Tablespace temp grows too much
Hi gurus,
i´m using OBIEE 10.1.3.4 . When i´doing a select over a materialized view, the tablespace temp grows too much ( about 15GB).
The columns of the materialized view are functions.
The base tables of the Materialized View are big, thousands of MB.
Is it possible to configure the tablespace temp with OBIEE? and via SQL-PLUS?

you can do it with Oracle Enterprise Manager, that is much easier way. If you don't have access to OEM and has privileges to alter table space. the command is something like
alter tablespace ts_sth add datafile \etc\temp.dbf' size 4M autoextend on;

Tablespace name taking too much size
Hi all,
As I have posted alot threads regrading to get free space from a tablespace.
My problem is, we are using oracle 10g infrastructure and MT for messaging services.One of the tablespace name "IAS_META" is taking too much size and data in the table space is not valuable for us and i want to remove all the data. Please guide how can I do it and what will be the best procedure do it ASAP.

Tablespace resizing taking too much time
This is my database setup:
3 node rac on 32 bit linux (rh 4)
2 SANs (3gb + 2 gb)
current datafiles: 3.2T out of 5.0T (autoextend on)
before adding the second SAN, the resizing tablespace isn't bad (13s/gb)
now it is taking way too long:
this is how I do to resize the tablespace manually to test how long it takes:
alter tablespace my_tbs resize 3173562M; //from 3172538M (adding another 1gb)
And it took 33 minutes to complete.
Could someone tell me what is wrong? is it because the new SAN i put in or it is because now the tablespace is too big?
ps:: when i check the instance performing, the "SMON" user is like 97% of db activities

user626162when you set the tablespace to (autoextend on), what exactly oracle does in the background when it needs to extend the tablespace? does it do the "alter tablespace tbs_name resize"?

File Size Growing too much with every Save
I have designed a form that uses Giids with drop-down lists and also some Image Fields. When I am using the form and I save it the file size grows excessively with each save. If I add even one character to a sentence the file size may grow by as much as 500K or more. Saving a few times causes the file to become far to large to send by email. Any ideas what I need to try and fix, or is this just normal?
Nope, I have it unselected and it still grows by leaps and bounds. Any other ideas? Is there anyone I can send a form to who can work on it for a fee?

Resizing tablespace is taking too much time and freezing the database

there are 2 sans, one is 1.7T (one partition). the other san has 3 partitions with 1.1T each. I have only 1 datagroup
I used big file so there is only one big file for this tablespace. the size of the tablespace is 3.2T used with autoextend on (increment size is 1G)
this is the command I used to manually resize the tablespace:
alter tablespace my_table_space resize <3229923M>; //current size + 1G

Temp tablespace grow too big???
we have EBS R12.1 on LINUX X86_64 with ORACLE database version 11.1.0.7. every week we have temporary tablespace grow too big (> 32 GB) and out of extent.
Based on our research some some sql statement or report cause this issue. if we 'analyze stratistics", most time problem can fix. It cause us some time need run "analyze statistics" several times in one day.
Does anyone have solution for this?

Dear All
A technical colleague of mine is executing a procedure which selects data from two databases and inserts it into the third one. The procedure is not new and he has been executing the same since a year now.However in past two weeks the procedure is either consuming too much amount of time ( 3-4 hours as against 10-12 mins ) or it fails as it utilises more amount of temp space on the database on which insertions are made. In the temporary tablespace i added about 10gb more but it is still not suffice for the procedure to execute successfully.The sga for the database onto which insertion is done is 2560M and pga for the same is 2G.
Please suggest what is to be done as it is an extremely crucial procedure.

rdxdbaIf you have Diagnostic Pack licence try to use AWR to compare instance activity for this procedure execution. If not try to install Statspack.
I recommend also to use SQL trace to have trace data for a "good" execution and for a "bad" execution and to compare TKPROF output for related trace files.

SharePoint TempDB.mdf growing too large? I have to restart SQL Server all the time. Please help

On our DEV SharePoint farm > SQL server
The tempdb.mdf size grows too quickly and too much. I am tired of increasing the space and cannot do that anymore.
All the time I have to reboot the SQL server to get tempdb to normal size.
The Live farm is okay (with similar data) so it must be something wrong with our
DEV environment.
Any idea how to fix this please?

Have you put the databases in simple recovery mode? It's normal for dev environments to not have the required transaction log backups to keep the ldf files in check. That won't affect the tempdb but if you've got bigger issues then that might be a symptom.
Have you turned off autogrowth for the temp DB? -
SYSTEM tablespace is growing fast in 10g

Using 10.2.0.1.0 on Linux
My SYSTEM tablespace is growing much faster on 10g than it was on 9i, in 2 month it went from 350mb to 500mb, I don't to add more disk, incase there are issues with my database, I want to know why it is growing.
I have read docs on why SYSAUX grows on 10g but not SYSTEM.
SYSTEM size - 500 mb
Schema/size on System are:
SYS______455.8125 mb
SYSTEM______15.25 mb
OUTLN______0.5 mb
In this database I only have 1 very large schema that is 200 GB
Any ideas, reasons, shall I increase it 700mb?
In 9i my SYSTEM tablespace was very static.
Thanks for any help.Are you using Oracle's audit feature, either standard or FGA? If you were using standard auditing before moving to 10g check that the purge task is still running successfully.
Verify that no users have their temp tablespace set to system. If is still possible for this to happen on 10g.

Jaganwhat is the size of your temp tablespace?
Have another try, if the problem persists, increase the temp datafile size.
alter database tempfile <temp file name> resize <integer> M;
You can also add a new datafile.
ALTER TABLESPACE name ADD TEMPFILE 'filename.dbf' SIZE 10M;
You can always investigate and try to avoid too much sort by checking the SQL.

My application queries use too much temporary space and the tablespace don't get free after the operation, so I have to switch it frequently.
If I restart my database, the space is still used.
This is a 9i version and some other databases that I have installed do empty the space when the operation ends or when I shutdown the database.
What can be the difference so I can not empty my temprary tablespace?You don't really need to manually release the temp segments after they are being used. Oracle automatically handle the allocation and de-allocation of temporary segment as needed. If your temporary tablespace is full that means it's not big enough to server the need of all running sessions.
If you think running one of this query is bad, think about many users running this query at the same time. You really need to tune this query if it's taking unreasonable amount of temp space.
also run this query to find out temporary tablespace usage.
select sum( u.blocks * blk.block_size)/1024/1024 "Mb. in sort segments"

I've now installed the ad blocker, thrown away the unwanted files, and thrown away a copy of Firefox that Adware said had a problematic extension.
Things are better, but still slow.
Activity Monitor shows that with just Mail, Chrome and Excel running, 2.9GB of my 4GB RAM is used. Opening InDesign (always slow) increase that to 3.2GB. But the graph stays green.
Console shows several potential problems but I don't know if any are significant. In any case I will call my Mac store tomorrow to ask their advice about RAM.

Report taking too much time in the portal
Hi freiends,
we have developed a report on the ods,and we publish the same on the portal.
the problem is when the users are executing the report at the same time it is taking too much time.because of this the perfoemance is very poor.
is there any way to sort out this issue,like can we send the report to the individual user's mail id
so that they can not log in to the portal
or can we create the same report on the cube.
what could be the main difference if the report made on the cube or ods?
please help me

1. Use different parameters in ST03 to see the two important parameters aggregation ratio and records transferred to F/E to DB selected.
2. Use the program SAP_INFOCUBE_DESIGNS (Performance of BW infocubes) to see the aggregation ratio for the cube. If the cube does not appear in the list of this report, try to run RSRV checks on the cube and aggregates.
Go to SE38 > Run the program SAP_INFOCUBE_DESIGNS
It will shown dimension Vs Fact tables Size in percent.If you mean speed of queries on a cube as performance metric of cube,measure query runtime.
3. To check the performance of the aggregates,see the columns valuation and usage in aggregates.
Open the Aggregates...and observe VALUATION and USAGE columns.
"---" sign is the valuation of the aggregate. You can say -3 is the valuation of the aggregate design and usage. ++ means that its compression is good and access is also more (in effect, performance is good). If you check its compression ratio, it must be good. -- means the compression ratio is not so good and access is also not so good (performance is not so good).The more is the positives...more is useful the aggregate and more it satisfies the number of queries. The greater the number of minus signs, the worse the evaluation of the aggregate. The larger the number of plus signs, the better the evaluation of the aggregate.
if "-----" then it means it just an overhead. Aggregate can potentially be deleted and "+++++" means Aggregate is potentially very useful.
In valuation column,if there are more positive sign it means that the aggregate performance is good and it is useful to have this aggregate.But if it has more negative sign it means we need not better use that aggregate.
In usage column,we will come to know how far the aggregate has been used in query.
Thus we can check the performance of the aggregate.

4. Run your query in RSRT and run the query in the debug mode. Select "Display Aggregates Found" and "Do not use cache" in the debug mode. This will tell you if it hit any aggregates while running. If it does not show any aggregates, you might want to redesign your aggregates for the query.
Also your query performance can depend upon criteria and since you have given selection only on one infoprovider...just check if you are selecting huge amount of data in the report
Check for the query read mode in RSRT.(whether its A,X or H)..advisable read mode is X.
5. In BI 7 statistics need to be activated for ST03 and BI admin cockpit to work.
By implementing BW Statistics Business Content - you need to install, feed data and through ready made reports which for analysis.

use tool RSDDK_CHECK_AGGREGATE in se38 to check for the corrupt aggregates
If aggregates contain incorrect data, you must regenerate them.

You can find out whether an aggregate is usefull or useless you can find out through a proccess of checking the tables RSDDSTATAGGRDEF*
Run the query in RSRT with statistics execute and come back you will get STATUID... copy this and check in the table...
This gives you exactly which infoobjects it's hitting, if any one of the object is missing it's useless aggregate.

Hi everyone,
I have recently been using my macpro more and more for high-def video work. I usually leave it on 24 hours a day as at night I set up a batch of files in compressor to run over night. Essentially, all my CPUs are maxed almost all the time. I am wondering if this could become a problem? I have read a little about average loads but don't fully understand what they mean. Mine are: 8.60, 7.58 and 7.42 and I am getting pretty high temps on my CPUs, power supplies and hard drives (about 44C, 54C and 39C average respectively). Am I pushing this thing too hard? How much is too much? Please see my system specs below.

~ PhilipDon't let the drives get to 70C! they can take 50C safely. Memory and graphics are more of a concern. The cpu will protect itself.
smcFanControl can insure that your fans stay above the default minimums, which is worth taking a look at (freeware).
Fluctuation in temps between extremes can stress a hard drive and memory.
