Tabs opening on their own

Whenever I click to open a window, such as clicking on the "ask a question" that started this process, two or three tabs will open on their own. Frequently they are Wizard101 and Download Iliv, or similar sites. These are sites I have no interest it. This happens all day long. Every time I click in a box to fill it in or click on a "learn more now" tab or just about anything I try to do will trigger these tabs to open. I have looked through my programs and add-ons and I can find no excuse for this. I have also ran several scans with my TrendMicro program with no luck. Please help me fix this problem.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

  • Tabs open on their own.

While my computer is idle, a tab in Firefox opens on its own leading to an advertisement site. Why does this happen and how can I prevent this?

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.
You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.

  • For about seven months I have pop ups and tabs openning on their own, asking me questions and showing me what I didn't ask to be shown.

For about seven months now (from June 2013) I have pop ups asking me private question while masking themselves according to the results of my browsing. Sometimes they're streaming "news" and other stuff that I didn't ask for. It also may be tabs and not pop ups, that are doing the same. First I was thinking that this is kind of "infection", but all my screenings failed to detect anything answering that my computer is clean. I considered changing the browser, but my computer is weak and your browser is light, differently from Microsoft's one. So now I just close those things as quickly as I can. But, sometimes, when I walk away, it shows whole "movies" to no one, while wasting my resources and quotas.
I just wonder if it is possible to get rid of this stuff. Is it infection or part of the design? And in case it is an "infection", is anybody interested to investigate in order to protect your browser from similar attacks in the future?

Your "More System Details" didn't include information on your extensions, but one of those could be responsible.
Could you check for unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt that something is valuable and useful, disable it.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Does that change how Firefox behaves?

I got my iPhone 5 almost a month ago and updated its iOS but from there on I started having problems, the ph sometimes doesn't respond at all to the touch or apps start to open on their own very rapidly and this continues till it can go no further!

    First steps in troubleshooting:
Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Then reset: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go. (No data loss)

Having issues with my MacBook. Even when the internet is disconnected, apps are still closing and opening on their own. I sometimes do not have control over my cursor.....any suggestions?

There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until it's resolved. Some may not be apply in your case.
    1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable. A damaged or defective AC adapter could be the cause, even if it's the right kind.
    2. Open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and delete all pointing devices other than the trackpad, if applicable. Disconnect any USB pointing devices. By a "pointing device," I mean a peripheral that moves the cursor, such as a trackpad, mouse, trackball, or graphics tablet. A plain keyboard is not a pointing device.
    3. Start up in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you restart as usual, stop here and post your results. Do the same if you can't start in safe mode. If there was no difference in safe mode, go on to the next step.
    4. Reset the System Management Controller.
    5. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
    6. A swollen battery in a portable computer can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
    7. Press down all four corners of the trackpad at once and release. If there's any effect, it's likely to be temporary, and the unit needs to be serviced or replaced.
    8. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to  behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
    9. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
    10. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
    11. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested.

Assuming you mean a an iTunes store purchase such as music, video or apps, the recipient does not have to have an iTunes account. However, they have to be in the same country as the giver. See the: iTunes Cards and Codes>Gift Options on the following site:

  • New websites do not open in their own tab when left-clicked, despite setting up Firfox to do so - links OK however

From the Google search results , if I left-click a site, firefox does not open new site in a new tab. I have accessed tools/options/tabs and the ticked the box to open new windows in their own tab.

    Use Ctrl left click
    * or right click and use open in new tab
The open in tab option you have selected is for where the action would otherwise open a new window.

  • How do I delete a toolbar that was added by a plugin? Plug-in's been uninstalled, but the toolbar is still there and any new tabs open on their search engine (even though I have Tab Mix set to open tabs on a duplicate page). Help?

Running Firefox on Windows XP3. I installed a plugin from Savevid.com, which they now require. (I've used that site for at least a year with no problem ever.) Everything was fine but it added a toolbar to my browser, and it seems to have reset Firefox somehow so that any new tab opens on "Searchqu", some low-rent search engine. I uninstalled the plug-in altogether, but the toolbar is still there, and I can't make the reset on the search engine go away. I use Tab Mix Plus (also never had this problem before with it), but no matter what I do, the tabs will not open to anything other than searchqu. (Tab Mix has the option to open to a duplicate tab - what it was using BEFORE all this - but changing that no longer has any effect.)
Anyone know how to deal with a problem like this?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

  • Everytime I close a tab a new blank tab opens on its own.

    Hi,
I'm using Firefox 6.0.2 and it's a while that I'm facing this problem. Anytime I click the little X to close the tab (sometimes I have to click it 2-3 times) it closes the tab but a new blank tab opens itself. For example when I start with 1 tab, open 3 tabs from that page so I have 4, I want to go to another site and close everything about my first site. Then Firefox gives me the new site + 4 blank tabs that can't be closed.
When I open Firefox it works well but after 10-15 minutes or I don't know maybe 1 hour or so this problem appears.
I did not install any new plugin or extension (maybe updated my existing plugins) .
It's not a virus, malware or anything. I'm using Avast home edition (Free) and it updates itself every day several times. I also scanned my system with tdsskiller (read on a forum that solves the problem, but it didn't).
I'm using firefox for years, but this problem is happening only from a week ago.

do you have any toolbars or extensions installed in windows control panel > software or in firefox addons-manager > extensions, that might cause this behaviour? try running firefox in [[Safe Mode]] (close all other instances of firefox and open the browser while holding the shift key) and see if the problem is persisiting there to diagnose the issue...
''edit: you also have the "Fun Web Products Plugin Stub for 32-bit Windows" plugin installed, that comes bundeled with some toolbars''
from the system details you've submitted it appears that you are using a out of date version of firefox and a out of date version of the java plugin - both are a severe security issue! there were [https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html dozens of vulnerabilities fixed] since the release of firefox 6. and java versions before 6 update 31 are vulnerable to drive-by-infections (your pc can get infected with malware by simply visiting a website), which are widely exploited in the wild.
i'd recommend that you update both programs as soon as possible: visit getfirefox.com &, java.com; and although you already have a working anti-virus software in place, i'd suggest that you run another full scan of your system with the free anti-malware tool from www.malwarebytes.org in addition (tdsskiller was just a scanner for rootkits).

  • Why do apps open on their own?

I have a Mac Mini with Mountain LIon.
Almsot daily one or two apps or more will boot up on their own.
    Why?

    Hi,
    An Example.
At Computer Start Up and background support app for the Messages and FaceTime Apps called IMAgent also starts up.
This "Listens" for Off Line Messages if you have set Messages up for iMessages, AIM and some Jabber Servers.
It also "Listens" for calls to the ID you are using in FaceTime.
That is to say that you should have already set up these apps.
If FaceTime is set to On in the Preferences but is not Started up then an Off Line call can start up the app.
    It is similar in Messages
As Indicated the FaceTime app can be set to Off.
The Messages App as a setting in Messages Menu > Preferences > General Section about "When I Quit, Set the Status to Off Line"  when this box is ticked IMAgent will not start up the app with Off Line Messages.
As you say "Almost Daily" I an presuming that this is not on Computer Start Up ?
if that is happening it it set in System Preferences > Users and Groups > Your account > Login Items.

  • Tabs keep opening on their own even though I only work in new windows.

Since the last Thunderbird update I'm having trouble with random(?) emails opening in tabs, even though I don't use tabs. It's annoying to have to keep closing all these tabs that I didn't open and don't even use in any way. It's a distraction. I'd just disable the tabs bar altogether if that was possible, but I guess it's not an option.
In Tools-Options-Advanced-Reading&Display, I have selected "Open messages in - a new message window", as it's been for a long time. When I click on an email, that setting works normally. I've read that double-clicking an email can cause it to open in a tab, but I can't reproduce that behavior, so I don't believe that's the cause. When I notice the random open tabs, its usually right after starting up Thunderbird for the day. There are usually three open email tabs. I don't leave emails open when I close the program at night - I just haven't figured out a pattern or cause for this annoying behavior. Seems like a bug to me, and I can't seem to stop it from happening. Any ideas?

  • How do I stop random tabs from opening on their own?

ok, every time I open firefox it opens my usual tabs and everything's fine. But after a while for no reason at all it'll just open a random tab so some random website relevant to what I'm looking at or searching at the time. For example I was looking up how to make a visual arts portfolio, and it randomly opened a site that I could buy portfolio covers from. Overall it's just extremely annoying.
I've done several things to try and remedy the problem such as uninstalling and reinstalling firefox, using various addons such as addblock plus, BlockSite, NoScript, an AVG toolbar, as well as running various virus and malware scans using Malware Bytes, AVG, Spybot S&D, Avast, and Combo Fix. So far nothing has worked, obviously. So now I'm down to the point of frustration, because I can't figure out what the problem is, and neither can my computer geek friends. Help would be really appreciated.

  • How to stop adverts opening on their own when googling

whenever i google, like when I'm researching for college work, random advertisements open whenever i click a link, in a new tab. it is sometimes adverts, sometimes saying I've 'won' and sometimes that mac keeper. how do i stop this from happening? it is driving me crazy! also on some pages certain words on the site and capitalised (individual words) and underlined and are blue so they are hyper linked and if i hover my mouse over the word there is an advert linked to it! anybody any ideas? Many Thanks

    First try
Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac
    Next:
Adwaremedic: Removes all known adware from your Mac
If you can't download it since the malware is preventing it then see:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-7792
However, if you have prevent popups checked in Safari's preferences it is likely just javascript on the sit doing that. You can get extensions that prevent javascript but a lot of javascript is necessary for the sites to perform their function.

  • How to make pictures not resize when opened in their own window.

I just upgraded to Safari v3 and despite all the good changes I've found one frustrating thing. In the old version when I opened a picture in its own window and it was bigger than what could fit in the window it wouldn't resize. It just came up as a full-resolution image. But with the new version, it does the thing that I hated with internet explorer and resizes it to fit the screen. It's not a big deal but it's enough to bug me.
I've searched the preferences menus and this discussion board, but I still can't find a way to change it back to the old way of not adjusting.
Is it even possible or will I have to get used to it?
    Thanks!

  • Ad pages open on their own and screen is unresponsive.

I have even erased my iPad and started over.  At times the screen is unresponsive.  Other times, the iPad starts typing on its own, pages flash open and closed. Even pages I've never opened, to my knowledge, start popping up.
    Hardware issues?

If you erased and restored the iPad, then I would assume that it is a hardware issue. Make an appointment at an. Apple Store and ask them to take a look at your iPad.
