Tables and session scope

Im using session scope for my managed beans but Im looking for a way to use request scope instead. The bean constructors loads some tables from a remote system. I dont want to reload the tables on postback which is why I put the beans on session scope. How can I put the beans on request scope and have the tables survive a postback?
Alternatively is there any way to remove the beans individually from session scope once the "conversation" is over? Im using jsf 1.2. Btw im building hundres of pages so any solution that requires lots of custom code per page is a no go.

Use two beans; one request scoped, one view/session scoped. Inject the session scoped one into your request scoped one to have easy access to its data.

  • Pkg execution session id in all tables and Session Id of each interface

    Hi
    I am have one master package executing all interfaces for Staging and Target. Each staging interface loads the data from source to staging tables and target interface loads data from staging to Target. Each table has a column named ETL Batch Id and ETL Session Id. Our designer asked us to populate the ETL Batch Id with the Pkg execution id which will be same in all tables and also the ETL Session Id with the respective interface scenario execution session id which will be different in each table.
    Question: 1. What is the purpose and advantage of storing ETL Batch Id in each table?
    2. What is the purpose and advantage of storing ETL Session Id in each table?
    3. Do I need both? (1 and 2)
    BTW the ET design is for Star Schema (Data mart)
    Thanks

    This is really a question for your designer - there may be valid reasons why you'd want to store the session ID - maybe to help with break analysis or data quality monitoring. If you store the session ID in a table then you should be able to work out the "batch ID" by looking at the work repository/operator. But again, whether you "need" them is a question for your designer.
    ODI may update rows as well as insert, so there may be considerations there as to how you tell the difference.

  • Synchronizing session-scope objects?

              Hi,
              I have this problem, using Weblogic 5.1 SP8:
              In a JSP-file I use a java-object with the useBean-directive and
              session-scope.
              The problem occur when a user (for some strange reason) decides
              to double-click in his browser on a link pointing to this
              JSP-page.
              This makes the weblogic server start two separate request-threads to the same page
              in the same session. This will sometimes screw up tha data that the java-object holds
              since both threads at the same time uses the same object.
              The only solution that I have found is to put synchronized blocks in the JSP-file
              either synchronizing the java-object or the session-object.
              Does anyone have any similar problems or perhaps any opinions?
              regards/
              H Waller

              The problem we discussed (and fixed)was specifically in
              WLCS 3.2.
              If you are not using WLCS, you will not experience THAT problem.
              If you are using member servlet, member JSP variables or static
              variables, you will see a similar problem - don't.
              If it is data in the httpSession - you have to rethink your
              design.

  • Af:table requires the managed bean to be in session scope?

    I have let to figure out why af:table requires the managed bean to be in session scope if the af:table has the rows attribute set to anything else but zero.
    I'm assuming that in order for the table to hold on and "page" through the range of records that it is a requirement...
    Any details on how the under-pinnings really works, would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Todd,
    If you create a table model that you reference from an EL on the table's row variable then this should work with request scope as well. However, I think the problem you would run into is
    - performance because the values are getting fetched with every page load
    - state, because you would have to persist any change immediately to ensure the next query brings up the change values

  • Session scope variables and weird behaviour of AdfContext()

    Hello,
    what is the best method and correct API to create a session scope variable?
    I am currently using ADFContext().getCurrent().getSessionScope().get()/put(), but it looks like it has some problems: for some unkown reasons I loose the variable, that is get() returns null when called from a method of a (overridden)ViewRowImpl. Why does this happen?
    Thanks you in advance

    There are a couple of ways you can set values on a sessions scope but I would have to question if you really need a scope as high as session to accomplish what you want to do. At any rate, you should be able to store the value using the method you described but you could also try setting it using EL by using the setExpressionValue and resolveExpression methods in JSFUtils.java (you can find this in the latest fusion demo application). JSFUtils also has a getFromSession and storeOnSession that you could try.
    With all that said I don't think it is good practice to access scope variables from your model layer. You should write your method in the ViewRowImpl class to accept the value as a method parameter and then pass the value in through the binding layer or when invoking the method from your bean class.

  • Problem with ADF Faces; Bean (session scope) keeps Data after Session ends

    Hi,
    I have a project, which was transferred from an myFaces-project to an ADF Faces-project. Since i´am working with the ADF Faces the data in my beans (which are all in session-scope) won´t vanish after a logout.
    1) I have a method in one bean, which clears the user data (name and passwd), for example, but after a logout (redirecting to the login-page) I just have to push the loginbutton to get in the app. as the last user logged in. The bean is cleared, but where does the data come from. When the app was working with myFaces, this did not happen, the inputText and the inputHidden were empty.
    2) I have a af:table, which displays max ten lines. If the last user watched the elements 21 to 30 in that table, the next user who watches the table gets the same elements shown and not the elements 1 to 10. That shouldn´t happen in a different session.
    3) I have some listboxes in one page, where a user can make some decisions. If i logout and in again, i can see the decisions last made in these listboxes.
    All that happens with beans in session scope!
    Thanks for the replies (i hope) and excuse my bad english,
    Santiago

    Hi
    If this is the case , you can explicitly make all ur session data objects null.

  • Must command link parameter variable SESSION Scope??

    I add a EJB Session Bean Method to my page which returns an array:
    public Province[] getProvinces();
    When you place the Session Bean to the page, it automatically creates a REQUEST SCOPE VARIABLE called "provinceRemoteGetProvincesResultBean" in the type of Province array. And it automatically creates a Data Table to display the results.
    Up to this point every thing's cool!! I can call the method properly, get the results and display without any problem.
    However when I try to create a COMMAND LINK to one of the columns of the TABLE (e.g. Province has a NAME column) I have a problem:
    <h:commandLink styleClass="commandLink" id="lnkName" action="#{pc_ProvinceManagement.doLnkNameAction}">
    <h:outputText id="otxName" value="#{varprovinceRemoteGetProvincesResultBean.name}" styleClass="outputText">
    </h:outputText>
    <f:param name="provinceId" value="#varprovinceRemoteGetProvincesResultBean.id}"></f:param>
    </h:commandLink>
    The problem is that this "provinceRemoteGetProvincesResultBean" is REQUEST scope and Command Link does not work with REQUEST Scope variables!!!
    I had similar examples before, when I used the command link with a REQUEST SCOPE variable, it didn't work. When I use it with a SESSION Scope variable it works.
    In this particular case, I cannot make the Province[] a SESSION SCOPE variable, because it's not a class!!! Therefore I need to create a new class containing a Province[] and make that class a SESSION SCOPE variable, which makes things quite complicated!!
    IS IT TRUE THAT COMMAND LINK PARAMETERS MUST BE SESSION SCOPE?????

    Line 4: <f:param name="provinceId" value="#varprovinceRemoteGetProvincesResultBean.id}"></f:param>
    value="#varpro... >>> value="#{varpro...

    It depends on how you want to reprecate the session btwn instances or cluters
    there are three kinds File System, Memory to Memory, HA
    You can configure it from this property in the admin console

  • Request and session issues-how to remove a bean from a session

    Hi
    I am implementing copy and move functionality in my application. I need some info to complete that.
    The copy functionality is like this.....From a summary page which consists a Datatable and checkbox...
    I will select a checkbox beside as a copying reference..and click on next..
    In the next page I will get a copying reference bean and a drop down select list box consists of 1-10, I will select some value and click on next. then in the next page, I will get selected no of rows of that copying reference. then when I click on finsh , it will add into database...
    And the next page will open showing .....status of inserting into database..
    the action method I am calling is....
    public String saveCopyingRoutes()
    log.info( "Into saveCopyingRoutes method" );
    String returnStr = UIConstants.RETSTR_SUCCESS;
    // : Get all the rows
    // Read each row and insert each row into database under a particular
    // gateway end point.
    int numRows = table.getRows();
    log.debug( "no of rows-->" + numRows );
    for (int rowIndex=0;rowIndex<numRows;rowIndex++)
    log.debug("value of rowIndex-->"+rowIndex);
    RoutingEntry routingEntry = (RoutingEntry) FacesContext.getCurrentInstance()
    .getExternalContext().getSessionMap().get( "RoutingEntry" );
    try
    // -Need to query using RoutingEntryMgerImpl() class
    new RoutingEntryMgerImpl().addRoutingEntry( routingEntry );
    message = " Verifying Copy sheet " + rowIndex + ".....\n"+
    " Successfully verified datafill in copy sheet" rowIndex".....\n"+
    "Adding copy sheet "+rowIndex+"to the database...\n"
    + " Successfully added copy sheet" rowIndex"to database.....";
    messageList.add( message );
    log.debug("*********************"+messageList.size());
    log.debug("message----->"+message);
    log.debug("*********************");
    catch (NrsProvisionException pe)
    catch (Exception e)
    message = "Unsuccessfully added copy sheet "+rowIndex+"to the database";
    //Show the corresponding error....
    // Throwing generic exception ...?
    e.printStackTrace();
    log.info( "saveCopyingRoutes method return value: " + returnStr );
    return returnStr;
    now the bean is in session scope , let me know how to remove from the session, is there any better way to implement this functionality...

  • How to get a parameter from each request in a session scope BackingBean

    While calling my JSF page, I pass an id as parameter in the URL, and in the Backing bean I retrieve it from the request.
    On each request I need to get the id and populate the page accordingly.
    But I am forced to create my Backing Bean in session scope b'cos otherwise ValueChangeListener method does not work properly.
    So where and how do I get the id on each request?
    Pls. help

    What you can do is create it in the request scope like this:
    <managed-bean>
          <managed-bean-name>personBean</managed-bean-name>
          <managed-bean-class>
            com.PersonBean
          </managed-bean-class>
          <managed-bean-scope>request</managed-bean-scope>
           <managed-property>
                 <property-name>id</property-name>
                 <property-class>java.lang.Long</property-class>
              <value>#{param.id}</value>
          </managed-property>
    </managed-bean>And then in the page use a hidden field to set the id in case of a postback (validation error):
    <h:inputHidden id="id" value="#{personBean.id}"/>Does that help you?

  • Session scope managed bean is not instantiating?

    We have the need to use a session bean (rather than pageFlowScope) in our application.  But it looks like the session beans are not being instantiated at run time like other beans are.  I created a simple test case to verify.  One bean, named "MySessionBean", defined in the task flow as Session scope, then referenced in a view with an input text box, value:  #{sessionScope.MySessionBean.value1}. When I run the application,  I just get PropertyNotFoundException, Target Unreachable, 'MySessionBean' returned null.
    If I simply change the bean to use pageFlowScope, everything works fine.   I have debug code in the bean constructor, and it never gets called.   Is there some other step I am missing to have ADF instantiate the session bean?

    No luck, I tried it in both adfc-config.xml, and faces-config.xml.  I also tried moving the call to my view, from my bounded taskflow, into the adfc-config unbounded task flow, and then I ran that instead.  Still got the same error.    Here is my code from the the last round of tests with the view called in the main adfc-config.xml unbounded taskflow:
    adfc-config.xml:

  • Problem with beans in session scope

    Hello,
    I developped a website using JSP/Tomcat and I can't figure out how to fix this problem.
    I am using beans in session scope to know when a user is actualy logged in or not and to make some basic informations about him avaible to the pages. I then add those beans to an application scope bean that manages the users, letting me know how many are logged in, etc... I store the user beans in a Vector list.
    The problem is that the session beans never seem to be destroyed. I made a logout page which use <jsp:remove/> but all it does is to remove the bean from the scope and not actualy destroying it. I have to notify the application bean that the session is terminated so I manualy remove it from its vector list.
    But when a user just leave the site without using the logout option, it becomes a problem. Is there a way to actualy tell when a session bean is being destroyed ? I tried to check with my application bean if there are null beans in the list but it never happens, the user bean always stays in memory.
    Is there actualy a way for me to notify the application bean when the user quits the website without using the logout link ? Or is the whole design flawed ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Nicolas Jaccard

    I understand I could create a listener even with my current setup Correct, you configure listeners in web.xml and they are applicable to a whole web application irrespective of whether you use jsp or servlets or both. SessionListeners would fire when a session was created or when a session is about to be dropped.
    but I do not know how I could get a reference of the application bean in >question. Any hint ?From your earlier post, I understand that you add a UserBean to a session and then the UserBean to a vector stoed in application scope.
    Something like below,
    UserBean user = new UserBean();
    //set  bean in session scope.
    session.setAttribute("user", user);
    //add bean to a Vector stored in application scope.
    Vector v = (Vector)(getServletContext().getAttribute("userList"));
    v.add(user);If you have done it in the above fashion, you realize, dont you, that its the same object that's added to both the session and to the vector stored in application scope.
    So in your sessionDestroyed() method of your HttpSessionListener implementation,
    void sessionDestroyed(HttpSessionEvent event){
         //get a handle to the session
         HttpSession session = event.getSession();
          //get a handle to the user object
          UserBean user = (UserBean)session.getAttribute("user");
           //get a handle to the application object
          ServletContext ctx = session.getServletContext();
           //get a handle to the Vector storing the user objs in application scope
            Vector v = (Vector)ctx.getAttribute("userList");
           //now remove the object from the Vector passing in the reference to the object retrieved from the Session.
            v.removeElement(user);
    }That's it.
    Another approach would be to remove the User based on a unique identifier. Let's assume each User has a unique id (If your User has no such feature, you could still add one and set the user id to the session id that the user is associated with)
    void sessionDestroyed(HttpSessionEvent event){
         //get a handle to the session
         HttpSession session = event.getSession();
          //get a handle to the user object
          UserBean user = (UserBean)session.getAttribute("user");
           //get the unique id of the user object
           String id = user.getId();
           //get a handle to the application object
          ServletContext ctx = session.getServletContext();
           //get a handle to the Vector storing the user objs in application scope
            Vector v = (Vector)ctx.getAttribute("userList");
           //now iterate all user objects in the Vector
           for(Iterator itr = v.iterator(); itr.hasNext()) {
                   User user = (User)itr.next();
                    if(user.getId().equals(id)) {
                           //if user's id is same as id of user retrieved from session
                           //remove the object
                           itr.remove();
    }Hope that helps,
    ram.
