  • Prepaid Data Plan?

I have been using an old iPhone 3g using a prepaid att sim card for almost 2 years now. I recenltly discovered a forum that allowed the iphone to use the prepaid data services. http://http://gigaom.com/apple/how-to-give-your-old-iphone-new-life-with-prepaid -data-and-minutes/ I tested this before upgrading my rate plan and it worked flawlessly. After upgrading my minute to minute plan to the $50 a month unlimited talk, text and data package safari can't connect to the server all of a sudden. Before It was working and charging large amounts of data usage charges to my account. Any suggestions? I already bought the package so I am up a creek without a paddle on this one as of right now.

There is no possible way to make an iPhone pre-paid.
The only suggestion I have is to get a checking account and a debit card and have the money taken from your account ($59.99 a month) taken out.

  • HT3529 I have two older iPhones (3g, 3gs) that I've given to my granddaughters. The phones don't have phone service so they're using them like an iPod touch. Can I set up Message on these phones without a phone number for them or data plan?

I have two older iPhones (3g, 3gs) that I've given to my granddaughters. The phones don't have phone service so they're using them like an iPod touch. Can I set up Messages for them on these phones without a phone number or data plan using only Wi-Fi?

Yes you can. Just make sure you have iMesages on. You will need to go into Settings>Messages and turn it on and log in to their Apple IDs. I was having some activation issues when I first got my iPhone 4S [it was the carrier's fault, not the iPhone's] and I was using iMessages with my Apple ID to text my friends who had iPhones. I of course had to be connected to Wi-Fi for it to work. Hope that helps.
You could also have them download a texting app and they could use that on Wi-Fi. There are many free ones out there. I personally enjoy Text Now. Gives you your own phone number so others can text you too, not just iDevices.

  • Unable to connect to Verizon prepaid data plan. Verizon states everything is Todd on their end. Please help

  • Rip off the price for deaf with data plan!

    Check out
I just stop by the store after I look around www site and told me cant accpet and know what total 66 per month for deaf data only with tax incl.. what lots $$  I found 34.99 on www site even i ask for manger on site and reufsed cooperation with me what hell wrong with people that I found this.. check out link..  its verizon!  34.99 is fair for deaf only!
reason I stop by for I-Phone 4 for my roommates birthday today but no present today

Actually, the $35 plan includes unlimited messaging and data, but its for feature phones, not smartphones like the iPhone. They have a similar plan that is $55 for unlimited messaging and data, but for smartphones.
I used to have the $35 plan before getting the iPhone, then had to upgrade to the more expensive one since I was getting a smartphone.
    Here's a link to them: http://www.verizonwireless.com/plans-0/b2c--splash--messagingplans.jsp.shtml
(And by the way, you don't really have to be deaf to get the plan even though it says you do. I have no hearing issues and still got it.)

  • Samsung N150 - can mine be unlocked for used with Chuang Hwa Telecomm's prepaid data service

The netbook is marketed as global ready, and has a SIM slot.
I have owned this for about a year.
Next month, I plan to travel to Taiwan.  Chuang Hwa telecomm has a prepaid 3G data plan 500NT$ for 7 days that seems to be a very good deal.
Question is if the netbook (or the Gobi chip) needs a unlock code to use with a foreign SIM.
    Does any one know?
Better yet, has anyone used Chunghwa's prepaid data plan?

    Hello alin43:
Yes, that 3G prepaid data plan does sound like a good deal!  When using another carrier's 3G SIM, you must first unlock your global device.  If your device and line of service qualifies for the Unlock, this would be handled by Verizon Wireless Global Support Team.  They can be reached M - F 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Eastern Time at 800-711-8300.
Let us know if this answers your question, and well wishes on your trip next month!

  • Remove data plan from family plan with basic phones?

Is there a way to remove a data plan from a family plan with just basic phones on it? We used to have a $20/month basic plan until we had to get a data plan for our son's iPhone. He no longer has the iPhone with Verizon and has removed his line from the plan because he has an Android with Sprint. We also were required to use the data plan because we at one point had one of those "Hotspot" devices as a temporary solution for at-home Internet until our DSL line could be fixed. As of now we no longer have the hotspot device or the iPhone, but we still have a data plan that is patently useless because all we have are basic phones. On the My Verizon Wireless website, it says that "your text and data are now bundled with your plan" or something to that effect. I don't want to be paying extra for a useless data plan that we don't need or want because we are not in the market for fancy smart phones or tablets any time soon.
Is there any way to unbundle or detach the data plan so that we no longer have one and just have the unlimited text and calling plan without data? Our daughter is fine with her EnV Touch from 2005 and us old folks are perfectly content with the basic flip phones. Is the EnV a data phone too, in which case we should get rid of the EnV Touch in favor of an even more "basic" basic phone? She's not much of a technology buff like her brother is and has even suggested getting rid of the "fancier" phone that she has for a basic flip phone. Are we stuck with the data plan unless we break everyone off from the family plan (it's just me, my husband, my daughter, and my sister for right now) and move everyone to pay-as-you-go or no-contract? Wouldn't that end up costing more in the long run? How can we get rid of this annoying and expensive data plan that nobody on our network even uses and is causing a headache of expense?

As I understand the plans now (and this could be wrong, they change so often I get confused!!) to have the "pay as you go" data, on the More Everything, you have 700 shared minutes.  To bump up to unlimited minutes, there is an attached data plan of 500 MB, and the total cost for 4 basic phones, unlimited minutes and text, 500 MB data, is $100/mo  ($20 for each basic phone line access, and $20 for the data).  The 700 shared minutes and pay as you go data is $85.
You can change your plan at any time.

  • I am trying to download the new episode of Game of Thrones on my iPad. We are currently travelling in Italy and have an unlimited pre- paid data plan with the Italian carrier Wind.  When I try download the episode through iTunes I get an error message

Hi there, traveling through Italy with my iPad. Purchased a unlimited prepaid data plan with Italian carrier WIND.  Has been working excellent, but when I try to download a new episode of Game of Thrones, I get an error message which says that I have to connect to a wi fi network or download the episode on my MacBook.  Why can't I download using the microsim and prepaid data plan?  Any help will be great thank you!

Unfortunately downloads larger than 20mbps require wifi due to most carriers having data limits. This "requirement" keeps people who are not familiar with data and what takes up a lot of data from going over.

  • Unlimited MiFi Data Plan not "compatible" with 4G MiFi

I currently have a family plan that includes 2 Droid X’s, 2 non data cell phones and a 3g MiFi Card.
I pay $30 for each Droid data plans and $53 for my unlimited data MiFi plan.  I recently decided to try and cut
my Verizon plan payments down to a reasonable amount.  I decided to give up one of the Droid X phones that I was
using and switch back to a non-data cell phone. I can't see why I should pay for a $30 Droid data plan and $50 for MiFi.
I wanted to upgrade to 4G MiFi and use it with my IPod Touch and laptop. To save $30, but when I went to
upgrade the MiFi, I was told my unlimited data plan would not work with the 4G MiFi plan and if I wanted to upgrade,
I would have to change to the 5G or 10G plan.
I have had the unlimited data plan since 2006.  I started out with the V640 Express card then in 2008 upgraded to
the Verizon USB760 EVDO Rev A modem and in 2010 the MiFi 2200. Nothing has ever been said about my unlimited
    plan until this upgrade.
The nice Verizon rep told me that the unlimited data plan is not “compatible” with the 4G data plan.
Is that their way of saying “we are really trying to force you out of your grandfathered unlimited data plan”?
I have been so happy with Verizon all these years. But, if the only way I can have unlimited data with Verizon is
to stay with 3G, should I maybe start looking into the Sprint unlimited data plan?

I'm having the same problems. Sounds like they want more money to me.  I started out with the usb thing several years ago.
Data is data.  They should have to accept our plans.

  • Will my $20 data plan need to be incresed to upgrade?

I know that new iPhone 3G users pay 30 dollars a month for unlimited data then whatever on top of that for text messaging, but I would much rather keep my $20 unlimited data which includes 200 text messages plan if I upgrade. Is there anyway this is possible? or will I need to have to spend about $15 extra a month?
    Thanks

I'm sure you would like to keep your current data plan for the first generation iPhone as would all first generation iPhone owners that decide to purchase an iPhone 3G.
The cost for the unlimited data plan for the iPhone 3G is $30/mo and does not include any SMS. This is at&t's standard unlimited data plan rate for PDA style phones or for phones in the smart phone category, and is not negotiable.
A 200 SMS allowance will cost an additional $5/mo, which is also standard.

  • How tonfigure new ipad to use att data plan

how do I configure an ipad bought outside the US to use an ATT prepaid data plan, I already got the ATT SIM Card but I dont seemed to make it work.

    Contact AT&T.

  • Canceling data plan after returning IPAD

I am posting this hoping to save time for the next person who runs into this.
I purchased and IPAD2 on the IPAD2 launch day. I wanted an ATT because I travel internationally, but it was sold out. Apple employees were recommending that we buy whatever was in stock (Verizon sold out the last). I used the verizon IPAD and activated the Verizon service on it using the IPAD and used it for the time I had the IPAD.
Then later I went back to the Apple store (early morning) They luckily had a 64 GB white ATT IPAD (what I wanted). I returned the Verizon. The apple employee made sure that he wiped out the device in front of me. I thought it was all done.
But today, I got an email from Verizon saying that my automated billing was done and it only gave the last 4 digits of my SIM card on the IPAD I had returned.
This is where the really painful interaction with Verizon started. This saga took about an hour on Sunday April 10th starting around 11:30 PST.
I searched on the Internet and called the Verizon wireless customer service. I specifically told her about IPAD 2 and my situation. She said she located my account (but it was for an old wireless service we had with Verizon 2 years ago. We were loyal verizon customers for 10 years before we switched to ATT for iPhone). She kept asking me more info and after about 5 minutes, she said she would have to transfer me. Then she simply dropped the call on me.
I called again. This time the person (Debbie) asked me the same set of questions again, and told me I would have to call my bank and put a stop payment on the credit card. She was unable to help me.
I asked to talk to a manager. His name was Dave. This was a smart guy. He told me that IPAD2 was not handled by their department (they are postpaid only). And gave me a phone number for the IPAD2 data plan department.
The right number to call for IPAD2 data questions is 1 800 786 8419
I called the IPAD2 data plan number. It asked me for the 10 digit phone number (which I did not have because I had returned the phone and the verizon billing email only mentioned the last 4 digits - there was no other information in the billing email). I was then connected to a live person.
The person was completely clueless  and kept giving me false information. First she said there was no way to look me up if I did not have the device. When I asked to connect to a manager, she said she will look me up by name. She did. I was the only person with that name (I have a unique enough last name). She said she would need the MEID number for the device for her to help me. I said I did not have it because I returned the device. She said I was out of luck. She even suggested I contact Apple and find it out.
I told her this did not sound right. She should be able to look me up by name, or by email ID or by credit card number which I had supplied when I activated the plan from the device. She said she will check with a manager. Came back a couple minutes later and said she cannot help me without the MEID.  She was so sure about it.
I asked her if she could at least provide me the phone number for the phone. Which she did.
So I searched on the web again. Turns out that apple has a good article on the web site
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4061
You can get your serial number, phone number, MEID etc from itunes if you have ever backed up the ipad. Fortunately I had.
I then called the verizon 800 786 8419 number again.
This time it told me it connected me to the Colorado department of verizon.
I was able to enter the 10 digit phone number I had now.
This time I got connected to a customer rep who knew what she was doing. The whole transaction took a minute to finish. This is how it should have been.
She asked me the last 4 digits of my credit card number. Told me that she would refund the data plan and cancel automatic reactivation for future.
I wish they can train customer service employees better at Verizon. As much as I was loyal to Verizon for 10 years, I have to say ATT customer service is far superior after being with ATT for less than a couple years.

Great description of the problem, told without rancor.   I am glad that you finally received an appropriate resolution.  I, too, have just completed a needlessly complicated encounter  with Verizon over the iPad 2 and, thankfully, also had an appropriate resolution.   I work with the public and understand how easy it is to have a misunderstanding on both sides of the fence.   While I communicated my frustration over the situation, I didn't make any personal attacks and suspect that helped to get the deal done.   There were a few times I wanted to threaten Verizon with a switch to ATT but I was able to control myself with a few well timed "goosfraba".

  • Need help choosing a data plan!

I have a limited data plan for my new ipad2. If I plan to use it mostly for reading e-mail and downloading e-books (no streaming video, etc) is it worth paying for the unlimited data plan?

Anytime you are near and using a wifi source go to your settings and turn off your 3G.  The wifi use doesn't count towards your data package usage but I recommend turning the data (3G) off when wifi is available.

  • Verizon Data plan costs 80% more than AT&T's

Wow, so I am still in the 20th century when it comes to my cell phone...err, wireless device.  I don't have a smartphone yet and, of course, no data plan.  With the introduction of the iPhone 4 on Verizon, I figure that maybe it's time I get with it and buy a phone capable of delivering my work email to me where ever I am.  I'm finally willing to swallow the $29.99 for the Verizon data plan.  Not so, young grasshopper.  To get email from an Exchange server account, Verizon requires the "Corporate" data plan which is a whopping $45 per month!
So much for competition.  AT&T charges $25/month for 2GB of data, no matter how you have your email set up - POP, IMAP, Exchange, etc.  AH HA!...you say.  Verizon's plan is for UNLIMITED email and data, not only 2GB.  True, but here's the thing - by using both Verizon and AT&T data usage calculators, I will use less than 2GB of data based on how I expect to use the phone.
Why should I pay 80 frickin percent more for the same **bleep** thing?  Don't get me started about speed and multi-tasking either.  Oh, and what about dropped calls?  I probably average about 5 per day (in the LA metro area) with Verizon when I am out on appointments.
    Screw you Verizon.

    TedKord wrote:
Did you even read his post? He needs exchange email, so has to pay $45/month for the Verizon corporate plan. That's $20 more per month, not $5.
That said, he does have the option of going with ATT, even if for only the one phone. If you're due a new phone, you've gotta be within a few months of the contract end. By June, ATT wil probably be announcing the iPhone5. Might be worth the wait.
Thanks Ted.  I thought I stated my gripe pretty clearly.  I have been reasonably satisfied with Verizon, with the exception of their crappy choice of phones, and how they cripple the ones they have.  I just found it incredible that they charge 80% more for data than AT&T if you want email off an exchange server.  It's not like it costs them more to send and retrieve email this way - data is data.  I am most definitely NOT going to get the iPhone 4 now.  I'm going to wait for the iPhone 5 and then decide what I want to do.

  • Where do I buy an iPad data plan in Prague?

We're going to Prague, Czech Republic in September and I'm wondering where in Prague to purchase a data plan for my iPad3.  Also, if anyone has a link to a website for Czech Republic data plans that would be helpful. I plan to use wifi where available, but want to be connected to the internet while travelling. Thanks.

I found the answer to my question at:
