Tagging iPhoto - Facebook

Hi,
I'm using iPhoto '11 to manage my pictures and I like a lot the "Faces" tool to tag people and find all the photos related to them in one click.
I've shared several albums to Facebook hoping that the tagging was maintained and consistent.
Unfotunally my tags appear on Facebook but without the links to my friends profiles.
Searching in this community I've found similar issues related to iPhoto '09 so I've tried to edit one face adding the corresponding email that my friend has in his profile; this way I've created the tag I wanted (with the link to my friend's profile) but it has been added to the previous one (with no link).
Is there an easy way to fix this inconsistence and remove the duplicates?
I have ~ 500 photos on FB and removing by hand all the duplicates would take a lot of time.
When iPhoto finds a new face and I edit the label, some of the suggestions in the list that appear have the FB logo on their right; this is not true for all of them. Should this help?
Last question: is there any way to remove all the tags to faces in iPhoto (and sync this action with FB)? I could retag all the found faces from scratch adding the email that FB needs ... this way all the new tags should work.
Thanks in advance for any comment/suggestion!
Bye...

iPhoto and face book interface on the basis of the users facebook e-mail address - in the faces window select a face and click on the info button (or i in the lower right hand corner depending on the version you have) and enter their facebook e-mail address - that will connect them in iPhoto to Facebook

  • IPhoto/Facebook/Aperture Query

    Hey guys,
I know that iPhoto is supposed to two-way sync with Facebook and I'm not going to complain about it (unlike all the other iPhoto-Facebook support threads I've just read through). My question is slightly different...
I switched over all my libraries to Aperture, for the increased organization, features, etc etc. I love it. I even like the third-party Facebook exporter plugin that Aperture supports.
But I still have a few albums on iPhoto that are synched with Facebook. They have comments and tags and such so I don't want to remove them from my account or reupload them, but these photos are also taking up about a gigabyte of harddrive space in the iPhoto library (not to mention being duplicated in the Aperture library).
So, what I am wondering is if there is someway to leave those photos untouched on Facebook, and cause iPhoto to forget about them? I want to keep iPhoto around, because I do like some of its image editing tools, but I won't be keeping any of my master images there nor will I upload any more photos from iPhoto to facebook.
Regarding other threads, I've come up with a few ideas of making this work. If someone could please let me know if any of these sound correct, I'd really appreciate it.
    1) Just delete the iPhoto library file. Upon launching iPhoto next, it will create a new library file and should not have any ties with my facebook account? This would allow those albums to stay online but remove them from my HDD? (unlock the facebook album info is stored in a preference file somewhere and deleting the library doesn't affect it?)
    2) I've heard that I could create a new, empty album on facebook and move all the photos from the old albums into that one... which keeps all the tags/comments/etc. I think this would also make the old photos seem new though, so I don't really want to go this route, if it can be avoided.
So, I guess what I am really wondering is: would option 1 work, in my case? I guess I could also set-up a little snitch rule to prevent iPhoto from connecting to Facebook... What do you guys think is the easiest solution?
    Cheers

That worked! The facebook album was still in the sidebar, so to be careful, I denied all outgoing connections with little snitch when i deleted it, since it was still giving me the "delete this and it will unpublish message".
Between removing the Facebook account and Little Snitch, iPhoto is now separated from my Facebook and all the albums are still there!
    Thanks for the help!

  • Face tagging to Facebook

Faces is great. It would save me a ton of time when uploading photos to Facebook if all the time spent tagging and correcting Faces in Aperture would also carry over to tags on Facebook. Ok, granted, in the Facebook album, I see the person's name, but it isn't linked to their profile and won't show up in "Photos of...". How can I get my Faces to sync up with someone's Facebook ID? Is it something I need to do in Address Book? Something incredibly simple I'm overlooking? Thanks in advance if you have the answer, or can point me to where to find it.

The Facebook ID is the email address the user registered their facebook account with. When entered correctly it should tag the profile.

  • Iphoto facebook exporter - faded images

Hi can anyone help me with my problem? Ive been using the iphoto facebook explorer for ages, but all of a sudden it is uploading my images with the colours very faded to facebook.
Ive uninstalled and reinstalled - done the lastest iphoto upgrades..
    any other ideas?
    Thanks!!

Looks like you still don't get it. Normally if we upload photos using Facebook Exporter for iPhoto, the images would still retain the 'colour information' but obviously lose some quality (like size, clarity, etc.) but the COLOUR stays, thus the photo will look similar to the one we have in iPhoto.
Meanwhile, uploading manually using the default Facebook photo uploader will result in the stripping of colour information, so basically before this problem happened, photos uploaded using this method will look a little faded in color and of course crappier than using the iPhoto. However, most Mac user might not realize this fact since they have been uploading photos to Facebook using iPhoto.
And the problem we're having right now is uploading using iPhoto actually results in really crappier images than using default method. The colour information is no longer retained, the colour looks 'faded', desaturated, less contrast. It's so bad, that people who normally use iPhoto to upload would realise a huge difference. This is a fact, the discussions page for the Facebook Exporter for iPhoto is full of people complaining about this. It's not about why should we care about photo quality in Facebook, it's about why this problem happened. And so far no one has come up with any solutions, and neither Apple nor Facebook has responded.

  • IPhoto Facebook upload-feed cannot be found

When trying to add photos to an existing iphoto/facebook album I get the error message that says "the feed cannot be found".  Does anyone know how to resolve this?

I just had the same problem.  When looking at the album, I had to approve all of the photos and after that, they didn't show up in my feed.  I removed the album, went here: https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=applications , and removed iPhoto.  It said it was last accessed 6 months ago, which was weird.  Then I signed back into Facebook through iPhoto and it looks like it's working again.

  • IPhoto/Facebook frustrations

The Facebook auto-sync feature is driving me crazy. I want to be able to upload my pictures to Facebook directly from iPhoto- otherwise I have to export smaller versions of the pictures to upload, lest it take days to do directly from Facebook's site. But, once I've uploaded an album, I don't need it to be "live" forever- nor do I still need it on my computer. Annoying is that if I add info to an image that's in an album- such as adding a rating- it checks with Facebook to see if any synching needs to be done, slowing down the whole program tremendously. More annoying is that if I make visible changes, such as cropping, it doesn't simply make the change in the album- it uploads the photo a second time to Facebook... again slowing down iPhoto, not to mention annoying my friends by putting "new" photos into my news feed. At this point I'd just upload the picture again outside of iPhoto, but then I'd lose all my comments. Is there a way to make changes to pictures that are in Facebook albums without them auto-synching? Is there any way to make the synching only come on manually? Or am I going to have to make sure I've done absolutely every forseeable cropping, captioning, tagging etc on every single photo before uploading? Or will I just have to export the photos and upload them directly from Facebook from now on and just deal with the frustration of the ones I've already done? This is stunningly non-user-friendly from both Mac and Facebook's sides.

Thanks Daiya, maybe I'll give this a try.
One thing I've just thought of- the iPhoto auto updater is logged on to my Facebook profile. If I take out the password so that it's logged off, that should stop the auto-uploading- although, will it make the photos disappear? And of course this is not a long-term solution because, like the other poster, it's always possible that I'll want to make edits for whatever reason that I don't want showing up on Facebook.
I'm very annoyed at how short-sided this program was to not foresee these problems. I suppose I'll go back to my usual method of waiting until any program has been out for a year before buying it so the kinks can be discovered and worked out. Very, very annoying.

  • IPhoto - Facebook Faces Problem

I'm having issues with Facebook and iPhoto Faces integration.  Here is what is happening:  I go through my pictures in iPhoto and tag Faces.  Then I upload the pictures through iPhoto to Facebook.  But if I've tagged a Face of an individual in iPhoto who does not have a Facebook account, the next time I go back into that event/album in iPhoto, it has automatically retagged that person as "Is this firstname lastname?" where the firstname lastname is the first person (alphabetically) in my iPhoto Faces list.  I then have to go back into iPhoto and re-tag those Faces in each event/album I've uploaded to Facebook (again this only affects Faces of individuals who doe not have FB accounts).  But, to finalize and correct the problem, I have to go back through each event/album a THIRD time, because now everyone who does not have a FB account who I've re-tagged after uploading to FB, will be tagged as "Is this firstname lastname?"  After I've answered yes to each of those suggested Faces it seems to fix the priblem permanently.
Is this an iPhoto bug or a Facebook issue?  Does anyone have any suggestion on how to fix this or should I just send feedback to Apple?
    Thanks for your help.

I've not seen this reported here so I suspect it is a specific issue with your system - Try renewing your iPhoto preference file -
A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

  • IPhoto Facebook Update ruined app

I downloaded the Facebook update for iPhoto, but since my Mac OS X Package installer has never worked on my computer (for unknown reasons it always says my destination install dir. is "(null)" and I must free space), I had to use Pacifist to install the package.
After installing, the iPhoto icon went away, and i can no longer start it. I'm currently in Paris and need iPhoto to get pictures off of my camera so I can take more...any help suggestions would be excellently appreciated

    CptGabok
You can use Image Capture (Applications Folder) to get the pics onto your Mac and just store them in a folder.
If the FaceBook update is an export plug-in, try selecting the iPhoto icon in the Applications Folder and go File -> Get Info, and use the Plug-in pane to disable it.

  • IPhoto/Facebook export issues

My iPhoto is not exporting to Facebook properly. Either it simply does nothing after I click on the appropriate buttons (when it used to say " X photos upload to your Facebook Album", or it crashes and closes or it uploads the incorrect photos. I have never had trouble before. I have sent a report to Apple with every crash, and even added comments. I searched online and found no help.  One time, I got an error message about rebuilding iPhoto, which I have done. I have also  backed up my iPhoto to my external hard drive. Can anyone tell me anything else that I can try? Please note, I am not tech savvy. I buy Apple products because they are easy for me to use and have never owned a PC ( Apple since the iic, but still, it is all Greek to me.)  I can follow simple instructions, but am no "Genius".  Thank you!

Not if you export them via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu with these two checkboxes checked
and (if you want the file names to reflect what you changed the Title to)
That will embed the metadata into the image file and, if FB can read the IPTC fields in the image file, will be displayed in FB (I don't use FB so don't know if it does read the iPTC metadata of image files).

  • How do you tag a Facebook photo from ipad2

I have a photo on my Facebook page that I want to tag while looking at the page on ipad2 but there is no tag option when I tap the photo
    Can anyone guide me?

In the facebook app, tap the photo you want to tag. At the upper right, tap the rectangle-shaped icon with the arrow shooting from inside. Tap "Tag Photo". Touch the person or area of the photo you would like to tag. The Keyboard pops up and the "search" field appears at the top. Type the name and tap "Done". Tap Done again. Photo is now tagged. I think this is only available in your Photos section in your profile.

  • Problem Editing HEAD tag for Facebook Open Graph

In order for pages to play nice with some of the new Facebook features they can add meta tag content to identify the page as a specific "object" in the Facebook Graph.
The problem is they ask you to add some namespace information as an attribute in the head tag and when I try to put anything in the actual tag itself I get an error:
Header must contain <head> and </head> tags.
I'm attempting to make the head tag look something like this:
    <head prefix="og: http://ogp.me/ns# fb: http://ogp.me/ns/fb# my_fb_app: http://ogp.me/ns/fb/my_fb_app#">
I have an end tag for head, I just thing the validation fails if you put anything in the head tag itself.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Greg

<tt>prefix</tt> is not an HTML atttribute: it is part of RDF (which I haven't got my head round at all). However I get the same error on apex.oracle.com using
<head class="foo"><tt>class</tt> is one of the HTML global attributes permitted on the <a href="<tt>head</tt> element, so this is definitely a parsing bug in APEX.
    Couple of possible workarounds:
<li>In the examples in RDFa spec the <tt>prefix</tt> occurs in the <tt>html</tt> element, which APEX 4.1 will permit.
<li>Add the <tt>prefix</tt> to the <tt>head</tt> element using a Dynamic Action/JavaScript on page load.
You might try these and see whether they are compatible with whatever Facebook is doing.
Please include the following information when posting a question (especially if it might be a bug):
    <li>Full APEX version
    <li>Full DB/version/edition/host OS
<li>Web server architecture (EPG, OHS or APEX listener/host OS)
    <li>Browser(s) and version(s) used

  • New Script for PE Tags-- iPhoto keywords

I haven't tried it yet, but there's a new script for getting your Windows PE tags into iPhoto as keywords. Use the Write Tags to File command in PE first.

Oh, whoops, I just posted this in the Technical forum before I came here. Never sure which one to use.
This looks like the script a lot of folks were looking for.

  • Erroneous behaviour from iPhoto, Facebook, and Mountain Lion

Mountain Lion has downloaded my Facebook photos from iPhoto, put them in "All My Files" and... it won't let me delete them? I can't drag or drop them, can't delete them, I can _only_ open them. How do I get rid of them, and why did this happen?
And especially curious, some of the photos appear to be of _just_ peoples faces, as if iPhoto stores the identified/unidentified faces of people as individual photos.
    This is really irritating.
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

It began when I noticed the dock icon for "all my files" was randomly filling up with photos.

  • IPhoto facebook exporter login error

I know this is a common problem, or was, but I am trying to login to facebook via iPhoto exporter.  When I click on logon, it just says
"An error occurred with Facebook Exporter for iPhoto. Please try again later."
I've been at this for a few days trying to figure it out.  I've deleted com.apple.iphoto.plist, deleted my cookies, tried to reinstall safari, (even though I use firefox and it pops up).  Is there a preference that I am not selecting?  It is becoming quite frustrating, and I'm not sure if there is another way to do things (other than export whole album on to desktop and do it manually from facebook).  Any help would be appreciated!!!

We are having the same problem. However, I don't think it has anything to do with the software on our computer because the exporter works on my facebook account but not on my wife's. But I can't see what causes it.
