Taking a Final Cut Express Movie and Putting it on a DVD

Basically, I have a finished movie that I want to put on a DVD but when ever I try it, the disc is unreadable. Any ideas/suggestions?

To R.Mitchell Fore,
I've been through all the steps you recommended to Finalcutuser22. Still, I cannot burn either an FCP file or a QuickTime .mov file to a CD. iDVD comes up with all blanks. Dropping the QT movie file in its media bin does not work. I need a DVD of this project TODAY, and with the foot of snow coming down here, I need help, pronto

  • Why does my final cut express movie flicker after i put on disk using idvd

Why does my final cut express movie flicker after burning to a dvd using idvd.  Its about 90 minutes long.

    Hi
As Alchroma writes - more info needed.
    FCE/P to iDVD
    Several things
    • How to go from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Free space on Start-up hard disk
    • Encoding
    • Brand and type of DVDs used
    • Burn speed set
    • iDVD BUG
    • Chapters
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
    • Disable Screen and Energy saver
    • IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mix-down
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
    • Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
    Encoding
    • I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used
    • I use Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R
    Burn speed set
    • I set down this to x4 (or x1)
    iDVD BUG
    • One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
    of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
    Use of Chapters
    • I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
    • NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it self
    • No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
    Material used to build movie
    • video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this e.g. .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
    • audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
    • photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
Trash iDVD pref. file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.
    from post ??
May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screen-saving

  • Final Cut Express 4 and avchd

I read an article that recommended your products so I'm hoping you can help me.  I recently bought a Panasonic AC-90A HD video camera which uses AVCHD recording format. In the article it said that I should be able to upload into Final Cut Express 4 and edit. I can upload to the viewing screen, however, I can't seem to bring the clips into the bins which I need to do to edit. Would you be able to help finding the problem and clearing it so that I can edit.
    Thank you,
    John

This is a user to user forum. You are not addressing Apple here.
Can you describe exactly what you are doing and where the problem occurs?
Can you verify you are using FCE version 4.01?
On your camera can you verify you are not shooting in the 1080 60P mode? 1080 60P AVCHD was not a standard when Apple discontinued and abandoned FCE, so that functionality was never added.

  • Final Cut Express 4 and I Movie

I am having trouble understanding how to work with videos on my new Mac. I do not understand how to import photos from my hard drive into I Movie or Final Cut Express. I also do not understand why I cannot download a slideshow DVD I created on my Windows Vista into Final Cut Express.

MPEG Streamclip can convert a VIDEO_TS folder to other formats. Use "Open DVD" from its "File" menu and choose the VIDEO_TS folder.

  • How do I export a final cut express movie in both PAL & NTSC formats?

I am wanting to provide both a NTSC and PAL verion of a movie onto a DVD, how can I do this using final cut express?

Ok, I have successfully converted a DV-NTSC video to DV-PAL using Nattress Standards Conversion in FCE. The resulting output file (a self-contained QT movie) verfied as PAL in QuickTime movie inspector, 720x576 at 25fps and it plays perfectly, the video looks great, and the sound is in sync.
I had to figure out a workaround for one step in the documentation (Graeme uses an FCPro feature called 'nest items' that doesn't exist in FCExpress. I got around that by manually creating a second PAL sequence instead - see below).
If you're starting with an NTSC video, the basic procedure I used is this:
1 - create a PAL sequence and place the NTSC clip in that sequence (yes, that's right)
2 - create a second PAL sequence (add the word NEST to the name so you can tell which sequence is which)
3 - nest the first PAL sequence in the second PAL sequence
4 - open the second PAL sequence (the NEST) in the viewer by Control-clicking its timeline and select +Open in Viewer+
5 - apply the G Converter filter to the NEST (which is now open in the Viewer)
6 - click the filters tab in the Viewer so you can see the G Converter filter
7 - drag the +original NTSC clip+ from the Browser to the +Source Clip well+ in the filter
8 - verify that the other G Converter settings are what you need, especially that you have checked "Nested", "High Quality" and "Source is NTSC-DV" and that the convert setting is NTSC->PAL (these are the defaults, but you should verify them anyway)
9 - render the NEST sequence ... +this may take as long or longer than the length in time of your sequence+
10 - export the NEST sequence as a self-contained QT movie ... which will now be a PAL movie
One other note, the Standards Conversion filters need to be copied to the +Library > Application Support > Final Cut Express Support > Plugins+ folder (not the Final Cut Pro Support > Plugins folder as specified in the documentation)
If you are going to try this with your project, I suggest the following:
1 - edit your movie in an NTSC sequence. After completing all your edits (when you are done editing) export it as a +self-contained QT movie+ (it will be an NTSC movie)
2 - re-import the exported NTSC movie back into FCE (it will now be your complete movie as one large clip)
3 - follow the instructions above for using the G Converter filter to create the PAL version of your movie (using the re-imported movie as the only clip you will put in the first PAL sequence, and in the Source Clip well in the converter filter.)
You can use your first export (the self-contained NTSC movie) to create your NTSC DVDs; and the second export (the self-contained PAL movie) to create your PAL DVDs.

  • Final Cut Express 4 and MacOS 10.6?

I just bought the new Mac Box Set with Snow Leopard and Final Cut Express 4.
Thus far, I've been running MacOS 10.4.11 on my MacBook Pro. I have no experience with 10.5 or 10.6.
I have yet to receive shipment of either software package. Is there anything I should know about when installing Final Cut Express on a Snow Leopard system? (NOTE: I am having this software installed after also having an MCE Technologies 500 GB hard drive also installed, so this will all be a clean install.)
I have used Final Cut Pro 4.5 before, but never Express.

    Walt,
I don't think FCE comes with QT pro. I already had QT pro when I loaded FCE so I am not 100 % certain.
Do you have quicktime Pro now? It looks like you are doing a clean install of Snow Leopard, If you are updating to Snow Leopard and have QT pro it moves QT7 Pro to the utilities folder. With the clean install you need to get QT 7 from the Snow Leopard disk. Then you fire up Quicktime and go to the registration screen and put in your QT pro info.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Final Cut Express HD and Animoto resolutions don't match

I imported a 720p video into Final Cut Express HD from Animoto.com (created online with Animoto and downloaded the MP4).
I added a song and a couple of bookend credits then exported to QuickTime Movie. The resolution of the FC export is significantly lower than the original MP4. Significantly lower. I've tried almost all the export settings in the "QuickTime Conversion" export, but nothing comes close to the resolution of the imported MP4.
Can anyone see what I might be doing wrong?

    Have a read here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19146995#19146995
Sounds like your Easy Setup and clips are scrambled to me resulting in degraded footage.
BTW: MP4 should be transcoded to match an Easy Setup.
Codecs used in FCE are editing codecs, MP4 is for delivery.

  • Exporting video from Final Cut Express to be put on the internet

Is there a way to export a flash file from Final Cut Express? I have a short video I am trying to put on my web site and I am finding that every format I try people who are using PC's are having trouble opening it. It all links back to Quicktime. Is there a way to not use Quicktime?

It doesn't come with FCE. You need a Flash encoder. There are different ones of varying quality. Flash of course comes with one. Episode has Flash as an add-on. Do a google search for Flash encoders. Many encoders, after they're installed, will work directly from within FCE using the QuickTime Conversion function. There'll be a format option for Flash.

  • Can Final Cut Express 4 and Canon ZR60

I'm new to the whole video experience and would appreciate some advice. I have a Canon ZR60 with a Mini DV tape. Before I purchase the software, I'd like to know if Final Cut Express 4 can process video taken with this camera or do I need to get a video camera that shoots HD?
    Thanks, Stan

    Hi
And You need to buy a 4-pin to 6-pin (or FW-800) FireWire Cable to connect.
Neither Your Camera or FCE/Mac can Import/Capture Your movie via USB/USB2 AT ALL.
This Cable is as I know of never supplied from start - has to be bought as extra.

  • Are there bugs between final cut express 2, and imovie?

i dont have the HD version of final cut express, just the original version. i imported some footage and exported as a H.264 high quality video, then put that to idvd...the final burned version looked like soo bad, it was like the horizonal lines of the video were blurred and studdering. i don't know. so i exported a full quality video and took it to imovie HD6 to do the H.264 compression, then took that to idvd and did a "best quality" burn and then the final output on the tv....looked like some frames were being skipped.....what the heck? Is this just a bug between final cut express 2.0 and idvd? maybe i should try capturing in imovie and sending that to idvd.....BUT I ALREADY EDITED IT! AHHHHHH

well i'm trying to save space on my HD, so i export to a H.264 file to keep on my drive, and when i need to make dvd's, i just compress the H.264 file, and it still looks awesome on a tv......it has worked a while ago, but all of a sudden it's giving me issues. i've tried every way
RAW to H.264 to imovie to idvd best quality to dvd....BAD
RAW to RAW to imovie to idvd best performance to dvd...BAD
RAW to H.264 to idvd best quality to dvd...BAD
RAW to imovie to H.264 to imovie to idvd to dvd...BAD
    i just dont get it

  • Final Cut Express 2 and a MacBook

I have a MacBook running tiger, and I tried to install an older version of Final Cut Express- version 2.0.2, and it won't let me. It says that I am missing an AGP Graphics Card, which doesn't make sense. Is there any way that I can get this to work? Or do I need to upgrade to a newer version of Express?

actually, it should work. Hit ESC when that message comes up.
FWIW: I can run the program, etc, but after a bit of time, especially when rendering, it starts to toss error messages to the console. Pretty soon (thousands of errors later) it hangs the machine (usually the culprit looks like syslogd taking most of your cpu cycles). Then FCE has to be force-quit and everything is lost.
You should try it though. Maybe my video is just too long or something.

  • Final Cut Express Movie turns into Widescreen

I've seen a lot of discussion about this on the forum, but no real solutions.
ANd to re-cap...Its not Audio, its not chapter markers, its not having something selected in the timeline when exporting.
When I create a non widescreen project in Final Cut Express (Current Version)
And then export it as a reference movie (as it is suggested to do)
Then import it into iDVD for burning. It becomes a widescreen project.
I have 2 projects I created in FCE. Both are from the same type of source material, both are about the same length, acording to the Quicktime movie inspector, identical in every way almost except for the actual content.
One burned fine in iDVD, the next one, done the same day was converted to widescreen by iDVD.
Any solutions to this...I'm obviously not the first person with the problem.

Same problem with a fullscreen movie exported as a quicktime movie from FCP, then iDVD forcing it into widescreen. I solved the problem by exporting from FCP with Compressor. In Compressor I chose DV_NTSC as my format and it works fine as fullscreen in iDVD. It even saves chapter markers. So that's my current workaround until Apple fixes this terrible bug.

  • TA26655 opening final cut express movie in imovie hd

I need to fix the exposure in a school play video that I shot, but I only have imovie hd along with idvd hd to create the dvd.
I'm going to have to purchase an older copy of final cut express to do so, I think. If I open the imovie hd file in final cut express and tone down the exposure, can I then import that "fixed" file back into imovie hd or will I need to finish editing in final cut express and make a dvd from that? My ultimate goal is to make a disk image of the dvd movie for making future copies. What is the best way to do this?

    Hi
Can only answer parts of this but anyhow.
    A. iMovie and FinalCut - or really iMovie HD6 and FinalCut Express 4 or FinalCut Pro 6 - doesn't use the same way to handle VIDEO. So one can not jump from one to the other.
    B. This has been made even worse as
    • iMovie HD6 - and iMovie'08 to 11 - HAS nothing in common but the name - not a bit of code is related.
    • FinalCut Express and FinalCut Pro was one way compatible from Express to Pro - not back
    • FinalCut is now also disgraced in naming - as FCE/FCP - doesn't have any relation to FinalCut Pro X either.
So this is not as easy as it could have been.
You can in iMovie HD6 - Export out as a full quality QuickTime.mov movie and in FinalCut Express or Pro import it to lay a final touch to it - BUT - all is glued in so no further changes can be made to what's done in iMovie HD e.g. texts and transitions etc.
    BUT !
The tools to color-correct and brightness / contrast adjustments is superior in FinalCut to iMovie where they are but basic. (nearly of no use at all - very very raw)
So this and some other tool's made me take the jump into FinalCut Pro (6.0.4) and I love it. Steep learning curve - but the freedom is fantastic.
Must problem is in the very beginning
    • selecting what kind of project You are doing - e.g. PAL SD-Video 48kHz audio
    • how the material is stored - and setting up the scratch disks (they jump back - so one must keep a very observant eye to this - EVERY time starting-up)
    • but when this is a natural habit to get all sorted out (photos, audio and video where it must be) then the fun really begins.
Good Luck - and have a fantastic time - Key-framing is just one of the wonderful tings You'll find.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Final Cut Express HD and OS Mavericks

I've upgraded to OS Mavericks, now allmost everytime i put in a clip in the timeline Final Cut Express crashes. I don't want to give this program up yet.
    Is there a solution ?

the App Store app would replace an older trial version of Aperture with the current regular releas
That's because when Apple announced that iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand & iWork are now free, they silently included Aperture.  If you already have any of them installed (including  unlicensed trial versions) then under Mavericks the AppStore updates them to the current release.  This was intentional and made easy by the facts that they are all currently supported releases and available in the AppStore.
The situation with Final Cut Express is different.  FCE was never available in the AppStore to begin with.  It was end-of-lifed back in in June 2011.  Apple only ever offered upgrades from one version of FCE to the next.  To my knowledge, they never offered upgrades from FCE to the former Final Cut Pro/Studio.  Their approach with Final Cut Studio was similar - upgrades only from one version to another.  There have never been any upgrades offered from FCE or FCP/Studio to FCP-X.  In this case Apple is following its longstanding approach to selling the Final Cut family of products.

  • Final Cut Express 4 and Final Cut Pro 7

I have been working at school on Final Cut Pro 7
I just bought Final Cut Express 4 thinking it would be a cheaper way for me work at my home computer. However, when I open my Final Cut files (created in Pro 7) I get a message that says their format is too new for Final Cut Express 4.
Is there a solution to my problem? Is it really not possible to go back and forth between Final Cut Pro 7 and Final Cut Express 4?
Is there some creative way of making this work? Help!

Unfortunately not. You can start the project in FCE. Open it FCP, but once it's saved in FCP, it will no longer open in FCE. (It's not supposed to anyway, though it does rarely in some cases where very little is done in FCP.)
