Tags in iPhoto '11

I have recently upgraded my iPhoto to iPhoto '11 (version 9.5). In previous versions of iPhoto, I frequently used the tags feature (at least that's what I think it was called), which appeared below each photo and allowed me to make notes about the photos. It now seems as if that has completely disappeared in this version of iPhoto (replaced by the faces feature, evidently), along with my tags on 25,000 photos.
Is there any way to reclaim this information?
Does Apple not notify users of these changes before upgrading? Or did I just miss the notification?
Thanks.

Do you mean the custom keywords?
They are still available in iPhoto '11, version 9.5.
You can manage your keywords using From the "Windows" menu:  WIndows > Manage My Keywords, then click "Edit".
The keywords do not show below the thumbnails, but in the "Info" panel. The title will show below the thumbnail, the caption will also show in the "Info" panel, if you open it by pressing the "Info " button.

  • How can you tell if a pic hasnt been tagged by iPhoto, and do you then...

How can you tell if a pic hasnt been tagged by iPhoto, and do you then do you then have to draw "missing box" around them
What I mean is tagged a few faces, imported some more pics, checked a few and they dont show as named faces, but are faces that are in my Faces source list (ie identified and named)
So do I then have to draw a box around known faces to me, and name them again (I think iPhoto will pop up as Im typing the names I already have)
It just means that even when i import and it doesnt name, I may have lots of pics that are of faces but not tagged and so not in my faces source list
    please help
    cheers
ps when are Apple going to upload the Getting Started manuals for iLife 09? its been a while since released now, ad they give a bit more insight than the video tutorials alone

No-one? It'll be nice to know how many pics of faces that arent yet tagged
    cheers

  • Importing Photoshop Elements tags into iPhoto 09 keywords

I am looking for a method of importing my Photoshop Elements photos & videos with their tags into iPhoto as keywords. I've seen several posts on this topic but none quite work for my situation. I'm hoping someone has a good recommendation. I have the following...
    * iPhoto 09
    * PSE 5.0
    * 10K+ photos with an average of 2-3 tags each
    * want to import tags for video clips as well as for photos
    Here's what I've tried...
    * iPhoto did actually import a random few pictures with the tags (maybe 12 out of 10K)
    * PSE DB Tool to write the tag data to the files. This requires PSE 6.0 or greater (i have 5.0). http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/
    * PSE native tag writing. Doesn't write tags on video clips and is littered with bugs anyway.
    * Other tag importing tool at http://www.cv2h.com/PSA2iPhoto/Welcome.html. Does not work with iPhoto 09.
    Any ideas?

The IPTC metadata is for image files only. Video files can't have that metadata written to the file. Application can assign metadata to video files but they are kept in databases associated with the application and point to the video file.
Some DAM (digital asset management) applications can add keywords, etc. to video files but the data stays with the application.

  • Make Picasa Web Albums tags from iPhoto keywords

Anyone know why the "Make Picasa Web Albums tags from iPhoto keywords" option does not seem to work? I expected to see the keywords I added to my photo in iPhoto also in Picasa on the web after they have been uploaded.
Downloaded and installed "Picasa Web Albums Uploader" version 1.3.1.680 from Google. Then from within iPhoto did a File > Export. The above option is shown on the "Picasa Web Albums" tab. I am using iPhoto 09.
Thank you very much for your help.

For help with the Picasa Web Albums Uploader, best to seek advice from the makers, after all, no one knows it better than they do.

  • Transfering Windows Photo Gallery tags to iPhoto

Hi there everyone! I just bought a macbook . I transferred my pictures from my Vista desktop to my new macbook using an external HD. However, the tags from Windows Photo Gallery did not transfer over as keywords into iPhoto . The weird thing is some tags did transfer on a couple of pictures (around 10). Does anybody know any solutions to this?

    SecretPact:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions and in from the Darkside. . If the keywords are written into the IPTC fields in each photo then iPhoto can read them. But they have to be embedded into each file by Windows Photo Gallery. If you can go back to WPG and see if there's an option to write the metadata to the files and do it, you can reimport them and hopefully get the keywords to import. Try it on one or two photo that did not show the keywords first.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Displaying file extension and "raw" tag in iPhoto 08

In iPhoto 06, filenames were displayed with their extensions and a "raw" tag was added.
In 08, the "title" field doesn't contain the file extension. Is this a result of the way I imported photos into 08? I used "import" to bring them in from folders on a network drive.
    Glenn

I right clicked the RAW file, then chose "edit in separate window". I did crop, contrast, sharpen, etc. Then the "Done" button.
For example, I imported both RAW and JPEG from my CF card to iPhoto. They are IMG_3067.CR2 and IMG_3067.JPG, respectively. I then duplicated the first file and renamed the new one as IMG_7777.CR2. I did the edit like mentioned above on IMG_7777.CR2. Finally I clicked "Done". You can see that IMG_7777.CR2 differs from IMG_3067.CR2 but it still has the CR2 file extension.
Is this normal or I missed something here?

  • How do I add a keyword tag in iPhoto on the iPad?

I looked through the Help for iPhoto and couldn't find a section on how to add keyword tags to my images.
Things like the names of the people in the photos, etc.
The screen shots of iPhoto show a Face Taggging feature.
How do I get to that?
Thanks for any help or advice!

    I talked with Apple Support.
The iPhoto app on the iPad is not the same as iPhoto on the Mac.
It doesn't support adding keyword tags.
Possibly a feature to be added in the future.
I have iCloud enabled for PhotoStream.
So my iPad picture was sent automatically to my download folder on my pc.
I can take it from there into PhotoShop Elements and add the tags.

  • Tags/Keywords : iPhoto iPhone / iPhoto Desktop

Can tags/keywords be transferred from iPhoto iOS to iPhoto Desktop? I just bought the iPhoto app for the iPhone and haven't been able to import the tags to import to the desktop version. Is there anyway that I can tag my pictures ON MY PHONE that allows me to import them to my desktop using smart albums???

No.  The two apps are different and independent from each other.
However, you may be able to export your photos out of your Mac's iPhoto library to a folder on the Desktop with the options to include keywords, titles, and other metadata, and the transfer that folder via iTunes to your iPhone.  The metadata might get read.  You can ask in the iPhoto for iOS forum if that workflow would work.

  • Removed face tags in iPhoto remain on Facebook

    Hello,
I have published pictures with face tags to Facebook. Adding new faces to the picture in iPhoto works just fine, the changes appear on Facebook. However, when I delete faces from pictures in iPhoto, the tags don't get removed from the Facebook page.
I did click on the sync-symbol next to the published albums name.
Has anyone similar problems with Facebook synchronization?
    Thanks for any help.

There is no standard field for faces. To transfer information you must put it in the standard place that the new program will use. That does not exist for faces. One work around would be to use keywords. You include the available metadata in a photo by checking all if the boxes when you export the photo(s). What the receiving program is determined by the authors of that program. All iPhoto can do is write what it offers to the IPTC & EXIF fields which it will

  • Facebook: people tagged in iPhoto appear as different people in Facebook

I have searched around for an answer and found nothing on this issue. Here's the problem:
I tag people in iPhoto using Faces, yet the tag switches to another individual when I upload to facebook. For example, I recently uploaded several photos that were tagged with Individual A. Upon viewing them in Facebook, there are tagged as Individual B, who is also in my collection of Faces, yet not in the photo. I understand how to identify each 'Face' so that it links correctly in Facebook, so that isn't an issue.
I'm looking for other people who have encountered this issue and perhaps know a solution.

No idea - do not remember ever seeing this here before - try renewing your iPhoto preference file - A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

  • Possible to sync (or download) Flickr tags to iPhoto

All of my photos on Flickr are tagged; is there anyway to automatically get those tags to appear with the same pictures in iPhoto?
    Thanks!

Only if Flickr writes those tags to the files before downloading. Someone may have an Applescript to read those tags from the site and write them to the file but it's a long shot. You might ask Flickr the same question.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Saving photos on CD using same name tag as IPhoto?

I think I'm missing something basic here, but I have named all my photographs in my IPhoto library and wish to transfer at least half of them on to a CD (for safe storage). When I pull them to the desktop all the names revert to ID numbers, which means me having to rename them again before placing on CD.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

    Hi kayjh,
I assume you are talking about albums you create in iPhoto for your projects. Since there are no album folders in the Finder anymore with iPhoto 5, it does make it a little harder to find all the photos in one place.
To make it easy for you, you can set up an external editor in iPhoto's preferences. This way, when you double click on a photo it will open up in the external editor. From there, you edit the photo and save it as a flattened image with the same name and file type. the edit will be reflected in iPhoto on the "save"

  • Importing Pictures and Tags from Photoshop Album 2.0 to IPhoto

I will be getting a new imac in a few days and was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way I can import all my photos from Photoshop Album 2.0 to iphoto'08 without losing the tags I already created for each photo (pulling the tags in and having them automatically set up as Keywords)?

    Hi,
I've managed to transfer all my Photoshop Album (PSA) tags to iPhoto. At this (http://www.cv2h.com/PSA2iPhoto/Welcome.html) little webpage you can read how I did it and download the files you need. It's not very hard to do.
In short: the PSA "My Catalog.psa" file is a Microsoft Access file. It's easy to export the necessary data from it as XML. After that it's necessary to convert the binary references to the tags to readable references in the Images file. Then, generate an applescript that tells iPhoto what tags to add to which photo. Then, execute the applescript and you're done.
    I hope this helps,
    hhv.
