters
         - chapters' files
Thank you. Any help will be appreciated.
    Excuse my poor written english.
    Trully yours,
    Fagaras Codrut Sebastian

    Hi,
if you got an FM book which contains separate TOCs for each chapter, it was most likely created using either
    - the Systec TOOLBOX (http://www.systec-gmbh.com/en/sites/toolbox.php) or
    - FrameScript (http://www.framescript.com/) with an itl script named "DocToc" (http://www.i-frame.itl.info/i-frame-base.html, website currently only available in German)
Without these solutions, you won't be able to comfortably handle a book like yours.
    Regards,
    Bernd

  • Including Tagged Text in a Table of Contents

I would like to include only a few words from a given paragraph in the Table of Contents.
For example in the example paragraph, I would like only the term Blather to appear in the TOC "Blather - Blah blah blah blah."
Is there a way I can tag "Blather" and then have the TOC dialog include Tagged Text?
    I'm using CS 5.5.
    Thanks you.

    Thanks Peter,
I like the auto-updating feature of the second option.
So that I understand, you're suggesting I create a hyperlink destination on the text to display in the TOC (right-click --> Interactive --> New Hyperlink Destination), and then manually insert a cross-reference to that hyperlink destination in my TOC (Type --> Hyperlinks & Cross-References --> Insert Cross-References --> Link to: Text Anchor)?

  • How to get only partial text of a paragraph into the table of content?

    Hi guys,
currently I'm working on a manuscript based on the publication manual of the American Psychological Association.
Unfortunately, there is some sort of heading that's placed right in front of further text. Here an example:
+This is my heading.+ Now ordinary text formatted differently should follow.
Does anyone here know, how to get the text of the heading (but not the following text) into the table of content? For as far as I know I can't format the heading as a different paragraph than the following text.
By the way, I use pages'08.
    Thanks for your help

    Hi Dennis,
thanks for your suggestion, unfortunately I already tried that and it didn't work. I have created several unique styles. Problem is, I need two diferent styles in *one paragraph* - one style for the "heading", which is consistent to the APA manual not an own paragraph (sorry, not my idea...), and another style for the following text. As my example above shows, the heading is followed by usual text and I may not press return after the heading and switch to a new paragraph..
It has to look exactly like this:
+heading in italics.+ Now heading is followed by usual text without changing the paragraph or starting a new line. Blurb blurb blurb whatsoever blurb blurb. The text goes on an on and an on you see.
I can't format the heading differently than the text (because if I try, the whole paragraph is formatted this way) and so I can't add just the heading to the TOC. Do you see what my problem is? Got any other suggestion?

  • Reducing the topics in default table of contents

Hello- This one should be easy, but I can't figure it out.
How do I reduce the number of topics in the default table of contents. For example, I want to get rid of all the level 2 subjects. For example:
    Summary 1
    Highlights 1
    Sub Highlights 1
I'd like to get rid of the sub highlights... my table of contents is 2 pages for a 5 page document.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

Oh man... I'm an idiot... I found it.. was super easy in the TOC section. Didn't look in the document inspector sections...
    thx

  • How do I locate the page I am viewing in the Table of Contents?

Is there a way to open the table of contents to the page that I am already viewing?
If I have searched a document, and I am at some random page, how do I find out where I am in the table of contents?  For example, in the eclipse help system and IBM's "info centers" there is a button that opens the table of contents to the nearest page to where I am so that I can guage the general intent of the pages I am reading, find related content or quickly assess that this is not what I'm looking for.
I think the TOC is really a collection of "bookmarks" in a PDF file and not a true TOC, but I would assume that if they are sequential there would be a function to open the nearest one.  Can someone tell me if that exists?
    Thanks
    Doug

If you are running Firefox 4 or higher on the "old" computer, then:
    (1) Open Help > Troubleshooting Information
    (2) Click the "Open Containing Folder" button next to "Profile Directory"
    (3) Copy everything to a safe place (please note that the copy of your profile does contain your browsing history and saved passwords, so best not to store in on media that you insert into public PCs)
You can copy the bookmarkbackups folder to a USB flash drive, then on your new computer, import your bookmarks from there. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing%20up%20and%20restoring%20bookmarks Backing up and restoring bookmarks | How to | Firefox Help].
(To clone your entire setup, after you install Firefox on the new PC, you can close it and replace the contents of the new profile folder with the contents you saved from the old computer. That doesn't always work, though.)

  • Include Master Page Items in Table of Contents

I am building a table of contents in InDesign CS3. I've got paragraph style applied to my section heading and well as section subheadings. However, my sections headings are located on Master Pages (as they are repeating on several pages), and my section subheadings are located directly on the pages themselves (as they do not repeat).
When I set up my table of contents only my section subheadings show up, not both. When I go to a page with a section heading and override the master page item and then update my table of contents my section header shows up. Is there any way to include my secion headers without overriding the master page items?
    -Carina

I found this article about using Power Headers to override master frames that addresses the table of contents issue: http://in-tools.com/article/power-headers/power-headers-overrides-master-frames/
    Hope this helps!

  • Hiding subsites in Table of Contents Web Part - SharePoint 2010

I've gone through the normal steps of having the table of contents web part not show a subsite (uncheck the box that says "Show Hidden Sites" as well as hide the site in the global navigation) but for whatever reason, the site I've hidden still
appears in the table of contents. Is there any way to remove it without deleting the subsite entirely?
    Thoughts?

Actually, a version of Nate's solution did work for me, it just needs more details.....
Where you need to check off "Show Subsites" is in the "Current Navigation" section of SiteSettings/Navigation, and then hide the sites from THERE in Navigation Editing and Sorting  (I had already tried it on the Global Navigation side
and the subsites still appeared in the Table of Contents).
For our particular needs, we did NOT want those sites on this root site navigation sidebar as well, so after setting the specific subsites to "Hidden" and saving changes, I went back to SiteSettings/TreeView and unchecked "Enable Quick Launch".
All appears on the Root Site TOC as desired.
So, Nate was right about the whole counter-intuitive thing, but no need for custom css or de-activating/activating the publishing  features
