Takes 15 minutes to burn a CD... Why so slow?

I just switched from a 4-year old laptop to a new one and find that it takes forever to burn an hour's worth of music. It used to take just a few minutes on my old clunker, and now it takes 15 minutes or more on a top-notch laptop. What's going on? What can I do to optimize the burn speed? I have the burn speed preferences set to "maximum possible." I tried other settings, but none of them were any better.
Help!

  • IMac 2.8 Ghz, Intel Corei5 with 8gb of ram takes 5 minutes to start up! why so slow???

    I ran MacKeeper yesterday to see if I had problems with something, it cleaned up a lot of stuff, but still, this morning it took 5 minutes to start up!

    MacKeeper is malware and may the reason for your problems. No maintenance software of any type is needed for OS X, it will maintain itself! OS X is NOT MS Windows and does not require a lot of user intervention to run smoothly. Following Apple's instructions in your owners manual is your best bet!
    Please follow the developers instructions for removing MacKeeper immediately!!!!!!!
    To solve your startup issues first check System Preferences - Users & Groups - Login Items  and remove applications and files that are not needed on startup.
    Also if you are running Lion or later (10.7.x) then quit applications prior to shutdown and/or follow the onscreen directions when shutting down. Also please carefully read your owners manual about shutting down your system, Apple recommends putting the system to sleep.
    Finally please complete your profile, attempting to help someone when we don't know anything about their system is difficult at best. If you don't know how please click Profile Update for instructions.

  • BI 11G : logging in into reporting services takes minutes before landing

    All,
    logging in into em/console works relatively fine....but when I want to log in into analytics...it takes minutes before I'm logged in.
    I have the same problem when I want to log in into Administrator or Catalog manager (online)
    Installation is on Linux (32bit) - client tools on windows.
    At this moment I have no clue what can cause this problem. Anyone already noticed the same issue or has some good tips?

    Hej Nico,
    it was a pretty stupid one...
    I migrated my rpd...and didn't change the connection pool settings correctly to point to my new db.
    That was already a problem of course ;-)
    And because I had some initialization blocks defined in the rpd, it took a while before they turned an error....
    and that was the reason why it took such a long time before I could log in into the reporting environment or a client tool.
    Once I had disabled the init blocks, it was no problem. And after I changed the connection pool correctly everything was solved.
    Hope things are more clear now.
    Txs,

  • Firefox.exe process takes minutes to stop!

    After using Firefox for a while, I try to stop it and it takes MINUTES to stop. CPU usage on firefox.exe goes to 99 percent and my computer is basically unusable for minutes until the process stops. I've tried to solve this problem many times over the past year and none of the solutions out there work.
    CPU usage at 99%. Memory usage over 100MB. Usage starts to drop to 70-90MB and stops, then it starts increasing again, then goes to 50-70 MB, then starts rising again. After MINUTES, it will finally stop. It completely consumes all computer resources and even takes a while to start the process monitor with CTRL-ALT-DEL!!!!
    Computer: Dell laptop, XP SP2, Firefox 3.6.10.
    I've seen MANY post here and elsewhere with people having this problem. Why won't you fix this??!?! NEED HELP!!! Don't want to go back to IE!

    Can someone help me to find a way to make my firefox show itself faster after you click on the icon?

  • It takes minutes to delete each message

    I can only with great difficulty - very slow - read each message. If I want to delete it afterwards it may take minutes to be moved to the trash folder. This is happening since a few days ago I opened an attachment which was not from a friend but from Argentina.

    Why are you opening attachments from strangers? You probably got some kind of malware from doing that.

    Try the following to rule out a software problem.:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
    Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
    All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Dialog with a lot of XML content takes minutes to open in IE7.

    Good day to all.
    This is my first week with JDeveloper ADF, so, please, be forgiving. I have a page, which has this code
    <af:commandButton text="Show XML" id="cl2"
    action="dialog:showxml" useWindow="true"
    windowHeight="200" windowWidth="500"
    partialSubmit="true">
    When clicked, this one is invoked:
    <f:verbatim>
    <jsp:include page="xml_original.xml"/>
    </f:verbatim>
    The xml file is 500KB. The dialog pops up very fast in Firefox, but in IE7 it takes minutes to open. When opening it in the page, without the dialog, the performance is fast.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

    Does it open fast when you load the xml file manually in IE (without using it from the ADF / dialog)?
    something like http://<host>:<port>/..../xml_original.xml ?

    == Some time back, beggining with Firefox updates, at least three, or more updates ago.

    Thanks for the tip. I took the following steps:
    1) Backed up the existing profile (presumably corrupted somewhere);
    2) Deleted the existing profile;
    3) Moved the existing Firefox to the Trash and downloaded a fresh copy;
    4) Started Firefox (thus allowing it to create its default profile)
    5) Copied the following files from the backup copy of the previous profile: places.sqlite, key3.db, signons.sqlite, permissions.sqlite, persdict.dat, cert8.db ---
    I'm posting this from a Firefox browser, so I guess I'm OK now.

  • Version 8 takes longer to burn CD's on songs I purchased

    Hi,
    I have noticed that ever since I upgraded to version 8, it takes longer to burn CD's of songs I purchased. Has anyone else noticed this? It takes about anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes

    One of the other problems is that I put in a blank c.d. and after a while it spits it out. (forgot to mention)  I end up putting songs on my "flash" drive from iTunes and transfered them to my "old" iMac where I was able to burn.
    One of two things:
    1. Bad CD - (if it does it outside of iTunes as well) older optical drives may read them when newer ones won't.
    2. Bad drive or software - Heat will kill optical drives, and it's just possible that the iTunes update has affected it.
    I use an external DVD-R/RW/DVDRAM drive so I haven't had any problems with 11.1.1 yet.

  • Firefox takes minutes to load upon starting up and changing web pages

    When I open firefox in Windows Vista, it takes minutes(sometimes up to ten) to start up.Once firefox has loaded and I go to visit another web page, it takes minutes to load that web page. I downloaded Firefox 3.6.7 when it first came out, and it just recently started doing this. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox, but this did not work. It is not a problem with my internet connection or operating system, because internet explorer and safari only takes seconds to load up and load web pages. I have run various scans to see if it was a virus or a bug, but nothing came up. How do I fix this, because using Internet Explorer is really getting on my nerves?
