Tags in Elements 11

The names of tags imported into Elements 11 from 4 show on the right of the screen. However they only show the taggged files when I click on one when I am in the Albums view on the left of the screen not when I am in the folder view?
Am very new to 11, can anyone explain why this is?

Places Tagging in Elements 12

I converted all of my 16,000 photos from Elements 8 to Elements 12. In Elements 8, I made up my own "Places" set of tags -- about 500 of them. Not all places are mappable. If I don't have an exact location, I may have to put something like Virginia. Many of the photos have been scanned in at high resolution because I only have the old photo and I may not know the exact location. Some locations change - new restaurant or winery name. Elements 8 gave me the ability to search and find places on a map but with 16,000 photos and 500+ places, that was not practical. When I imported my "Place" tags into Elements 12, it accepted them - fabulous! Thank you. But then when I went to add a new "Places" tag to MY list, I was forced to use the mapping function. Have any of your programmers heard of backward compatibility? This is incredibly annoying! Having the new type of tagging function is fine but PLEASE give another alternative to allow custom "Place" tags. I am sorry I bought the new version because of this. Also, I realized that the general "Keyword" tag structure allows me to build customized tags but did I mention that I have 16,000 photos already tagged with over 500 personalized "Place" tags - your accepted my tags and preserved months of work - JUST GIVE ME A WAY TO ADD MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know of any way of doing what you are asking. The catalog itself is an sqlite database so if you know any sqlite experts they may be able to compare the two structures (the format has change between each release because of new features) and see if they can feed back the v12 changes to your v8 catalog.

How do I transfer all tags from Elements 8 to 11? Only part of the tags transferred for elements 8 to 11. I'm using Windows 7.

It depends...
If you are still on the same computer and OS, the Organizer in PSE11 (or PSE12) will be able to convert the old catalog to its own format, while keeping the old catalog unchanged.
If you are changing computer, drive or OS, the best method is via a full backup and restore:

TOAD error : Missing close tag in element Container.

Hi ,
when i try to open TOAD 8.6.1.0 fo oracle data base login ,
It gives the error " Missing close tag in element Container", further i am not able to login and i have to forcefully kill the TOAD session , Please help me in this regard.

If you want to change the category you need to change the feed, which means changing it in WordPress. You need to pick one category and, if there is one, one sub-category from the official list here:

It is possible to have further categories, though I don't know whether WordPress will allow that, but you should put the most relevant one in first.
Once you've amended it simply re-upload the feed and wait for the Store to catch up. You don't need to resubmit.

i have a need wherein i need to create/host jax-ws webservice ( starting from wsdl) and in that service translate the xml using xsl to a different structure and call another webservice hosted to another server ( non-weblogic).
so my approach is as soon as request comes to the service impl, i marshal the object to a xml then apply the required xsl transformation and then unmarshal the transformed xml to the object which can be used to trigger another webservice.
This approach works fine for the xmls without list tags/unbounded elements , however it gives marshal exception whenever the xmls has list/unbounded elements.
i am using jaxb and jax-ws generated class for marshalling and unmarshalling.
so need some help on how to deal in this scenario?

Events Tag in Elements 12

I have been using Elements since I started with Elements 8. I have 16000 photos. I created my own events like Christmas, Birth, Wedding, Graduation, etc - about 50 of them or so. When I imported my files into Elements 12, it took those events but it won't let me add new ones of my own choosing. The video does an excellent job of explaining how the new Events tag works but doesn't explain how to create new personalized ones. I don't want Events by date or time. Who was the genius who decided to throw away compatibility with previous versions? I realize that I can create my own tags under the Keyword tags but, as I mentioned, I have 16,000 pictures so far and Elements accepted MY events from previous versions. There needs to be another option to allow "personalized" events along with the new Events forced on us in Elements 12.

See my reply to your Places post. Renaming 'Events' in PSE8 to 'My Events' and reconverting will let you continue with the old method.

How to organize Places tags in Elements 12

Hi
I have assigned pictures to several different locations in Colorado using the Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer. Most of these locations are listed under "Colorado" category but one location persistantly lists under "CO". I have the same issue with "Utah" and "UT".
I can rename the "CO" to "Colorado" but then I have two cateogories of "Colorado" when I would like all the locations in Colorado to be listed under the same category. I have deleted and reasigned without sucess.
Is there a way to edit these tag names so that they nest appropriately? Maybe a 'work around' or something?

Use one of the selection tools to select the foreground.
Place the foreground on a separate layer (CTRL+J)
Place a blank layer between the background layer and the layer with the foreground, then fill it with color, patterns, or anything that you want.

Tags in Elements

Just upgraded both PC and Elements 5 to 9.When I imported the picture files into the organiser in Elements 9, only a very small number of tags were imported. There were also only a few picture files in each imported tag as well, where there should have been many.
Any ideas as to how I can get them all in? There are ~20,000 images, I don't want tp have to re tag them all!

All your tags are kept in the old PSE5 catalog. Part of them have been written into the files themselves, but to get them all, you would have had to 'write metadata to files' from the organizer.
The normal way to update your catalog to a new PSE version and new computer is described here:

So, do you still have your old computer (or old disk drive) available ?
Depending on your anwer, it will be possible to guide you to recover your PSE5 data.

How can you transfer tags from Elements 8 to 11?

I recently installed Elements 11 on a brand new computer. My old computer has Elements 8 and all the tags I want on the new machine. How can I transfer the tags from one machine to the other?

Do photos tagged in Elements 6 (Win) import accurately via Bridge (Elements 8 - Mac)

I have thousands of photos that I have managed using Adobe Elements (Win) and am now moving to a Mac. Will Adobe Elements 8 (Mac) using the included Adobe Bridge properly carry-over all the tags that I have assigned to the photos over the years. I have 'written' these Tags & keyword properties' to the files using the function in Elements 6.

There are usually not many Elements users around here. But the easiest way
to find out is to make a copy of a randomly chosen amount of files from
different data and try those copies your self in Bridge to see if they
reflect all the data you want.
Will Adobe Elements 8 (Mac) using the included Adobe Bridge properly

LR not importing tags from Elements 5.0

I'm trying to import a (rather large) Photoshop Elements 5 catalog into Lightroom--about 32000 images, mostly Canon raw files (some .RAW from a 10D, some .CR2 from a 20D). I'm finding that Lightroom isn't importing any of the PSE tags on any of the raw files. I tried using "File > Write Tags to Files" in PSE, but that only seemed to help with tags on JPGs, not on raw files.
The LR documentation says that tags created under the default categories in PSE (e.g. "People") would be imported, but not even those were being imported for the raw files.
(I did run a "File > Recover" on the PSE side before importing into LR; the first time I tried into LR it crashed after the import even though I had run a Recover, but the second time it was successful. It didn't get the RAW tags either time, though.)
Is there something else I should try to get this to work?

Thanks for the help. I would like to make it simple but my current PC has all images in the XP "my pictures" folder as the root which of course is on C: and has a long user path. Multiple folders under that.
I really want my images on a separate hard drive on the new PC which would be D. I guess I could setup the original path on C on the new PC (since it is Vista it would be totally made up), copy them there, then MOVE them to D via LR, etc. etc. However I was hoping to keep my system file dates as is so that would change them all.
Your PSE backup and restore is an option. Although quite frankly I have not had much luck with that backup option running through to completion with most versions of PSE that I have had.
I guess the comment about version sets and stacks appearing next to each other is true. Although sorting through 1,000's to re-marry them does not appeal to me. It looks like the "auto-stack by capture time" might do a nice job of stacking original images with their edits.
I thought of perhaps installing Lightroom on the old PC, importing the catalog. THEN taking the LR catalog to the new PC. Sticking the images where I want them, and THEN hopefully LR would do a "re-connect"?? I wish LR would try to do a re-connect during the import of the PSE catalog. That would make projects like this MUCH easier.

Tags from Elements with full version

Since 2003, I used Photoshop Album and Photoshop Elements then to place thousands of tags on nearly 15,000 digital photos. I bought Photoshop CS5 few months ago and I find no way to use my information without going through my catalogs Photoshop Elements. Does that mean that thousands of my information will be useless if, in addition to Photoshop, I do not buy Photoshop Elements? I'd be willing to update my Albums Elements but why buy when I have the full version?

Don't think so. They are two separate ecosystems. Feel free to inquire on the PSE forums how to export the data using XMP or by user-defined EXIF/ IPTC fileds in teh files themselves or whatever may be the most appropriate way of handling this.

Other metadata:
There is no way to share Faces from one system to another. Places will happen automatically if your photos have the gps co-ordinates in the Metadata. Events are populted depending on the choices you make in the iPhoto Preferences.
Again, I'm not sure exactly what you're hoping for here, sorry.

Face Tagging in Elements 13

Hi Forum
Can anyone help to explain why the Auto Face Tagging process (Add People) in Elements 13 would not find what are obvious faces in images containing very clear faces? The faces are 'face on' and large in size and yet Elements reports- No new People found in your selection.
Any help welcome as not keen to have to manually tag a few thousand images.

Thank you for the very detailed reply. I appreciate you taking the time to list it all out.
I followed each of these steps exactly as listed. After I copied the images back, PSE13 saw them and then I tried to add a face. It analyzed the photo and it still says "No New People Found In Your Selection". I removed the tags, renames the Breeze file, deleted from the catalog, everything.
I was so hoping that this would have corrected it.
And now PSE13 is starting it's memory leak (that I reported in a different post).
Whenever it analyzes a photo and doesn't find anything, it goes into a loop, leaking memory until the app eventually crashes because of no memory left. Other running apps die as well. And I have 16GB of RAM.
