Tabular Connection - Blank Power view generation is taking time.

Hello Team, Got a question over the Power view report creation with the default settings.
We are having two tabular model connection files (bism) which were created in the SharePoint.
By using the Connection 1, It is taking around 6 seconds to have the blank power view report created wit this connection.
When we tried to create a power view report from Connection 2, It is taking around 30 seconds to have the blank power view report ready.
Questions:-
. What is the reason for having this much time deviation for having the blank power views created between two connections?
. Is there any power view/tabular model properties can be changed to get the better performance for the second connection?
Please try to provide your view on this.

You could try profiling your Analysis Server.

  • My Macbook Pro ran out of battery last night and wouldn't turn back on even when connected to power for a period of time. However, when I woke up, it did turn on. Is there a reason this happened and should I get it looked at?

Last night, I was watching something on my Macbook Pro and it died (out of battery). I went to plug it in and waited a couple of minutes to try and start it back up. However, when I connected the power source the light was green, which could not have been the case since I know 100% it was out of battery. I proceeded to hold the start button for a long period of time, but my computer made no noise and refused to turn on - it looked like for all intensive purposes it was dead. I left it alone overnight praying that it would be alright in the morning and luckily, when I opened the computer this morning it was restarted and fine. I'm concerned because I've had this happen to me a couple of times and while it always turns back on, I feel like there is a bigger issue that I need to get addressed. Can anyone help me with this? Any ideas? Thank you!

Apple recommend calibrating the battery when you buy a new Macbook and then every few months, or monthly if it used on mains all the time. This, as Apple says is to keep the battery operating at maximum efficiency. When the battery discharges and shuts the macbook down, it still has reserve power for a good number of hours. There is also a logic board battery to hold various settings.

  • Query accessing SSAS cube is taking more time in power view report

    Hi,
My SSAS server is having 16 Core's . I have created a power view in sharepoint site, which is accessing ssas cube.
The report is taking more time to show the result.  I traced the DAX query using SQL Server profiler. When I ran this DAX query in SSAS server directly, then its taking less time but when the same query running from sharepoint server (power view) , it
is taking more time. Number of records in the fact table is 300M .
Also i tracked the %process time in performance monitor, mostly the line is below 20%. I think the CPU is not fully utilized..
Could you please help me to improve the performance of my report.
    Regards,
    Arun

    Hi Arun,
According to your description, you create a PowerView report in SharePoint site connect to SSAS cube, the problem is that it take long time to show the result in the report, now you want to improve report performance, right?
In your scenario, you said that it takes more time to return the result in PowerView report than run the query directly in SSMS. For a report, its run time contain retrieval data time and render report time. So it takes more time to return the result in
PowerView report than run the query directly in SSMS. And there are 300M records in the fact table, the performance can be caused by large data. Here is a blog which describes tracks down Power View performance problems.

  • Error trying to create a Power View report against a Multi Dimensional SSAS cube

    Hi all,
We have installed the Power View For Multidimensional Models CTP, released last November 27 on our Analysis Server instances.  I am now trying to create a Power View report in SharePoint that is connected to a Multi-Dimensional cube.
I have followed the instructions diligently:
    1. Install the CTP
    2. Created a data connection of type "Microsoft BI Semantic Model for Power View" (see attachment #1)
    3. Tested that the connection was valid (all is good here!)
I then select the "Create Power View Report" option from the data connection that I created above.
The Power View GUI appears, and then throws an error:
    Error text:
"An error occurred while loading the model for the item or data source 'http://server/site/SalesVarianceAnalysis_MDX.rsds'. Verify that the connection information is correct and that you have permissions to access the data source."

    Kenny_I

    Hi Kenny_I,
As per my understanding, I think this issue may be caused by your colleague has no permission to access to data source 'EntityDataSource', it is a Kerberos issue. When report server uses ‘Windows authentication (integrated) or SharePoint user’ as the credentials
to access the data source 'EntityDataSource', the authentication would be failed.  So we should try to check if the issue is in this scenario. If in this case, we should change the credentials to stored credentials.
Besides, if we don’t configure C2WTS Service Account to use Local System, it needs the following local policy rights:
Act as part of the operating system.
    Impersonate a client after authentication.
    Log on as a service.
For more details, please refer to the following blog:

  • Remove Blank Values from Slicer in Power View

    Hi all,
I am trying to create a power view report from a power pivot data model. After creating the model when I try to use the slicer in power view I am seeing the Blank record. Then I checked that dimension in model where I don't have any blank value in there.
Also I checked in fact table where it has a relationship with that dimension and I don't see any blank value there as well.
I am currently blocked with this issue. Experts please jump in and give some ideas how to remove blank value from there.
    Thanks

As MM-99 already stated correctly, the BLANK-member is created if there is one or more non-matching row in your fact-table that does not exist in the dimension-table
maybe you have some issues with upper and lower case?
or maybe there are some whitespace characters contained in the text?
to identify the issues you may want to create a calcuated column in your fact-table as =RELATED('DimTable'[MyKeyColumn])
then you can filter on that column and see if any blank values appear

  • Cannot connect to specific Cube through BI Semantic Model for Power View in SharePoint 2013

I'm trying to create a connection to an Analysis Services Cube through a BI Semantic Model connection in SharePoint 2013 to create a Power View report. I'm able to connect to other cubes on the same server, and I have SQL Server 2012 SP1 Update 9 installed
so it's not a versioning issue.
I've captured a log of two different connection attempts to show this in action. I can't post links, but just send me a message if you need it, just in case there's any interest in it. The first is a successful connection to an alternate cube
on the same server, and the second is an unsuccessful attempt that produces and error with "Internal error: An unexpected exception occurred.".
On the SharePoint side, the error is reported as:
Internal error: An unexpected exception occurred. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.DataExtensions.AdomdTestConnectionException: Internal error: An unexpected exception
    occurred.
This cube was working the previous day, but it has since been edited and it no longer works now but there's no clear reason why. It can still be queried directly through SSMS with MDX queries, and produces no errors.
    Any help is much appreciated,
    Ryan

    Hi Ryan Myers,
According to your description, when you tried to connect to an Analysis Services Cube in SharePoint 2013 through BI Semantic Model, you get the error message: Internal error: An unexpected exception occurred. But the MDX queries works fine in SSMS.
It's hard to give you the exact reason that cause this issue based on the limited information, please validate if the connection string is correct. Besides, we can troubleshoot this issue by using the Windows Event logs and msmdsrv.log.
We can access Windows Event logs via "Administrative Tools" --> "Event Viewer".  SSAS error messages will appear in the application log.
The msmdsrv.log file for the SSAS instance that can be found in \log folder of the instance. (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSAS11.MSSQLSERVER\OLAP\Log)

  • Power View RDLX File Format - Connect to Source in SharePoint

I am currently trying to Open (and Edit) a Power View Report which i create on Excel, on my System, and then Upload with the workbook on SharePoint.
I have followed the following Tutorial in Order to accomplish this:
Configure Excel Services data refresh - External Data Source
After doing so, i was able to succesfully open my First Sheet (Power Pivot Sheet) from the Excel Workbook which i had uploaded, i noticed something about a Trusted File Location with the Excel Service on Central Admin (SharePoint) one had to Configure, i
    did that as well,
but whenever i press the Power View Sheet, i get the following Error Message:
(-Used to get this error for the PowerPivot Sheet as well, but that got fixed after solving everything as said in the Tutorial, but it still remains whenever i open the Power View Sheet)
    Which basically reads:
    Error while refreshing external Data
    The Data Connection File used
    in the Workbook
    DataSource.odc
    Does not provide for a
    Trusted Storing Location.
    Error refreshing data from
TabularModel (Basically the Connection Name of the Connection created in Excel (and afterwards exported as DataSource.odc on SharePoint)
    At least one Data Connection
    in this Workbook could
    not be refreshed, the following
    Connection could not be refreshed
    TabularModel
Has anybody ever been able to Upload a Power View Report, Created on Excel, to SharePoint, and connect that to a External Datasource ?
in the MSDN Tutorial, they said this was possible through this exported .ODC Connection file, but it only work good for PowerPivot and other Excel stuff, not Power View
Thanks a lot for your Help in Advance, always deeply appreciated

  • How to migrate Power View reports and respective BISM connections from one SharePoint environment to another?

    Hello All,
We have a few Power View reports and respective BISM connections that need to be migrated from our DEV SharePoint 2013 site to our TEST Sharepoint 2013 site. The reports have been "migrated" over but they do not work. Eventually, I just recreated
all the Power View reports from the BISM connections.
We have to do one more Sharepoint migration, and I'd rather not have to recreate the reports. What do we need to do in order to migrate the Power View reports seamlessly?
    Thanks,
    Carter

I created a new BISM in the new SharePoint site with the same name and modified the cinneciton string in the report and uploaded the PowerView Reports ( download from the existing SP site ).
Please see the below link to modify the connection string in the PowerView report.

I have a 4th generation ipod classic (click wheel) and it's giving me a sad ipod error as well as not mounting in itunes... I hear a clicking inside when it is connected to power but nothing is working. Help!

You won't believe this but a friend of mine (who happens to be an Apple Genius) told me to put a towel or cloth on a sturdy countertop (I know this may sound weird) but hold the selct button (in the center) and menu part of the wheel at the same time until an Apple logo comes up on the screen and then quickly turn the ipod on it's side and wack it on the counter where the towel is so as not to damage anything cosmetically. It seems the clicking is the hard drive reader is stuck and this dislodges it. Mine works now (no clicking) and all seems to be well again. Who knew?

  • Yellow Connect to Power Message - Now iPod has Blank Screen

Hello and Help. My Third Gen Nano 4 GB has gone dark... right before I saw the "Connect to Power" with a gold warning triangle message. I've tried all the menu/reset thing with no luck and I can't get the iPod to show up on iTunes.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm hoping it's not the battery as a battery costs half the price of a new iPod, but it's sort of looking that way. But before I gave up I thought I'd see if anyone might have an idea.

Yep, it's the battery. Same answer as the other post right before you.

  • Power View with dynamic connection string, but server-side

We'd like to evaluate using Power View to provide exploratory BI over data output from HDInsight, onto Azure Storage. We need to let users select which segments of data to load but through a web-ui (not Excel on the desktop). We expect to have a standard
data model, it's just the segments of data that will be dynamically selected by the user. Basically the Power Query will need to be updated dynamically, but on the server-side. Is this scenario currently possible?

  • Have a 4th Generation photo ipod stuck on connect to power source in restore

I just replaced the 20 GB HD with an 80 GB HD...As I was going through the restore process, I'm stuck at the connect to power source part. I don't have the apple usb wall charger, but I do have a usb wall charger. Do I need to use the one that came with the ipod when I bought it or could I use another usb wall charger?
I'd hate to go and spend any additional money to get this working. Any suggestions?

For this particular iPod model (4th gen), you need the square white power adapter that came with the iPod, to complete that last step, if you are using USB for the connection.  It has something to do with the connection's voltage.  The USB port on the computer does not provide it, and many third-party USB power adapter do not either (some may).  The more recent Apple power adapter that looks like a small cube should work.
NOTE:  If you happen to use a Mac with a FireWire port, and you have a FireWire docking cable, you do NOT need to connect it to the power adapter to complete the Restore.  So a FireWire port apparently provides the required voltage.
If you have an Apple Store nearby, you could probably take it there and ask the Genius Bar folks if you can plug your iPod into an Apple power adapter.  Do not have them perform a complete Restore using a Mac, if you use a Windows PC.
