Takes/Comp "dead" area at beginning of swipe

In Logic 8, went to fix a vocal part in a track previously recorded in Logic 7. I did not have "Replace" enabled so it was recorded as a new "Take". A little startled but I did some manual diving and saw what was happening.
But... Wherever I start my "swipe", I get a small area of "dead space" in front. The Takes/Comps thing looks like a great tool and I have the MacProVideo Logic 8 instructional piece on this and when Martin goes through it, it looks great. But no matter what I do, I get this dead spot that is not quite 1 beat that preceeds the beginning of my swipe. I can move the window back and forth to see the audio and the "dead zone" moves also.
Really frustrating. So I'll just either use Replace or just create another separate track.
Anyone else have this issue?
I was wondering if it might be a "transition" issue since the original track was done in Logic 7. I have not tried using this feature on any track or projects begun in Logic 8.

Multichannel recording and takes/comps

I'm recording a drum kit with 6 mics, each onto a separate track and doing multiple takes. Now I'd like to select the best material from each take. Is there a way I can avoid redundantly having to select the sections of takes for each track? Some way of grouping the tracks?
Or, is there a better way to approach drum recording and mixing takes in general?
Note: I'm actually using Logic Express 8. Posting to this forum in hopes of reaching more people.

Do a search in this forum. Pretty sure it's been discussed in detail numerous times before.
The manual might also be helpful, particularly the section on 'groups'.
You need to create a group, then assign the group behavior to include "edit selection" (so selecting any of the group tracks selects all of'em), and that way any take/comp swipes you move will apply to all the tracks in that group.
Not sure if all these functions are available in Express though.
It can also be helpful to split your take folders at certain key song positions (verse, chorus, bridge, etc) to make editing takes simpler.
Also, the dreaded 'Take Swipe Bug' still exists despite what some others may tell you. As soon as you've made your picks, do a "Save As" with a new song title, like "Songname_DrmFLAT" and FLATTEN your take folders. This will prevent any weirdness down the road. Trust me, it can ruin your day real fast...

That's corrected, they save to your camera roll.

We used to have great service, now it sucks! Constantly dropping calls, dead areas that have never been dead. Getting fed up and getting no help from Verizon.

Dead area in menu bar

With OS X 10.5.7, there seems to be a dead area in the very top of the menu bar that, when clicked, deactivates the current window within an app, resulting in all of the menu items going dim.
Anyone else see this problem and/or any fixes reported?

Thanks for the response, guys. Here's the rundown:
- seemed like a reboot helped, but after closing the laptop and reopening, the problem reappeared.
- more detail on symptom: I think upon further reflection, clicking in the top pixel row on screen stays in the application (or Finder), but deselects the current window. If the app has a Window menu, I'm able to select a window from that dropdown.
- on the latest reboot, the problem reappeared
V.K. : Tried the terminal command you recommended after latest reboot -- didn't help.
Any other things to try?

There is a dead area in the center of the display. Display is normal on both sides. Cursor will cross it but disappears when going through it. Has anyone seen this?

Get total number of comps that are used in the opened project?

Does anyone know how i can get the total number of comps in the project-panel or the total number of comps that are used in the opened project?
This is what i have so far, however it's not exactly what I am looking for:

You can get the total number of comps with pretty much what you have

You could look at the usedIn attribute of each comp to see how many comps appear in other comps, but that won't identify your top-level comp. I'm not sure how you would do that unless you just bump the count by 1:

I was wondering if towers are still being built in dead areas and roaming areas.

So, my iPad cannot roam in extended coverage and I was wondering if you guys are still building towers in dead areas with no service and roaming areas. It would be nice to access data service mostly everywhere, even in mountainous areas. So I was wondering if you guys are fixing the roaming and dead areas. I think every town in the United States needs coverage also in parks like the grand canyon, so I was wondering about that. Thanks!

now i can use zoom and swipe for read text in bigger size ( make easier to read ) , but now there is two problem :
1. when i zoom the text grows in stage and will cover all my screen and other part , and i don't want this , i just want the zoom function effect on the textzoom movieclip area .
2.the swipe function will continue till the text goes out of stage and disappeared !! how can i stop swipe function before textzoom movieclip goes out of stage completely ? so user can detect and see the corner of text and swipe them back

HT201401 My pictures are not showing up in my camera roll after I take them, where are they going?

My photos are not showing up in my photo stream after I take them, what could be wrong? Brand new phone, camera is working, older photos from cloud are there but not new ones that I am taking.

Reset the iPhone then take a photo. See if it shows up in the camra roll.
If not, reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
Then try a photo.

First off it would be good to learn how to use iPhoto - editing is one of the most basic operations - what version of iPhoto do you have? Have you watched the videos and looked in Help?
In general you select the photo can click edit - to straighten you use the "Straighten tool" - to remove areas around the photo you use the "crop tool"

That was the first thing I thought but netflix and youtube are working great. I have noticed that it only seems to be happening on movies created using my kodak sport recorder. I am not sure if it is something to do with the source or the size of the movies.

Packing Split Stereo Files in a Take (Comp) Folder

Hi,
Except for composite.xml, none of the other files you mentioned(wsdl file, xsd, .jca, .xml etc.) have code in them. .jca file is like config file for JCA Adapters,wsdl and xsd are service artifacts.
The control starts with the endpoint of the service and would propagate to the other components of the composite like mediator,bpel,human taskflow or references like database adapter,JMS adapter depending on the composite design.

Can't deauthorize old comp. where are my songs!!!!!

I got a new comp. and can't deauthorize my old one. all my songs are in the old one and the new iTunes won't let me transfer my songs to the new computer. I get an error when trying to deauthorize the old one... Error 44134. CAN ANYONE HELP!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. The transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

What Comp Settings are Best/Flexible for Animated Tutorials 4 Multiple Devices laptop, iPad, and TV?

I'm making animated tutorials on a particular subject. I will have these on a website and want them to be viewable on devices ranging from laptops to iPads to TV to iPhones. I believe one approach to setting my Comp Settings for AE is to use a Preset like HDV/HDTV 720 which results in 1280x 720 pixels, 720 pixel resolution, square pixels, and a 16:9 ratio. The advantage, as I understand it, is that it will work for HDTV and that, if I use something like YouTube, horizontal letterboxing will be the result in a 4:3 format (of course, with black lines top and bottom).
Unfortunately, this seems to make great sense if the content is, say, from video photography of scenes. My content is animation and enough text at times to make me think horizontal letterboxing will make that text too small to read... that I will sacrifice some content and quite a bit of readability in such horizontally letterboxed setups. Am I better off sticking with Comp settings at, say, a 4:3 ratio and accepting the "black pillars" on wide devices? If so, what should my resolution be and what should the absolute width and absolute height be in pixels? 640x480? 1280x960? Something else? My main concern hear is that I have enough pixels and resolution so that inages remain clear on TV.
Anything you can enlighten me on here will be greatly appreciated. Is there a great discussion/tutorial on this somewhere? Because I'm having the growing creepy sensation that the more movies I make, the more "fixing" I'm going to be needing to do when I start up my website. Please pull this thorn out of my paw! Thanks Bogie san! This is a big help to getting me started. And the link got me a little farther into Media encoder as well as Group of Pictures, intra-frame, and inter-frame.
One more related question... which will no doubt look simple (minded) but have an answer fraught with complexity.
If you were me (don't panic!), and you're making animated tutorials in AE with lots of illustration (some created in Illustrator and some in After Effects) and a significant amount of text from time to time (e.g., sometimes there are several boxes with, say, five English words in them, plus some drawings in the same frame with the boxes so that, although the frames are not cluttered, I also do not have the option of extremely large font sizes)...
...AND you believe most of your users will view from laptops, from LCD desktop monitors, and from iPads and the like (not iPhones so much)... with HDTV being something you view as an option it would be "just nice to have" though not necessary...
...what parameters would you choose when you set up your AE files?
As a straw example, lets say I select 640 x 480 (4/3 pixel ratio) because I think, rightly or wrongly, that would be good on YouTube. Should I double each number, keeping the 4/3 ratio? Do nothing? Do something different? What about pixel resolution? Am I worrying about this too much?
And, yes, I did pay attention when you said, "That's not an After Effects topic." I'm just not saavy enough yet to know what that really means.
