Takes 3 minutes to start up?

Hello,
Everything was going great when using my eMac. I then shut it off and came back 30 minutes later and hit the power switch and expecting the white sreen with the apple logo well i was sitting there for a good 3-4 minutes waiting for it to come on. Then it did and it booted as normal. I restarted it and it did the same thing. It used to take 3-4 seconds after the chime for the screen not 3-4 minutes. I checked apple's resources no help. any help would be greatly appreciated.

After the computer has finished starting up, open the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences and select the hard disk as the startup disk, or press the X key when you turn the computer on.

  • Lexmark C544DN network attached printer takes minutes to start printing job

I recently purchased a macbook pro 13" i am moving from a windows 7 environment. My network attached Lexmark C544DN takes up to 2 minutes to start printing the print job, it did not act this way under windows. I have gotten the latest firmware and drivers for the printer, from the Lexmark website, in attempt to figure out the problem. My network hub- router is an airport extreme. I have noticed that at times when surfing the internet safari pauses when loading the page, this appears to be random not associated with certain websites. Not sure if the two are related but since both are using network protocols one may have to do with the other.
I am looking for things to look into that may cause such a problem and how to look into them as I am fairly computer savvy but my experience with the Mac OS X 10.6.5 is limited to going on two weeks now.
I should probably mention that the Mac network is solo not a hybrid with windows and mac together.
Thanks for any advice that can be given on this problem.

  • Macbook air 11" blacks out takes minutes to start back up again.

I have had this problem on and off since last November. First started when I using a LCD projector and I thought that was the issue. Last time it did it was last night...did it a number of times in succession. Now I am flipped out because this the my travel laptop. I will be working on ti, it blacks out and shuts down. Sometimes it stays down for a minute other time it stays that way for longer.
Is someone else having this problem?

    HI..
    Try a Safe Mode boot.
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe mode, click Restart from the Apple  drop down menu.
Then monitor to see if the Mac blacks out again.

Im using a Macbook Pro, running a Mac OS 10.6.8, with 400GB  free of space and it is running slow. It takes more than 15 minutes to start up and things like that. I cant seem to do anything as it is so slow. The 'beachball of death' is also present during start up. What should I do? Please help

    Try these two steps first.
Get the Original Installation disk and boot the MBP holding down the C key.  When you get to the point where you see a menu bar on the top of the display, select UTILITIES.  From the drop down menu select DISK UTILITY>FIRST AID.  Run verify and repair.
See if there is any improvement.
    Try a Safe Boot:

This might indicate that third party applications are an issue.

  • MacBook pro takes more than 10 minutes to start with ML ?

My Macbook pro takes more than 10 minutes to start. I press Start and it takes more than 10 minutes before I can enter my password. Need your help !

Sounds like time for a PRAM reset. Here's how:
    1. Power down the machine.
    2. Locate the following keys on your keyboard in preparation for Step 4:
    ‘command’ – ‘option’ – ‘P’ – ‘R’
    3. Press the ‘power on’ button.
    4. Immediately – and before the grey screen appears – hold down ‘command-option-P-R’ all together.
    5. Keep them held down until you’ve heard the start-up chime twice. After you release them you should hear it again, and hopefully your Mac will boot up as normal.

== Some time back, beggining with Firefox updates, at least three, or more updates ago.

Thanks for the tip. I took the following steps:
    1) Backed up the existing profile (presumably corrupted somewhere);
    2) Deleted the existing profile;
    3) Moved the existing Firefox to the Trash and downloaded a fresh copy;
    4) Started Firefox (thus allowing it to create its default profile)
    5) Copied the following files from the backup copy of the previous profile: places.sqlite, key3.db, signons.sqlite, permissions.sqlite, persdict.dat, cert8.db ---
I'm posting this from a Firefox browser, so I guess I'm OK now.

  • Firefox takes minutes to load upon starting up and changing web pages

When I open firefox in Windows Vista, it takes minutes(sometimes up to ten) to start up.Once firefox has loaded and I go to visit another web page, it takes minutes to load that web page. I downloaded Firefox 3.6.7 when it first came out, and it just recently started doing this. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox, but this did not work. It is not a problem with my internet connection or operating system, because internet explorer and safari only takes seconds to load up and load web pages. I have run various scans to see if it was a virus or a bug, but nothing came up. How do I fix this, because using Internet Explorer is really getting on my nerves?

  • After Restoring My Mac Book Pro it takes over 3-5 minutes to start!

I have a macbook pro version 10.6.5 it recently crashed and I restored it with my time share backup and now it takes a good 5 minutes to start up and is very slow in opening safari pages. What can I do to get it back to running on normal speed?

How much free space on the startup disk?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free disk space.
Freeing Up Hard Disk Space - Mac Guides
And check System Preferences > Accounts / Login Items. Delete any apps you have listed there to launch when you startup your Mac.

  • Javascript (in Firefox 3) takes several minutes to start working when computer wakes from sleep, Mac OSX 10.5.8

Whenever I wake my Mac from sleep, with Firefox having been left running, some parts of Firefox take several minutes to start working again. These include switching between open tabs and any website functionality that uses javascript, eg gmail. This has gone on through many updates of Firefox. If I quit Firefox immediately on waking the Mac and restart it, everything is OK.

    The following worked for me:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/684867
"Problem: I had the same problem but with mac osx 10.5.8, Firefox 3.6.6 sometimes prints and sometimes does not, but the preview was always blank and I could not save to pdf file.
Solution: I downloaded Firefox 3.5.10, installed it on my desktop and opened it, tried print preview and it worked, quit Firefox 3.5.10 and ran 3.6.6 and voila! print preview is working fine and I can save to pdf fine.
I guess running 3.5.10 fixes the profile in a certain way. I have no idea how that happened but it worked."

  • My computer takes 5 minute to start

my macbook pro takes almost 5 minutes to start...  what can i do to correct this....

First, make sure the boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk preference pane. If it is, continue as follows.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

I know it doesn't answer your specific question but you could experiment with another AUR helper.  Or just use makepkg.

  • Why does it take 40 minutes to start watching a rental on Apple TV but only seconds to start watching Netflix?

Why does it take 40 minutes to start watching a rental on Apple TV but only seconds to start watching Netflix?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.
Netflix movies are adaptive and vary their quality according to your connection and can be as low as 0.5 Mbps.
But remember lower datarates = lower quality.

  • ITunes takes 30 minutes to start

After recently installing the newest iTunes update, iTunes has been taking about thirty minutes to start. Whenever I attach a device, such as an iPhone or iPod, or even put in a CD, similar results ensue, with iTunes taking another 10-20 minutes to respond, completely frozen all the while. I've read about this problem as much as I could online and I know it does not have to do with any kind of conflicting LSPs. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times now, which has done absolutely nothing. Could it be as simple as downgrading to a previous version? Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Hello idnasyarrel,
Thank you for providing the details of the issues you are experiencing when launching and using iTunes.  I found an article with steps you can take to isolate and troubleshoot an issue like this:

  • JDeveloper 11.1.1.7 takes over 45 minutes to start

    Hi,
I have windows 7 64 bit with 64 bit JDK 1.7. My jDeveloper 11.1.1.7 takes over 45 minutes to start, even the previous versions took similar long time. I have McAfee running on my system and have 8 GB RAM and more than 100 GB HDD on my C drive. I tried playing with the tuning parameters as mentioned in few blogs, but nothing seems to help.

Indeed, McAfee caches what it has previously scanned. I've had different versions of McAfee where this has been, and hasen't been a problem.
It's pretty easy to tell on Windows if McAfee is the culprit. Open the Task Manager and watch is McAfee active (consuming CPU) during the whole process of opening JDev.
If so you're going to have to work with your IT department to get exemptions for JDev put in place if it is.
