Tablets are terrible

I wanted to share this new beta browser test from Peacekeeper that shows my Firefox browser on a MacBook Pro compared to tablets and iOS devices.
For the insane sums of money one spends on a iPad, sure is ALOT of the web capability is simply missing.
The new test wouldn't work with Safari on OS X yet, but the last test does and Safari is about twice better than Firefox, but doesn't have the iPad comparison like the above test does. I let the results speak for themselves.

  • Did you know the tablets are now available with the Edge program?

    While tablets are now able to be purchased with the Edge, the Device Payment Plan has been discontinued. So, if you want to pay over 12 months, to keep unlimited data, you are out of luck. Either full price, or lose it and use Edge.
    Just another way for Verizon to get rid of unlimited.

    I would check again. The problem is when you went to a corporate store and that is the only way to get it. The stores were telling customers that Verizon's device payment plan was only for tablets.
    That is the first lie on their parts. The second thing the store would tell customers that if you used the plan you would still lose unlimited data, lie two.
    You could not grandfather in a plan such as the device payment plan. Grandfathered to whom? Those who already choose it and are on it?  Those who got grandfathered in how? Maybe a wrong choice of word in your post.
    Like Ann154 the plan is still showing on the Verizon wireless site.
    I also called my former account executive at Verizon and he said he knew of no discontinuance of the program.
    So unless you have advance information via working for Verizon wireless I would wait for the news release.
    In your case I would go to a corporate store and insist on them honoring the Device Payment Plan. Maybe mention your attorney, or a state regulatory agency etc.
    Good Luck

    This is a new issue on an old setup. The mac was recently upgraded to maverick. thanks
    Say no more.. upgrading to Mavericks.. any upgrade install is prone to issues.. the Mavericks one is the worst of any recent upgrades.
    Lets just try and isolate the problem.
    In the setup of the AE, give different names to the two wireless bands.. so go into the airport utility.. click the AE, Click edit.. click the wireless tab.. and now type in a new name.
    Try AE24ghz
    Then click the wireless options and change the name for the 5ghz..
    Make it AE5ghz
    Then update the AE.
    In the computer.. select either band.. and see if your other clients are affected if they use the band that the Mac is not using.
    Alternatively turn off wireless in the macbook and use ethernet.. oh please please have a Mac with an ethernet port.. otherwise buy a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter.. it is well worth having. wireless is never to be trusted.

    The wiki mentions that  '~/.opera/styles/browser.css' should override the site author's settings . that doesn't work for me . I forced my settings using '/usr/share/opera/styles/browser.css' .
    sample browser.css

  • Since 3.3.1, colors of exported files are terrible

    When I exported pictures in previous versions of Aperture, colors were fine.  Since updating to 3.3.1 the colors are really terrible.  Is there a way to revert to 3.3 or earlier?  Have others seen this problem?  Pictures look fine on the screen.
    Rick

    Hi Kirby, thanks for replying.
    I right-click the photo and Export Version... then choose one of my presets.
    I'm exporting using my lab's printer profile, as I've used for years.  They have a Chromira and have provided profiles for Fuji Crystal Archive in glossy and lustre.  So no change there.  I output TIFF files with black point compensation.  Again, all the same as I've done for years.

  • Printing 2-sided book and 2-sided tablet are reversed

    The document is a 2 pages A4 landscape PDF document. OS is Windows XP.
    When we use Adobe Acrobat 7.1.0 Pro and we print it 2-sided book on a MFP (we checked multiple manufacturers and drivers), the document is correctly printed: the duplex is made on the short edge of the paper (read it as a book).
    When we use Adobe Acrobat 7.1.0 Pro and we print it 2-sided tablet on the same MFP, the document is also correctly printed: the duplex is made on the long edge of the paper (read it as a tablet).
    However, if we open the same document with Adobe Reader 8.1.2, the operation is completely reversed:
    - 2-sided book gives a document you read as a tablet
    - 2-sided tablet gives a document you read as a tablet
    So, what is the difference between Adobe Acrobat 7.1.0 Pro and Adobe Reader 8.1.2 for duplex printing ?
    Thank you for your support.
    Best Regards,

    I'm having a similar problem. I'm using JSDK1.3.1 on NT4 and printing to Lexmark Optra S printers. Tried different machines and printers (same models though), and even JSDK1.4 beta 2. Other MS apps print duplex ok, but not my Java apps, even though the print dialogs and options are identical. There's not much to see in the code as it's just the typical...
    PrinterJob printJob = PrinterJob.getPrinterJob();
    printJob.setPageable(myBook);
    if (printJob.printDialog()) {
    printJob.print();
    Any help would be much appriciated!

  • Headphones are terrible

    I love the function of the included headphones with the iPhone 3G, especially the discreet little clicker that performs many different intuitive functions like going to the next track or answering a call. However, for these headphones and the headphones that are included with just about every Apple music product--the fit is terrible for me! They never stay in for more than five minutes because they fall out without me doing anything at all! When I wear them while I'm out for a walk, it's lucky if I can listen to a 2-min song all the way through. Are there other headphones that have the neat clicker function of the included headphones, but stay in your ears? They can even clip onto my ear, that's fine with me. You know, as impressive as Apple is at maximizing form and function, I am seriously disappointed with these headphones. Are there other options??

    You can get one of these any use any headphones, it has a Mic and button plus 3.5mm socket.

  • Since updating to 3.6.6 on Mac OS 10.6.4, all downloaded videos are terribly degraded.

    As I SAID, since updating to Firefox 3.6.6 on Mac OS 10.6.4, ALL videos that I download are horribly degraded! Unless I can resolve this and ditch this last dreadful update, I'm going to stop using Firefox for the first time in nearly 10 years. Most people that I know have switched to Google's Chrome, but I've stuck with Firefox.

    Hello Jeffery.
    It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
    Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
    If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
    Also, if you have a problem with Google Chrome, you need to contact Google, since they are the ones that develop it. Be mindful that the [http://dotnetperls.com/chrome-memory big amounts of RAM it uses up] when browsing multiple tabs is not a bug, but rather a "feature" of Chrome. Also, be mindful that the impossibility of having many tabs in the same window is not a bug, but rather a "feature" of Chrome. Bear in mind, in addition, that the relatively poverty of add-ons for Google Chrome is not as much due to its age as it is to the impossibility of developing add-ons for it that are as rich as those for Firefox. Don't forget either that the fact that Chrome will send, by default, potentially private information to Google is not a bug, but rather a "feature" of Chrome. You may also end up finding the very same problems you found in Firefox, if those were due to careless usage of add-ons or an infected system. For any usability problems, you will need to contact Google directly, too.
    Also, if you are using another browser out of spite or because you can't fix your problem with Firefox, I will remind you that Mozilla is a non-profit, public service organization, and, as such, doesn't have the same financial interests Google (or any other company developing a major web browser) does. Mozilla's objective is that ''you'', the user, use the browser ''you want'', be if Firefox or any other browser. If you want to use Firefox but can't, due to a problem, I'm glad to work with you the best I know and can to fix it. If you actually want to use another browser, then I'm happy that you finally found your "home", and my job is successfully done.

  • Sony you are terrible right now in your support

    A brand-new notebook should 'just work' right out of the box.  I'd return the defective one you got and get a replacement.

  • Arrgh! Is anybody else having problems with the Adobe Acrobat open source approach to handling PDF files? I am getting as many as three crashes and full reboot per day and the delays are terribly frustrating.

    Do I have a registry problem?
    Every time I open a PDF file my local Adobe Acrobat (6.0) installation opens AND the file displays in Firefox (v. 4.0.1). When I close the PDF file it tells me other PDF files are open and asks if I'm sure I want to close Acrobat.
    The process is messy and somewhere, before too long there is a memory error that causes the whole system to crash.
    Is anybody else having this problem? Does anybody have any idea how to fix the conflict?

  • D300 raw files in A2 - Colors are terrible?

    I've been using Nikon's Capture NX software to edit my D300 raw files since Aperture 1.5 didn't support D300 raw files. Tonight, I downloaded the trial version of Aperture 2.0 and imported some of my D300 raw files into A2. Side by side comparison is night and day - The colors in the NX software are brilliant, while the exact same raw file viewed in A2 is pathetic. I also noticed that you can do a lot more correcting of the files in NX than you can do in A2, like adjusting active-dlighting and built-in picture control (vivid, etc.)
    My first impression of A2 for editing D300 raw files is very poor. Capture NX does a much better job, probably because it's made by Nikon for a Nikon camera. A warning to A2 users - the raw images from a D300 are REALLY raw, they don't appear to include any in-camera corrections. Making these corrections in A2 is almost impossible because the Nikon-specific controls aren't in A2.
    Am I losing my mind or has anyone else noticed this?
    I still plan on using A1.5 or A2 to manage my libraries, but can't see any reason to use Aperture to edit my D300 raw files!

    NoMoreDells4me wrote:

    Ask anybody who knows anything about raw converters what the principal difference between Capture NX and other raw converters is and your observation will be first thing mentioned. This probably was not your intention, but by making the obvious appear sensational you created the impression that Aperture has been unduly hyped in an insincere manner. Which is not true since what you describe is one the first things people learn about raw converters and therefore cannot be hidden behind any hype.
    That does not change the fact that your observation is absolutely correct. Unfortunately, there is far no software available that would make switching between different raw conversion engines simple and easy (except Aperture with raw version 1.0, 1.1 and 2 but almost nobody would want to choose any of the older converter versions over the current one). So, you cannot have the raw conversion of Capture NX and the ease of use of Aperture in one simple package.
