Tablet Mode stuck in a loop

I just installed the Technical Preview (build 10041) on my Asus Vivo Tab Note 8, but after enabling tablet mode and resuming from sleep the computer has become unusable, it looks like it's stuck in a loop enabling, then disabling tablet mode, even after
restarting the machine it starts happening again straight after logging in.
Here's a video showing what's going on:
https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=2cd58d1f09ca931d!184023&authkey=!AGVt6U6kaiwNwUw&ithint=video%2cmp4
I can get the Task Manager with the keyboard shortcut, or Run box, so can open the Command Promt and so on. But it doesn't let me open the Notification Pane, or Settings, or even open the Start Menu.
Is there any way to disable tablet mode from the command prompt, or anything else I can do?

can see the process ID for explorer.exe constantly changing in task manager as well.
If it is crashing then it would be losing all state information, so you couldn't do what I suggested about stepping through it using keystrokes.  Can you confirm that it is crashing using Event Viewer or Reliability Monitor?
So perhaps a better tack would be to figure out how to disable the automatic recovery that is apparently happening.  Then you could restart explorer.exe elevated using Task Manager.  However, I'm not sure if the Settings page would still open
then.  TBD.
Is there a Registry key I can edit I wonder?
Good idea.  I could try using ProcMon to see what changes when I switch modes.  I haven't loaded ProcMon on this VM yet so that will be a good thing to do anyway.  Even better than "editing the registry" though would be to find out
if PowerShell knows anything about this.  Of course it could substitute as our regedit.exe anyway.
Otherwise, I wonder if "Tablet mode" works any differently in Portrait orientation?   <eg>
A related test:  use Magnifier in its Fullscreen view.  Win++  Ctrl+Alt+F  and enable full tracking.  (Win+Esc exits Magnifier.)

  • IPhone 4 (and others) update to IOS 6 leads to restore mode stuck on a loop: Solution

Hello everybody .. I have had this issue since yesterday afternoon.. Some people are saying to keep restoring again and again until it finally goes through.. I have done so like 10 times on my MAC and then I used my husband's PC and tried it 4 times.. No success.. I called apple support, but no help came from there at the end, and the only thing they were able to suggest to me is to sell me a new phone just like mine for a discounted price..
Anyways after about 18h of search and stress I came across this link:
    http://techglobex.blogspot.com/2012/06/downgrade-from-ios-6-beta-firmware-to.htm l
That will only make it possibe to go backward.. You will end up back with the IOS 5, but at least you will have a working phone and it will bring back all your contacts and everything else that you ever had backed up on icloud and on your computer. There might be descripencies with the Applications but again this is an issue easily solved, you can always download them back.
Two more things: One, you do not have to download the old version of the itunes, the newest version worked for me without any issues
When choosing to download the older IOS 5.1.1, you will need to figure out whether your carrier is GSM or CDMA but you can easily google this info online..
Well hope that will work for you like it did for me

    Hello jaideniv,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
First I would recommend this article named Can't connect to the iTunes Store found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368. It will get you started with troubleshooting iTunes Store connection issues on the computer and the phone.
If needed there is a more advanced article named iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3297 that I would next recommend.
    Take care,

  • Yoga 2 13 stuck in tablet mode

    Hello,
I just received a new Yoga 2 13, 8Gb, 256Gb SSD. I have been using it exclusively as a laptop.
It worked just fine for a few days. I did notice once the screen flipped sideways and the keyboard turned off randomly but after turning the laptop on its side and back, everything went back to normal.
Today, after closing the lid and putting the machine to sleep, then waking it up, it awoke in tablet mode with the sideways screen and turned off keyboard. To do anything I have to use the on-screen keyboard, which does work.
Nothing I did could get it to go back to laptop mode, or for autorotate to ever work. Rebooted several times, no. The "Lenovo" signage does show correctly in landscape as soon as the machine turns on, but once it gets to the login window, it's back to sideways tablet mode.
The auto-rotate button (which I had never touched prior) doesn't appear to do anything. I click the button, it says "autorotate off" then I click it again to "autorotate on" and still no rotation.
I called Lenovo technical support, and he tried (after remote desktoping into my machine) to try a different display driver. The Windows "Basic" Driver, the Intel Driver from March 2014, and the latest Lenovo display drivers downloaded did nothing.
He turned off "ycp" or something similar as a startup service, no help.
In Screen Resolution, he changed the orientation of the display from portrait to landscape which did fix the orientation problem but did nothing about the keyboad. I assume this is a brute force solution which does not fix the underlying "endless tablet mode" issue.
Finally, he had me boot into the BIOS. Interestingly, the keyboard works just fine in the BIOS screen, and the orientation is the correct landscape. WHAT?!!
But bottom line, tech support failed to find a fix for the problem. Can I ask any of you for some additional ideas?
    Thank you so much!

I got lucky after multiple times of trying. It is back on Sync'ing.

  • Ipad will not charge. Stuck in reboot loop.

    Hello,
I have an iPad with retina display, 32gb, AT&T.
A few days ago the iPad was left over night with about a 45% charge. The next morning the iPad battery was dead. I plugged it into the wall charger and left for the day. When I came home it still wasn't showing a charge. It seems to want to reboot, but it's stuck in a loop between thowing the red battery and the apple logo, then my home screen picture flashes and it goes back to the red battery. The iPad has been plugged in tthe entire time.
    Thanks in advance,
    Linvel

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • How to recover ALOM Main Flash (ReFlash EPROM) ? -- ALOM stuck in a loop

    Hello,
I had an issue while flashing the ALOM Main Flash of a Sun Fire v210.
Now the ALOM boot is stuck in a loop trying to load the main ALOM image.
As a result the ALOM Main Flash is broken but I can still access the
ALOM Boot Menu. I can also boot Solaris with the Jumper on FP2 or FP3
but it does not recognize the SC anymore.
Is there a way to recover it from Solaris and/or using the
"f - Wait for flash download from host" from ALOM boot menu ?

I don't have any additional advice to offer other than asking that you to try the flash-update all over again,
one more time, as if it were the beginning again.Yes but how because the SC is not discovered anymore by Solaris :
    "rmclomv: WARNING: DP_GET_SDP_VERSION failed, ret=4"
"The SC hardware could not be initialized."
Can you try to flash the mainalomfw ? Your log contained only the flash of the alombootfw !
    /usr/platform/`uname -i`/sbin/scadm download alommainfw
I guess jumper JP2 allows to recover from a failed flash by selecting the un-touched half the PROM.It does not work as the SC is not responding anymore to Solaris

    It's a pitty that obtaining OBP/ALOM updates requires a service contract. I got a V210 recently.
Unfortunately both OBP and ALOM are the intial release 4.8.2 / 1.0.I agree but it's probably also because you need support in case it fails ;-)
    Thanks for your answers!

  • Two "cursors" when in tablet mode

    X61 tablet, Windows 7, RC1, 64 bit. , pdfannotator, onenote, office
When using the the tablet in tablet mode (screen folded down), I often will get two cursors on the screen when the pen is near or on it.  This happens in various application software, but usually begins after using the eraser, or the flyout keyboard and tablet input menu.
The extra cursor appears above, and to the right of the actual cursor. Actual cursor being a pen tip "dot" while the extra cursor is a random symbol, ranging from another offset dot, to a very dark right click ring, to a very dark hourglass, to an i-beam shaped bar.  It happens immediately when using grahl's pdf annotator, but has showed up in other programs as well including onenote, after using the flyout input panel in word, and a number of other programs.
I'm certain it has something to do with the tablet multitouch drivers, escpecially since the drivers for 7 seem to be a wacom dual-touch driver not designed specifically for the X61.  Anyone else run into this trouble and come across a solution?

This is what Microsoft Support told me to do, and it worked, but I am stuck with a boring standard mouse cursor in Windows (no special Tablet PC cursors - for right click, etc.)
    Step 1:
    1. Open Local Group Policy Editor:Run... gpedit.msc
    2. Navigate to User Configuration - Administrative Templates - Windows Components - Tablet PC - Cursors
    3. Enable the Turn off pen feedback setting.
    Step 2:
Go to Control Panel. Double click on Mouse. Find "Mouse Properties"
Go to "Pointer Options". Put a check mark in the "Display Pointer trails"
Slide the bar over to "short". Apply the changes and then restart PDF Annotator.
I'm awaiting Microsoft's reply as to whether there is some way to keep my original cursors without having the PDF Annotator problem.

  • IPhone 4s stuck in recovery loop and is not detected in iTunes?

Earlier today i plugged my phone into my computer. I didn't transfer any files when i plugged it into itunes. I then backed up my phone, and decided to update it to 6.1.4. My computer took a couple of minutes to download it and then it was applying the update. My phone's screen went black during the process. Then iTunes gave me an error message saying that my phone could not be updated. So i try to turn on my phone and the apple logo appears and a couple of seconds later it shows the usb cable connecting to itunes. I've tried rebooting and putting it into DFU mode but nothing works. iTunes wont recognize it as a device needing to be restored. iTunes wont detect my phone at all and its stuck in a loop. I have tried everything and it wont work.

Was the phone jailbroken or hacked?  That will do it especially if DFU mode doesn't work.

My ipod nano 7th gen is stuck on a loop of turning on and off, I've already done the reset, and everything that was recommended on other similar questions.  it isn't recognized by iTunes except in recovery mode where it allows me to restore but then goes right back to turning on and off once i'm back to normal play mode.  Once on recovery mode it works fine and doesn't turn on and off.  I've also uninstalled and reinstalled itunes to avail.  I'm super frustrated and am hoping that I won't need to buy a new one.  Is there anything else I can do before i just toss it out?  i'm getting a bit frustrated just watching my ipod turn on to the apple and then turn right back off.

    Hi there tksunrise,
You may find the troubleshooting steps in the article below helpful.
iPod nano (7th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4433
Will not turn on or screen remains dark
Connect iPod to power for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has enough charge to allow iPod to turn on.
If iPod does not turn on after ten minutes, try resetting it while it is still connected to power. Reset the iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least six seconds or until you see the Apple logo appear.
If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
If the screen remains dark and will not turn on, then your iPod may need service.

If the issue is still not resolved, please read this information on servicing your iPod.

  • New 5th gen touch stuck in Recovery loop at set up

I just got a new Touch and have been in the process of trying to get it set up with iTunes.  I started out doing  a restore from back up, but now I'm stuck in a loop where I get a message that "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode.  You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes."  When I restore, it spends an hour downloading iPod software and then I get this same message again.  (It will apparently do this ad infinitum.)  I do have the most current version of iTunes installed. I've tried turning the iPod on and off, disconnecting and reconnecting it, and resetting it.  I've tried different USB ports.  I've rebooted the computer.  Nothing changes.
Any ideas for what else to try?  Thanks!

  • Help! Ipod touch 5g stuck in recovery loop and cant restore

Hi. I have an ipod touch only a few weeks old. All was fine, but last week I started to experience dramatic reductions in battery life (flat in 12hrs, even if properly powered off).
I now have the "connect to itunes" logo on the screen and the ipod is not working.
Connecting to itunes, it requires a restore, but I am stuck in a loop of downloading, not recognising and then starting again.
I can see the file (all 900mb of it):
    C:\Users\J\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates\iPod5,1_6.0.1_10A523_Restore.ipsw
But it just keeps re-downloading everytime I click restore - even though the file is already there. During the download, I think the ipod/itunes connection disconnects and then reconnects as you get a new "ipod in recovery mode warning".
Considering this file is nearly a gb I am reluctant to try any more. Is there a way I can force it? The ipod is otherwise not working at all now.
I have turned off my firewall per the advice elsewhere on here.
    Cheers
    James

    Wow. I solved this.
To force the restore after downloading, but without the downloading again:
    - Disconnect and then reconnect the ipod (important in my case)
    - Hold the shift key and then click "Restore" SUPER SECRET or what!
      - Navigate to the file as per the above.
Hope the restore happens before the next disconnect (did in my case)!
    Sorted.
Now I hope my battery lasts better than before - was going flat overnight, even if turned off properly.....
