Tags in Photoshop Elements 13

I just upgraded from Pe V 9 to V13.  I have over 40,000 images and had them in albums and tagged by keywords sorted by people, places, events, misc work etc.  I travel a lot internationally and had the images tagged by countries etc.  In V13 all those tags are missing or I don't know how to add tags to new images or sort by the old ones.  Did this feature get dropped?  It would be very disruptive to say the least if it's gone.
Help

You should have been given the option to convert your earlier catalog during installation and the tags will be shown under imported keywords.
You can do it manually from the menu:
File >> Manage Catalogs
Click the convert button, choose your catalog from the list and click convert again.

    See:

I suppose you are using the organizer : you'll be able to recover your PSE5 catalogs either by a catalog conversion on the same computer or by the backup / restore process.

  • Tags in Photoshop Elements 11

I just converted to Photoshop Elements 11 and have all my picture file organized using Tags, which has worked very well in previous version of PE.
Everything converted OK but the way PE11 uses Tags is quite confusing.
First, Tags are shown on the right side, but when you click on a group another menu of the tags pop up at the top of the screen, why in 2 places??
Second, In previous version I could choose a group of different Tags and they would all show up.  In PE11 if I pick a second Tag  the picture screen gives a message "No Media To Be Displayed".
Third, To move from one Tag to another I have to go back and start over.
Is this a glitch in PE11 or am I missing something in the logic of Tags?

I am in total agreement that the old system was much better.
It depends on the profile of each user. I am quite sure the new interface was designed to please new users. That is true for the clear background, that is true for the combination of criteria. Statistics should show that the new division into views like people, events and places is quickly understood by the average user while the 'query' style combination of criteria is not.
Old users like me regret the old serious dark interface for color correction and the flexible, unobstrusive and powerful way to combine criteria in searches. There is nothing I have lost : I can still do what I was used to, but after a painful period of learning the new interface .
Let's face it : Adobe has chosen to please a wider amateur public. That helps maintening PSE in an affordable price and performance range to compete against new competitors. Advanced users still have the same power they had before. When they are no longer satisfied with the (amateur) changes, they now can convert to Lightroom (now affordable) and an older version of PSE. That's still a big change and learning curve !

  • Face-tags in photoshop elements 8

In photoshop elements 8, are the "face tags" written" in the IPCT (or other metatags, like XMP), or are they only recorded in the database of PSE. Is it possible to insert them in the IPTC.

the face tags or any nornal tag will not be written to the file, unless you explicitly mention by using Write Keywords tags to file option

  • Editing People tags in Photoshop Elements 11

I just converted from Photoshop Elements 10 to 11.  I can't find how to edit my people tags in 11.  Is there away?  If so what is it?

When you double click on a people stack, you can see that there is another switcher Faces<->People on the top left corner of the grid. You may switch to Faces view > right click > Assign as profile picture. The notes you added with People tags in previous versions are not brought upon conversion., unfortunately.

  • How do I transfer photos and related tags  from Photoshop Elements 5 to a new iMac Apple desktop computer

Is it possible to move all my photos , Tags and folders in Photoshop Elements 5  from my Vista machine to my new Apple iMac desktop?

You will need to upgrade PSE in windows to at least PSE 9, then do a full backup using the organizer's backup command to a removable drive, then restore to the mac. The mac organizer can only understand windows catalogs from PSE 9 or later.
You can download a trial version here to get the catalog updated:
    Download Photoshop Elements products | 12, 11, 10

  • Transfer Tags from Photoshop Elements 5.0 to Lightroom 1.0

Unfortunality, the File>Import from Elements does not work correct (Missing the structure of folders if more than one level and missing some Tags). So, if I do in PSE File>Save Tags- and Attributesinfo with Photo (or similar, Tags- und Eigenschafteninfos mit Foto speichern as I have a german version) and then Import them in Lightroom it works.
But PSE does rewrite the complete file. As I have JPGs:
    - Is there any change, loss or recalculating on the Picturedata?
    - Is there a easier and faster way?

As far as reducing quality of picture data by writing tags, no.
From what I've read, it bascially writes that metadata into the file, and moves the pixel data up or down in the file without actually changing it, or recompressing it... it's not like when you save your edits to a file. (I was leary about doing it for a long time too.)
BTW: I think this is what it does also if you choose to write your lightroom edits to .xmp sidecars... for jpegs it writes that data into the acutal file, but only LR or newer versions of photoshop will read it.
I don't know of a faster way... but Elements 5 will keep your tag structure too, when you import? How about the top-level tags like Family, Places, etc? I used import from Elements 3.0, and I thought my tagging structure, and these top-level tags were lost too... maybe I need to try it again.

  • Move tags from photoshop elements 10 to photoshop elements 13

I have thousand of pictures all tagged with people, places, events in PE 10.  Just got PE 13.  When I bring in pictures the tags go under Keywords under Importated Keyword Tags and can't be moved to People Tags; Places Tags; Event tags.
Is there a way to get them to come in as imported Tags?

If you 'bring in' pictures by re-importing them in a new empty catalog, the organizer will find the tags recorded in the picture files themselves. It will not find the keyword/categories which are recorded in the catalog... unless you have saved that hierarchy before, which I'll explain later.
    - If you install PSE13 on the same computer, you don't reimport your picture files. You simply agree to the conversion proposal in the installation process. A new catalog is created including everything in the keyword/categories hierarchy and your albums, stacks, version sets etc. If you don't agree at installation time, you can always use the catalog manager later to convert any older catalog.
    - if you install on another computer, use the backup/restore method. Use Backup, Restore to move catalog | Organizer | Elements 6 or later
    - If for some reason you choose to re-import your files after using the 'write metadata to files' function, save your categories hierarchy in a text file : small drop-down menu in the title bar of the keywords panel. Create the new empty catalog in the new PSE version, and use the same drop-down menu to restore the hierarchy. Then you can import your picture files and the tags will go in the right hierarchy. Note that you won't recover albums etc like in the two previous solutions.

  • Lightroom Tags in Photoshop Elements 5

I have a huge PSE5 tagged catalog, but now I work in Lightroom and want to add keyworded JPEGs back into my PSE5 catalog. When I bring these Lightroom keyworded photos into PSE5 the tags aren't recognized. Is it possible to do this?

Did you write out your metadata in LR?

  • How do you convert a Photoshop Album 2.0 catalog to Photoshop Elements 13.0 catalog?

I have a lot of photographs with metadata and tags in Photoshop Album version 2.0 and I want to pull thee images, metadata, and tags into Photoshop Elements version 13.0 on a Windows 7 computer. Searching the web I found that this has to be done with the convert feature.  I tried File, Manage Catalogs, Convert and point to the folder holding my Photo Project Catalog.psa file, but nothing happens. It does not apparently see the .psa file.  How do I get my .psa catalog migrated into Elements 13?

    Hi,
    See if this helps.

  • Pls help - Photoshop Elements crashes when switching media types

Hello, I'm hoping someone can help.  I just installed Photoshop Elements 7 and Premiere Elements 7 on a brand new HP Pavilion system running Vista, 9 GB of RAM.  I then imported a catalog with ~18,000 photos and tags from Photoshop Elements v6 via backup from original system and restore to new HP system.  Worked like a charm.  Now I have the catalog open, and when I click on "View -> Media types -> anything else (Video, PDF, whatever)" irrespective of what I select, Photoshop Elements crashes.  The error message states, "Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0 (Organizer) has stopped working.  A problem cause the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."  Note this also happens when I use Ctrl-1 or other shortcuts.
Has anyone else seen this?  I literally powered up the HP today, and loaded Elements and Premiere today, so it's not likely due to old software (eg I did not install Photoshop Elements 6).
    Thanks all!
    Ed

Please delete the folder  C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Adobe\Elements Organizer\8.0\Organizer and relaunch to see if the problem vanishes.

  • Photoshop Elements 12 to Lightroom 5

I wanted to import my tags from Photoshop Elements 12 to Lightroom 5.  I read the manual and watched the video tutorial.  Both mention that you need to hit "upgrade Elements Catalog" in Lightroom 5.  However, I don't seem to have that option under "File".  What happened?

I do have PSE12 installed but have not actually tried it, but I just did. When I click upgrade, it only lists the PSE 11 catalog in the subsequent dialog. Maybe this is something to do with Elements transitioning to 64 bit.
The non-support for PSE12 is the same thing that happens every version of Lightroom and PSE ... support for converting PSE catalogs into Lightroom lags behind the the latest version of PSE. It has nothing to do with 64 bit.
I think drach is best to write the photo info to files in PSE Organizer and then import the images.
Or maybe wait until Lightroom 5.3 is released, perhaps the support for converting PSE12 catalogs into Lightroom will be in there.
File >> Save Metadata to Files
This method does work for transferring metadata to Lightroom, but some items in the PSE catalog will NOT be transferred in this way: Albums, Version sets, Stacks and a few other things that I can't remember right now.

  • Photoshop Elements 7 to iphoto 11 conversion?

I'm onsidering switching to iMac from PC (Vista).  I have all my photos organized (tagged) in Photoshop Elements 7.  Will I be able to transfer them, with the corresponding tags into iphoto 11?

Where are the tags stored?  If they are in the EXIF, maybe.  However, there is a PSE for Mac which should let you switch seemlessly.  You should ask in the iPhoto forum for better answers.

  • Photoshop Elements tags to Sharepoint?

I just started working as a work study at our local college and I've just been given the task of organizing and tagging 10,000+ photos on our college SharePoint server. The person who was working on this project before I joined was using Photoshop Elements to tag the pictures. She got a majority of them tagged, so I would hate to have to start from scratch and tag them on SharePoint. The question is, is there some way I can just import the picture along with the meta-data directly to SharePoint?

No, but People, Places and Events were dramatically changed in v11 onwards. I suggest you download the trial and convert your catalog to see if you like the new style. If you don't you can continue in the old style by renaming your tags in v8 to (say) 'My People', 'My Places' and then convert your catalog. Then they will come across as 'old style regular tags and you can ignore the new style.
