Taiwan - Downloading Movies/Episodes

I'm having trouble downloading tv episodes, movies, even songs that I've purchased in iTunes. I have two MacBook Pro's, an Apple TV and a couple of iPhones (4s & 5). None of them will complete a full download of a TV episode or movie and sometimes it will take several tries to get a song to download completely. I have checked all my network settings. I can browse the Itunes store and make purchases perfectly fine.
Episodes on my apple tv will load a few minutes and then get "stuck". If I FF a few frames it will restart, but then get stuck again. It usually will never completely load.
I can stream netflix fine over a vpn. I have tried downloading purchased items both over the VPN or just my regular connection and neither works. The regular connection has an average download speed of 15-20 Megabits per second.
Any thoughts?
Todd

We've lived here about three months now. I found something last night about TV episodes not being available on the Taiwan and other Asian iTunes stores...
So, I checked all my settings again on my routers, internet and vpn connections and this morning tried downloading an episode with/without the vpn. It worked using the vpn, didn't without. So maybe that is the problem and maybe there were some connection issues before that made the connection issue unstable and dropped it while downloading even when using the vpn.
It seems to be working fine now. I'll just have to figure out how to set up a vpn for my apple tv (haven't had much luck doing that) or download everything and play it over airplay.
If anyone finds anything different, I would like to know. Thanks

  • What does err= -50 mean?  It is occurring while downloading TV episodes and renting movies in iTunes.

I am receiving "err= -50" in iTunes while trying to download TV episodes and movie rentals from iTunes.  The downloads stop and will not resume.  Any advice?

Unfortunately it isn't a very meaningful error in terms of diagnosing the issue.
    http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php/t-31161.html
Error code -50 is a generic code meaning there's some sort of communication difficulty.
There's many computers and connections between you and those movies, and between your network box and where they are on your computer.
You could try a few general things such as rebooting the computer, or trying the download later.   Are these going to an external drive?

  • Suddenly I can't download podcast episodes to iPhone, but they'll still stream

I seem to no longer be able to download podcast episodes on to my iPhone. When I update/refresh podcasts, the little numbers appear over podcasts, indicating there are new episodes: but when I go through to the podcast, I see the little "cloud + arrow" icon (whereas before they'd download automatically). I press on the cloud/arrow icon: it dims briefly, but nothing happens. In the "My Stations" view, there's the command "Download all" at the bottom: if I press that, it dims briefly, but nothing happens.
The episodes still stream fine: if I play them, they'll play, with occasional lags from streaming. But I now seem unable to download them.
Is anyone else having this issue?
Please, please don't tell me this is just Apple's latest move in "improving" Podcasts: I'd be horrified but not entirely shocked if they decided "No, you don't really want to download podcasts - you should just stream them all the time, because that's the right way to do it. And you want to do it the right way, don't you? The Apple way. The only right way."
This appears to have started this morning, and I updated with iOS 7.0.4 last night. Maybe that's a coincidence, or maybe it's connected.
Just when I was reconciling myself to the Podcasts app ...
    Thanks in advance!

Well, the tried and true may have worked: I turned the iPhone off and then on again, and now downloads seem to be working properly. On/off button, is there anything you cannot do?

  • My Apple TV deletes downloaded movies/series before I've watched them. How do I stop this?

My Apple TV sometimes deletes downloaded movies/series before I've watched them. How do I stop the episodes /movies being deleted before I watch them?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Downloads are deleted to make room for something else or when the device is turned off, if you don't want your downloads removing, you need to avoid doing one of the things that will cause this.

  • Can't download podcast episodes over cellular data

I am running the current ios software and have the current Apple Podcast app installed. Since updating to 7.0.4 and installing the current app version, I now am having issues with downloading podcast episodes using cellular data specifically. You try and download an episode and it just freezes and then says "download error, tap to retry". You then get a massive popup saying "unable to download podcast" and underneath this, it says the podcast episode "could not be downloaded at this time". This happens not just with one specific podcast. I have tried everything I can think of and that Apple have suggested. I have:
    - Unsubscribed then resubscribed to podcasts I have seen this issue with
    - Closed out of the app and gone back in
    - Ensured at all times I have been attempting this, that cellular data has been on for podcasts
    - Switched cellular data off for podcasts and as a whole then I have switched back on
    - Done a hard reset of the phone
    - Deleted the Podcast app itself, reinstalled and then tried to download an episode over cellular data
    - Reset Network Settings
    - Performed a full restore of the device
After doing the restore, I set the phone up as new and then installed just the podcast app and was able to download an episode over cellular data. I then restored my data from backup and then all of a sudden, I had the same issue again. I did another reset of the network settings and then the issue went away. The issue has returned yet again today. I called Apple to advise and they say they will investigate and get back to me.
Has anyone else had this issue and have you managed to find a permanent solution? When I am on wifi, I don't have this issue at all. I attempted to download another app and a song from itunes over 3G and had no issues. As such, I can only conclude there must either be an issue with the app itself or ios7.0.4 has done some damage here. I like to download my podcasts on the train to work so don't always have the ability to download over 3G.
    A very annoying issue!

I am having same problem, except mine is a movie rental on 3rd gen ipad wifi. It seems like this problem has been occuring for quite a few years and apple cant be bothered to fix it. It is really annoying because none of the fixes work. My movie is 99% downloaded and i cant play it or delete or retry the download. Its gona be a few months before anyone from apple decides to post to this thread anyway. Its a real shame. In the apple store not one "genius" cud help with this either.

  • I am not a knowledgeable user - have what may be a stupid question!  I just purchased a TV show series on iTunes and downloaded all episodes for the season.  But I believe i want them on my iCloud instead of my laptop.  How do I transfer them or dupl

I am not a knowledgeable user - have what may be a stupid question!  I just purchased a TV show series on iTunes and downloaded all episodes for the season.  But I believe i want them on my iCloud instead of my laptop.  How do I transfer them to the Cloud or duplicate on the iCloud?

You can't transfer any purchase to the cloud yourself, whether a TV programme/series will show in the cloud for redownloading in the future depends upon what country that you are in (TV programmes can't be redownloaded in all countries), whether you move countries (you can't redownload purchases made in another country) and if the rights-holder keeps them in the store (they occasionally remove their items).
As you bought it on your laptop then you could turn Settings > iTunes & App Store > Videos (under 'show all') 'on' on your iPad and it might show in the Videos app on it with a cloud icon against it for streaming/redownloading (it might also show in the Purchased tab in the iTunes Store app for refownloading whether or not you turn that 'on') - but that depends upon your country and only whilst it remains in your country's store. Similarly if you delete it from your laptop and tick the 'show iTunes in the cloud purchases' tick box on the Store tab in Edit > Preferences it might show in the TV Shows part of your library for redownloading (and whether or not you tick that it might show in the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage for redownloading).
But you should be taking a backup copy of it, and anything else that you download from the stores, there is no guarantee that you will be able to redownload any item.

  • Can't see downloaded movie on Apple TV

Can't seem to see the movie I downloaded from the computer on the Apple Tv. Bought and Downloaded some episodes of Dora at the same time, and they are showing and can be played under tvshows. Have checked the settings on iTunes and it shows as home sharing on, same with the ATV. Anyone else had this problem?

Home Sharing is playing up - you should see Movies/Rentals (on computer)/TV Shows etc under Computers.
Might be stating the obvious but computer and itunes need to be running for Home Sharing to work.
Might not help but try restarting your router.  For some reason AppleTV and iTunes on the computer are not detecting each other - they should if both are on the same LAN, but occasionally security software or spurious factors prevent this.
Are you on Windows or Mac platform? Which OS version? iTunes up to date?
Any security software running that might be blocking access?
iTunes purchases can either be played over the LAN from the computer (Computers icon) or streamed over the internet (Movies/TV Shows icons).  Your Dora purchases if accessed under TV Shows icon >Purchased are actually playing from the internet not the computer.

  • When downloading movies form netflix my apple tv streaming keeps stopping ?      ?

While streaming movies from Netflix through Apple TV, the movies keep stopping. My WIFI signal is strong. Can anyone help? Thank You.

Ok so I've been doing more testing. It's all videos on the iTunes store. Anytime I try to download a podcast or stream it or anything it's super slow. To download an episode of Diggnation it tells me over 2 hours to download but the time keeps climbing and I just stop the transfer.
Some people said it's an Open DNS thing? Maybe it is but it's not computer specific and I couldn't find a way to change the DNS settings in my Airport, only on each computer. I tried deleting PLists and restoring my Apple TV and restoring my Airport and nothing is working.
I don't know if it an issue with me, my ISP or Apple. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

  • Error = -100008 while downloading Movie/TV Shows

I have endlessly tried to download 2 TV shows (1 bought, 1 free) and 1 free movie but keep getting the error message -100008. My iTunes is updated and so is my Quicktime. Also, I downloaded the latest versions of my drivers because before then I couldn't listen to any file in my iTunes folder after downloading the new version of iTunes.
After I receive the error I tried rebooting and going to "Check for Purchases" where I am able to download again but it starts from the beginning and gives me the same error message again. Have been trying to get these files for 2 days now to no avail. Please help!!

I also have this problem while I try to download an episode of Battlestar Galactica. I've retried the download over and over. During this time I was able to download a song, so I don't know the problem...

  • Error 400; cannot download Podcast episode

iTunes 7.1.1 returns an error message when I try to download a podcast from the HeartPodCast.org. It works well on other computers (windows). It does allow me to download 1 episode, a PDF file. On the two movie files it returns an error.
"There was a problem downloading "Episode 1 : Introduction of educational podcasting". An unknown error occurred (400).
please check that the URL is correct and the connection to the network is active and try again"
I looked this error code up and could only find a reference to an old iTunes version to clean up the Safari cookies, which I did and this didn't help.
    Apple iMac G4 1,25   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   iTunes 7.1.1

Resolved!! The creater of the RSS/Podcast feed reported an error and correction on the two movie files.

  • ITunes Downloads Same Episode Simulataneously?

    iTunes 6.0.1, 12" PowerBook G4 867 MHz, 256 MB RAM, Mac OS X 10.4.3
    iTunes 6.0.1, 15" eMac 1.0 GHz, 256 MB RAM, Mac OS X 10.3.9
I am downloading 5 episodes of "Monk" and we thought that I I used Advanced>Check for Purchases on our eMac that maybe we could download more from that purchase to speed it up (for instance, if the PowerBook downloaded the first episode, the eMac should download the second, right?). Well, instead of following what we wanted it to do, the eMac started downloading the same episode. Isn't that kind of a purchasing workaround? People could get all their computers to download the same purchases at the same time! Very interesting.
P.S. I realize that it's okay to copy the episode to another authorized computer, but isn't this a little odd?

To help others, there are some things that helped me out.  (Again, this is on my mac, not an i device)
    - Force quit itunes, then launch it again.   Often the downloads will resume
    - in itunes, click on Store -> Check for available downloads - that might get a download restarted
    - Check the folder ~/music/itunes/itunes music/downloads.   There may be folders/files for the hung downlaods.   Trash them then try re-try one of the two uggestions above
    - in preferences -> store check the Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases box.   This fixed a stubborn one for me.  After checking the box, waiting a while, then quitting and re-launching itunes, my failed music downloads showed up in my music folder with a cloud next to them - that let me download a few stubbon songs.
Of course, none of this should be happening at all.   I'm just wondering if all of Apple is on vacation and this won't get addressed until January...

  • I am trying to download the new episode of Game of Thrones on my iPad. We are currently travelling in Italy and have an unlimited pre- paid data plan with the Italian carrier Wind.  When I try download the episode through iTunes I get an error message

Hi there, traveling through Italy with my iPad. Purchased a unlimited prepaid data plan with Italian carrier WIND.  Has been working excellent, but when I try to download a new episode of Game of Thrones, I get an error message which says that I have to connect to a wi fi network or download the episode on my MacBook.  Why can't I download using the microsim and prepaid data plan?  Any help will be great thank you!

Unfortunately downloads larger than 20mbps require wifi due to most carriers having data limits. This "requirement" keeps people who are not familiar with data and what takes up a lot of data from going over.

how do I add another device on to my apple ID account so that I can download movies etc.. from my icloud to any of the 3 devices on the account?   I already have my iphone and ipad on the account and for some reason my 3rd device (apple TV) dropped off.   If you can help, greatly appreciated!!

    Hello there, HannaGriffin.
Since the Apple TV (1st Generation) is the only one that has storage, I would recommend the following Knowledge Base articles for troubleshooting issues with authorization:
Apple TV (1st generation) may not play content purchased from the iTunes Store

  • HT5731 I bought a full season of a TV show. I downloaded all episodes. When I go into my iTunes library, select the episodes I get a message of: This computer is already associated with an Apple ID. I can't for the life of me get the TV show to play.

I bought a full season of a TV show. I downloaded all episodes, I went to my  iTunes library, selected the episode I wanted to watch. I got this message: This computer is already associated with an Apple ID. I can't for the life of me get the TV shows to play. I went on iTunes and when to my purchases. Clicked on the episodes and the same message popped up. How do I get these to play? I also see my download box with an error message saying it has paused the download. I click unpause and it just pauses again. I have been able to get one of the episodes to play once through, but now it gives me the same message.

It's been months, so you may not care anymore, but you can't download songs from multiple Apple IDs over a 90 days period.  Sorry, it's not allowed for legal reasons.
