Tablet promotion misrepresented?

I stopped by the Verizon Company Store in Perrysburg, OH for a few questions on an older phone acting up. While there the salesman promoted 2 "free" Ellipsis tablets offering no charge for the devices, a $20 discount on my current 10GB data plan to cancel out the 2 tablets $10 line charges, and no activation fees. Sounded like free to me.
Then the next billing cycled through with a $45+ increase.
Called *611 and was told that adding the tablet promotion cancelled out my Edge promotion (that had no expiration date) because you can't have 2 promotions going at the same time. What kind of logic is that when the "promotions" are all on separate lines? No 2 promos on the same line. Whats the point of an unlimited promotion if your going to take it away later?
The Verizon store misrepresented this tablet offer as "no increase at all to my current bill".
The *611 rep told me I have to return to the Verizon store to resolve it. Great...a 100+ mile round trip in gas will add another layer of expense to me and no guarantee it will even get resolved!

I also won a vzw rewards program coupon but mine was for $200 off and when I tried to purchase a new ipad air 2, 64 gb, I was told that I could not use the edge program because the computer wouldn't let them process the order. I don't understand why they wouldn't let me use the edge program, agreeing to a two year contract and paying the $429.99 out.  Is the goal not to have a customer attached to this company for as long as they can get you? Now I'm mad that I have spent the last month of my life bidding on the rewards site and telling other people about it. I will be sure and let them know how this turned out.

  • Tablet Trade In Denied For Not Buying Samsung Tablet at the Same Time

They were going to process my tablet (not in system, so it will be processed as a recycle), but told me to go get the Samsung tablet so they can process everything together. When I said I don't need to buy that tablet now, they insisted that it only works if I buy the tablet. They refused to continue with the trade in even though they were right at the screen that accepts the promo on their computer. Please contact Best Buy store 117 in Cerritos.

    Hello waitforit,
I would be confused in that situation. Especially, considering it sounds as though this isn’t your first time trading in a product with Best Buy. I am sorry you were unable to trade in your tablet at the Cerritos, CA store due to this confusion.
You may use the $50 coupon toward the purchase of the Samsung Galaxy S tablet, but you are not required to do so at that time, or at all. The coupon should expire on 9/13/2014 if it goes unused. Additionally, you should be able to use the Best Buy gift card ($50 minimum) at any time. The store associate should have known this; although it sounds like there might be some confusion on this process. Your tablet must also meet the rest of the criteria of this promotion to receive those benefits; click here to find the full terms of this offer.
I have already sent an email to the store leadership at the Cerritos, CA location to provide them with the necessary information on how to process this trade-in. I recommend heading back to the store and asking for a manager to assist you in receiving this promotion. Feel free to reach back out if you have any additional questions or concerns on this matter.
    My best regards,

  • Anything "Free" is a complete scam

This company loves to screw people over in order to make money.  They lie and trick customers into believing they are getting a great deal.  Only for them to go home and look at their bill and see a bunch of fees added.  We were coerced into changing our plan to a family share plan and included we would get a free tablet.  Here we are  a month later with a tablet that has not even been opened, $35 activation fee, and an extra $10 charge a month.  If this is how loyal customers get rewarded, I no longer want them as my providers. Ridiculous.

  • BB does not honor guaranteed $50 gift card promotion for tablet trade in

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/promo/surface-trade-in-123382surface-trade-in-123382
According to the introduction text, any working tablet traded into Best Buy should generate at least a guaranteed $50 gift card to the customer.
Today I visited the Vallejo CA store to trade in a working 32g HTC EVO View 4g tablet. The manger and several employees tried to process the trade in a variety of methods. Each method was either denied because:
    1. the tablet was not in BBs online trade in system or
    2. quotation of the fine print
I'm displeased that I went through the trouble to travel to BB store with an excellent condition tablet and was rejected from the promotional offer. I left the store without argument, but upon reading the promotional page again it seems BB has outright lied about the details of this promotion.
As another forum member stated, the word guaranteed should mean guaranteed.
    Please help.

    Hi aaronhtc,
    Welcome to the forums!
It’s certainly discouraging to hear that after a drive to Best Buy, and multiple attempts of processing a trade-in, you may have left our store without being able to take advantage of our $50 tablet trade-in promotion. This promotion was intended to shine a positive light on getting rid of your old tablet(s), by offering a gift card towards newer technology. I’m very sorry for any frustration your individual experience has caused.
I greatly thank you for sharing the terms & conditions here on the forums for our other users to see. While your HTC tablet seems that it may fit the criteria of the promotion, as long as it powers on and doesn’t have a cracked screen or water damage, please know that some stores may have additional limitations for the promotion. With that said, I’ll be sending you a private message with further information in regards to this. To check your private messages, make sure you’re logged into your account and click the small envelope on the top right of the screen.
I appreciate you sharing your feedback with us on the forums, and you’ll be hearing from me shortly.

  • Tablet 1GB promotion

We recently renewed our contract and got three of the tablets that came with the 1GB promotion.  It is not showing up on our Verizon Wireless web site and we are getting warnings that we are almost out of data, but that is because it is only showing the base 1GB plan and not the 3GB in addition it should be showing.  Our sales person (and the manager) both told us not to worry, but needless to say, we are!  Also, the warning notices don't serve any purpose when they are not reflecting reality. What gives? Thanks!

  • Hello on win 8.1 tablet

I just received the promotion about Hello and tried to connect to my wife who is using Firefox 36 on her Winbook 10.1 tablet which runs full Win 8.1 (NOT RT). She said that the Hello screen comes up and there was a notice that said Firefox requests access to your mic and camera, which she approved. But she says that it has just stopped there.
I'm sorry that without seeing her tablet, I can't offer any other clues. She runs Avast just like I do and it didn't stop me, plus she hasn't mentioned any warnings on her end.
    Any idea what has happened?

Actually since Windows 10 is relatively new, this might be an issue that would need to be filed in bugzilla.mozilla.com.

  • NEED HELP with Keyboard for Yoga 2 Android Tablet

I have just spent more than an hour talking with Lenovo Sales/Customer Service tying to find out why the Yoga tablet I bought my son for Christmas doesn't have a keyboard (I purchased the tablet directly from Lenovo).
    http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/tablets/lenovo/yoga-tablet-series/yoga-tablet-2-10/
I called sales 4 times and each time I get a different answer: they are out of the keyboard, buy the keyboard from BestBusy or Amazon, there is no keyboard (even though it is pictured), it will have a keyboard but no one knows when.
I did buy the keyboard I was told by a chat with Lenovo from Amazon but it is not the correct keyboard and now I'm stuck with a tablet without a keyboard and keyboard without a tablet.
Customer Service won't help saying it's a sales problem and Sales says there is nothing they can do and transfers me to Customer Service.  It is infuriating.
My son is so dissappinted. He only wanted this tablet because it came with a keyboard (we thought) and he can use it at school.  We will likely return the tablet if it was misrepresented on the Lenovo webiste.
Does anyone know if and when the keyboard will be available?

The keyboard is also supposed to be a cover s seen in the photos. We bought the tablet because it clearly shows a keyboard case if not included at least available.
I was willing to purchase the keyboard cover but first Lenovo sales said they were out and said to purchase the keyboard (also Lenovo) at BestBuy instead but it turned out to be the wrong keyboard (not the one in the picture - too big, falls off and likely to break). Then I was told by someone else in customer service there was no keyboard and the picture is of the prototype.  Then I was told by someone else in sales that there may be one coming out in the future but no one knows when and how much it will be.
Today I had to spend more than an hour being bounced around and not getting an answer. We really want the keyboard as shown in the picture. Unfortunately because we thought the folks in sales knew about the tablet, we bought the wrong keyboard at their instruction and now it can't be returned.

  • Issue with iPad air trade in promotion.

I went to the Rego Park NYC Bestbuy store (Store 483) today and tried to trade in my iPad 4 32GB wifi because of this promotion.
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/promo/trade-in-offer-129347?ref=199&loc=iH2PRtf/I7g&acampID=1&siteID=iH2...
The girl from customer service did not know anything about it so I asked for a manager. The manager knew about the promtion and took my iPad. She offered me $246 in gift card but she said that I will not receive the $50 trade in coupon toward a new iPad Air 2 purchase. I aruged briefly with her but she insisted that was how it works because the promotion can only guarantee a minimum trade in value of $200 and since my iPad 4 has a trade in value of $246,  it will not be considered as an eligible tablet.  Could someone from Bestbuy explain how this promotion really work? Because it doesn't make sense at all if i do not get both the gift card and the $50 coupon. I read about this promotion from various forums and lots of people getting both the gift card and the coupon.

    Hello TommyLai,
I have to say I’m rather bummed that I don’t have an older iPad model to trade in. With the gift card and coupon provided with this offer, you could potentially get a new iPad Air or mini at half price (or close to it)! I’m disappointed to hear that our Rego Park location wasn’t quite up to speed with the promotion though, leaving you absolutely confused and without a cool new iPad. I’m truly sorry for this oversight.
According to our Trade in and Trade up promotion, you should have received either a $175.00 or $200.00 gift card for your trade in. Because your iPad 4 was worth more than those amounts, you were correctly offered more than the guaranteed minimum. This shouldn’t have disqualified you from receiving the coupon though. As long as you were intending to purchase the item listed on the coupon, it should have been provided with your trade-in receipt.
I’d like out to local leadership at our Rego Park location and provide them with the necessary details about this promotion. However, I’m unable to locate your Best Buy account, and I’d like to provide them with as many details as possible for further reference. Please know that I’ve sent you a private message to collect some information. You may view it by logging into the forum and clicking on the envelope in the upper right-hand corner of your screen.

  • $50 trade for working tablet not being honored at store #468

Same issues as others are having:
    West Paterson, NJ (Store 468)
    30 Andrews Dr
    Woodland Park, NJ 07424
    Phone: 973-294-1030
I have a generic brand Android tablet. The associate at the store kept saying that this model number was not in the system and couldn't be accepted for a trade-in. I asked to speak to the manager and he told me the same thing. Afterwards, I called corporate customer service and received the same response for a third time. All the while, I reminded them of the words "any working tablet" and "guaranted minimum", with no success. I don't know why so many people are having this problem.
Looks like BB is losing another customer.

    Hi drewbagel423,
I appreciate you registering on the forums and sharing your concerns with us in regards to our current $50 tablet trade-in promotion. However, I do regret hearing that you were unable to take advantage of this promotion, even after speaking with multiple associates. Furthermore, I sincerely apologize for the experience you had at our West Patterson location, especially if you were turned away when you may have otherwise been eligible for the promotion.
Per the terms of the promotion, seen here, as long as your tablet powers on, does not have a cracked screen or water damage, and isn’t a Barnes and Noble Nook based e-reader, your tablet should be eligible for the $50 Best Buy gift card.
If your tablet meets these requirements, I suggest returning to the store and having them take another look at this as today is the last day of the promotion. Please consult further leadership if you run into any issues and they should be able to assist.
Thanks for sharing your feedback with us on the forums.

  • Is there an iPad promotion when purchasing a new iPhone 6?

I just upgraded from two iPhone 4's to 2- 6's.
Seems like I saw mentioned on these forums somewhere the other day, of a promotional offer of like 200 bucks off an iPad when getting the new iPhone 6? Is there a promotion like this, I can't seem to find any info on it?

Thanks for keeping us posted on the details dburne. Upon further review it does appear that in order to receive the promotion price for the tablet, we would have to process the order for you. That would be why it's not showing online because it has to recognize that an iPhone 6/6 Plus was already ordered. In this case, we can either process the order for you over the phone at 800-922-0204 or, it can also be done at any Verizon Wireless store location. You qualify for this promotion up until September 30th. I certainly hope this helps and we do apologize for the confusion.

  • Tablet rejected as not in database

I was trying to turn in my Ainol NovoElfII at store number 1782.  I was trying to get the promotion for the 50 dollar gift card and the 50 dollar samsung tab offer.  This is a full working android tablet and not an e reader or nook.  I was told at the customer service counter they I cannot turn it in even under a recycle option because the tablet is not in the database.  Under the terms I thought my tablet would qualify as it is a working android tablet.  Please let me know if I should be able to qualify for the promotion with this tablet.
    -Thank you

Good morning riceballed, and welcome to the Best Buy forum,
This is not the first time we have had a trade-in offer attached to the release of a new tablet, so I find it a bit surprising that you may have encountered difficulties while at our Duarte, CA store.  A tablet does not need to be found within our Trade-in system to be eligible for the $50 Best Buy gift card and $50 coupon; however, the terms of the offer do clearly state that Best Buy does reserve the right to refuse any trade-in.  I wouldn't think a tablet not being found in our system would be a reason to refuse though.
I do want to apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced and would like to see what I can potentially do to help.  You will end up needing to go back up to the store and try trading in your tablet again.  To further discuss the matter with you and gather some additional information, I will be sending you a private message.  You can check your private messages by logging into the forum and clicking on the little yellow envelope at the top of the page.  I look forward to further speaking with you.
I hope you have a great Friday, and thank you for connecting with us.

  • Need someone to contact me regarding problem with tablet trade in from today! Very upset!

I went to the Best buy in Lakeland, FL today with my two children who were eager to trade in their tablets for gift cards. Both tablets were in great working condition, and we even still had the boxes, manuals and accessories. One was a Mach trio stealth 7" and the other Mach stealth lite 4.3". They refused to take the 4.3" one as a trade in, stating it was listed in Best buy's database as a "mp3 player". I questioned this as the tablet itself even has the words "internet tablet" printed on the back, and pointed out that the manufacturer has it listed on their website as a tablet as well. The supposed "manager" that was called over was very rude and argumentative. After I let her know she could go (because I was not going to continue to listen to her rudeness), the other associate who was helping me sat on another register and rang up several people, ignoring me. Finally he asks if he could still help me with anything. Of course I pointed out that I DID in fact still have a tablet there to trade in (which he knew, as he had already began processing it before the manager was called over). This trip left me feeling very sour towards Best Buy... Well, there I left, with one happy child, and the other one disappointed and sad. How can you say a tablet isn't a tablet, when it's clearly labeled as such on the product itself? The exclusions said nothing about the size of the tablet, so I really need some answers.

    Hello AmandaSmith,
I am very disappointed to read about your poor experience when you went to take advantage of our Trade Up to the New Fire HD promotion at the Lakeland, FL store. As a mom I can definitely relate to how you felt because we love our children so much that it is upsetting to see them disappointed and sad. This should have been a fun experience for the both of them (and you), and I sincerely apologize if the store associates were rude and disrespectful.
As long as your tablet meets the minimum requirements of the promotion, then you should be able to qualify for the trade-in to receive a $50 gift card to use towards any other tablet or item. Those minimum requirements are:
    -          The device must be able to power on
    -          Must have a valid serial number
    -          Cannot have a cracked screen
    -          Cannot have any liquid damage
    -          The device cannot be a Barnes & Noble Nook or other eReader
That being said, I have some further details I would like to share with you, so I will be sending you a private message. To view your private messages please make sure you are logged onto the forum, and click on the envelope in the top right hand corner.
I truly appreciate you visiting the forum to share your experience, and please keep an eye out for that message coming your way.

  • EE Tablet offer and the law

Hi - so recently EE had a promotion whereby they were providing free tablets to those who signed up for their fiber service. I happen to be one of those customers and I happen to be seemingly among the many who have yet to recieve the good. For information purposes we ordered fibre in April 2015. Just to confirm, the offer was for the following tablet: Huawei Mediapad Youth 2 Now, I understand how these things go and these are not the most high end tablets and this was probably left over stock and the supply/demand was grosely underestimated. This also backs on my limited research on Google where I failed to find any for sale or in stock, even on Amazon. Although a few have cropped up on Ebay, but that is hardly a surprise. My question is does this offer form the basis of a contract under law? I am sure it would be a valid claim to say that we signed up on the basis we would get the tablet. And how long is too long to wait? We as I am sure many others have been told they are "coming" however there is no indication as to when. We've filled in all of the forms (no links please) multiple times and we have yet to get even a single response from EE officially (not even a sorry...). What I want to know is where do we stand legally? Are we entitled to file an official complaint and who would be the best people to speak to in this case? If EE are unwilling to communicate with us directly then I see no reason why we should contiune tolerating their lies and poor customer service. We are the consumer and I hope the law is on our side for this  Thank you.

Aside from the law, you are always entitled to file an official complaint with EE - see Ways to complain . If you have no satisfaction with EE within 8 weeks you are entitled to escalate it to their ADR, CISAS.
