Takes half a minute to connect to wifi after sleep

I close the lid and my macbook goes to sleep but it take 20 seconds to 30 secs to reconnect to my  wifi. Anything I can do?

Do you have a lot of wireless networks settings saved? If so, go to System Preferences / Network. Click your wifi connection, then the Advanced button. Drag your most used connections to the top of the list.

  • Mac takes over a minute to connect to Wifi

    Hi there,
This has only just started happening over the past 2 weeks, on bootup it takes around a minute for it to search for any wifi networks and then eventually connects to it.
I have an iMac 27 inch Mid 2010 with an SSD installed so bootup takes around 10-15 secs and then wait a minute for it to pick any wifi up.
I have 10.9.2 installed, not sure if installing 10.9.2 has broke it somehow. Sure I seen a post somewhere about deleting a file but I cannot remember where :-(
Hopefully someone will of had the same issue or can assist in some way!
    Thanks so much!

Do any of these suggestions help?

  • Mac won't connect to wifi after sleep?

    Hello,
I'm a student, and currently on an Enterprise network, and whenever I've used this wifi I always have troubles with connection! The first time I connect at the start of the school year, everything works just fine. However, 90% of the time, after closing the laptop and opening it again, I lose my connection to the wifi - even if I haven't moved.
When I open the laptop it tries to connect to the wifi, and fails. Sometimes it says I have an ip but wont be able to connect, or flat out it cannot connect. Typically I go into my wifi settings and delete the network from the list, then delete the network certificate from my keychain. After turning the wifi off then on, then re-entering my cridentials it will sometimes recconect just fine. Otherwise I have to sit there and connect/dissconecct/wifi on/wifi off till it can connect again. All said and done, getting it to connect again takes me a good 5 mins or so. Not ideal for a college student.
I do NOT have this problem on my home network or any other wifi for that matter, just the schools Enterprise network. I was using Lion up untill today when I upgraded to Mountain Lion, but both OS's have this problem.
Most of my PC peers or Snow Leopard peers have to configure 802.1x settings, however, lion and up does not allow for adding an 802.1x profile. Could this be the source of my problem?
    Thanks for any help.

Is anyone else having this issue?

  • Original Macbook Pro Retina 15 not connecting to wifi after sleep

When Waking from sleep, it searches for wifi and finds it but doesn't connect most of the time. i click/select the network manually & sometimes it connects but iv ended up resorted to turning wifi off, then turn back on & it finds the network (it found earlier) AND connects to it automatically. this problem happens on other wifi's aswell, not just my home wifi.
Wondering why it can find the network after sleep, but doesn't want to connect to it. All my ios devices, my sisters MBP retina 13 connects perfectly. I've come to conclusion it must be my computer....

I to have this problem. I have a late 2013 Macbook Pro 13inch with Retina display. I soon discovered on my machine that if you disable Bluetooth then the macbook connects to the wi-fi as it should. I dont have a problem on my home network with any other apple devices and the connectivity issue is the same on what ever network I try. I soon realised that if I disabled Bluetooth the machine connects perfectly everytime. There is clearly a bug or some technical issue that occurs preventing wi-fi connection when you have Bluetooth enabled. Try it and see if it is teh same with yours?
I was hopeing that the fault or issue would be fixed with the latest OX update but alas it is still an issue for me on my machine. I have just taken to switching Bluetooth to off until I am connected and then just turn Bluetooth on if I need it.
Hopeing that some kind of fix will be issued soon.
Let me know if this Bluetooth issue is the cause of the issue as I woudl be interested.
    Best wishes.

  • Having problems connecting to WiFi after Sleep Mode - Lion with most recent updates.

I'm new to Apple and have the new MBP - what a great machine!
So, I updated to Lion and have done all the updates for my OS. As of recent (after an update last week), I am having trouble connecting to the internet after I close my computer (Sleep) or Sleep mode due to inactivity. The only way to connect after said mode is to completely Restart the computer and then my problem is fixed. I've tried searching, but can't find anything. Any suggestions are welcome.
    Thank you

    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved. Make sure the box marked

    is checked.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly."
    3. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    4. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    5. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    6. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
    7. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    8. Reset the System Management Controller.
    9. Reset the PRAM.
    10. Reinstall OS X.
Updating to 10.9.2 did the trick. So I thought. Does anyone have a solution?
    Thanks!

  • 2007 security update can't connect with wifi after sleep

After applying the 2007-001 security update I could no longer get to the any web pages even though internet connect showed I had a good connection. After checking my network settings I noticed that my Power book had a self applied IP address. I deleted the internet .plist files in my user/library/preferences folder and rebooted. Then my network settings showed a valid ip address. After putting the Power book to sleep for a while. I had to go through the whole routine again. Has anyone found a fix for this?

    Hello Peter
Albeit this is a late reply, I have found that if I disconnect from
the net via the Airport symbol on the Finder's task bar that, works for me.
It is odd since this issue is most prevalent with 10.4.8 & intel in particular.
However I have experienced it on my powerbook running 10.4.8.
My Flat panel runs os 10.3.9 but is connected via ethernet & that does not have this issue.
Make sure your Router/Modem is updated on it's firmware.
I don't know how you connect, however try DNS Server #'s if you do not have those entered in your, DNS server field, TCP/IP tab, Network, In System pref.
Look for your ISP's server # here
FYI, for many ppl.in the States, the Verizon numbers work well.
Verizon (Level3) - these are not restricted to Verizon customers
    4.2.2.1
    4.2.2.2
Of course the DNS maybe filled all ready & have nothing to do with
your problem, thought I would add it.
Hope this helps some, if you look at your post.

  • Once my iMac and Macbook Pro go to sleep and I start them it takes about one minute to connect to my wi-fi is there a setting change that would connect me immediately?

When my iMac, Macbook Pro, iPad and iPhone go to sleep it takes about one minute to connect to my wi-fi when they are awakened, is there a setting that will keep my wi-fi connected at all times?

Same problem here - only with a 2012 Macbook Air running 10.8.2
    (very accurately described above )
After MBA sleeps and you try to wake it up, screen does not refresh properly and only refreshes where the current mouse cursor is.
If you close the lid, and then re-open the MBA then functions correctly.
I also have an issue where the MBA will suddenly crash while asleep and then will require a hard reset.
    Not sure if related though.
I just reset smc/pram - will report back if this does not solve the issue.
If you don't hear from me again, then reseting solved it!

  • Retina macbook pro can't auto connect to wifi after wifi router rebooted

My macbook pro with retina can’t automatically connect to wifi after the wifi router was rebooted. There is exclamation mark on wifi sign. As I clicked the wifi sign, it shows no Internet connects. However, It is strange there is a tick in front of my wifi name. In order to use wifi, I had to click off wifi, and then click on. The previous version, Macbook pro, has no problem like this. I had deleted all files under wifi library, but still fail. Appreciating for any way to solve it!

My Imac takes about 8 minutes to be fully functional after a restart or awakened from the sleep mode. I can hear the hard drive making a number of gyrations before it's ready to let me do stuff. This is a 5 year old machine and was much faster in the beginning. Any suggestions?

Impossible to say however it may need more RAM, or if you have been turning it off every day it isn't given the opportunity to run it's daily, weekly and monthly maintenance. This is all done in the background in the middle of the night. I would recommend following the steps in 25 Ways to Speed Up Your Mac until you find the cause of your slowdown.
