Table Text Direction

I need help making the text in the top row of a table orient vertically. The header text in each cell is long so I want it to either be vertical or on a 60-degree angle or so. I can't find any place in Pages to accomplish this format change.
Help?

I have used this technique successfully but I found it useful to use the *table inspector* to first check the size of the cell in which the vertical text is to be placed.
Then add a textbox and using the *metric inspector* make the textbox dimensions the same as the target table cell and to change the rotation to 90-degrees (if you wish the text to read from bottom to top) or 180-degrees (if you want the text to read from top to bottom).
Enter the text as required (the textbox flips to horizontal while the text is being modified) – changing the font size if necessary.
Then with the aid of the guidelines it is fairly easy to drag the textbox to the target table cell and position it correctly.
If there are several such header cells, it is probably then easier to Option-Drag the first textbox to the other target cells and then modify the text for each one than to repeat the process from the start.
I found that it was also better to remove textbox border using the *graphic inspector*.

  • Vertical text direction / orientation in tables. (RoboHelp 7 and/or 8)

    Hello all,
I need to squeeze a fairly full table (lots of columns) into a printable page width.
In order to do this, I need to put text into some of the cells so that they read vertically. I can do this in MS Word tables (menu > Format > Text Direction) and need an equivalent in RH. Preferably RH7, (but can import into RH8 if I must ).
    Any ideas anyone?

    Hi Philip
My guess is that you can probably fudge it using CSS. But it won't be something RoboHelp will assist with in any way.
Check the link below for one hit I found. Use Google searching for vertical text in HTML to find others.

  • Can't change text direction in a table

    Hi all
I was making a table in pages but were not able to alter text direction within a cell, any help

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions and the Pages '08 forum.
As Yvan says, rotation of text in a table cell is not a supported feature in Pages. You can achieve the same visual effect, though, using a Text box to hold the text.
    Insert a Text box.
    Enter and format the text.
Use the Wrap inspector to uncheck "Object causes wrap"
Use the Metrics inspector to Rotate the box and contents 90°.
Drag the box into position in front of the (empty) cell.
    Optional, but encouraged:
Choose "Provide Pages Feedback" from the Pages menu.
Send feedback to Apple requesting this feature be added.
Wait for Pages '10 and check for the feature there.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • How to reduce the level of free text / direct purchasing

A common problem at all sites is how to reduce the level of free text / direct / non catalogue based purchasing. This is where users enter an account assignment and free text instead of using an existing material number.
This is often the case because it is too "dificult" for the user to search and find the correct material number.
How have other sites handled this?
has anyone found a solution that if a user enters lets say "paper" into the free text box, a pop up appears with a match on possible materials with the word "paper" in the short description? This sounds like a pretty easy function to implement? Does anyone have the code?

Yes this works, but you have to tell that the user has to enter the text  in the material number field, then SAP will search thru the database.

  • Right to Left glitch in illustrator CS6, CC2014 and NO Text direction button.

On a MAC OSX machine and in my laptop (Windows 8 (64 bit) I am having issues with Illustrator CS6. The  Text direction button that is supposed to be in the Paragraphs palette is missing. Is there something special I have to download in order to get it or something?
    Thanks.

I am now thinking it might be a license thing, but I would like someone from Adobe to confirm this (and possible explain why this is). I am a student, and I use the student license, furthermore the Windows 7 PC I was using was a school computer which is using an educational liscense(all of the computers at school which use and Educational Volumne License are missing this Text Direction button). However another student has the full version and has the Text direction, and when he makes files and brings them school, sometimes his files gives an error when he opens it and it says this photohosp file was made with a different text engine, and then procedes to get stuck in RTL. He has Windows 8 PC and the full version of PS CS6, that is the only reason I think of that is different.

  • Why can't i write text directly in a Pages document without using a text box ?

    Hello buddies,
Once upon a time, when I was running Leopard on my MB black, I was able to open a Pages document and type text directly without creating a textbox. That was a great way to take notes during a meeting or to past a long document in, without thinking how many pages it will takes.
Apparently, this is no more possible ...
Is any of you can tell me why ?
And then how can I do to have this possibility back ?
    Thanks forward,
    Best regards,
    Stéphane

Because you have opened a Layout template.
Go back to the Template Chooser and pick a Word Processing template, they are listed in the sidebar.

  • Standard Widget Toolkit ( output on table/Text is different from console )

First of all, i would like to apologize if the question regarding SWT isn't suppose to ask in this place.
I'm building my program using eclipse, swt is chose to be my GUI.
    Problem :
    String x = "A Tray of Ice Cubes" + "\n" + "WW and an ice cube ";
this string when output inside the 'console' , the both 'Ice' and 'ice' will be align at the same place like :
    ... Ice ...
    ... ice ...
but when i put the inside a table/Text then the 'ice' and 'Ice' will not be align at same place.
It's happen like that because each character width is not the same such as character " W " will take much more bigger width than ' a '.
I already trying to find inside google on how to set all the character/ ascii to be the same width, and i failed.
Anyone that has encountered this problem before and has solved it please help me.
    Kar Hong.

Thanks a lot BoBear for giving me some idea about where should i start so that i can achieve the output which i prefered.
The code i'm using is :
    StyledText styledText = new StyledText(shell, SWT.H_SCROLL |SWT.V_SCROLL);
    Font font = new Font(display, "Courier New", 10, SWT.NONE);
    styledText.setFont(font);
I used "Courier New" instead of monospaced because when i use monospaced, it still not aligned together when i output into my styledText.
I would like to thanks BoBear for the help !!!!

  • Right to Left glitch in Photoshop CS6, and NO Text direction button.

On a windows 7 machine I am having issues with Photoshop CS6 13.0.1 x64 Extended writing in the wrong direction, its goinf RTL instead of LTR. And the Text direction button that is suppsed to be in the Paragraphs palette is missing. I deleted preferences twice and that didnt change anything. I switched back and forth between Midles Eastern and East Asian, and that did nothing as well. I look at my laptop MBP (MAC OS X 10.6), which has PS CS6 Extended 13.0.5 x64, and I dont have the problem with it being locked in RTL, however, my laptop doesnt have the text direction button either, and doing the previous methods did not give me that option. Is there something special I have to download in order to get it or something?
Here is what the button looks like:
    Here is what I have:
Just so you know I hav read this thread, and tried all of the Methods and NONE of them worked for EITHER Operating System.
Also here is a Video for Windows 7 and a video for MAC OS X and the do opposite methods switching to either to East Asian or Middle East(both videos do the oppposite).

I am now thinking it might be a license thing, but I would like someone from Adobe to confirm this (and possible explain why this is). • Changing text direction for Hebrew lines within a document.

We are new to Creative Cloud.  We need to be able to chnage text direction within an In Design document.  We looked up how to do it, and while the directions were clear (clicking on change character direction from the character options menu), our character options menu does not include changing text direction as one of the options.  We just joined the creative cloud a few weeks ago and have the most updated version; what do we need to do?

Do you have the CC Desktop Appliction installed (It's sort of a command central for CC)? If not, get it at https://creative.adobe.com/
The icon should be near the top right corner.

  • How to reverse text direction in keynote?

    Hello everybody,
I use Bullets ans lists a lot. One issue is that giving that i'm using Arabic language, the Bullets and Lists comes to the left of the text while it should come before the text, meaning to the right.
Using Pages I have no problem at all becouse there is the option "reverse text direction" under Alignment options. Can anybody help if such an option is avaliable in Keynote?
    Thanks in advance.

With your keyboard set to US, choose the text option with bullets.  Then switch your keyboard to Arabic and type.  Or set your OS language to Arabic before opening Keynote (it will still have its menus, etc in English).
It will still be good if Keynote had a direction control like Pages, so ask Apple to add that via

  • Right-to-left text direction missing in Indesign CC 9.2

I'm trying to localize an English file to Arabic. According to some of Adobe help files there should be text direction in the Paragraph menu but I don't see them. The "Reverse Layout" option that is available in InDesign CS5 ME is not available in InDesign CC. How can I reverse the layout in InDesign CC and how can add the text direction buttons. I'm sure they are not there so do I need to download something additional.
    Please help!

You need to download and install the English-Hebrew or English-Arabic version. In the CC Desktop App you can click the gear icon and change the language to access them.

  • How to mark table text as placeholder text

I have a Pages document that I would like to turn into a template. I have laid the document out on a table. Some of the table text I would like to mark as placeholder text. I can see the option on the Format ---> Advanced menu, and I can select table text and click to supposedly apply the option, but, the option is not applied. When I click the text in the template, it remains ordinary text. I can mark text that is in the body no problem, just not when it is in the table.
    Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestion.

  • Spreadsheet-Text Direction?

I'm used to PC format/Excel and have not found how to change the text direction within a cell or group of cells. Does mac have a different name for this? I can't seem to find the string or keywords to get the answer in the Help menu. Thanks TWIMC.
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
It's not clear what you mean by "change the text direction." At first I thought you might mean writing from right to left. Easy answer - AppleWorks doesn't do that. But after more thought, I think you mean rotating the text 90 degrees.
You can't turn text in the spreadsheet itself, but you can use text boxes, rotate them & put them where you want. If you can't live with this workaround, you can always buy Office for the Mac or use one of the free Office clones such as NeoOffice or Open Office. Since you are a teacher, there are often substantial discounts offered by software & hardware companies.
As for searching help, it has nothing to do with being Mac or PC, but with what the programers for any particular program have set up. AppleWorks Help works the same whether it is AppleWorks for the Mac or for Windows.
