Tablet questions

After watching many training videos on Lynda.com I noticed many of the instructors use a drawing tablet. So of course it got my interest and am looking for some advise on this.
Do many of you use them?
Besides brush pressure is there a real advantage to them?
What would be the minimum size working area that one would need with Photoshop?
What brands are okay? I am sure I already know that it seems Wacom is the only way to go?
Thanks and any opinions and help is very much appreciated.

Wacom are the best make, and the most reliable. They also seem to have very close connections with Adobe, and as a result, their products always seem to work perfectly with the products. Depebnding on thier make, they also allow for other features such as extra keys on the side to do certian things. The two most saught-after makes are Intuos and Cintiqu, both of which are equipped with the same techno9logy, but Cintiqu allows drawing directly to the actual screen, which some find good, and some find bad...either way, they are much more expensive.
Some argue that size has little difference as it buy default maps the entire screen to the tablet anyway, but it does especially make a difference when painting if you have long brush strokes (which most people do at least once in a while).
It really does depend on what you want it for. I you are a hardcore artist/graphic designer, i would be teampted to spend, and go for an A5-A4 or even A3 Intuos wacom tablet, or a cintiq if you have the money and are confortable working that way.
Graphics tablets are alot more precise because they map the screen to the surface area, so you can instantly move anywhere on screen without having to drag around your mouse, which is obviously useful for painting and drawing.

  • Nokia 770 tablet questions

Got mine today along with thousands of others as Expansys selling them by the bucketload!! Two problems:-
    i) Bluetooth - cannot get it to see my Orange SPV E650 - is the phone too new? Phone no see tablet/tablet no see phone.
ii) How do the rubber supports in the box fit and hold the tablet securely? Otherwise they make good nose and ear picks!
Expect lots of questions from lots of people - got to get in quick!
    Doug

I'd like to use the 770 as a bridge from my wifi router to my sound system to stream internet radio (Live365.com, music.aol.com, etc.)
    1) Can the headphone output jack of the 770 be connected to the aux input of my amplifier? I already do this with an external CD player with no problems.
    2) Since it will be left "on" for hours at a time, is there an external power supply that could be substituted for the battery when the 770 is used in this mode?
3)If there isn't one available, can the battery charger be left connected during operation? Would this harm the unit or reduce the life of the battery?
    4) If I have a spare battery, can it be recharged when not installed in the 770?
    5) As a VOIP device, does the 770 have a external microphone input jack (either monaural or stereo), similar to the headphone output jack? This would allow "hands free" use.
    6) If some of the above functions/options are not possible nor available on the existing model, is Nokia considering including them as product improvements?
The other features of the product make it much more interesting to me than a simple wireless audio device, even if it costs more.
Thanks to anyone who can help!

  • Muse Mobile and Tablet questions!

    Hi Everyone!
I have a couple of questions:
    1. For one of my web pages I didn't make tablet layout. It's not an empty layout - it's not activated at all. That page is not visible on iPads. Is this because there is not tablet version and I need to make that or is that something else?
Why desktop is not visible on tablets (iPad in this case - didnt try android yet).
    2. On mobiles, (layout is 380 pixels wide) android for example, when I open that site, pages are "too wide", I can move left/right a little bit, but when I tap twice it fits to the screen. I want to have everything nice on each mobile device without any action from the user. I heard about code to paste (viewport code): "<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0, maximum-scale=1.0, user-scalable=0"". I put this into page properties/metadata, was fine with vertical layout, but with horizontal viewing on mobile, things like full background photo slide show or other elements were displayed completely wrong. I didn't try to paste viewport code as a html in each page. Is that a reason for the problem, or is that something else? If not viewport code, what to do for universal page dimensions if something like that is possible to set at all?
    3. The last problem so far to me is, when I have some images in vertical layout on mobile, lets say it looks ok. Looking in horizontal, pictures are zoomed in, and they look blurry. I see same thing viewing some mobile templates for example at themeforest.net. What to do, to get nice sharp looking image on both layouts? Is responsive widget (different pictures depends on size displayed) the answer? I know about retina (retina@x2) images, but that probably would help just for retina displays. What to do to have nice sharp looking images on both layouts on mobile version? Probably same problem is viewing tablet site at different layouts, when horizontal will be zoomed in (stretched to the sides) to fill the browser window.
I hope someone can help me.
    Do appreciate it!
    Luke.

  • Blackberry Desktop on Dell Venue Pro 8 Tablet Questions

I have read that it is possible to use Blackberry Desktop with Windows 8 & 8.1.  And I have read that Blackberry Desktop works with any version of Outlook other than 2013.   I have been told by Microsoft that I can install any version of Outlook older than 2013 onto a Windows 8 or 8.1 device.  HAS anyone out there done this.  I really like my Torch 9800 and wish to be able to use it with the new Dell tablet.  OR does anyone have any other inexpensive tablet ideas.

    Hello,
Some clarifications to resolve what you "have been told" versus what is accurate...

Please re-read the above system requirements page...I'm not at all sure that the Desktop Software is compatible with any tablet at all...but you need to compare your gear against what the Desktop Software supports.

  • Remote Desktop - Pinch and Zoom compatibility with Microsoft Access

Hi guys, not sure which forum to place this into but here we go.
We use Windows 8.1 tablets and RDP to a 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Server, we can pinch and zoom with Office 2007 Excel, Word without issues.
I would like to know if there is a list of programs that's compatible with pinch and zoom because it looks to me like Microsoft Access (2007 version) isn't compatible with pinch and zoom but I need proof for my IT manager.
Can you tell me if I should be able to pinch and zoom a database windows within MS Access?

    Hi,
As per my research there is no such description whether which program compatible with pinch and zoom but still as this seems more relate to tablet question. You can ask your comment over there for more perfect answering.

  • Hp stream 8 printer setup

I cant seem to figure out how to make my wireless printer be the default printer when printing from google chrome.

    Hey @tomstrans ,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand you're having issues setting the default printer for Chrome on your Stream 8 tablet.
This is more of a printing question than a tablet question. Also the fact you've stated it's specifically in Chrome pinpoints the issue with something in the Chrome settings.
Are you using an HP printer? If so, which one?
Are you using it via USB, ethernet, wireless, ePrint, or Chrome Print?
    Thanks.

  • Multiple Tablet Z questions

Got my Tablet Z on Saturday to replace a Toshiba Excite 10. Biggest reason for the Xperia Tablet Z was weight (finally Sony does a tablet Sony Style...) Biggest concern with the Xperia Tablet Z is heavily skinned Android and an expectation/fear that Sony will not support Android/follow the changes to it in a timely way. This is a premium priced tablet. Doesn't seem like too much to ask. My benchmark for supporting Android is my Galaxy Nexus... Maybe AOSP? Anyway, on to why I'm posting:
    Some questions:
Chrome bookmarks always opens to Mobile bookmarks / Sony--any way to change besides deleting Sony folder?
Email delete always confirms--any way to turn off?
Backup & restore says it can backup to the cloud--really? how?
had to disable the shipped Calendar app and install Google Calendar to get latest Calendar features--so sad...
using Smart Connect View event as shipped: it starts SensMe when dropped in the cradle; but when I remove tablet from cradle, TuneIn Radio is current running app--why??!?
any way to soft reset it? what's the thing that looks like a switch between the USB port and the serial number barcodes?
    Bonus:
(probably rhetorical) I've read about a "timely" update to 4.2--4.2 has been out for almost nine months, wouldn't "timely" have been at first ship?
white paper for devs lists "eCompass" app but can't find...--what is eCompass?
white paper lists "Google Wallet" app but isn't installed/won't work--guessing this is a WiFi vs. LTE tablet issue?!?
Thanks in advance for any info!

well, hate to burst your bubble, but most sony update came late.
Chrome bookmarks always opens to Mobile bookmarks / Sony--any way to change besides deleting Sony folder?
you mean the bookmarks? or the homepage? you can change your homepage by going to browser>settings>general.
Email delete always confirms--any way to turn off?
    - what email client are you using? try going to the settings and see if there are options to change, and be aware that if sync is active and you deleted an email on your computer, it would also delete it on the phone.

try to see the settings on the app, you can remove or disable the the app from firing up when removed from the dock.

    settings>privacy>settings reset

the tablet was designed and made 9 months before the release of 4.2, so i guess they stick to 4.1 than to change everything at last moments. sony has been struggling with "timely" updates,
white paper for devs lists "eCompass" app but can't find...--what is eCompass?
some apps are not available on all market areas, you may try searching on google play.
white paper lists "Google Wallet" app but isn't installed/won't work--guessing this is a WiFi vs. LTE tablet issue?!?
    nope ,same reason above.

  • Question about the Insignia 8: Windows 8.1 Tablet

Here is my situation. I currently have a 10.1" Gateway Netbook that seems like it's running on it's last leg. I bought it used originally and it's a 2009 model.
Today I was browsing BestBuy.com and I came across a 8" Insignia Tablet running Windows 8.1 and having an Intel Atom Processor. I read the specs and it says it has access to plug in a USB 2.0 device.
What I was wondering, is the USB 2.0 access through a dongle that connects to the Tablet itself? And another question I had was the way it charges. I was wondering if the charging mechanism plugs into the wall through the USB port that's on the tablet or if it's another jack that charges it. I was going to use it as a "Light desktop" replacement for my Bedroom to watch Youtube videos and play very very light games on it, etc. It looks like it's also energy efficient and it's similar in specs with the 32GB eMMC Solid State Drive that's on my HP Stream Laptop.
I'd want to use a stand for it, and also connect a USB 2.0 Hub just to be able to connect a wired keyboard and mouse.
Thanks to anyone for any insight you may have on this.

    Hockeycanuckjc,
I actually have this tablet personally so I'd be happy to help you with how I got it to work.
Because the Insignia 8.1 tablet doesn't have a full USB port, you would need a dongle that converts micro-USB to USB in order for this to work. I actually picked up this guy one night after work and it solved my problem instantly:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-galaxy-micro-usb-to-usb-adapter/1688641.p?id=1219059709888&skuId...
Although it says it only works with Galaxy devices, I have gotten it to work on many different tablets and phones of varying brands and OSes, including the Insignia tablet. Although I personally haven't plugged in a USB hub to the extender, I don't think it will have any problems.
    Hope this helps!

  • Include the Model # of your Slate tablet in your question!

With the debut of many new tablets from HP, there are now varying models of "Slates" with different specifications.
For example, we now have the HP 7 1800, Slate 7 28xx/46xx, Slate 7 Plus 42xx, Slate 7 HD, and the Slate 7 Extreme 44xx!
The Slate 8 Pro, Slate 10 HD, and Slate 21 have also arrived.
These devices have different options, and some have different reset procedures.
BE SURE when you make a post in this section that you include the Model number of your device.  If you are unsure of the model you possess, the information can be found here:

  • Can iPad or Android tablets reply to forum questions?

Can the iPad be used to write replies to forum questions?
I ask because I have been using an Android tablet recently and though it can be used to input text into browser etc. text fields, it stubbornly refuses to reveal its keyboard when I try to respond to forum questions.
I don't know whether it is a fault with my device, user error or whether iPads and other tablets just can't be used for this purpose.

It completely depends on the specific forum/post you are thinking about.
As stedman1 pointed out, the mobile versions of browsers (i.e., iPad safari, etc.) are almost always limited with respect their desktop versions. For example, if your forum uses flash to post messages, you will never be able to post a message using an iPad at this moment since iPad does not support flash.
That being said, the web has started to be more mobile (and getting more in each day). Most of the websites (and forums) have either dedicated mobile web versions, where they make sure that you can access all information as you were in a normal computer. If that does not work, they even create dedicated apps (there are iPad apps for some webpages) so that you can post/explore the webpage through the app.
Also, one final (and maybe not yet good solution) is to use cloud browsers. The idea with these browsers is that they run on servers and transmit the webpage back to you as images. Your actions (click, keyboard input, etc.) are also captured and transmitted back to the server. This way, you can emulate a real desktop browser on your iPad, which will have the same limitations (or unlimitations) as a desktop browser.
If you have a specific webpage, etc. in mind, just tell us and we can check on your behalf.

  • Thanks to those who answered my previous question.  What I was actually wondering is do they need a tablet OR an ipad as well as an iphone?

See the above question please.  Does the iphone do everything a tablet cnan do ad do the kids need it plus the phone or would an ipad be a better item. Thanks.

  • Question about digitizing tablets

Just a general question. How many of you use a graphics tablet when
working with your photos? Is it worth getting one? Is it a "must
have" tool or does it simply do some tasks differently or easier?

I use one all of the time. They make things like masking, painting, cloning
and other such things much easier than a mouse. However, unless you are an
artist you don't need one of the expensive ones. I suggest looking at the
new Wacom Bamboo Fun line. Great feature set, nice looking tablets and good

  • Toc question & screen writing on tablet

Hi, I'm currently running the demo and doing some research for a client to determine if Captivate has the functionality they need.
They have previously used another application with which they could 'write' on screen using a tablet pc & pen. This enabled them to highlight items during a presentation & write simple notes that might be appropriate to a slide.
Is this possible with Captivate? I'm guessing it can be done using the built in software on a tablet pc & simply recording the presentation using Captivate?
Another issue is the table of contents that is generated. Is there any way to wrap the items so if the toc contains lengthy titles they drop onto the next line? Also, is it possible to customise the toc menu styling even more than the various styles available (ie: using css or another method)?

I have found that if the user hovers their mouse over the title in the TOC it will show the entire title. Also, you can create sub text in the TOC.
