There is no data in the partitioned tablespace?
I am creating a new partition table like this:
create table PART_TABLE
eid number(10),
ename varchar2(30),
hiredate date,
jdate date,
pdate date
nologging
parallel
partition by range(hiredate)
partition par_new1 values less than
(to_date('01-JAN-2009','DD-MON-YYYY'))
tablespace PART_MOHAN,
partition par_new2 values less than
(to_date('01-JAN-2010','DD-MON-YYYY'))
tablespace PART_MOHAN2
Now,there is no data in the Partitioned table.
Now, i am inserting rows into the table.
But, rows are inserting into the table not in the partition tablespaces.
I checked the used space and free space of tablespaces, there is no change in size after inserting the row also.
But, when i check the table, rows have inserted into the table.
But, i dont know , in which tablespace these data are stored. How to find out that?
SQL> INSERT INTO part_table values(1,'MohanaKr','01-JAN-2008','01-JAN-2009','01-JAN-2009');

NEW REPOSITORY INSTALLATION ERROR!!
I want to install a new Repository using Oracle9iR9.2.0.1 and iDS10g on windowsXP Professional the same machine.
After running all the SQL scripts ( ckqa, ckvalqa, ckcreate, ckreport) with success to installing a new Repository on my Database using "the Scripts Method",I start the Repository Administration Utility( RAU) to scheck the priveleges and so on.
After pressing the Install button in the RAU:

-I scheck the box for "Support Designer Objects", then
-The Repository size is Medium
-I have not change the defauft Tablespace of the Repository_Manager names TEMPORARY_TABLES to store the index and table of System Data....Diagram Data.

ACTION: Use ALTER TABLESPACE ADD DATAFILE to add additional space to the tablespace or retry with a smaller Value for initial.
I then try to resolve it by schecking and changing the Values of INITIAL_VALUE and NEXT_VALUE in the ckparams.txt to 500k.I change the Values of TEMPORARY_TABLES(10214 to 51200k) and TEMPORARY_INDEXES from (20000 to 100000k).Then I run the scripts @ckparams.txt, @ckvalqa, @ckcreate but
-pressing the Scheck Privileges Button on the RAU still give me 106k for the INITIAL_ and NEXT_VALUE.
-And the installato still stop with the same Error.
Question: How schould I resolve this Configuration?
You could respond in ENGLICH, GERMAN or FRENCH
Thank you for your Help! You are running into database errors. You should refer to the database documentation on how to adjust the size your tablespaces. The online Designer installation guide will advise you as to the sizes of tablespaces you require. Index on Partitioned Table with Some ReadOnly Tablespaces
We have a warehouse with fact tables range partitioned on date - daily partitions with each month worth of partitions put into a specific monthly tablespace. Each month, we set the prior month's tablespace to READONLY. So our table ends up having data in readonly and read-write tablespaces.
We now have a change we need to make to one of the fact tables - we need to add a new column AND add an index to that column. But because we have partitions in readonly state, Oracle doesn't let us create the index and it also doesn't let us update the local unique key (unique index).
Is there a way we can do this without having to put the tablespaces in read-write mode? As importantly, what happens when we offline or drop some of the older tablespaces (for archiving purposes)? We need to find a way to add the index on just the read-write partitions.

Thanks.Hi,
Improvements in Oracle 10g to maintain local-partitioned indexes when you use partition DDL commands:
add partition, split partition, merge partiton, move partition.
ALSO, the associated indexes NO LONGER have to be stored on the same tablespace as the table (i.e. answer to your question).
On Oracle 9i: Local indexes are recommended on data warehouse platforms. In an OLTP system, global indexes are more common. On a data data warehouse, problems can be isoloted to one partition, the partitions moved, made r/o (like yours), no local indexes need to be rebuilt
Regarding your issue:
We now have a change we need to make to one of the
fact tables - we need to add a new column AND add an
index to that columnTo maintain the simplicity + functionality of your DW configuration, I think you need to change the TS to R/W, update the objects, then alter to R/O.

Backing up and restoring tablespaces with RMAN
We have some tables that we want to backup and other tables that we don't.
We are separating these tables by tablespaces and schema.
SchemaA uses tablespaceA
SchemaB uses tablespacesB
We are also backing up
sys
sysaux
undo
tablespaces.
Lets say we lose our tablespaces and do a restore. I am assuming that all my stored procedures can be restored no matter which schema I save them in. even if I save them in a schema that has a default tablespace that is not being backed up because the code in is in the System tablespace.
Is my assumption correct? Here the key concept is Mean Time To Recover(MTTR), usually it is faster and easier to use an export backup file for this purpose, but this doesn't mean RMAN is bad :) RMAN was, is and will be the best practice for Oracle's B&R.
Still you may assist your RMAN backup with a daily norows export backup and also maybe a file system backup depending on your environment and application's need. Backup's backup do not harm :) -
Adding data file to the existing tablespace given wrong format file name
Hi
while adding the data file existing tablespace. i given wrong format '/dev/oracle/data/user_data_02' i miss the .dbf extension for this data file.
Alter tablespace ts2 add datafile '/dev/oracle/data/user_data_02' size 200m
the data file was created.
So i want to know. What will happen if the data file is wrong format?
Thanks in advanceit doesnt matter what you name the file. oracle will be able to use it. if you need to change the name to meet your naming conventions, then you will need to take the db down and rename the file at the OS level and then startup mount to rename the file at the DB level.
why are you puting files in /dev? Thats for devices. -
Data Guard adding new data files to a tablespace.
In the past, if you were manually updating an Oracle physical standby database there were issues with adding a data file to a tablespace. It was suggested that the data file should be created small and then the small physical file copied to the standby database. Once the small data file was in place it would be resized on the primary database then the repication would change the size on the standby.
My question is, does Data Guard take care of this automaticlly for a physical standby? I can't find any specific reference on how it handles a new datafile.Never mind, I found the answer.
STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT=auto
Set on the standby database will create the datafiles. -
How to release space of SYSAUX tablespace
Hi,
I am now using htmldb 2.0 and created tens of tables in one schema. Several tables are stored in tablespace SYSAUX. Since now I am trying to store a big file to the table(1GB), I found the tablespace grows pretty fast and I have to extend the size. The odd thing is when I delete that file from my table, SYSAUX tablespace seems not release any room and when I insert the big file again into the table, SYSAUX grows again. How can I release the space then? I can't image that why it can't release any room. I also check the occupants of SYSAUX and found one occupant called "other" takes over 90% of space. I tried to move it out of SYSAUX, it doesn't work. What do "other" do actually? I got completely lost. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Amount of temporary tablespace size used for index rebuild
Hi All,
I want to know approximate amount of temporary tablespace size used for index rebuild. I need this information to avoid the insufficient temporary tablespace error during the huge index rebuild.
Is there a query or procedure to find it out.
Thank you.Hi,
While creating the index, the temporary segment is created in the permanent tablespace. So permanent tablespace must have sufficient space.

Performance problem - Tablespace Free Space
Hi,
Version 10204
I am running the following statment in order to monitor tablespace free space.
There are some tablespaces that i am not interesting to monitor , and i also whant to be alert
only when less than 4 GB left in the tablespace.
I build the following statment.
Using the hint : /*+ NO_CPU_COSTING */ gave me the best performance but there are alot of time
that its took to this statment few minute to run befor it finished.
Could one help to improve its performance ?
Please note that it performe even less good when i used the RULE hint or not using hint at all.

I am running the following statment in order to monitor tablespace free space.
There are some tablespaces that i am not interesting to monitor , and i also whant to be alert
only when less than 4 GB left in the tablespace.
And just adding to Dan's reply, if you are on 10g as you mentioned, why not to use the built in Alert mechanism to monitor and get alerts about the tablespace usage using the GC or Database Console than creating a home grown solution like the one you have posted?

Generating traffic report of a tablespace or schema
Hello together,
at an Oracle 11gR2 (11.2.0.3.0) Enterprise Edition (fully licensed) with RHEL 6 as OS I'm trying to generate a statistic, that shows me a weekly or monthly report over the traffic on a tablespace or a schema.
Until now, I've worked with the HIST_VIEW dba_hist_tbspc_space_usage (I mean there is also one nearly called so for schema), but that view show me only the grow of a tablespace in a timeline of 1 week. But that would not be the hole traffic. Because SELECT statements will nothing do on the grow of the tablespace but it generates traffic.
In that case it wouldn't be so important, if it is more tablespace or schema sided because at this database each tablespace has it's own schema and timeline would be nice if it is weekly or monthly.
Does somebody of you know a way to generate such a report? I know I could do with some tcp_dump, but i would also see if there is also any Oracle database way.
Thanks and regards,
DavidThanks for your answer Justin!
That is what i meant with fully licensed. Performance and tuning pack is on board.
Directly, I can try the view tomorrow, I'm not at work right now.
But it sounded not like that what I'm searching for. Normally traffic should be something in MB or GB I think.
Better would be to describe, for whgat I need that: my company want's to "outsource" our dedicated server to an IAAS provider. To calculate the cost they need informatioin about:
The complete size of DB
Size of each schema / tablespace
And the traffic, because traffic generate extra cost
Traffic in this case doesn't mean only the shrink and grow of a schema or a tablespace (insert, update, delete) it also means the read out of data in the database by select or merge or something like that.
So the shrink and grow I'm able to calculate them by dba_hist_tbspc_space_usage by getting the size of a tablespace each hour and make an addition of the changes of the size. But here I can't see the traffic that is generating by everything else? And you mean, that can I do with DBA_HIST_SEG_STAT?

Error in Phase Deleting Substitution Tablespaces - (Follow Up Activities)
Hello,
I have the following problem after finish upgrade 4.7 for ECC6 SR3 AIX-DB2 9.5

I deleted the tablespaces PRD#EL620D and PRD#EL620I with sucess, but when I try delete the tablespace PRD#ES620D, the following error appear :
$ db2 drop tablespace PRD#ES620D
DB21034E The command was processed as an SQL statement because it was not a
valid Command Line Processor command. During SQL processing it returned:
SQL0282N Table space "PRD#ES620D" cannot be dropped because at least one of
the tables in it, "SAPPRD.BCACT", has one or more of its parts in another

How can I resolve this problem ?
best regardsDear Emerson,
Can you check your list of tables if they are all listed in OSS note 674070.
From reading you message it sounds like you situation is covered by section 4.
Can I ask you to please follow the instructions in attached note 674070?

The error only occurs with databases that use different containers
(tablespaces, DBSpaces, and so on) for saving data. Caution: The report
described in this note is only implemented for the Oracle, Informix and
DB2 UDB for UNIX and Windows databases. It is not required for other
databases.
Solution
1. Download the attached SAR archive ("Attachments" tab) and use the
relevant SAPCAR to unpack it to your transport directory.
2. Then import the transport B20K8A1ZZI into your system. This contains
the report RSCHECKEXC.
Caution: To import the transport, you need an R3trans version dating
from at least 18.8.05.
3. Call transaction SE38 and execute the "RSCHECKEXC" report directly.
The report output is attached to the log file
<DIR_TRANS>/tmp/RSCHKEXC.<SID>.
The various possible uses for the report are explained below:
4. You have performed the release upgrade and notice the symptom
described above: The old substitution containers are not empty.
Solution: Use database tools to generate a list of tables that are
in the old substitution container and save this list in a text file
(one table name on each row). Copy this file to the application
server on which you call the RSCHECKEXC report.
When you call the report, enter the absolute file name in the
"TABFILE" field and execute the report.
As described above, you can now select the MODE="" (check only),
MODE="DRCR" (recreate empty tables) and MODE="ICNV" (add tables wit
contents to the ICNV) options.
Unlike before, where the report selects all of the tables that have
one substitution table type, the report now works on the list of
tables from the file.
After you have successfully implemented this note, the old exchange
container (PSAP<SID>620) should be empty. Use database tools to confirm
that this is the case.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I believe that this note will resolve your issue.
Abhishek
