Tabs being restored after closing them

Ever since i upgraded to one of the recent FF versions, i noticed this rather odd behaviour.
Lets say i have tab 1, followed by tabs 2-10 open. I close tab 1. At some point, i'm not sure when exactly, but i will notice that tab 1 is open again, but it will be positioned as the last tab.
What's going on here? I have no addons that could do this.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them).

  • Some tabs remain open after closing them

When I have opened a lot of tabs (10+) and I close them afterwards, sometimes a few of those tabs will still show in the tab bar. When I click them I can't view them though. It seems to be a problem with the tab bar, not with web pages.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Firefox tabs hang around after closing them

When I have multiple tabs open, and I close a tab, the tab browser still shows the page of the closed tab, while the tab is removed from the tab bar. The only way of changing the view is to navigate to the next tab. If there is a flash playing on the page, it continues to play until it's finished, even after you navigate to the next tab.

My iMac screen keeps showing pixels of previously opened documents and Safari tabs and hour or two after closing them.
Even when I swipe to the dashboard the outlines are still there when I know they should not be.
The shadow of those opened documents are still there hours later after shutting down and restarting my computer.
What is happening and what shall I do? Thanks in advance.

  • I have just purchased the iPhone 5s and my previous phone was backed up on iCloud. However when I restored this on my new phone my photos are still being restored after 4 days. Shows the amount there but no pictures?

I have just purchased the iPhone 5s and my previous phone was backed up on iCloud. However when I restored this on my new phone my photos are still being restored after 4 days. Shows the amount there but no pictures? Is there anything I can do to get them back as my other phone has now been cleared. On my iCloud storage it still shows that my previous phone had all the info still?? I'm confused!

Many users have lost photos while preforming a restore from backup or upgrading the iOS.   Recall, only photos in the camera roll are backed up to iCloud.  There is a way to turn backups for camera roll on/off, perhaps these users had camera roll turned off.
    See:
Settings>icloud>Storage & Backups>Manage Storage,  tap the device's name and on the next screen, be sure Camera Roll is turned on.
    IMPORTANT...
Photos should be regularly synced to a computer (like you store photos from a digital camera) using either USB via iTunes (on a mac use iPhoto or Aperture to move them to an album) or using photo stream.  If using Photo stream, but sure to move the received photos to a permanent album.  If you have been doing that, then you can sync those photos back to your device.
Or, you can find other apps in the app store that send camera roll photos to a service like Dropbox.
If you haven't been saving photos except relying on iCloud to store them in a backup, then that is risky, as many users have discovered.  I'm afraid I have no advice in this case - there is no "cure".

  • Losing windows from Firefox after closing them.

I have been using Firefox instead of Chrome for a long time as with Firefox it is easier to navigate through my tabs (unlike Chrome that lumps them together -- you can't even see the title of each tab if you have say, 20 tabs) and the fact that firefox only loads tabs on demand -- which saves me a lot of lag compared to Chrome that loads all tabs when you start it.
I'm an avid online shopper so I tend to open up close to 40 tabs per session/window for shopping, and then I would have another window open to do my work. Usually, I set my settings to 'Open tabs and windows from previous session' so I can open up my first window, then go to 'Recently closed windows' to open my second. It has been working perfectly, until today when my Firefox got updated. I would completely lose my first window no matter how much 'System restore' I did on my computer. (I close my windows in the sequence of second-first so that I can opne it the same way again)
Is there a way to fix this problem? I would hate to lose my important tabs and it would be a hassle if I had to mix the two together.

Which Operating System are you using as you appear to have posted with a mobile device?
It is best to use Firefox/File > Exit if you want to preserve all open windows.
If you first close each of the other windows then only the last closed window will be reopened.
Maybe Firefox updated to 25.0.1 and that has caused this to happen (a restart with only the last window opening)

  • Safari opens Tabs again, even after quitting them!

    Hi guys,
I'm having some annoying troubles with Safari for about 2 weeks now...
When I quit Safari, it should normally reload all my last opened pages (f.ex: google, facebook, apple and twitter), but instead it ALLWAYS reopens the same 2 tabs (some minecraft site + facebook). this is pretty annoying because it does not go away. I've allready tried everything... closing tabs with cmd-W before quitting safari, checking and unchecking the "reopen windows" setting (wich btw rechecks itself after I quit an reopen "system preferences").
anyone out there having the same problem?
    please help me
    thank you

Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to the state it’s in now. If you skip this step, no one but you will be responsible for the consequences.
    Quit Safari if it’s running.
Select /Applications/Safari in the Finder and open the Info window. There’s a checkbox in that window labeled “Open in 32-bit mode.” If that box is checked, uncheck it. Close the window.
Hold down the option key and select Go > Library from the Finder menu bar. Delete the following items from the folder that opens (some may not exist):
    Caches/com.apple.Safari
    Caches/Metadata/Safari
    Saved Application State/com.apple.Safari.savedState
Try Safari again. If it still doesn’t work right, quit again and move the following file to the Desktop:
    Safari/Bookmarks.plist
Then delete the following items (some may not exist):
    Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies
    Cookies/Cookies.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.Safari.LSSharedFileList.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist
    PubSub/Database
    Safari
Try again. This time Safari should perform normally, but your settings will be lost. Select File > Import Bookmarks from the Safari menu bar. Import from the bookmarks file you moved to the Desktop. Recreate the rest of your Safari settings. You can then delete the old bookmarks file.

  • Websites stay open in background even after closing them

    Hey everyone,
I've been having issues with firefox lately. Pretty much, it seems like Firefox is keeping websites open in the background even after I 'x' them out. For instance, if I start a video on Youtube and leave it running after leaving the page.. it will continue playing in the background. If I go on facebook, I will receive facebook messenges even when it's not open on any tab. The various plug-ins for firefox never close and I have to manually force-quit them or they hog all of my CPU. The only solution I have so far is to close and restart firefox more routinely than I would like.
I'm also having a problem with entering websites into the address bar. Basically, new windows won't work for typing in websites. The solution I've found is to disable ANY of my add-ons (it doesn't matter which).. then I will be able to use the address bar for that window.
I am using the latest version of Firefox. The plug-ins I use are:
    Ad block 2.64
    Download status bar 10.6.0
    Monitor master 5.2
    No script 2.6.8.36
Open link in new tab 0.1.201407301
    PDF viewer 1.0.277
    Session manager 0.8.1.5
    Super tab mode 1.85
    URL fixer 4.1
    Mac OSX 10.9.3
Please help! I want to continue using firefox but this is getting annoying!
    Thanks!!

  • 87 tabs are restored after each restart even after clearing cache

firefox onVISTA Restores 87 tabs even after clearing cache: This takes a long time to restart

Clearing the cache might not help, try the following:-

  • Certain applications re-open at login even after closing them

Hi there esteemed support-forum users! Hopefully someone might be able to help me out with this before I resort to the Genius Bar.
I'm running Lion on my new MBP (13" 2.7GHz i7 4GB, not that I think it matters) and have been impressed with the GUI improvements overall, and most of the features it offers. However, there are a couple of small niggles which are gradually escalating into annoyances.
The first of which, is that on login I'm greeted with VLC, iTunes, and Safari all auto-running. I assumed this was due to Lion's 'reopen windows' feature, since none of them are in the 'login items' list on sysprefs. However, on restarting with the check-box for reopening windows turned off, they still appear. This regardless of whether I manually quit the applications first.
Also, after these applications open there's a 30 second or so pause, before a Finder window opens up directed at a random folder inside the package contents of the Steam application. Similarly to the applications, this window appears even if I manually close it, turn off 'reopen windows', and restart.
Any help greatly appreciated. Bit disappointed that there are problems this obvious with Lion (can't really use the "it's a brand new OS" excuse anymore).
    Cheers!

    Hi there,
Thanks for the help. It didn't fix it: but I have since worked out what the problem was.
As well as the login issues, Finder was consistently forgetting that I had changed my desktop background to something other than the Lion-galaxy. I had thought this was a different issue: but then I noticed that between logins it had also forgotten my Finder-side-bar rearrangement and some Firewall changes.
I guessed such changes would be stored in the user library, and I had been having some problems with permissions previously. So I un-hid the User->Library folder and ran 'ACL Repair' on it. Sure enough everything now works smoothly. I hope!

  • How do I make firefox focus on the left tab by default after closing a tab?

In all Firefox versions before 3, when closing a tab, focus automatically goes to the tab to the left of the viewed tab. This was consistent with the way Firefox opened tabs, which was to the right.
For example: I have 3 tabs, ABC.
I'm currently viewing tab B, and open a new tab using a link.
Now I have tabs ABDC, with focus on D. Once I'm finished looking at D, I close tab D and should be viewing B again. Current settings eject me to tab C, which is unrelated.
Is there a way to revert this behavior?

  • DRM Keys Restore after Losing them

    Hi,
I unlocked my bootloader with Sony Official Video Guide two days ago in order to get root access and being able to install custom Recovery Kernel.
But in the video Nothing was said about Trim Area (TA Partition) or DRM Keys losing.
Even There was nothing said about File Losing (That i Lost my everything on my internal storage).
After Unlocking Process i understood i Can't receive Update Center Updates!
I made a thread in XDA and they told me that your DRM keys which enables you to receive OTA Updates have been lost and it's impossible to regain.
Here's  my question: Despite Nothing was told about DRM keys in Sony's Official BL Unlocking Video Can i regain My DRM Keys and relock my bootloader ? because im so regreted now.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

And it does say you will loose DRM keys in the Risks section which you were supposed to read before moving forward and requesting your unlock key

  • Saving tabs? reopen after closing safari...

Is there some addon that I could use to save my open tabs over sessions? With OmniWeb and Safari w/ Saft it's possible to close the app and have all tabs reappear the next time the browser is opened. (Also handy for crashes; Saft has a crash protection which asks to bring up all lost tabs after a crash.)
And yes, I know I can bookmark tabs, but that would generate a new entry everytime I close the browser...

Why can't you just use Saft? File --> Save browser window.

  • Files not available for editing after closing them

User will close a file, but not In Design itself. No matter how long he waits, he cannot then re-open and edit or re-name that file until he reboots his computer. This happens regardless of whether the file is local or network based. It's also not file-specific, it happens no matter what file he works on. A couple of Dreamweaver users have complained about this too. The In Design user is on CS6 (CC) and the DW users are on CS5. All users on Windows 7 Professional (x64) and x64 version of their respective CS suite. Other than trashing the prefs, any other suggestions? Any help is appreciated.

  • Wifi (WPA-PSK) not restored after sleep?  (10.4.10)

    Hi,
Has anyone else noticed that their Wifi connection is not being restored after the MacBook comes back from a sleep?
I'm using a 2006 white MacBook (Core Duo) with 10.4.10, connecting to a Cisco 877W ADSL router using WPA-PSK. Cisco firmware version is (C870-ADVSECURITYK9-M), Version 12.4(4)T7, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1), "flash:c870-advsecurityk9-mz.124-4.T7.bin" which seems to be current.
From a cold boot, there is no problem connecting to the wireless router, but after a sleep, the connection is not restored, and the router syslog shows repeated unsuccessful authentication attempts from the Macbook's MAC address.
Connecting manually to the correct network SSID doesn't resolve the problem: it just prompts for the WPA PSK keyphrase, which doesn't work if entered. Of course the correct keyphrase is already in the keychain.
As a workaround, switching the Macbook's Airport off and on again a few times eventually seems to get it working again, but it's slow and very clunky.
Can anyone else confirm this problem? It seems to have been introduced with 10.4.10, but I would like independent confirmation before reporting this to Apple, as I changed the wireless router around the same time as the 10.4.10 update appeared.
    Thanks,
    - Martin.
PS: I guess there are two morals to this story...
    1) Always clone your hard drive to a Lacie drive with SuperDuper before installing any Apple updates - so that you can back out any buggy updates without a full reinstall.
    2) Don't install any Apple updates within 2 weeks of installing other network changes - so that you can tell what's caused any issues.

The WPA auth problem still exists on a clean install of Leopard (and a full reboot is needed to clear it every time the laptop comes out of sleep) so I'll ring Apple Support and see if they can at least add it to their known issues list, in the hope of resolution later. It's quite likely that downgrading to WEP would be a workaround, but WEP is just not acceptable from a security perspective.
