Tabs are tearing away into new windows

Hello!
I'm having a recurring issue with my Acer laptop, using IE 11 for Windows 7: periodically, a tab will seem to 'stick' to my finger and fly off and become its own window. I'd love to stop this happening, or at least to figure out how to reintegrate it back
into the row of open tabs, to keep things to one browsing window.
Thanks a lot!

is there a specific place to drag it to?
I find it is trickiest to do when the tab bar is full. Try experimenting with a window which has only two tabs. Then in case this helps provide a bigger landing area, use the
Show tabs on a separate row option for a non-Fullscreen window. Alt-Space h (Alt-Space h in a Fullscreen window means something else.) Another tip that I have given before when answering this question
is: once you are doing the drag ignore thinking about what you are dragging and concentrate only on the fact that it is a new representation of your pointer. In terms of analogies with other drag procedures it is closer to dragging a tab among
tabs to change its position than it is to dragging a Favorite from your Links list up to be a button on your Favorites bar. The latter has a clear feedback mechanism that we can look for (the black bar); the former just sort of magically happen, although
I suppose when you do it slowly enough there is a transition phase to notice and look for. ; )

• Can't move tab to new window (tabs are locked) or open new window

Hello All,
I have updated Firefox to 28.0 and I am still having the issue with not being able to move tabs to individual windows, open individual windows or click on a web link to open a new window. If I right click on the link it will open in the window as a new tab but will not open as an new window. Can someone tell me if there is a lock on tabs/windows that freezes them? Please help.

Thank you for the input - unfortunately this did not change anything. I removed all extensions and even reloaded Firefox after cleaning out all the hidden files and I still experience the same. I can hit the [+] and get a new page but I cannot open a link in an email unless I right click and open to a new tab - although it will not allow you to open to a new window. you cannot grab a window that is open and pull it so that it is it's own separate window. I have tried this using a different application and it does work without any issue. I do not want to use this application because I like using Firefox -- any suggestions would be appreciated. Just do not know what to do to fix this.

• Why, when right click on some link the options "OpenLink in New Tab" and "Open Link in New Window" are exchanged?

Dear friend, the problem is that there is exchange of something very useful from users an this break them habits! I'm not interested of forced using of tools! Of course it's good that there is a tool to solve my problem, but this action make me unhappy.

• How Can I Stop Tabs from Opening in a New Window?

Since I updated to the newest version of Firefox, I am PLAGUED by a problem, and I can't get it to stop. When I return to Firefox and click on any tab, it almost always causes that tab to open in a new window. I understand this is a feature--drag a tab into the screen and it will cause that tab to open as a window, but I am not meaning to drag these tabs! I am using Firefox EXACTLY as I have used it for years, but for some reason, it seems to be interpreting my clicks differently--either I am dragging the tab a *tiny* bit, or it is simply registering that I have dragged the tab when I haven't. Is there a way to disable this feature? Or a way to decrease the sensitivity of the thing, so that you have to actually drag the tab all the way into the window before it opens as a new window? It is truly making me batty. I'm about to switch permanently to Chrome.
To be totally clear: this is happening when I am simply trying to switch from one tab to another.

You do not need to move your cursor much when pressing the mouse button to cause the tab to tear-off/tear-away into a new tab. No "sensitivity" setting that I am aware of. The tab in the new window can be dragged back to the original window.
To disable the feature, install this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bug489729-disable-detach-and-t/
*Read the information on the above page
*Set options for the add-on: Add-ons > Extensions, click Options next to the specific Extension (the 2 options are defined/explained in the above page).

• Tabs suddenly switch to a new window

Somehow with these newer versions of FF (I'm using the latest), every now and then I'll be in a tab, when suddenly the tab becomes a new window or instance of FF. This is very annoying, since now the tab and site are no longer loaded into one instance with all my other preferred tabs.
I have no idea what I am doing to produce this effect -- not accidentally hitting a key, it seems to happen when I am moving the cursor, but apart from that .... I don't know.
Anyone know why this is happening?

This can happen if the left button is pressed over a tab and the mouse is lowered beyond the tab bar. For eg. if you left click a tab, hold it and move the mouse towards the center of the window and release the button, the tab would change to a new window. To put it back, grab that new window tab, bring it towards the task bar over the icon of the previous Firefox window and when the previous Firefox window opens, put it in that tab bar.

• Tabs only open in a new window. Ctl T opens a new window NOT a new tab help-last update this problem started. How do I set FF back to open tabs in 1 window

Tabs only open in a new window. Ctl T opens a new window NOT a new tab help-last update this problem started 2 days ago. How do I set FF back to open tabs in 1 window?
There is no plus sign and going into optins and changing settings has not worked. I have uninstall FF and reinstall-keeping my personalization-and that was no help.
Right clicking on FF Icon to open a new tab, or going up to FF drop down tab and clicking on new tab both do not work.
Help everything opens a new window not a new tab. there seems to be no way to reset this or to chose a different optin. I just downloaded new tabs at end addon and it didn't do a thing.

as a first troubleshooting step - does it work like normally when you open & run firefox in safemode by pressing the shift key while you open firefox (all other instances have to be closed before)...

• Every time I try to open a new tab, it open a whole new window and i am ending up with 6 or 7 unmanagable things, please help.

every time I try to open a new tab, it opens a whole new window, which makes what I use firefox for completely unmanagable. I also updated it the other day and all the changes I made are gone!

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See Troubleshooting extensions and themes and Troubleshooting plugins
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

• Open in an new tab and open in a new window - both dissapeard

open in an new tab and open in a new window - both dissapeard
where have they dissapeard to?
how can i bring them back?
thanks !!!!!!!!!

Please press alt and tab and using tab to scroll through windows and see if the window you opened exist. If this happens every time you open a new window you may want to try safe mode:
Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

• An open tab suddenly is in a new window by itself in Firefox 28.0. Help!

Lately, when on a site (any) I notice at some point that the tab is now in a new window, when it was originally one tab among several in a different window. Can anyone tell me what might be happening and how to fix it? Thanks!

It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware. Look thru
your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is there for. Also,
Windows > Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Go thru the list and
use a web search to check any that you don't know what they are.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

• My tabs just keep making themselves new windows, why?

When I open a new tab and lets say I go on a website, my tab just makes itself a new window. I don't want the tab to make itself a new window and it can get really annoying PLEASE HELP ME!
Thanks

Make sure that you do not drag a tab slightly down in the browser window while clicking.
Current Firefox versions have a feature called tear-off tabs.
You can detach a tab from the current window and open it in a new window by dragging a tab in the browser window.
You can also do this via the right-click context menu of a tab: Move to New Window
You can drag that tab back to the tab bar in the original window to undo that detaching.

• Why the links are still opened in new windows?

Why the links are still opened in new windows even I selected the option to open in tabs?
This is one of the web I am reading (sorry that it is in simplified Chinese), I have no problems reading it in tabs in Firefox:
http://www.sodu.com.cn/mulu_30498.html

Hi,
How are you trying to open the windows? Safari does not default to opening new windows in tabs. It can open +external application+ links (e.g. from your email program, RSS viewer, etc) in a new tab, but not links from an existing website.
To open links in a new tab, you'll need to hold the ctrl key and click the link, or use the middle-mouse button if your mouse has one (or right-click on the link and choose to open it in a new tab).

• "Move To New Window" Does Not Work in Version 5. It opens a new window, but it's blank, and the tab I wanted as the new window stays where it is. Is this a bug?

Right mouse-clicking on a tab and selecting "Move To New Window" should open the contents of the tab in a new window, and then close the original tab on the original instance of FF. But in Version 5, that action simply spawns a new window that is totally blank, and the tab I wanted opened in a new window stays attached to the original window.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See Troubleshooting extensions and themes and Troubleshooting plugins

• Firefox4 "Open Link in new Tab" and "Open Link in new Windows" switch back to the old FF3 version

Am I the only one finding this annoying?
I want to know how to switch "open link in new tab" and "open link in new Windows" like it was in Firefox 3.
If you mousehover on a link and press the right mousebutton.

Sara, I started having the same problem yesterday. In my case I was able to remedy it by disabling FasterFox 3.9.81. If you don't have that installed, I would recommend turning off your extensions (one by one), restarting firefox, and testing until you find the offender. Hope that helps!
