Tabs won't save when closing the browser

After updating to the latest firefox 33.0.2 it won't save my tabs or automatically reopen them the next time I open firefox. I already checked my settings and they are not the problem.

Does Firefox create a new sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder (i.e. the file has a current time stamp)?
You can check for problems with the sessionstore files (sessionstore.js) files in the profile folder that store session data.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
Current Firefox versions also keep backups in the sessionstore-backups folder.

  • How do I configure Firefox 4.01 to save all tabs when closing the browser?

In the previous version 3.x.y of Firefox, when I closed the browser, it asked me if I wanted to save my open pages / tabs before closing. When I subsequently opened the browser again, it reloaded all the previously open tabs / pages. In version 4.01, before closing the browser warns me that I am closing multiple tabs but when I restart the browser again, it does not load the previously open tabs. How do I configure the browser to behave like the old 3.x.y version, i.e. neatly saving all the open tabs and loading these again when opening restarting the browser?

Hi TonyE, this was a very useful reply. The first part of your answer had already been posted by someone else. Your answer in particular shows the nitty gritty detail of how to automate it. I had searched in the options already but had not found step 3 above yet. But I have found it now and have changed it from "Home page" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time".
Thanks a lot for letting me know this solution and making me aware of the drop down list.

  • Is there a way to close a pinned tab without unpinning it or closing the browser completely?

when i have one of my pinned tabs opened and i open a new tab, i cant find a way to close the pinned tab without closing the browser completly.
is there a way to close a pinned tab?
    thanks.

You can also middle-click a tab to close that tab and that also works for pinned tabs.

  • Has version 4 eliminated the save tabs and quit when closing the browser?

I had the beta version of firefox 4, but now that i got the latest version 4.0, I no longer receive the option of saving my open tabs when I close the browser window. I am only warned that I am going to close them or I can cancel. I there any way I can save the open tabs?

You can set the warn prefs on the about:config page to true via the right-click context menu or toggle with a double left-click.
    * browser.showQuitWarning, see http://blog.zpao.com/post/3174360617/about-that-quit-dialog
    * browser.tabs.warnOnClose, see http://kb.mozillazine.org/About%3Aconfig_entries
    * browser.warnOnQuit , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnQuit
    * browser.warnOnRestart , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnRestart
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
You can use Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session to get back the previous session.
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default about:home Home page.
    Another possibility is to use:
*Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • Forms process won't stop after closing the browser

I am running the Forms (904) in the application server. When I close the browser, the forms process (on the server) ifweb90.exe won't stop on the server.
Is there a message that can be catched when the browser is closed? thanks.
I am running the forms on XP.

    Hi,
the forms processes on the middle tier will stop when the listener servlet recognises that the client applet doesn´t exist anymore.
The amount of time the listener servlet needs to recognize that the client applet doesn´t exist anymore depends on the "heartbeat" and the "timeout" Parameters configured in the formsweb.cfg Configuration File of the Oracle Webforms Installation.
Normally you don´t have to worry about these parameters their default values will fit the most environments.

  • After upgrading to firefox 4 it seems it lost it's feature to retain tabs when exiting multiple tabs when closing the browser.

Before upgrading to the newer firefox 4 I use to exit with multiple tabs opens that had a "save and continue" feature where when upon starting up again it will bring up the tabs I had when I closed it which saved me headaches to always to bookmark and finding it and opening it again as I have 100s of bookmarks. Is there anyway to implement this feature into firefox 4 or does it still have it that I just have no knowledge of using it?

I've reverted to 6.0.2 which you can still get here:
    ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/
    and everything works fine again.
I'll wait until they sort it out before updating again

  • How do you stop Firefox from suddenly getting an error message saying tabs are still open when opening the browser??

We have a MAC OS X 10.6.8 and all of the sudden when we close out of Mozilla (both by using the red x and also using "quit") the next time we open Mozilla it has a "well this is embarrassing" Error screen and asks us if we want to re-open our last session. Then it will have whatever email, webpage, fb page, etc that we were on and we can either close it or reopen it.
This started last week, we have had the computer 2 years and have never had this problem before. I tried re-starting Mozilla and after a few hours it started doing it again.

hello, this should be addressed in a later version of firefox. as a workaround in the meanwhile you could try this: enter '''about:config''' into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash'''. double-click it and change its value to '''false'''.

  • Portal not closing session when closing the browser window

    Hi,
We have a problem in portal where the user logs onto Portal with their userid/password and has another window opened eg. www.google.com.
The user then closes their browser(x) on IE, but still has the other session opened. (www.google.com)
Later the user tries to logon to Portal, but is not prompted with their userid/password, and is taken directly into Portals.
This is a problem, we want the users to always be prompted with their userid/password.
    Thanks
    Sushanth

If the second browser session is a child of the first (e.g. started via Ctrl-N) the session context is inherited, including session cookies (here: MYSAPSSO2), which are relevant for user authentication against the portal.
    That's how IE works.
If the second browser is a new instance and the session cookie is set in this browser session as well, it's a browser bug. Try to update OS and/or IE.

  • Error when closing FF browser: "The instruction at ..... referenced memory at ...... The memory could not be written"

i have FF 23.0.1, when i close the browser [Press the X on the top right] i get the error: "The instruction at ..... referenced memory at ...... The memory could not be written"
    I have windows XP.
The issue occurs only when closing the browser, does not happen when opening it.

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

  • Cannot save opened tabs before closing the browser

Cannot save opened tabs before closing the browser. I do not know if there is such a feature (should be), and how to activate it.
It was very useful with previous version.

One change in Firefox 4 is to by default stop Firefox displaying the warning message, but it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''browser.tabs.warnOnClose''', if its value is set to '''false''', double-click on it to change its value to '''true'''
    # Repeat this for these 3 preferences '''browser.warnOnQuit''', '''browser.warnOnRestart''' and '''browser.showQuitWarning'''
If you always open the last set of tabs an alternative approach is this:
    # Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
    # Go to the General panel
    # Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

    Dear sir,

  • How do I tell FiIrefox to only restore a sesson of more than one tab, and disregard the restore of a single tab session (ie. closing the browser)

I am on the beta channel of Firefox (currently 17.0, by the about window) and I cannot seem to find a way to limit the size of a browsing session that is automatically restored when re-opening the browser. In the past, Firefox would only save sessions of more than one tab when closing the entire application, and ask me about restoring said session when restarted. Now, Firefox seems to treat a session of just a single tab the same, which is a preference I dislike, given that I use a blank start page to great effect.
I am using a number of addons, including Tab Mix Plus, which specifically modifies tab behavior (although I have it configured to use Firefox's default session manager), but the problem persists even with all addons disabled.
I cannot seem to find an option in about:config to change this behavior. Is this a permanent change within Firefox, and if so, is there or will there be an option to specify the number of tabs that constitute a session that will be automatically saved?

Make sure that Firefox closes properly to prevent session restore from restoring a crashed session.

Well, with more testing and my buddy's help, what I've learned is that the "Save and Quit" tabs dialogue takes precedence over the warning for closing multiple tabs.
By having browser.showQuitWarning set to true, it will ask me to save and quit - but not if "Show my windows and tabs from last time" is selected for Firefox startup, which makes the prompt for save and quit (and close multiple tabs warning) redundant. It will just save for you upon quitting.
And had I turned off that browser.showQuitWarning manually or by checking "Do not ask next time" on the save and quit dialogue, then the warning for closing multiple tabs would appear upon attempting to close multiple tabs, since I have that warn option set in my tabs settings.
It's one or the other, save and quit OR warning for closing multiple tabs.
It would be nice though if there weren't a conflict between the close multiple tabs warning and the quit Firefox dialogue.
So, I hope this can help anyone else who may be confused or accidentally change options and potentially screw themselves over. After all, I may have sustained a self-inflicted wound in the settings.
