TabPlus, new tabs, don't open after typing in website addresses

I have used TabPlus (now called Tab Mix Plus) for years; I usually have quite a few tabs open; everything has worked perfectly until FF updated me to FF8, beta. Today, I tried to download & install version 8, newer than the Beta, but that did not help.
Tab Plus' new tabs, don't open after typing in website addresses; the cursor line to type in the next letter or word remains, blinking. I cannot open anything in any new tab that I have added by pressing down with the right mouse button and clicking on "New Tab (after this tab)."
As this problem did not exist in any version prior to 8, perhaps the developer has to do some updating. If not Firefox needs to fix some bug.
I have been with Mozilla FF since its beginning; it has been by favorite browser, but now, out of frustration, I have been using Chrome.
If you can solve this problem for me, I shall be happy to return FF to being my Default Browser.
All the best,
Carole (mhashev, my on-display name)

Is there a way to control the webpage that new tabs start at?

  • I am having two problems with tabs in FF 4.0.1: no close "x"; and new tabs don't open adjacent to active tab.

    I don't know if it's a glith with mine, a change in the software, or a setting that isn't set, but my tabs don't have an "x" to close them.
    Also, my previous version of Firefox opened a new tab adjacent to the active tab. Version 4.0.1 seems to have returned to the older standard of opening tabs at the end of the list. Is there a way to switch where new tabs open?

    You can reset the tab prefs on the about:config page in case they have been changed.
    * browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent
    * browser.tabs.closeButtons
    If you want a close X on the first tab if only one tab is open then set browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab to false.

    If you have tab related extensions then check their settings (Options).

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • New tab doesn't open after the latest update

    When I try to open a new tab nothing happens. I like to open a new tab before going to my bookmarks and opening one, so I can still have email open in one tab and other websites in other tabs. I can't open blank tabs now.

    Yes, that worked! Thanks Tony!

    The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
    Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
    To Reset Firefox do the following:
    #Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
    #Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
    #Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

  • How do I change my new tabs location from opening to bing?

    My home page is set to Google and want this to be the same for opening a new tab in a window. Right now when I open a new tab it is sent to bing and I do not find this search engine to be as useful. I I have a mac, I am not sure if that makes a difference.

    There's a hidden setting for new tabs; as you've noticed, they don't automatically follow your home page setting.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and enter your preferred page:
    * ''Page thumbnails (default)'' => about:newtab
    * ''Blank tab'' => about:blank
    * ''Built-in Firefox home page'' => about:home
    * ''Any other page'' => full URL to the page
    Press Command+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?
    Two gotchas:
    * If Firefox ignores the setting, one of your extensions may be overriding it. You can review, disable, and/or remove extensions on the add-ons page:<br><br>Tools menu > Add-ons > ''in the left column click'' Extensions
    * If the change works but at the next startup is back to Bing, you might have a user.js file in your personal Firefox settings folder (your Firefox profile folder). This article describes how to track down and remove the file: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    Any luck?

  • When I try to open something in a new tab, Firefox instead opens a file called as untitled.

    Hello David.
    It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
    Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
    If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
    If the problem is not disappears when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there.

    Firefox is coded to open new tabs in a blank page. That may change in Firefox 4. I don't know.
    In the meantime, there is an add-on called Tab Mix Plus that I think provides that option. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1122/

  • New Tabs are not opening

    After upgrading to Firefox 4, I had problems loading son my educational websites. So I decided to downgrade to 3.6.6. After 2 days of downgrading, I can't open new tabs. I press the + button, but nothing happens.
    Can someone help me with this please?
    Michael

    Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
    There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

  • New Tab Cursor postion change after downloading FF4

    Hi,
    Under FF version 3, when I opened a new tab, my homepage appears (Google) and the cursor automatically switches to the search box in the page.
    I am using an extension called New Tab Homepage 0.4.3 to do this.
    However, after updating to FF4, when I open up a new tab, the cursor now automatically switches to the address bar, not the search box in my homepage, which I'm finding really annoying!
    Is there a way to change this back?
    Is it a problem with the extension?
    Thanks anyone who helps!

    Whether the cursor goes to the Search Box or to the Address Box when you open a new tab is based on which page your browser opens when you open a new tab.
    If your browser is set to open
    http://en-US.start3.mozilla.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
    when a new tab is opened, the cursor will automatically go to the Address Bar.
    If your browser is set to open
    http://www.google.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
    when a new tab is opened, the cursor will automatically go to the Search Box.
    So, it just depends on which webpage opens when you select a new tab!
    To select which webpage opens, just go to the "Tools" Menu and select "Options." Under the "General" tab, you will see a URL (a webpage) which will open when you open your Home Page.
    I suppose, technically, the webpage you select in "Tabs Mix Plus" to open when you open a new tab is the important one -- but, since most people simply use their Home Page as the page to open, the Home Page in the Firefox Options is relevant. You could change the webpage to open in Tabs Mix Plus to one of the two pages noted above to determine which option you want when you open a new tab -- to have the cursor in the Address Bar or to have the cursor in the Search Box.

  • In FF 34.0.5 I use to be able to click on a link within an e-mail and the link would open in a new tab; it now opens in the same tab; how can i change it back?

    I'm using FF 34.0.5 (I like it). I use to be able to right click on a link, within an e-mail, and the link would open in a new tab. Now when I click on the link it opens in the same tab replacing my e-mail.
    Example - a friend sends me an e-mail containing a link to a web site he thinks I'd like. I click on the link and go to the web site and then go back to the e-mail tab and reply to him. Now, when clicking that link, my e-mail disappears and is replaced by the new site.
    How can I fix this? When this happened once before I was told to change the 'value' for a specific 'preference name' through the about:config page.
    Can anyone help jog my memory?
    Thanks!

    Is this about clicking a link in an external program?
    You can check this pref on the about:config page for external links.
    * browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external (-1)
    If this pref has the default value -1 then browser.link.open_newwindow is used.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.link.open_newwindow
    *1: current tab; 2:new window; 3:new tab;
    You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
    You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

  • I can not figure out how to set-up my home page so that it starts with Goggle, and then evrytime I open a new tab, it too opens with Goggle. TY 4 any help.

    [email protected]

    Firefox has always opened a blank new tab, if it opened to anything else that would be caused by an add-on. Check your add-ons to see if any offer this feature, or if any were disabled when you updated to Firefox 4.
    The NewTabURL add-on can be used to open a page of your choice in new tabs - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl
