Tack pad is unresponsive

My tack pad is unresponsive after waking up the iMac. The machine is an Intel i5 running OS X 10.7.4.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I have the same problem. Do you use Time Machine?

  • Why is my track pad becoming unresponsive

Loaned Mountain Lion on the releasse day.  All was well then suddenly my track pad is unresponsive when using Chrome.

You may have to send it again for repair.
It is not that common that trackpad is failing second time around.
    Best.

  • HT3986 Can anyone help me to get the Tack pad drivers for windows 7 on mAcBook Air..

Can anyone help me to get the Tack pad drivers for windows 7 on mAcBook Air..

If you've created the Windows 7 Drivers CD/USB drive, using Boot Camp Assistant in OSX, the drivers should be on there. My MacBook Pro (2010) touchpad works fine with those drivers installed, and I think it's identical to the Air's.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4407 for info on how to create this drive.

  • Click on tack pad re-positions window.

An odd and really annoying thing is happening with my 2yr old 13 inch macbook pro.  At a certain point the current active window will not accept input from the keyboard, and the next click from the tack pad will re-position the current window to where i left click with the track pad.  This is really driving me nuts!  This happens with both the internal track pad on the mac book pro, or with the external blue tooth track pad.  I've dug through the track pad options, and I don't see anything that would explain this.  A bug?  Or am I missing  setting or something?
    Thanks

    TalonK,
Thank you for your prompt and correct assistance.  Very much appreciated!

  • Synaptics Image Pad Being Unresponsive

I’m having trouble with my image pad for my HP Envy 1430-TU Spectre Notebook. Every other day the image pad loses responsiveness from being unable to use “gestures” to scroll and zoom yet still being able to move the cursor and select things, to not working at all. When it stops working completely  I can’t even turn off or on the image pad by tapping the button that does this. Tried re-installing Synaptics PS/2 Port Clickpad driver, but problem was not solved.

Here are some older solutions to touchpad problems. Maybe something will click:

  • Sluggish Tack Pad and Mouse

I found a solution to fix sluggish and unresponsive beavior in the Magic Mouse and Trackpad. This worked for me after trying many other things with no success. Locate the Plist for the Bluetooth. Macintosh HD>library>Preferences>com.apple.bluetooth.Plist. Move the com.apple.bluetooth.Plist to the trash and your sytem will rebuild a new configuration for your bluetooth devices and your problem will hopefully be gone! Make sure you select your Mouse and Trackpad Favorite as well and this should clear up ant issue! I hope this helps!

I finally got this figured out.
    1. Open system preferences click trackpad.
    2. Uncheck everything.
    3. Open Magicprefs
    4. Boom! issue solved.

  • Tack Pad Question

I've read some of the other posts regarding track pad issues, but mine is different.
When using the pointer/click/hold for scrolling (e.g., moving the blue bar to the left, up or down in a browser or other pages like Word), it takes a very firm depression in the very lower right hand corner to get the bar to move. It use to only take a light depression anywhere in the lower 1/2 of the pad.
Anyone had a similar issue? Any fix?
    Thanks:
    Leo

    HI, Louis X!V
a similar thing has been reported recently here on this forum. I would say, it's not normal, but a hardware failure. contact apple.
sorry for the dry reply - but more than 200 years after the declaration of Human Rights, i can't be less polite to a self-declared souverein (unless he signs with the name of Sarko... and then i'll be even less polite).

  • Macbook air early 2014 touch pad problem

Does anyone know why sometimes I want to do click by tapping the touch pad is unresponsive and shows up as not working.

If you have been taking care of the trackpad and haven't pressed hard or spilled anything, I think it's a system glitch. Try resetting the PRAM memory. I'm not sure if fore Yosemite it's like this, but for older os x it's kind of like this: At boot, while screen is still black, before boot tone, hold the following keys:
    Command+Option+P+R
Kep holding till the computer restarts and there's a second boot tone. Again, I'm not sure if for Yosemite it's like that, but investigate. If not, take it to apple or a good mechanic for maintenance.

  • Mac air ''11 track pad/ system problem?

    Hello,
I have a mac air 2011 ill give more specs when i get home.
So i turn my mac on and it acts normal for a few mins, then the cursor starts flipping out and when i move my R.A.T mouse. I cannot click on anything st all no side bar no windows open nothing on the desktop. My track pad has been warn down over the past 3 years and ive been using usb mice to game since i got the laptop. The track pad is unresponsive and does not click and moves sporadically when i try to move it.
I recently updated my air to maverick last week. Prior to this it had no problems at all. Then again my track pad has been messed up for a while now, jst before this happened, it would occasionally stick or double click when i click once.
I have tried PRAM reset. It works for about 5 mins and then it goes crazy again. Thr two things ive seen online is get a t-6 hex screw driver and tighten the screws or go to apple. Any one else have this problem? Is there any simple fix or anything i can do? Also i hVent had time to get a screwdriver yet.
So basically i cant use my laptop now. I can turn it on for five minutes but if i touch the track pad or wait a bit, the laptop will jst spazz the cursor out and after that it i cant click anything. Also during the spazz period i saw that it sometimes goes to mission control, the screen where all of your desktops or full screen programs pop up.  Help meeee i need to get back to gw2!! Thanks

  • Multi-Touch Trackpad in Windows 7 Pro x64

    Macbook Pro Unibody
    OSX 10.5.8 (Leopard)
    Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
    Bootcamp 2.1
    Trackpad Update 1.1
Just upgraded my Boot Camp partition from Win XP x32 to Win 7 x64. Or rather, I did a clean install, not an upgrade. I'm running all of the above listed stuff. Muti-Touch isn't working on the tack pad, so I don't have RMB functionality and I'm really missing two finger scrolling.
Also, looking in the Boot Camp Control Panel, I don't appear to have any trackpad options, even after installing the trackpad update. I just tried installing it again, and I get a message saying that it won't update my drivers for the tackpad because what I'm trying to install isn't better than what I already have. That's all well and good, but the pad still isn't working with multi-touch.
Any helpful suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I didn't do anything proactive to get it to work, just the things I mentioned above. Installed Boot Camp 2.1, installed the Trackpad 1.1 update, uninstalled Boot Camp 2.1, Installed Boot Camp 3.0. Side scrolling just started working.
The only thing that's a tad finicky is multi-touch RMB. It works, more or less, but, for example, if I RMB on a bookmark in Firefox to access it's properties (let's say I want to rename it), I have to hold my two fingers down in the click position as as I move the cursor into the conext menu. Otherwise it will launch the bookmarked page. So you can't just two-finger-click on something to evoke a context menu, let go, then use one finger to navigate to the option you want, which is how I would expect it to work.

  • Macbook Pro Stalls or Crashes

Hi, a really annoying problem with my new MBP 17". Every now and again it will just freeze, nothing will work. The seconds stop on the clock, the keyboard and pad are unresponsive, the pointer does not move. The screen stays on, but you can't force quit anything, nothing. Totally dead. I have to hold the power button down until it restarts.
I had a look in the console log and the only thing I could see just before it hung was 'Graphic Channel Exception'. Which doesn't sound good! Any ideas out there or am I going to have to send my baby back??!! thanks.

About time I followed this post up. Still no joy, MBP is still freezing every now and again. I have run the hardware test and no probs there. Version Cue has been deleted but the problem remains. One thing I have noticed is this, from the console log, just before it crashed at 23:34. 'Graphics Channel Timeout' which sounds a bit dodgy to me. If there's anyone out there who can tell me what this means or if it is related. Every time this happens I have to hard restart the machine and it takes an age for it to restart. As you can see from the times on the log file, it takes a good few minutes to restart.

  • MacBook Pro 13 Inch

hi, i recently purchased a macbook pro 13 inch this past summer. i did the lion program and it worked great. i bought the newest model, (2011) but have noticed a difference with the ones more recently purchased from bestbuy; the shortcut keys have different signs/pictures on them representing dashboard; mission control, etc. I know this is not a big deal; but some people have complained about the re-sale value dropping signifigantly because people say, "that is the old one; the box has snow leopard"-- and the new box has lion on it. would bestbuy replace (i have the 2 year warrenty) it? with the new one? also, the track pad is unresponsive sometimes. the pro is in excellent condition, as it has no scratches dents chips-- anything. i have had a case on it since the beggining.
If i was able to get a replacment, is there any chance i could pay the difference and get the dedicated graphics card in the 15 inch?  just a thought. i have been playing some gaming on it-- it runs great, but i would much rather have the dedicated graphics card. it is such a pain though, i have so much software on it and i will not pay geek squad 100 dollars just to make a trasfer. annoying.
the point is, i payed for the "newest" product, but in a way got the older one.
    thanks in advance.

Yes even if you have the warranty and if you damage it during the hard drive or ram upgrade or if a problem arrises that could be linked to that then it is not covered.

  • Internal Keyboard is not working ocasionally.

I have a black macbook from mid 2007 that has been running fine except sometimes when I put it to sleep when I try to log back in the keyboard and trackpad are unresponsive. This has happened a few times before I had leopard installed and a couple of time since then. What is really odd is that I tried to start it up today and the keyboard and track pad were unresponsive and I restarted it at least 5 times before they were responsive. I don't need to install the fix that is online for mac books about the keys and track pad disconnect.

    Try resetting your SMC.
Resetting the System Management Controller >>
If that does not work, go to iFixIt.com and follow the instructions on removing the keyboard. Check the ribbon cable going from the keyboard to the logic board. Try reseating it.

  • Internet Speed Decrease

A few days ago, I dropped my MBP off at a Apple store to see why the keyboard and track pad were unresponsive. The genius there told me he would swap out the Airport card and replace it with a new one. Know that before this whole insident occured, my internet was blazing fast. However now that I have my computer back fixed, the internet is very slow. I feel like i'm connected to dial up sometimes. I use an Airport Extreme Base at my house and using N-Networking so I'm not sure why this is happening. Can anyone help out or tell me what to do?

I've had my line slowly throttled down from a 3.4 Mb/s provision to now 2.1 Mb/s. I'm pretty sure it's the ASSIA optimizer (de-optimizer is probably more apropos) because it doesn't increase your line speed, it only serves to reduce it further & further.
I get short power outages or blinks in electricity during the summer time and what I notice is that either the modem quickly reboots or I have to turn it off and back on for it to synchronize. Once the ASSIA system senses that I'm reconnecting, it thinks I'm having a problem and keeps bringing me down. One occasion I tried a different gateway modem to see and since I had to turn off and back on everything, I was further throttled down.
How to get get this to stop permanently and have my line set back to at least 3.4 Mb/s. I know this works fine because I have months and months of Speedtest.net results saved and I was fine all that time getting actual 2.90 Mb/s on the provisioned 3.4 Mb/s DSL line.
    Help!

  • Lenovo Twist many problems

Bought the new twist about 6 weeks ago. it was down for 3 weeks for a hard drive replacement. It is the i7 with 500G HDD and 8G ram absolutely love the style and feel but the little problems are overwhelming. I am ready to send it back as I dont really see a lot of solutions that work. Here is the list
    Screen rotation gets stuck
Touch and track pad becomes unresponsive.
Wake from sleep takes from 5 seconds to 45 seconds and sometimes just gets stuck with black screen and fan spinning
screen rotation (when working) is very slow to react
This thing feels like a very bugy machine. Is there a thread or threads that help fix these issues? I have had enough. Wll switching to SSD fix it? I will do anything.

    bkeenom,
Yes there are threads on some of these issues already... sorry to hear that you are struggling with some of these points and had an HDD failure.
A lot of people report that the SSD makes a huge difference on the system performance - I suspect that the accelerometer may be suspending HDD access while you move the system around and that can lead to hangs.  SSD also makes a big difference in run time for the system.
Check out the updates on screen rotation - the background on this is covered in this KB article.
Also, it can take up to 10 secs when you flip the system and come back from suspend - see this tip  You might see what others say, but I'll bet the SSD improves this.
Try to update to the latest level of touchpad drivers from our site (TVSU may help you).
    Hope these help!
