Takes a million to start vista

Brand new Q200 boughted on 1st Feb, 2009
Core 2 Duad Q6600 2.4G, Ram 2G, 500G hard drive (100G for system C, graphic ATI Radeon 2600pro
Windows vista home premium, upgraded to vista SP1.
it's amazing slow to start up (4+minutes) and close(2+minutes) my vista, altough it's fast after started.
i have closed most of startup programs, done the defragmentation, disk clean, anti-virus process, etc.
it seems there must be some kind of conflicts between Vista and OneKeyRecover software(version 5.2).
the harddrive is quite noisy when i'm starting the computer, for a long time.
is that because of the prefetch funtion or virtual Ram, or instant recover & backup functions.
Can i only keep the base backup function while close instant recover and backup functions?
Thanks.

IDK if this works for everybody but for shutdown I just used Tuneup Utilities 2009. I downloaded it and ran a few diagnostics and fixing apps from it and my PC went from shutting down in 5 minutes to 30 seconds. Did nothing for Bootup though. I highly recommend tunups. It fixes prblems you dont even know are there. Hope this helped.

problem is while giving the startup command it takes more time to start the >database and the same during the shutdownHow have you compared? Could it be O/S resources, installation of additional software; you have not mentioned the O/S and complete version of your database.
    You can review the following although I am bit unclear;

  • ITunes takes 20+ seconds to start playing!!!

Just "upgraded" to 8.1 on my PowerBook G4 (10.4.11). I use iTunes to listen to radio talk shows I recorded. Now when I select one press play it takes forever for it start playing! I get the spinning colored wheel and have to wait and wait every time I pause play...
AND during this waiting period I can't do anything else on the computer, everything freezes for 20 to 30 seconds.....

The delay to start playing long MP3's in iTunes appears to have been corrected....when starting to play only. If you pause and move the play location to a new location, then press play again there is still like a 20 to 30 second wait to start playing again. HOWEVER if you do NOT press the Pause button (and move the location icon to a new time/location) it appears you do not get this "start up delay"....
But I have discovered another problem. For the longest time I tried to figure out how to convert an MP3 to a Podcast. I STILL really don't understand what a "Podcast" is technically (a MP3 with another file to save location data?). I just wanted my iPod to remember my play location in the long four hour radio talk shows I record and listen to (so if I go listen to music and come back to my show I don't need to search for my location). Anyway, in my search I discovered the "Remember playback position" feature (do a Get Info on your MP3, click Options)! I had no idea I could add that to an MP3....anyway, in my quest to make a podcast I discovered the "feature" which pretty much does what I want. Great.
BUT I discovered something....say I start listening to a show on my iPod and I listen for 1 hour 10 minuets. I then pause, and connect my iPod to my computer. I then open iTunes and want continue listening to my show from the point I left off...so when I select the show in my iPod and press Play in iTunes it starts playing at 1:10....which it will do. But when I do this it takes like two minuets to start playing again! Apple, you guys aware of this issue? I discovered it the first time I uses the "Remember playback position" feature.
The "Remember playback position" is great, but please the very long delay to start playing again...

I am using my iPhone 5 to take pictures and have started a blog with pictures. I am not able to do the update on my phone due to lack of memory. I wanted to know how much difference this will make to my pictures.
If anyone had suggestions on how to maximize picture quality n use without the update, I'd appreciate it
    <Link Edited By Host>

If the lack of space on your phone is due to pictures, you may want to consider transferring some (or all) to a computer and deleting them from the phone. That is a good practice even if you have space on the phone. Instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083

  • Javascript (in Firefox 3) takes several minutes to start working when computer wakes from sleep, Mac OSX 10.5.8

Whenever I wake my Mac from sleep, with Firefox having been left running, some parts of Firefox take several minutes to start working again. These include switching between open tabs and any website functionality that uses javascript, eg gmail. This has gone on through many updates of Firefox. If I quit Firefox immediately on waking the Mac and restart it, everything is OK.

    The following worked for me:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/684867
"Problem: I had the same problem but with mac osx 10.5.8, Firefox 3.6.6 sometimes prints and sometimes does not, but the preview was always blank and I could not save to pdf file.
Solution: I downloaded Firefox 3.5.10, installed it on my desktop and opened it, tried print preview and it worked, quit Firefox 3.5.10 and ran 3.6.6 and voila! print preview is working fine and I can save to pdf fine.
I guess running 3.5.10 fixes the profile in a certain way. I have no idea how that happened but it worked."

I know it doesn't answer your specific question but you could experiment with another AUR helper.  Or just use makepkg.

  • Why does it take 40 minutes to start watching a rental on Apple TV but only seconds to start watching Netflix?

Why does it take 40 minutes to start watching a rental on Apple TV but only seconds to start watching Netflix?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.
Netflix movies are adaptive and vary their quality according to your connection and can be as low as 0.5 Mbps.
But remember lower datarates = lower quality.

Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Go to his website, download and run EtreCheck:
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
Don't be concerned about anything that says "Problem" or "failed".
Copy and paste its output in a reply.
Etrecheck was designed to remove any personal information (such as your computer's name and serial numbers) but if you see anything that looks like an email address or any other personal information that should not be divulged to others, please delete or obscure that information when you post the reply.
When you are finished with EtreCheck, quit the program. It occupies very little space, and you can keep it or drag it to the Trash as you wish.

  • After installing VS 2013 my Excel/Word/PowerPoint 2010 student edition takes much longer to start-up...

    Hi,
After installing Visual Studio Community 2013, my Excel/Word/PowerPoint 2010 student edition takes much longer to start-up. Whenever I open Excel/Work/PowerPoint, the Windows Installer configures VS Studio 2013 each time. Is this the normal behavior, can
    I stop this?

    Thank you for your response.
I actually found the answer I was looking for through a couple of URL's below:
    1. This first URL walked me through everything I needed to do find the actual warning using the Event Viewer and then the fix. There are two command for the suggested fix (remove and addlocal registry items) but since I don't think MS Office 2010 student
edition came with VBA support (I could be wrong), I only did the REMOVE command. After that, launching my Office apps now only takes  a couple of seconds instead of 2-3 minutes. Here's the first URL (http):
Since I'm not allowed to post a link yet:
The blog is from MSDN by Heath Stewart (MSFT) dated May 29, 2009 "how-to-workaround-the-issue-when-opening-office-applications-repairs-visual-studio"
    2. The second URL (https) below is from a forum with similar issue that confirmed what I had to do. In this forum the helpee ran the suggested two commands and had the same warning:

This next URL is from Anne Jing's thread dated Jan 6-9, 2015:
So, I decided to do as helpee did.

Is case important? Can it be "EPI"?
I think case is important, so do it like Shakir showed you, but put it in upper case.

hi there   is any one now why my macbook take 20 minutes to start up? please help

... I then downloaded MacKeeper and to clean my MacBook up
Whatever was wrong MacKeeper made it worse. Get rid of that junk.

Only when you are completely certain that MacKeeper is completely eradicated, fix the problem. Do not install some magical cure-all. There are no such things. They can only waste your time and money as they make your problems worse.

  • SL takes longer time to start up and shut down after "IceClean".

    Greetings,
After "IceClean" (both maintenance and cleanup), SL seems (obviously) to take longer time to start up and shut down.
Any idea why and how can I resolve it?
    Thank you so much.
    Cheers.

    Hi,
I've finally able to solve the problem. The problem was due to start up item. There were 2 trial application (expired long ago) in the folder. After clearing the application, start up and shut down are fast as light.
I think I've "awaken" the start up application after "IceClean" as IceClean has deleted their log file or something like that and therefore the applications have to run again.
In order to be fair to IceClean, it is my fault to be blamed.
    Thanks again.
    Cheers
