Tablet fails boot, red light, then blinking green....GRRR!!

Just as my tablet recieved the OS update, it no longer booted.
It was fully charged, and plugged into a standard micro USB at the time.
It said download was successful, restart now... so I did.
And I never could use it again.
When I tried to boot it, it had a red light, then the red light blinked a few times, then nothing.
And then, it blinked green six times. then nothing.
I tried a USB to my computer to use Blackberry Manager (latest version).
I tried of course, the various holding down the power button schemes, including the old one of holding down ALL the keys, and the new one with just the power and forward keys.  Nothing.
I went on EBAY to get an OEM charger stand.  I hope that works, but I don't have much hope for that.
And now, nothing.  My blackberry is a brick after the update.
I came to like blackberry because of the reliability of the phone.  While all of my iphone friends were crazy about tech support of apple, I replied, I don't need tech support with my blackberry (curve) nothing ever goes wrong.
But this whole situation, is getting me down.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Connect it to the OEM wall outlet charger.
Press and hold down the power key ONLY for 20 seconds.

  • Red light stops blinking and then stays solid

This one is strange. I open an email on my BB and the red light stops blinking and then stays solid for about 5 minutes. It doesnt go off when I close the email either.
Took the battery out to see if that would clear it but it still doing it.
    Any thoughts ?????

    Hi Willsie,
Sounds like when the red light is solid, the device is still usable? Assuming this is correct, I have three questions for you:
    1. Can you you confirm this problem ONLY happens when you open up emails in the Messages application?
    2. Can you tell us the application version you are running from (OPTIONS > ABOUT)?
    3. Also, which third party applications do you have installed?
    tnx

  • Red solid then blinking light and dead unit

hi, this is my 1st blackberry, I have had the 8330 from verizon for a month and a half, the unit completely died on me with no warning, i just received a call, then it went completely black, and the red light started blinking, 4 quick blinks then a pause, I tried to reboot, taking the battery out and restarting but nothing, after puting the battery back in the light stayed red till I tried to power up then it went into the ame 4 blink pattern, never powered up, just a dead unit, I have been extremly careful with this unit, never droped, alwas stored in the original case, does this usually happen with the 8330? does anybody have a clue what may have caused this? or has it happened to anyone else? I spoke to verizon and after a half hour and taking it to the store to confirm that it dosent work, they are sending me a new refurbished unit, I am afraid that this may happen again, any thoughts? Help, thanks

  • Red light keeps blinking

I recently purchased the new 1gb i pod shuffle. the problem is that i left it plugged in to my computer to charge but when i safely removed it, the i pod shuffle went really hot and ten minutes later the red light started blinking and so i don't know what is wrong with it

My question is not necessarily that there is a red
light, but a series of green and orange flashing
light, followed by no sound of any sort. I've
upgraded the ipod and tried to down load new songs
and it simply won't play them. That is when it
    flashes green and orange dots.
Alternating green and orange means no playable content (ERROR: No music loaded). Alternating green and two orange (10 seconds) means ERROR: iPod shuffle must be restored
Which are you experiencing? If the first, then you need to select one of the songs and click on File>Get Info>Summary and let us know what it says.

  • Blackberry Does not Function, Plugged into USB red light then 3 yellow lights and off

Blackberry Does not Function, Plugged into USB red light then 3 yellow lights and off, I cannot even claim the warrently without buying 50$ support?
I am an Electrical Engineer by trade and have 15+ years working with computers. I left it to charge over the last 3 days. Doesn't do anything. It's a $300 paper weight. My mother bought this product for me because she thought it was a great present but now it turns out to being worthless.
What kind of company are you? Honestly?
How the hell do you think your gonna get customer loyalty with this kind of customer service. It's clearly obvious why apple is destroying you. You are worthless competition. I want this blackberry fixed. I will NOT pay for support just to replace my blackberry. That is crooked business honestly. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
My mom bought this for my birthday 4 months ago. I open it up and it doesn't even work. How can you do this to your customers. It's no wonder your company is going out of business.
I demand you fix my issue. I have 1 year of warranty support. I will NOT pay extra just to get my Blackberry exchanged.
Wait until I inform all my news groups in my area of this. I am from ONTARIO, BRAMPTON. I am a CANADIAN, just like your company. CP24 WILL HEAR ABOUT THIS. I WILL RUIN YOUR REPUTATION. I PROMISE YOU THAT.

One of my PlayBooks recently went 'possum on me, too. Very frustrated, tried all the known tricks and tips to charge and revive it. Over a year old. I called the support line knowing it was out of date and they would deny me.
Nope, the lady very pleasantly accepted my request, I spoke with customer support and they bugged me via email daily until we got it resolved -- to MY satisfaction. My first interaction with PlayBook support, and it could not have gone more nicely nor further beyond my expectation.
I don't know what you experienced with PlayBook support, you didn't say why you're so mad with them. This is a user-to-user community support forum. We are not RIM employees, but volunteers who enjoy assisting other users. RIM personnel rarely comment on queries posted here. You would have noticed this in the EULA and message upon registration.
Sooo... good luck, and just for the record... the LED activity you described IS very fixable. Sorry you don't have the choice to explore those remedies any longer.

  • Blackberry 8220 Flip phone gives red light, then shows clock and repeats...... forever....!

Hi I have a blackberry pearl 8220 flip that's bricked. It goes from a long red light to the clock loading screen and continues until by battery is dead.
I have tried reloading the current OS available (v4.6.0.174) through the latest blackberry desktop manager several times, and I did select the options to completely wipe all data on the pearl. I got the desktop manager to detect the phone by taking out the battery at first, and then putting it in. The reload worked properly, everything got wiped off and the os was reinstalled. It worked for a couple of hours, but the problem pops up again. I've even tried reloading an older os (4.5) but it doesn't work either.
    Please help...

Hmmm...OK, then you might need to completely wipe it out first and then reload the OS...see this:
    http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-wipe-jl_cmder-53502/
If that fails, then you are probably ready for warranty support -- from your carrier.
    Good luck!

  • ZyXel Prestige 861 Modem - vDSL Lights Flashing/Blinking Green

    Hi All,
The internet used to work, but now it's just flashing/blinking green. Hence the internet has gone down, and I can't figure where is the problem.
I live in a apartment (23 Floors), and the modem is setup this way:
Telephone Cable => Modem => Ethernet Cable => Router
I changed the telephone cable a few times, and even switched to a different jack that used to work (I moved the modem from the living room to the bedroom 2 years ago).
But it is still flashing/blinking green on the vDSL lights.
Also it seems like nobody had any issues with their Verizon services, could it be a hardware issue that the 5 year old ZyXel Presitage 861 modem has broken down?
Is it possible to switch to another modem, for example, Actiontec GT701D Ethernet DSL Modem?
    Thanks all

Well, I thought in the meantime while the network is down (tech is arriving tomorrow), why don't I try to debug the problem myself?
I've tested that the phone line itself works, but I don't know about the jack.
The ONT works too (The Verizon Phone Support said that ONT looks fine), so... It's some physical connection between the basement and my apartment (located 23rd floors high). I've tried all the jacks in my house, which they used to work when I was deciding the best place to put my modem and wireless router).
So it's either the modem, or the physical wiring is broken. So why not try a quick fix?
Anyways, if it's somewhere of the wiring, and also extremely difficult to fix it, I guess I need to find another apartment.

  • Storm wont boot - red light flashes

    Hi,
I was having a problem with incoming SMS msgs on my BB Storm - couldn't see folder with JavaNullPointerException error.
Researching forums indicated a os upgrade was best solution (was running 4.7.0.148).
Went to Telstra (Aus) site to download, but they don't support BB Storm (I unlocked device from Vodaphone Aus to Telstra Aus to retain network coverage).
Went to Vodaphone site and downloaded latest version for Storm (5.0.0.1643 - I think).
Installed and now device won't boot.   I just have a blank screen, no icons or battery pictures and I get the following sequence of red flashes on LED.   Long flash, short pause, 4x short flashes, long pause.
Blackberry desktop software no longer recognizes the device - previously did.
Device Manager in Windows 7 also does not recognize the device when connected - previously did.
I'm at a loss what to do next......?
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
    2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
You may also want to investigate the use of BBSAK (bbsak.org) to perform the wipe it is capable of.
You may also want to try the "Bare Bones OS Reload Procedure" to attempt to narrow down the precise causal item:
Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents
When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.
If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.
If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.
You may also need the use of these tricks:

KB27956 How to recover a BlackBerry smartphone from any state
    http://crackberry.com/blackberry-101-lecture-12-how-reload-operating-system-nuked-blackberry
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software
Good luck and let us know!

    Hi Chris,
Sounds like lightning/brownout had it's way with your box.  If you can't ping or factory reset to recover, your only option is to contact the Cisco Small Business Support center to see what your hardware replacement options are, if any.

  • Blackberry Notebook -- Red light STEADY, Green light BLINKS 5 TIMES, wont come on

Ive charged my Playbook for 30 minutes via computer. I tried cutting on the tablet and the red light came on STEADY, then the GREEN LIGHT BLINKED 5 times. It would not power on. I also tried cutting it on while plugged in and the same thing occured. I have tried resetting it by holding the + and - sign for 20 secs and no success. I bought the playbook from Radio Shack NEW in February.  Any suggestions?

You can Try this and let us know wich solution works...
If your battery is dead or near dead, you have a problem. If you follow these instructions you may be able to make a recovery but it will take some time.
The charger is controlled by software. The software will not run because the battery voltage is too low. When the battery is too low and you turn on the PB, It will only run for about 4 minutes and then shut down again. During this 4 minutes, the charger will begin charging but since the battery voltage is still too low, the unit will shut down again and the charger will shut off.
To get the voltage up sufficiently for the PB To continue, you have to have the charger plugged in and every 5 minutes or so, you have to hold the power button on until the red light flashes then release it.It will once again recharge for 4 minutes. You may have to repeat these steps at least 10 times. Once the voltage gets up a bit, the charger should stay on but it will takes 6 hours to fully recharge the battery. When your charger is charging, it will feel warm to the touch so check it often to see if it is in fact charging.
