  • Limiting table title width

    Is it possible to set the width for a table title? For example, I have a 30 pica wide text column and I want to insert a table with a title below. (The table is actually going to have an anchored frame inserted that will contain a graphic.)Anyway, I want the table to be 20 picas wide, left aligned. I can adjust the width of the table and then apply to set that width (for future tables of that type) but the title flows across the entire width of the column. Can that also be set for 30 picas?
    Thanks in advance for your help!

    You can constrain the width of the table title by setting a right indent for the table title paragraph tag.

  • Image files in a table mis-aligned in Internet Explorer

    I have a website which uses a couple of tables to align image files, which consist of text in boxes. Although in Dreamweaver, there is a slight discrepancy between their positions in Firefox or Safari, I've been able to get the alignment I want with small adjustments in Dreamweaver. However, in Internet Explorer 8  the top image file of two which reside in the same table is displayed about 15 pixels to the right of the one underneath it. (The vertical positioning of the whole table is a bit off as well, but I'm less concerned with that as I attribute that to browser positioning issues.) I have no idea how this could happen, as I would think the table would constrain the two images from shifting side to side in relation to each other.
    I'm on a Mac running OSX 10.6.8. and Creative Suite 3/Dreamweaver 8
    Here's the URL:  http://www.downsizedlivingmag.com
    Any ideas as to how I can fix this? Or even better, how I can achieve the same results in IE that I get in Firefox and Safari?
    Thanks!

    Ha, ha. I love the site!
    You can use IE Conditional Comments to add some padding-top above your tables.

    Sadly, when I disable images in my browser, your page is very short on indexable content. Search engines, translators and screen readers can't access text in images.  You might wish to re-think this design decision and opt for more real text in headings and paragraphs where it will get noticed.  Alas, designing for the web has almost nothing in common with print design.

  • Separate table title autonumbering for two named table styles?

    I believe this very same question whizzed by a few weeks ago but I'm having no luck searching for it.
    I have two named table styles.  I want the autonumbering for the table titles to be separate.  More specifically, one will autonumber as "Table t", while the other will autonumber as "Example e".
    I have redefined the autonumbering counter for the second of the two TableTitle para style, and if I apply that style while in that table's title, I get the new autonumbering.  But I can't transmit (a) selectively update the Table Title style to this format to other tables in the chapter.  By extension, I can't copy the  wonderful new table format to other chapters in the book.
    I next tried creating a new para style "ExampleTitle", then in the Table Designer trying Update All.  Nope, other tables of type example do not receive the new title style.
    This is fully-patched FM8.  The document is structured but I don't (want to) care about that -- I simply need to get the two different named table styles
    to autonumber sequentially.
    This is probably pretty easy once I learn the "trick"...(?)
    Cheers & thanks,
    Riley

    Arnis:
    Thanks.  For some reason I couldn't get my table to update, so I went through and manually create a second table title paragraph style, then manually applied that.  (I also created a second x-ref format so that I could x-ref to "Example n:" without including the colon in the x-ref, but that's another story...)
    So for now I've worked around the problem.  After I get this document out I'll revisit the issue.  (Why do I have a vague recollection that there's a known idiosyncracy where FM6+ table styles don't update properly...?)
    Cheers & thanks 'gain,

  • Would like Table Continuation Variable added to a paragraph style, such as to a table title

    My groups uses both Frame 7.2 and Frame 9 and we would like to include the Table Continuation variable to our table title paragraph tag definition so that we don't have to manually add the variable. Is this possible now? If so, how?

    I guess it is possible. I am attaching a screen shot you can follow that.

  • Managing table titles in FrameMaker 12 does not work

    I have a mysterious problem in FrameMaker 12. When creating a table I am not able to move the table title. When changing the setting to below or above or whatever and pressing Apply nothing happens. The feature works allright in FrameMaker 11. I have tried with both existing and new documents and the it doesn't matter. I can not do anything with the title position of tables.
    Are anybody else expiriencing the same problem ?
    regards
    Bjørn

    I don't think it ever was officially documented as the Help for reformatting tables since FM8 states:
    To redefine a table format:
    1. Click in a table whose format you want to redefine, and choose Table > Table Designer. If the table you click in has format overrides, these overrides--not the catalog format's definition--appear in the Table Designer.
    It does seem odd though that in FM12 with the table selected via the anchor, the Designer does show any overrides applied, yet one cannot apply the override this way. Something has changed and it may be an unintended side-effect of something else. What the overall implication for this is unknown, but the programming team should be made aware of this.

  • Table style alignment ignored?

    TCS 2.0, linking FrameMaker 9 (unstructured) files to RH8.
    My FrameMaker files have several one-cell right-aligned tables. I mapped all the tables to a table style called "Product" in RoboHelp.
    The table properties in style mapping are set to be right-aligned for this table. However, the table continues to display as left-aligned in the preview and the output.
    I am not very knowledgeable about css but decided to edit the css for this table to specify right-aligned.
    Here is my css entry for this table style:
    table.Product {
            align: right;
            font-size: 10pt;
            text-align: right;
    The table is still left-aligned.
    Looking at the HTML view for the table, there is this line:
    <?rh-align_start align="left" ?>
    When I manually change "left" to "right," my table is right aligned and looks the way I want.  This rh-align_start property seems to be something that is not in the css or is overriding the css.
    I can also right-click on the table and select right-aligned from the table properties, which accomplishes the same thing. However, I have thousands of these tables and need an automated solution.
    Is this a RH bug? How can I make this table style right-aligned?
    Thanks,
    Alexandra

    Hi Michael,
    that was the solution - thank you for your help! Adjusting this setting (which by the way is named "DisplayUsingPrinterMetrics=On" in my case) resolved the correct line breaking. The maker.ini is full of miracles.

  • Table title text not wrapping on 2nd page after inserting variable

    When I add the variable (continued) to a table title, it increased the length of the sentence on the second page.  The text doesn't wrap, it just gets cut off.  Any suggestions?

    Unless someone else has found some magic trick... You are kind of stuck here: Either keep your table heading short enough to have room for the continuation variable, or make sure the text flows into the second line all the time.
    It is apparently so that a repeated table heading has the same geometry as the original, first heading. [I don’t like it, but I kind of understand that limitation.]

  • Losing table vertical alignment when converting ditamap to book

    FrameMaker Version: 12.0.4.445 (latest, part of TCS5)
    I have a structured project, where several XML files have been arranged into a ditamap.
    For one of the XML files, I have a table, where I need to set Cell Vertical Alignment of the cells to MIDDLE.
    So using Paragraph Designer > Table Cell, I change the entries from Top to Middle (The defaults were Top).
    With the ditamap pane selected, I then go File menu >> Save Ditamap As
    I save the ditamap as "Book 12.0 with fm components (*.book)" file type.
    In the resulting book, the XML files are now .FM files.
    However, at this point, when I open the .FM file that has the table, the cell styles have reverted to TOP.
    I've searched high-and-low for a similar issue. This is looking like a bug to me, but can someone confirm?
    Thanks

    (Perhaps the moderator should move this to the FrameMaker Integration discussion (under RoboHelp).
    I've determined the correct settings for my purposes, that being vertical alignment in a FM-to-RH integration project. I originally thought it was specifically a FrameMaker issue, though the solution also involves settings in RoboHelp. Here are my findings:
    1. For the selected FM table, note its Table Tag in the Table Designer (e.g., FormatA). This will be used later.
    2. If there is table Entry > Image element, then select the Image element, and set its placement attribute = inline.
    Though inline is supposed to be the default, I found it necessary to state explicitly in order to control alignment of image within a RH table cell.
    3. Moving on from FM, in the CSS file that you are using with your RH project, suppose that you have defined your table as follows. Note that I'm using "CenterMiddle" as the title.
    table.CenterMiddle {
      width: 100% ! important ;  /* This forces the RH table to autofit the window */
      text-align: Center;
      font-family: "Adobe Garamond Pro";
      border-left-style: Solid;
      border-left-width: 1px;
      border-left-color: #000000;
      border-right-style: Solid;
      border-right-width: 1px;
      border-right-color: #000000;
      border-top-style: Solid;
      border-top-width: 1px;
      border-top-color: #000000;
      border-bottom-style: Solid;
      border-bottom-width: 1px;
      border-bottom-color: #000000;
    .CenterMiddle td {
      vertical-align: middle ! important ;  /* This forces the individual cells to align vertically */
      border-color: #000000;
      border-style: solid;
      border-width: 1px;
    4. Go to the RH project to which the FM project is linked.
    5. Go File menu > Project Settings.
    6. In the FrameMaker Document group, click Edit.
    7. Under FrameMaker Settings, locate the Table style that you noted in step (1), and set it to the name of your table from (3).
    At this point, you can update all the FM components in your RH project, and compile the RH project to get the desired results. In my case, I needed both text and images in the table cells to have vertical alignment = middle.

    After looking at my problem in more detail, I can see that my complex renderers do impart a non-trivial drag on performance. I am looking into improving them, but I may only get so far, and the tables can be large.
    My typical table has ~3 row header columns, and dozens of data table columns. Tables containin 10,000 rows are not uncommon. Several columns may use a special 3rd-party chemical structure renderer which can take up to 75% of the overall rendering time when I scroll the table (I have looked at this under OptimizeIt). The rowHeader JTable will definitely contain one of these special renderers. Each column in the table has it's own TableCellRenderer instance.
    My problem is that under vertical scrolling, the rowHeader JTable tends to lag the main data JTable until the scrolling stops, and then it will catch up and align correctly.
    I can accept diminished vertical scrolling on the whole, because I am doing a lot of drawing into the table cells. I cannot accept this mis-alignment during vertical scrolling, however.
    Based on what I am seeing, I am under the impression that Java renders each JComponent individually to the offscreen buffer, then before going on to render the next JComponent, it will BitBLT the rerendered JComponent to the screen. This can explain why I see this lag. Is this indeed true, though?
    So, I need more info on understanding the intricacies of JTable rendering - I would be grateful for any assistance in this matter...
    thanks,

  • Getting List of Figures, List of Tables titles into main TOC

    I have a book (all in one file) with three TOCs: List of Tables, List of Figures, main Table of Contents. I want the TOC titles from List of Tables and List of Figures to show up in the main TOC. They don't.
    Does anyone know why? Do TOCs not pick up text from other TOCs?
    Ken

    If it's going to work, you'd need to make the lists for tables & figures first, and include the styles you used for the tiltles of those in the things to search for on the main TOC. I presume you did this?
    By first, you mean temporally, not spatially, right? In print order, Contents comes before List of Tables which comes before List of Figures. Yes, I'm pretty sure I set it up right, but I'm starting to think that TOCs just ignore other TOCs. Is that intended behavior?
    Sure, I'll just type in the two missing titles. I just wanted it to work automatically, because I know I'll probably have to generate a new TOC about a month from now and I probably won't remember to add those two titles again.

  • Dynamic Header row for table not aligned properly on 2nd Page

    Hello Friends,
    The problem is like this :
    We have a table with dynamic number of columns and few of them are being hidden at runtime based on a configuration table.
    Now problem while printing is that first page is printing the header row, but same is not being repeated on subsequent pages.
    Please see the layout
    Header row is warped in 2 subforms both are flowed - western text so that they will get squeezed if column is hidden
    Here are the properties for subforms
    1) overflowLeader => Flow top-bottom
    2) OF_SF => Flowed , western text
    On 2nd page all the columns are getting aligned to left hand side whereas printing fine on first page.
    Thanks,
    Nitin

    Hi Nitin,
    in this case, you must use more nested wrapper subforms and set the root subform layout from "flow" to "positioned". I cannot give advice on how the wrapper subforms are organized, since it depends on your logic, just try it out.
    Cheers,
    Tao

  • Table Cell Alignment

    Is it possible to establish default alignments for different cells in a table?  I have a table with 13 columns.  I would like to be able to set the default alignment to "center" in all columns but two.  I wish the second column to have a default alignment of "right" and the third column to have a default alignment of "left".  Then when I copy data from an excel spreadsheet into the table, I would like these alignments to be maintained.

    Can you do what you are asking easily, sure with CSS it's a fairly easy task.  Copying and pasting from Excel, this gets discussed very often and it's not a pretty process.  First because Excel does not Export HTML well at all, and XML exporting in Excel is not an easy task to set up, but once it's setup it can be a viable workflow.
    CSS Tutorial - http://www.w3schools.com/CSS/
    Basically you define a class or ID to your table and another class to text align left.  So you do something like this:
    CSS
    .center-text { text-align: center; }
    .left-text { text-align: left; }
    .right-text { text-align: right; }
    <table class="center-text"><tr><td> // that will center everything in the table.
    Then for the right align and left align just apply the respective class to the cell (this can also be done through properties window by using the drop-down menu to select the class).  If you are using XML or populating this information from a database can just run a loop to populate the data, and you can also use that same query to populate Excel for reporting if you wish to go that route.

    You would have to provide your own cell editor that is left-aligned, as well as the renderer.
